    2. AH! That elusive hybrid prototype! I forgot what they're supposed to be called, but would be really fun to see.

      • x 1
    3. I think they called her Dollfie Icon. But they also were so vague about her by saying " Yeaaaaahh... we may can it if we chose so and not release her at all." *_*
I just hope they will finish her haha

    4. I'm not even a little bit sorry. ;) She made me put in for her! She just looked at me and was like 'I'm going home with you go put in an entry' and I was like 'uh what ok' and then they called my name and whoops.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it was Dollfie Dream Icon for those. I really liked the idea. I can actually see a little of that aesthetic in the Nier dolls, they have much more SD-ish sculpts than most DDs, though not the cool colors. I hope they do move forward with it someday!

    5. thanks for the advice everyone! i am really looking forward to meeting yall at the event!

and dollfie icon looks so cool! it would be really interesting if they had some developments on it. has there been any word since the were shown at 2017 dolpa?

    6. Nope, nothing official. Unless someone saw something at the DollPa in Japan this year. Even when they showed her initially in LA they didn't post any official info about her. I'd give it at least 3 years before it will be finished and available here :(

Everyone also was asking to bring tan colors next DollPa :D who knows, maybe they will finally bring few this year :)

    7. @Ian-KunX See no humility, you and me gonna have to square up next Dolpa (best two out of three with some checkers, I'm pretty sure I'll lose of course lol), and bring Tiffany. We'll see who she really had eyes for. XD I'm kidding, but serious on the bring Tiffany. *wink wink, nudge nudge*

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again! Maybe this time I'll actually make a name badge.

    8. Haha don't worry, Tori is already on the 'bring' list, the real question is who else to bring rofl. Ephram and Travis got their outing last time and two SDs was the limit of what I could schlep around without worrying too much.

And I dunno you might beat me at checkers I'm awful at it. XD

    9. @Ian-KunX Great! I don't believe we got to talk last time, but I'm looking forward to seeing you and Tori, and whoever else you decide to bring.

I'm not sure who I'm going to bring. This will be the first time I'll have more then one Volks doll to choose from.

    10. Who to bring is always the hardest decision for me.

    11. I'm hoping they will give us more information on the new resin type they presented at the last party in LA! I'm so interested to see where they are in development.

    12. Can you guys let me know what's some do's and don'ts? It'll be my first convention and kinda lost on what isnt allowed.

    13. I don’t know if rules have changed but I know the main one was only Volks dolls. No other brands. But I’m uncertain if they’ve changed that. I’ve never been but am considering going this year.

    14. That is still the same, and most likely will never change, since these are events to promote Volks as a company and their dolls. Clothes, and accessories don't matter though, just the dolls.

    15. Makes sense. I figured it had not changed but wasn’t certain as I’ve been a drifter in the hobby the past 4 or 5 years.

    16. Volks has also had age restrictions for attendance at some past events - I don't know if they will have one for this event, but if you have children it could be something to watch for in case you need to arrange a sitter or whatnot.

While Volks only allows Volks dolls at their events, they don't require you to own any Volks dolls in order to attend Dolpa, and you don't have to bring any dolls with you at all - so if you don't own their dolls, you can still come and participate.

    17. Thanks for the info! I'll be seeing everyone there~

    18. the volks usa facebook just announced that la dolpa is going to be a 2 day event ! september 7-8 !!

      • x 1
    19. I just got an email about it, too!

      • x 1
    20. A 2 day event certainly makes a more compelling argument to fly across the country. :wiggle

      • x 1
    21. Well, that minor change does affect my planning. But I'm excited to know what they have in mind for both days!

    22. Me too @kersuru !! :XD: Here is hoping that the 2 days means we are going back to the old style of LA and NY dolpas! 2017 had 2 days but that first day was a bit slow with just the dollfie talks but at least it meant 2 days to socialize!!

I'm really hoping we get FCS!! :eusa_pray That would be awesome!! Time to start writing an email to Volks!!

    23. The most recent US Dolpas have been advertised as two day events, but one day has been devoted to the lottery entry tea party.

    24. Can't wait to see you again too Seditionary and Nell!!!! I'm so excited about this Dolpa. It's going to be a loooooong wait, lol.

    26. Just received an email that Volks will be taking applications for dealers for Dolpa LA!

    27. DPLA4 website is LIVE! Dolls Party in LA 4 2019 | VOLKS USA, Inc.
The dealer market announcement is so awesome! I can't wait to see who's there. As if I wasn't afraid of how much I'll want to spend already :shudder

    28. From my last attendance, it's a Volks doll only at this event. I did bring my other dolls during my trip, but I left them in my hotel room, then took them around town to get some photos at some of the Los Angeles/ Anaheim sites -- Disneyland and Little Tokyo to name a couple of examples. Otherwise, it is a fun event. :)

    29. I have it mentally bookmarked. I'd like to go because it's been a long time, but as always, things depend on other things. Mr. Willington would likely come along if I go; it's been well over 10 years since his one-off lottery day (2007, I do believe), and he might want to let his "family" know that he's doing well. Beyond that will depend on who can get on the plane easily. I may have to get creative with my carry-on luggage.

    30. Hey y'all! Thought I'd join in since I'm so looking forward to another Dolpa. This year will make it my third Dolpa and I'm so excited.

Didn't get to do both days last time, but I'm hoping to this year.:)

    31. Super excited to see a two-day event. I'll definitely be planning to attend both days. I guess I better start getting my dolls ready ASAP!

    32. @Isenn are you going to bring your pretty Tohya again this year, or someone else?

    33. Hi Senko. I'm not sure yet who I will bring. I was thinking of making a project out of my Masha for this one. I repainted her least year and I've got some ideas for a new outfit. Maybe I'll sneak in my Tohya too :)

    34. I always forget about LA Dolpa until it's too late to attend but this year I'm ready! Going to do my best to make it.

    35. I have it earmarked. Hubby is coming down, but doesn't presently plan to attend at this time, and we may be flying semi-separately as I'll be coming in on Thursday night while he comes in on Friday, in the event something is going on morning-wise, and/or so I don't have to worry about the risk of flight delays messing with things.

    36. Does anyone know how much ticket prices went for the last time they had it in Anaheim? Also does anyone when tickets go on sale? Sorry I couldn't find any information on it.

    37. For the Tea Party portion of Dolpa, tickets were $80 for yourself or $130 for yourself + companion (companion tickets holders could not enter for Tea Party one-offs or pre-order the limited dolls). Lottery is held for the Tea Party tickets. (more info here) Last time applications for the lottery began May 1, with notifications of getting in & payment due in June.
The rest of Dolpa, workshops, Sumika Shop, etc., was free to attend.
I'm not sure if that will change with the addition of the Dealer Market for this year.

    38. Thank you!
What us this tea party about?

    39. @LapisShufflin If you win a Tea Party spot, you enter at a specific time in a room set for tea and snacks. You are allowed to bring in one Volks doll. Getting into the Tea means you can purchase the event Limited dolls, enter for event One Offs and get news from Volks about future plans. Sometimes they show new dolls or prototypes, sometimes the human scale costumed characters show up (it was Williams and Cecil? the last time) There are doll photo areas set up and there are drawings for prizes.

    40. Would the new release of Luna and Lieselotte be available for purchase there?

    41. Volks hasn’t released any information on what dolls will be available yet.

    42. The suspense is killing me...when will they feed us more info?!?!

    43. It's been a minute since I did anything Dolpa related, but I believe that information started feeding out around 3 months before the event, maybe a little less than that. So probably June or July is when we'll start seeing a more steady feed of information.

I need to book a hotel room, as I don't THINK there is a room block of any sort. I'm holding on flights to see what options are best for me in terms of making sure my doll bag will get under the seat without issue. I may have to suck up and get that middle seat... >.>

    44. @Alysonsfriend I knoooow! :shudder I'm getting anxious for more news, too.

    45. New dolls party information.

Tea Party reservations are now open, and for the Beauty Salon they'll be offering, Satogaeri Service, and Trade Exchange Service.

Also, there's going to be a limited pre-order for the Pink House girls and their dresses, Tea Party | Dolls Party in LA 4 2019 | VOLKS USA, Inc..

    46. This is absolutely exciting in so many ways! :dance

    47. Yes, I'm interested in seeing what DSD they bring. I'm hoping they bring some of the "boys".

    48. i am a little confused about entering the tea party lottery! if you enter to go to the tea party and plan to buy one of the limited pre-order dolls, do you have to enter for it at the same time as for your ticket? or will the pre-order for the doll be separate?

    49. You have to enter at the same time.

    50. It also seems like if you end up not getting the tea party entry, you also lose the doll pre-order. Please let me know if my reading is off.

    51. thanks yall! that makes perfect sense! for the amount of detail they give about entering i feel like they skimmed over a lot! but maybe that’s just my anxiety about not wanting to miss out on angela !!! she’s so pretty and i would love to welcome her!

also a dump of info about the event has re-invigorated my excitement to attend and meet some/all of yall !!!:D

    52. If it is like 2017’s Dolpa, you can only order the limited dolls if you win a spot in the Tea Party. You will choose and pay for the dolls at the same time as the Tea Party entry.

A bit disappointed about the doll selection (for myself, happy for everyone else and my wallet!) but I’m excited for what DSD and OneOffs they bring. I’m hoping for a Show DSD.

    53. Oh thank Mother SD it's those two I'm safe. So it looks like you can have Volks repaint a doll? I need to find where I put Ephram's headplate when it fell off years ago lol his faceup is just about dead...

    54. The last time, there was a lottery for the Tea Party... not everyone got in originally, but I think everyone who came and was on the Waiting List (or whatever they had), got in... At least that's what I heard--that no one who wanted to be at the Tea Party was left waiting outside because there were enough seats. Hopefully there will be enough seats this time, too. They will have more of an idea of how many people might want to come from the last time.

Anyway--good luck to everyone who wants to reserve a place!

    55. I know I want to make it out there, but since I'm not particularly interested in those 1 girls (I want boys!) I wonder whether it's worth it to still try for a tea party ticket. They do other contests and giveaways like the sei-tenshis at the tea party though don't they? I've only been to a Dolpa in Japan last year so I'm excited for this one.

    56. @reaperofleaves Running the raffle giveaway for all the prizes was the largest block of time in the Tea Party, in fact. In 2017, each person ("companion" or "yourself") was issued a raffle ticket at the door, and later Volks drew a number for each prize one at a time. There were at least as many prizes - wigs, clothes, tenshi, SDs, memorabilia - for the attendees as there is for a Japanese Dolpa's bingo game.

Even if you didn't win anything in the above raffle, each person still got a nice goodie pack with items related to the theme (last time: Oath of Silver Coin) and a Shige-chan bear plushie, so nobody left the Tea Party empty handed.

Now, it definitely helps drive entry to the Tea Party if you want one or more of the pre-order dolls. Not only would you get a guaranteed doll, but also your interest level in that doll's theme (this year: Pink House) may dictate your interest level in the rest of the event because the theme influences everything else. If 2017 is anything to judge by, the ballroom decorations, staff outfits, extra tea party photo space, and perhaps most importantly the One-Off Models' styling was all related to the theme. Because of Silver Coin, we had staff dressed as pirates and all the one-offs were steampunk/pirate themed for instance. So, if you're excited about the theme, then there will be lots to love and drool over, but if you're less excited, then some parts of the Tea Party probably won't appeal to you.

What's left in the Tea Party when you are not interested in its particular theme? The food, meeting other attendees, the major giveaway raffle where prizes can be anything (not necessarily themed), possibly a costume contest if one is held, and probably exclusive Volks news or possible product previews like Dollfie Icon. Only you can decide if that's worth the entry fee to you.

Disclaimer: this is all based on last LA Dolpa. As we all know, Volks can and does switch things up.

      • x 1
    57. @reaperofleaves Yes, they'll have other doll related contests as well. For the tea party specifically there will also be the One Offs, and the raffle which everyone automatically gets entered into.

I'm kind of surprised Volks never sales extra raffle tickets. But, maybe they're just trying to keep it more fair.

    58. The Tea Party is sort of the main event for these US Dolpas. Everyone is gathered together--seated at tables and eating snacks--while News announcements are made and raffle prizes are awarded, along with those who win the opportunity for One-Offs. They also had lots of displays to take photos of, and photo-sets to put your own dolls in, in 2017.

Since I'm local, I was considering just going to the rest and not the Tea Party... but I think it might not even be worth it to go without doing the Tea Party, too! It's nice to check out what's for sale and to talk to folks in the hallways, but missing the Tea Party is sort of a big thing--and pretty fun to attend even if you're not buying a doll (unless you're also in the area to do things like go to Disneyland or do other non-dolly stuff!).

    59. Yay, so excited for the tea party application! I’m still not sure whether I want to pre-order either of the girls? There clothing sets are very lovely. Is it safe to assume that the theme this year is going to be a dandy, frills, lace, and mori fashion style approach? I’m starting to decide who to bring and start planning on sewing an outfit for my resin companion. Lol

    60. @Seditionary the only descriptions they have given about the theme are super vague, but since the pre order dolls are pink house, i think frills are a good starting point!!

i also can’t help but wonder if it will be similar to the event they are holding in atami at the new akao hotel! if i recall correctly, angela and sophie are going to be featured at that event. also one of the evening activities planned at new akao is a grand ball style dinner party.
