Volks Dolls Party in LA 4 [7-8 Sept. 2019] (After Report is up!)

Probably too late for this, but maybe something like an Instant Pot might be good for this since you can sear in that as well as close it up for cooking stuff. We bought a rice cooker with the idea of using it for conventions like this. Would need a fridge though ideally too.

Couldn't make it. Was really hoping to come this year. Sorry! Things kinda hit the fan here. I'll be watching here and the Facebook group for updates ^^;

Excited to know if any fellow forum members will be bringing home any of the lovely one-offs! I am on the East Coast so no Dolpa for me, but I can't wait to see photos.

 

I plan on being there tomorrow, hopefully I will get to meet some DOA members. I'm really excited

 

I had a really great time! Volks staff is really awesome. I left before the end of the charity auction. How much did Princess Fortuna sell for?

 

$42,980 The Japanese artist was overcome with emotions. A beautiful gesture for charity. Such a lovely doll. I saw a video on facebook.

Guys! If someone found handmade doll ice skates, on Dolpa or around event, sumika or dealers shop.. plz, PM me... I am so sad about.. It is dark color, like silver black with metal blades.. SD size(( I am so crying of my lost, really hope someone will found and will return to me(((

I dearly hope so. If I weren't broke right now I would have entered for him, he was so gorgeous.

Oh man, I had such a fantastic time meeting everybody and seeing all the Volks staff again! Especially wonderful to see Mr. and Mrs. Shigeta! I'm super excited about the Disney collab too.

I was super sad about the Pure Drop outfit I couldn't afford rofl, it was purple and gold and SD13 boy size and would have been perfect for Ephram, but then Ephram got something even better so the sad went away. XD I was able to get him repainted and I'm so grateful and so excited and looking forward to seeing him again!

The girl who won Shiro had a super cute note written on her entry form that was posted on the winner’s board. I hope she’s on here!

I was lucky enough to bring the BotB Cain home with me. After trying for him 3 previous times (both Dolpa one-offs and his original lottery release) I’m really happy to bring this grumpy guy home. I can’t wait to try some different things on him.



I had so much fun at Dolpa. So many beautiful dolls. I wish I had had a chance to chat with everyone more, but everything seemed to go so fast!! I’m already looking forward to next time.

My one complaint is they closed the Sumika shop earlier than the schedule said. I definitely wanted to go back in during/after some of the lottery announcements.

I sadly went home empty handed doll wise, but I had a great time hanging out!

 

It was really fun to meet collectors in person at Dolpa and chat with the Volks team. This was my first Dolpa, but hopefully it won't be my last.

I was really fortunate to bring home the BotB SDM Nana, but since I also got Angela, I had to ship this girl and my purchases home to myself. They should arrive in the next day or so, so hopefully I can share some photos of my new girl soon.

 

I was extremely lucky at this Dolpa. After having entered both international and USA lotteries for Oscar and loosing, then subsequently admiring all the ones that came up for auction that I couldn’t bring myself to pay double for - I won her. I won the Oscar and haven’t been able to stop smiling about it since.

I had to ship her, Angela, and Sophie home to myself though so I don’t have pictures yet. I’m so thankful to Volks and the Volks staff, they were absolute angels. I’m actually really starting to believe that if they really are meant to come to you, they will somehow.

I also brought home a romantic glance Serra (petal pearly skin), whose aesthetic is completely different from every other doll I own and yet spoke to me. She looks absolutely stunning with her face up and shimmering skin. I don’t even notice the skeleton is a different color. Can’t wait to get sewing for all the new members of my crew!

@shinidoragon Haha yeah they do have a knack for finding their way to you when they decide it's time. Tori picked me in 2017, not the other way around, and sure enough she came home that day. Maybe your Oscar was just waiting for the day she could meet you in person!

 

Congratulations to all the winners! I’m actually temporarily down a doll since I sent my YoSD Nono back with the Volks doll doctors to be sanded and have her faceup reapplied. It will be a long 3 months before she comes back but waiting is just part of this hobby. I can’t wait to see what she looks like when she comes back!

I’m curious, did anyone have an older standard doll that they sent back to Volks to get one of the five “recommended” faceups applied? I was considering it for my 2008 standard, but decided against it because they only had pictures of two dolls for each of the faceup types and I had a hard time picturing how they would look on my doll. If anyone got a recommended faceup I’d love to see what that looks like when your doll comes back!

 

Another fantastic Dolpa for the history books. It was so wonderful to meet new faces and see old friends. Many thanks to everyone who came by my booth! I wasn't able to adopt any new dolls this year, but that just means my hard working model boys get extra hugs and more treats.

I wound up with Andre! Now he and my Oscar can finally be reunited! (when my life stops being too busy to pose them together and take nice photos T_T. These are from my friend's hotel room.)




Congrats to everyone who brought home a doll! I had a great time seeing everyone's dolls and how happy everyone was to be there and how much their dolls brought them joy. Thanks to everyone who stopped by my tiny section of a booth! I'm glad that everyone else who won was jittery and excited and screaming too.

I actually got a doll this time, one of the SDM CM dolls. I haven't had a chance to take pics yet, it wasn't planned but I'm very happy to be able to get her. This is my third dolpa and first doll

It was really interesting to see the dollfie icons, they look really neat In person. I look forward to all the owner photos.

 

It was an absolute madhouse in there early on, I wasn't even that far back and some of then were already completely gone lol the Lemulia outfits sold out before I got there and I was early enough that the parasols were still out when I got in, so trying to take a picture of anything would have been nuts. There were five Pure Drop outfits I saw, sadly none of them sold that I saw because they were there throughout the day. I remember four of them - A pink SD/SD13 girl, a light blue/blue SD/SD13 girl, a black with red accents SDM boy style, a purple/mauve/gold SD13 boy outfit I wanted so badly for Ephram but couldn't fit in the budget, and I think the last one was red? I didn't really pay a ton of attention to it, I was distracted more by the purple one rofl.

 

I've gone through the pictures I took at DollPa! I wasn't as prolific on the shutter button due to being in shock and awe of the event, but what I took is here! DollPa LA 2019

 

Understandable, what with so many events and so much eye candy to take in! And thank you so much for making the mini Dolpa badges for the dolls; I feel very fortunate to have gotten one. My Yo Megu became quite attached to it

 

You're welcome! We enjoyed meeting everyone and handing them out! I laughed when I saw Volks had made their own for use at the red carpet photo booth, to!

 

Thank you for posting the pictures Kitty. I got sick from my liver / gallstones ( still sick from it) and my husband had to cancel our trip.
I made sure to cancel with Volks too just in case someone else could be squeezed in to the tea party for 2 seats as well.

I feel awful at missing it but you cant argue with pain and vomiting and I am still bed ridden . It perked me up to see some photos.

@Nell, thank you for sharing your Dolpa photos; halfway through Sunday I forgot to take pics, so I’m glad to see ones of the Dear SD display.

Also, it was nice to meet you, and put a face to the username that I’ve seen so often over the years on DoA

 

Woo! So lovely to see all the wonderful pictures from the event!

Useless things:
- I'm visible in like four pictures rofl including one of me with Mr. Shigeta and Mikey while holding Tori. XD;
- Tori appears twice, once in the header shot for the customize contest and once in the aforementioned pic
- They used the picture of Ephram I sent them aww! (Which was one of the worst ones I sent rofl but they made it look OK)
- My poor Claude wound up in zero pictures used XD

The customize contest banner reminded me of a fun coincidence - Tori has been number eight twice now! She was Tiffany #8 at the 2017 Dolpa and entry #08 in the customize contest! XD
