Volks Dolls Party in LA 4 [7-8 Sept. 2019] (After Report is up!)

omg those mini badges are adorable.

I still don't know who to briiiiiing. Tori of course, but who elllllse. Can't afford to stay at the hotel this year because it's super tight money-wise so I want to keep it to 2 or 3 absolute max. Ephram? He's always been to every event. Travis came last year. I want to sell my F-40 so probably not him, Stephanie maybe? Lukas since Link gets no love? My one-off Claude because he's gorgeous? My F-05? Yo Williams/Reisner? Asuna? Kirito? Ahhhh.

 

That is a really kind thing to do @asianed, I made a mini badge for my doll last week but never thought to print up extras.

 

First and foremost, be safe! It's not the end of the world if you can't make the event.

I need to get Chii ready for next week, her wig is an absolute mess. It's so hard to keep tamed because of how massively long it is...

 

Goodness, it's like...already only a week or so away...and this time now I'll be at Disneyland too... So....there's that.

I have some last minute things to do and will hopefully stay focused over the long weekend. I have my outfit for the tea party mostly sorted, but I am at a complete loss for how to work a doll into it. I have theories, though, so I am going to stay vaguely optimistic Between that and the last minute check for clothes and sorting out packing of things and dolls....I think I'm close to ready!

 

Are you the one who made them for CCBJD? I remember someone making mini ones for it as well. They were very cute!

 

wahh! my husband and i leave for la tomorrow! because we are staying with friends for most of our pre-dolpa trip we decided to only bring one doll. it’s gonna be our kagamine len dd, because of weight and durability.

1 week left until the main event! very excited to meet everybody!

Wow that’s so cool that they are bringing the September collection, especially since it isn’t even listed on the Japanese site yet. There will be so many new outfits to choose from!

 

SNA to Anaheim isn't too far-- maybe 20 min depending on the time of day?--so ride cost might not be too bad. Glad you are avoiding hurricane problems. Hopefully it will stay over the ocean!

 

Anyone know if Volks is capable of doing split payments (ie. $500 on one card and $500 on another). I usually only travel withone card but I'm curious nonetheless.

I'm all set for Dolpa. Just booked a room for Saturday night, even though I live in Anaheim. Decided to bring my F01 and my friend will have my SDMidi Williams. I can't believe it's already September! The Alchemist outfits from the designers collection are too cute.
I can't wait to see everyone's dolls.

I have to say that this Dolpa is pretty amazing with the recent add of September collection besides the Dollfie Icon, Milestones gallery, AND everything else. I'm pretty hyped!!

Well it wasn’t easy, but I managed to fit my SD Nono, DSD Nono, and YoSD Nono in my carryon luggage! Unfortunately they leave no room for any of ~my~ things, so good thing I’m traveling with my sister so I can stick my stuff in her suitcase! I definitely understand now why people prefer to bring smaller dolls to the conventions.

 

Awwww, I want to see all of them together!

 

Man, I am also super lost on who to bring! I need another car!!

@asianed I love the mini-badges!! I'm doing similar mini things for my table, but I am. Having a hard time figuring out making a simple purikura setup. But we have little polaroids and stickers to put on them!

I'm so panicking for tea party, too. I need to modify my dress, I don't think it's going to be kind to my ribs. Why can't life be easy? I'm too cricky for this stuff now that I'm old.

Is anyone planning on a restringing "party" before con? I'm kind of debating if that's a terrible idea or if it might save my sanity. I think I'll die if any of my dolls decide to fall on their faces at con. @_@

Little bit of prep though! I'm really excited about doing tiny things? I hope our table has enough space.

I feel like I remember doing that, but I'm not sure. I know my bank declined a charge in the Sumika last time because my travel notice had been for LA but the charge looked like it was coming from Japan. Make sure your fraud dept knows in advance!

Just about ready! Finishing up my boy's faceup, and just trying to make sure I don't forget something important X D. I can't believe it's so soon.

 

Packing today, traveling tomorrow AM.

I am so far only bringing my Williams, but as things work themselves out, I will see who else can join the flock. It's a tenuous arrangement to be sure if I bring more than one companion, and anyone I bring techncally restricts what I can bring home.

That said, trying to avoid any more dolls...

 

I finally decided which boy and what he is wearing for the tea party yesterday, but I have no clue for myself. XD

It doesn't feel like it's finally time for the big event already. I'm starting to pack today and it still doesn't feel real.

 

It's so exciting that Dolpa is this weekend!

I still don't know who I'm bringing along and haven't started to pack yet. I'm leaning towards my pair of Four Sisters and/or my SD16 Rinon. It seems like packing light for the weekend will be the best idea.

 

Have to be sure to put in a Yo for spouse to take to the Tea Party. Or should I make him take the doll he had with him in 2015 when he won a doll?

I brought my Cain last time, so I'm leaning towards leaving him at home. Considering my Saito on the Gou body. The Reisner also attended last time, so he may have to yield to another. Both the F-73s? Or Crystal? Lorina?

I'm in panic mode because apparently I booked the at-con Marriott, which would be fine, but the Residence Inn Marriott literally shares a garage and has kitchenettes for the same exact price. T_T RIP me. No stove.

Booth 7 is apparently going to be vacant or otherwise being held for something else? They didn't seem sure on the phone.

@DemonMiko I want both!! Okay that's greedy. But still. I'm trying to pair down who I'm bringing (so many... why did I fall into SD16s...) and I'm torn on one of my Megus or my Rinon too. ;w;

You may well be! I'm driving down from near Sacramento. I called Volks about the missing numbers and their plans seem to be up in the air for those spots. Including possibly letting us expand down into them. Do you have Discord? I'm having to drive down Thursday and figure my booth out on Friday, but if you're up for talking about booth design/the space between our booths, I'd love to plan with you! I don't want to be planning putting a wall there or something, you know?

 

I'd love to, but need to go work during the weekdays We could discuss at Tea party if you attend too.

@Megami-Landing Wish I could, but I'm flying in solo and can realistically bring one big one and maybe a tiny or two. Nothing at all wrong with falling for the SD16s, the proportions are so elegant.

On the plane! My boy and bonus Sei Tenshi are huddled in their baggage...Will is in a Chococat barrel bag (thieved from another doll) that is questionably fitting underseat, but I can pull him out and hold him if needed. The EvenMore seats from Jet Blue are allowing me a teeny bit of grace.

Hi guys! This is going to be my first time attending dolpa and I'm a little nervous and very excited! I've never brought any of my dolls out anywhere before, so I hope this isn't too silly a question -- but if you bring a doll, does it have to be a Volks one? I'm just totally not sure what to expect!

 

Volks asks that you only bring Volks dolls to their events. That means not even Volks hybrids. Meetups in the hotel and elsewhere are open to any kind of doll, but most folks don't haul along extra resin unless they are locals.

As predicted, I am hunkered down in our hotel room putting labels and price tags on my wares.

On my way down, driving from the foothills. Of course I couldn't sleep last night so I'm suuuuuper tired. Lots of energy drinks will be drunk today lol.

@kersuru Thank you! I’m a little bit of a hurt’n unit after the 6 hour travel solo. So worth it in my opinion though! It feels good to be back in California! I’m at the Marriot now. Had a bite to eat, and now getting my caffeine fix on for some much needed help to crush this fatigue.

 

I think you will be alright. The main thing you definitely need is you driver’s license or valid form of ID. When it was getting closer to Dolpa, I e-mailed Volks to please send a new badge since I had yet to receive mine in the mail. They shipped one promptly out to me and it arrived before I left.

The Volks staff member thanked me for contacting them, but they were not certain that it would arrive in time. They did not say without it that I could not attend. I’m thinking Volks is testing the waters with mailing out the badges this year. They must have a list with all attendees names.

 

Yeah I probably could have chanced it but I ended up just going back. It's a little depressing being home when I should be stuck in LA traffic but oh well. I'll just take a nap to recover then head down and get there in the morning. XD
