Volks Dolls Party in LA 4 [7-8 Sept. 2019] (After Report is up!)

Jul 30, 2018

    1. thanks for sharing @Nell !!

i am in danger with these ones, especially when it comes to pins and tote bags. i am weak and love that kind of stuff. the komame bucket is crazy cute too. also depending on the quality, i might be super tempted by the gamaguchi bags. most of the doll accessories don’t suit any of my kids styles so we are probably safe there.

i will say that i’m a little disappointed that they aren’t bringing any of those bags made from eva that they released a few months ago for some eco friendly kyoto campaign (i think ...) one style was like a tote bag, and the other was a wicker basket .....

    2. The gamaguchi bags!! :D Definitely looks like something I would like. I wonder how much they'd be but they seem worth it.

The tote bag and wicker basket sound really cute though. I tend to use a big cushioned shoulder bag or my backpack even though I have carriers unless it's an SD13 or 2.

    3. @reaperofleaves in volks news 83 it said they were 12,000 jpy.

most of the advertisements with the eva bags were promoting ease of access to dolls/camera stuff for going on doll based adventures. i do wonder how comfortable they actually are since i don’t think there is any padding on the straps.

    4. Are you supposed to bring a doll with you to the tea party? Or should I say, is it looked down on if you don't? I was considering taking my YoSD Sara as she is my smallest Volks doll, but the thought of anything happening to her unsettles me.

    5. Rather than 'supposed to', Tea Party attendees are 'permitted to' bring one doll with them. I think this 'rule' is mainly in place to keep attendees from showing up with a bundle of dolls and leaving no room on their table for others' dolls, for decorations, for tea. It is optional, though, to bring a doll. If you aren't comfortable bringing her, it's fine if you don't.

If she's small, though, you can always pop her in your handbag rather than leaving her on the table. You will be among other doll people, so she should be safe. I hauled my Reisner (in a ball gown!) to the last Tea Party and he was just fine. But your own comfort level is what you should respect and listen to above all. :)

    6. You don’t have to bring a doll. For many of us traveling it is a lot to carry around all day. Makes extra room in your suitcase for goodies to bring back home as there will be many things to buy and gifts and prizes to be won.

    7. @ame_hime Echoing what has already been said ... If you bring a doll or not, is completely up to the individual. No one will think badly of you if you don't bring one. I think all of us can understand the concern of something happening to a doll while travelling, whether that is during your travels or at the event or wherever. Accidents happen. And like @ginarolo if you don't bring a doll, more room for shopping and hopefully prizes! :D

I'm planning on bringing my SD17 Shiro and my YoSD Kuuta this year. I think YoSD are the perfect travel companions! Looking forward to meeting you at the Tea Party! :)

    8. I will say that one of the highlights of the tea party is seeing so many beautiful dolls on display on each table. I'm going to try to remember to actually bring a stand for my Lady Oscar and she's going to be bringing her new doll in his new carrying case (though not to tea because of the one doll limit) just for fun.

    9. @St. James That's my favourite thing too ... a room full of dolls! :love It's always so amazing! Yes, me too! I'm going to remember to bring a doll stand as well. Makes life so much easier if they stand on the table vs trying to sit! I still have to figure out an outfit for my Shiro for the Tea Party.

    10. ok so idk where else to start talking about this but volks usa just posted a dollfie icon teaser on their facebook page! i wonder if they’re gonna have some at dolpa !!:o

    11. @c4tbus I don't know if you just meant the regular japanese dolpas or LA Dolpa, but having them at LA Dopla would be cool since that's where they were first originally revealed. Even with the snippet we've gotten, that looks so unlike the normal Volks styling we get, and I love it.

    12. @Cloudedmind i mean la dolpa specifically! the announcement said ‘volks usa is excited to announce a new line of dollfie’ and i haven’t seen anything about it on any japanese news sources. i wonder if it will be exclusive to north america!

edit: just saw @pris84 made a comment about the announcements in nagoya/sdcc! please let us know if they say anything!

    13. I think Volks said that at Nagoya Dolpa there would be 3 big announcements? Looks like Icon might be one of those big announcements! :ablink: I love the colour of her!

Edit : I see they have tagged Icon with the SDCC so those going I think might be in for a real treat to see this doll in person! Or that's my guess.

    14. I cant say I have much interest in Dollfie Icon as I'm not big on fantasy skintones (whoa that's a bright blue!) or vinyl but it still would be cool to see them if they do show them at Dolpa.

On another note, there has been a new update:

    15. I think the blue rocks! I had hoped long ago that Volks would do fantasy colors but I figured it would never happen. That body looks pretty fashion doll, though. I’d rather have an SD.

I’m cracking up about the “Demon Lord” shirt in the Dollfie Gacha.

    16. Thank you all for the replies! I feel like I'd regret not taking a doll to the tea party, but in all honesty I don't feel exactly comfortable with it. After I damaged my first ever doll (I dropped him :barf) I have been so overprotective. I'm glad to know it won't be looked down on if I come empty handed. I'll be picking up my SDGr Angela that day too so many it's better that I pack light. I will still be looking forward to the tea party and meeting everyone regardless! :D

    17. Per VolksUSA Facebook : Dollfie Icon will be available at LA Dolpa 4 on September 8! :chibi

Special Announcement: All eyes on “Dollfie® ICON"】

"Another Side of You, Let Your Dreams Come True..."
VOLKS USA is proud to release an iconic line of Dollfie®.

    18. so amped up about dollfie icon at dolpa !! :o !!!

    19. I can't wait until we get more pictures.

    20. i want one of those kimono bags! i wonder how much they are!?? and dolfie icon sounds cool. i dont think i need a blue doll.... now im going to have to go digging for those old pics. XD

    21. That is a HUGE announcement! :o
I hope Volks is prepared for the inevitable rush for the new Dollfie ICON!
I imagine they'd have to be lottery.

    22. @Nell i wonder what the sale structure will be like too! since it’s vinyl and not resin the manufacture of new parts takes a lot more effort and capital to produce, so it seems like they would have to do a full launch to gauge popularity and make the product development ‘worth it.’

that being said, i agree that it will probably be a lottery. in my dream world there will be a lottery for some one-off style models, and general sale of well stocked basic or nude models with enough for everyone who wants one !(unrealistic i know but this is my fantasy :frownyblush:)

    23. i like the design that ive seen so far.... but im still not sold on the fantasy colors... not saying its not cool but i really dont have a use for a blue doll. especially if there isnt some sort of fantasy element to it like ears or body parts.

    24. I think the Icons are a great answer to all of the fantasy colors available from other doll makers as well as an upgrade to compete with Smart Doll. If my collection hadn't gone in a different direction years ago, I'd be even more excited to see them.

      • x 3
    25. yeah i think its awesome and fun to see! one of the teasers appeared to be normal skin too so thats cool. :D

    26. Don't we have a similar event in Europe?

    27. Volks has never put on an event in Europe. You may be thinking about LDoll -- it's a wonderful event, but it isn't a Volks Dolpa (which is specific to Volks and includes only Volks dolls).

    28. Pfff such a shame :pout:
I am Volks addicted...to get in Japan or USA is too expensive and far away for me.

      • x 1
    29. There are a few pictures up of the Dollfie ICON on Volks USA's facebook page. They aren't the clearest though. Hopefully, Volks will put up better pictures later. Or folks who attended the panel will.

    30. @Cloudedmind i recall seeing on their facebook that they will post a complete after report tomorrow! i expect that will include better pictures.

    31. Can anyone confirm that the Icon have the internal skeleton used in Dollfie Dream? Or if they are strung with elastic? We can grandfather them into being On Topic if that is the case.

I remember seeing them at the previous LA Dolpa, and I know they addressed this, but I cannot recall.

    32. theres posts on bjd addicts that have pics of them. they look gorgeous.

@idrisfynn sfynn judging from the photos they appear to have an inner skeleton like the dd3's.... but not a hundred percent certain on that since i wasnt there

    33. @idrisfynn I'm fairly certain from the pictures that they have the internal skeleton like current day DD's. In fact on Facebook on one of the pictures, someone asked why the joints weren't the same color as the dolls themselves. My guess is that at least for the event Volks just used pre-existing DD skeletons that were already made instead of making new ones with the appropriate color.

    34. Seconding @Cloudedmind ... I think judging from some of the old and new pics, they look like they have an internal skeleton (especially looking at the wrists) like the DD but have more aesthetics of resin BJD such as their faces. I think at 2017 LA Dolpa 3, we really didn't have a lot of information and to be fair at the time, I think they were still working on some of the details. But my recollection, is that Volks wanted a hybrid doll between a Dollfie Dream and a resin BJD. I'm really looking forward to seeing these ladies in LA! :chibi

    35. It's my guess as well that Icon dolls have the DD internal frame, but we need 100% confirmation to make the topicality call. Anyone want to reach out to Volks and see if they can affirm?

    36. @idrisfynn the official Dollfie Icon page is up and it says they are "combining the facial expression of Super Dollfie® with the DD III frame and soft vinyl body." So I'd say there's your official confirmation for topicality.

    37. Thank you so much @scripple! :fangirl:
I'll go show this to the rest of the team!

    38. I'm still surprised they have not addressed the differently coloured ball sockets :sweat I mean I know they mentioned on the ICON page that they're samples, and I doubt they'd sell them like this, but its kind of weird that they're advertising an unfinished product. Maybe it was an issue with time constraints, which I can sympathise with.

But yes! They indeed have a pearlescent glow, which is very very cool! It would be so cool to see it in person :D

    39. Seconding this! They are very beautiful dolls and I love their subtle pearly sheen, but I don’t understand why they would show the dolls with mismatched joints. If it was true that these are just prototypes and the final dolls will have color matching joints, I’m surprised they don’t note that in the product information page. I’m very interested to see what the final dolls look like!

    40. Interesting how the very first release has a navel piercing, seems more like a 16th birthday gift to me...

      • x 1
    41. The naval piercing is definitely interesting! I really like the mint but the different colour elbow and wrist joint, I must admit is off putting. And it looks like there will be no trade in service with these girls in the future. Just in case Volks manages to sort out the joint colour differences. :sweat

VolksUSA updated their webpage again and it looks like we all guessed correctly and they will be for lottery on Sept. 8. So that's nice for everyone who's attending Dolpa to be able to try their luck at bringing one home!

    42. :...(:...(:...(Cries as she cannot be at Dolpa....

    43. Volks costume contest information is out. This events theme is "Fairy and Princess".

    44. wait theres a costume contest!?

    45. Yes, as part of the Tea Party.
Here's what info was contained in the email sent today:
It doesn't appear the website has been updated with the contest info yet.

The Dolpa website I noticed does now have a "How to Enjoy Dolpa in LA" part on the front page, which I don't recall being there before.

Also, "Outfits and Accessories Sales from Vendors in Japan" has been added to the Dealer's Market (This is separate from the "Dealers from Japan" added earlier.)
Dolpa Dealer's Market | Dolls Party in LA 4 2019 | VOLKS USA, Inc.

We are getting so many updates now *_*
I'm still most anxious to see what one offs will be there.

    46. ah i hadnt checked my email yet. i noticed they added more vendors to that list. gonna go look again at the how to enjoy dolpa?

    47. What a great theme *_*! I really hope we've got time to make something. Fairiiiieeeeeesssss!!!

    48. Heh, my reaction is exactly the opposite @shirotsuki! I was hoping it would keep to the Grand Ball theme, which I had a great idea for. The doll I'm bringing - he's definitely not up for dressing like a princess or a fairy.

I guess it saves me some time and effort?

      • x 1
    49. so if you bring a doll to the contest can you have a doll with you at the table?

    50. @idrisfynn I hear that! This might be a tough fit for my other boys, but my WS F-57 ended up going kinda fantasy fabulous. I'd been planning on toning down his makeup since he was coming along, really glad we've been slow to get started!

    51. Looks like the VolksUSA website has been updated again - (Japanese) Dealer Market. Maybe some additions? Or some subtractions? I'm trying to remember the old dealer listing looked like.

Edit : Oops! Looks like @Nell beat me too it! :sweat

    52. I definitely just bought a badge as a knee jerk reaction to seeing that this event exists and is essentially down the street from where I live.

A little bummed I can't bring my boy as he's not a Volks, but I'm super looking forward to seeing everyone else's!

    53. What do y’all think the Friday night stuff is going to be like this time? Since the event is 2 days does that mean there won’t be anything Friday? Last time there were a couple workshops and I think the dolly doctor was there? Of course I have work in salt lake Thursday & Friday so I’m trying to balance it all.

    54. The schedule is listed on the dollpa page now in a much easier to read format.

    55. As far as Volks events are concerned, they’re all occurring Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th. :celebrate

I agree — I hadn’t scrolled down on the main page lately; it’s quite nice! :3nodding:

    56. Make sure you take note of some measurements so it's easier to shop if you don't have it all memorized. It's so irritating when you see a wig you like but can't recall what size your doll needs, etc etc.

      • x 1
    57. Cool! Thanks y’all! Checked out the schedule. Takes a lot of the pressure off. :love:whee::chibi

    58. Welp. I'm in a predicament. I have pretty much decided not to bring a doll with me but the dolly dress up contest theme is right up my alley as I love sewing rococo dresses. I could bring my SD Rose since it wouldn't be a tragedy to me if her default faceup chipped or she happened to fall over but it still unsettles me to leave a doll of mine unattended. Did Volks give any prizes to the dress up contest winners in 2017?

    59. i wonder this too! and if your one doll on display in the contest counts as the one doll you can have at the tea party?
