Volks Dolls Party in LA 4 [7-8 Sept. 2019] (After Report is up!)

I got in for the me and a companion ticket! Like the rest of you now it’s time to book hotel and flights. This will be my first dolpa

 

I got in as well, I'm over the moon! Congrats to everyone who got in, I can't wait for the show

Now to sew something elaborate I guess haha.. I'm hecka rusty, but whoever i'm bringing along is going to need something worthy of a grand ball I guess. Seems like part of the fun! Anyone else planning on making anything for the event?

 

Aw, I got super excited when I saw this thread and saw I had a new email, but it was just Sephora. XD I’m hoping I can get in at a later point. Still definitely going, though!

Lol, Yep I totally missed that.
So, formal or dress attire for my guys then. Good thing Chibi Shiro has a suit that should do.... Lol, no worries about Lue, he has more suitable outfits for a Grand Ball, than you can shake a stick at. The hard part is going to be getting him to decide on which outfit before the Dolpa... or at least getting him to narrow it down to two or three by the time we have to pack! Darned clotheshorse!

Well... not everyone who got chosen in this round will follow through, so there's still a chance for more people to be invited. Probably not until June 17th which is the last date for payment... but maybe before then if people actually inform Volks that they have changed their minds and are not going.

Also--everyone who didn't get a response--remember to check your spam folders, just in case.

I don't think Volks does a "hey, sorry no luck" email... but they might. But as I said, there's still several more chances if you really want to go...

 

No email for me, but I'm not too hurt over it since I already decided to go to Japan again for the first two weeks of September. I'll have to visit a few showrooms to make up for it. ;-)

 

Please, I have a question for those who have already paid for their “Self and companion” tickets: When you paid, were you required to give the name of the person who would be accompanying you?

 

I didn't, just had to pay for the tickets.

 

Thanks Senko, that’s what I was sort of hoping.
That means I can just go ahead and pay, and then later if someone wants or needs to use my companion ticket to attend the tea party they still can.
Lol, I just don’t like waiting to pay for things, I like to pay for things ASAP. That’s why my preorder for the latest Dollfie Dreams boy is driving me crazy.
I went and did the down payment option, but now I wish I’d just bit the bullet and paid for him in full! I don’t know when the dolls are supposed to be shipping, so I’m afraid my invoice for the rest of his payment will get buried in all the e-newsletters and other junk email! I wish Volks would just let me pay them the rest of the money for him now and be done!

Tea Party invite for me.

I’m very surprised to see so many people didn’t get an email! I thought because we received so many emails about the Tea Party, that VolksUSA was trying to find more applications. Fingers crossed that everyone gets in!

Just curious, what did people put in for doll, outfit wise ... I just put in for myself and no other items.

 

@pris84 congrats! i also expected to see a lot less people who didn’t get in (yet!) because of the amount of last minute advertising from volks! also my luck is pretty rubbish with this sort of thing so i was very surprised about getting the email when others didn’t!

I was wondering about that too. Those who got into the tea party were guaranteed get the dolls they put in for but the outfits would be up for lottery if too many entered.

 

I just put in for the “self and companion” ticket.
I much prefer male dolls over female dolls as a rule. Particularly when it comes to the larger sized dolls. So neither one of the preorder dolls interested me, not even as a face sculpt that I wanted to turn into a boy.
No interest in the dresses either, since the few girl dolls I do have are all 1/4 or smaller.
Lol, although if either of those dresses had been 1/4 sized, my little SDM princess, Sera, would have been right there waving my credit card!

 

I think they will do that once they know there are no "spares". It seems the same practice as they do with other lotteries...they issue the first round of communications, wait for folks to pay, then repeat until whatever lottery item involved is sold out. The due date for payment for the first wave of lottery winners is this Monday. If the pattern I think has been followed to date repeats, a second round of communications may go out around Tuesday or so, after they check who has paid and who has not.

It's a frustrating, agonizing practice. However, I will take that over clickwars any day.

As much as I am really excited for LA Dolpa 4, I'm equally excited to visit the new Galaxy's Edge in Disney!

I think I'm going to bring my SD17 Shiro (Robin) as my resin companion but if there is some sort of costume contest, I may change my mind. Has anyone else decided who their resin companion(s) will be?

 

same! have you seen pictures/videos? it looks amazing! also i am considering organizing a disneyland meet for a day or two before dolpa if you are interested!

 

I just got back from Galaxy's Edge and it is worth going! We had such an amazing time and the land has one of the most organic feels to it in any theme park. We will definitely be building a droid or two when we're back in September!

 

@c4tbus I have been obsessively watching YouTube videos on Galaxy's Edge! haha We are arriving on Friday so I'll have to see what time we get to the hotel, check and of course have a mandatory first meal at In and Out. But I will watch out for meet updates!

@InvisibleWings COOL!! Yes! It looks awesome!! Very much looking forward to going! I totally need a droid also. So many choices on builds! It's almost as bad as FCS! haha

 

I only have one Volks doll so far, a School Head A on an SD13 body, so he'll have to be the one coming with me He doesn't really have any clothes that suit the Ball theme of the event so maybe an order is needed

 

Oh nice! I thought I'd bring the sdgr f57 I ordered last October. I'm a waffler though, I'll probably go back and forth until I start sewing. I think he'll be the most fun to get dressed though!

 

I haven't made a full decision on who to bring just yet, maybe until they announce what one-offs will be there.
There's other factors like, who's the heaviest, who'll fit, and who will be good company. My top 3 right now is Yumi (SDGR Nono), Ayumi (Yosd Nono), or Kisu (SD17Kiriko)

 

As far as resin companions go ... I really want to bring my SD16 Amethyst, but since I’m flying down I may have to be more realistic and think a bit smaller and bring my YoSD Papi? I’ll probably debate this until I’m packing.

 

Question for previous attendees. I'm facing a difficult dilemma because our family is military and we're going to be moving in July/August and I'll have to find another job once we make it to the destination.

So with the Tea Party ticket and the doll pre-order, what happens if a life-event occurs and you cannot make it to Dolpa at the last minute? I know they keep the ticket fee and that's fine. What about the doll? It's a pre-order and they say they won't ship, but do they keep your doll and the paid price? VolksUSA hasn't been able to give me a specific answer and is only speaking in general terms.

I didn't make it into the Tea Party. I'm honestly not sure if I will be attending.

Last Dolpa, a small handful didn't get in and they were about to chill outside the doors when Volks communicated that they could fit them. It just felt a bit weird to me to have almost the whole group going in except a small few. I don't think I want to do that tbh. Hoping they at least send an email confirming one way or another

 

If you emailed them, maybe you could copy and paste their exact response to you? It would help us interpret the "general terms" better.

But as far as I know, the preorder page for each doll does state the following:

"Short description:
This pre-ordered item must be picked up at the Tea Party."

If you don't show and pick up the dolls, then maybe they'd cancel and refund your payment for the dolls.

 

I am! My spouse got in and I didn't, so I'd definitely jump at the chance to attend.

 

I think that given the response, my best bet would be to go ahead and pay for things, and cross my fingers. This is my message from VolksUSA:

They're waiting on your decision. As stated, it seems like they are waiting for you to make payment and attend OR cancel your entry before any payment is made.

You COULD ask VolksUSA if they are able to ship your dolls to you, in the event you can not attend. But to be honest, I don’t believe they would nor should they be expected to do so. Angela and Sophie are Event Exclusive Dolls, so you have to attend the event to pick them up. If Volks let you pay for the dolls and ships them to you, then you’re basically treating them like a shopping service. It would NOT be fair for other doll owners who want to attend the tea party and want these dolls but can not attend the event due to lack of time, finances or who simply lost out on the lottery. It would set a bad precedent for future events.

 

I completely understand that and I want it to be fair for everyone involved. I do plan on going and picking up my girl in person, if that helps. I'm not looking to cheat the system. My asking is out of concern because things do happen that are out of our control sometimes.

 

Just a note for anyone looking to do the satogaeri service with a one-off - Volks posted on FB about how they don't replace one-off's eyelashes or eyes. I.e. if you bring one in to have the faceup redone, include the eyes & eyelashes. They can still do the faceup without them, but they won't/can't replace them. (For standard/limited/FCS, they will replace the eyes & eyelashes if you don't provide them.)

 

Eye's I can understand, but eyelashes? Is there something special about One-Off eyelashes?

 

I think it has more to do with them not having the records of what was used for individual one-offs / not being sure they could replace what was used. They'll re-do / re-set them if you have them, just can't replace them.

 

I think I didn't make it, as far as the Tea Party goes, and I'm waffling on whether I want to attend otherwise. I'd love to see everyone, but it's somewhat of a bummer to travel so far and miss out on one of the major events.

 

I'm still really surprised that people didn't make it in with all those emails! Payment for the Tea Party is due on Monday June 17 at 9 am so I'm guess that a few more people might an email next week.

Fingers crossed for those who didn't make it in yet!!

 

Is there a chance that Volks conducts a re-draw if they have people that end up deciding not to pay for their Tea Party tickets? Or do they usually wait until Dolpa and then try and fit people in?

It's still real exciting that they're doing to allow us a doll exchange service. I don't think this has ever been offered over-seas before.

 

@DemonMiko I'm pretty sure there were a handful of people who got a Tea Party email after the first round of emails were sent out. I think it makes sense for them to have guaranteed people in those Tea Party seats vs waiting until the day, if only to help cover the costs of the room and such.

 

@pris84 Thanks for that info! I hope then that people who didn't get in the first round of emails gets good news delivered to their inboxes soon. I've been kind of surprised of how quiet the Tea Party confirmations seem to be though. How is the turnout normally?

 

@DemonMiko I want to say this year the Tea Party is about 200 - 250? I think 2015 was the smallest, I almost want to say about 150 people? 2017 was bigger room and more people ... 8 to a table maybe 20 - 25 tables ? Maybe 200? Right now they are confirming personal Guest ( invited ) ticket attendees for both Tea Party and Convention. So whomever cannot come as invited , will open a seat for a paid seat I imagine.So there might be more seats available.

 

I’m certainly praying I get a second chance email! Every time I see a Volks email my heart leaps into my throat, then it falls to the floor when I see that it’s not the tea party confirmation. Unless a lot of people got invited that aren’t on DOA, it seems like it will be a very small party. I will still go to the Dolpa, of course. ❤️

 

I didn't get an email about Tea Party tickets, but fortunately my girlfriend put in for the "you and companion" ticket and did get in! Here's hoping more folks get emails once the payment deadline for the first round of emails passes.

This is my first Dolpa, so I'm super excited to meet others and admire some pretty dolls! I'll probably bring my msd f-30 girl with me.

 

If you don't own any Dollfie dolls, is this still a good opportunity to shop for clothing, accessories etc. for your other BJDs? I've never been to a doll con before and am wondering what to expect...

Well with the exception of visiting tbe new Volks store before they opened ( which was an accident , I didnt know they were not open yet)

 

Do we have to register for a Badge if we got into the Tea Party? I think I saw something about that somewhere, but I can't find it...

Also--did Volks send out an email confirmation after payment for the Tea Party? I don't think I got one. Is there a way to check that? -- Oh wait... I can see it under Orders on the Volks site...

 

@april No need to purchase a badge. A badge is included with all tea party wins.
