Dollfie Dreams (with vinyl or resin heads) are on-topic for the forum -- they were grandfathered in when the rules were formulated, since a lot of people own the bodies. Therefore, Mini-DDs would also be on-topic.

We introduce "Mayu-Mayu", the warmhearted Mini DD that comforts you by just being there, only for you! I wish!

Anyone here ordering these girls? urgh .... silly cute dolls keep calling to me. I mean what the heck am I going to do with one? not exactly allot of clothing selections for this doll right?

 

Treelore I saw some clothing being listed as MSD, SDC, miniDD so they may be able to wear some MSD outfits. The eyes are animetic so that's not decal I think their painted not decal. I like Ayu but not enough funds and I'm not into the outfit. One day I want to get miniDD to make a doll of this character I designed

The heads are actually the same size for mini DD and regular DD, they wear the same size wig and eyes!! Its the sculpt and faceup that makes all the difference

 

Most people never think on it but you could use shinsiya or misia as an anime character. I brought my Shinsiya to Dolpa NY2 she has an anime style faceup and animetic eyes in 22mm.

You should have seen how popular she was with the volks people. Valico and Aone and the translator for the SD doctor were quite taken with her.

The key is you need to pop the backs of the new animetic eyes and use the 22mm eyes not the 18mm.

 

Thanks, unfortunately she only has elf or wing ears volks hasn't made any normal option ears. All the option ears are attached by a peg and held in the head by rubber socket. If it becomes loose volks' SD doctor can fix them. I suppose one can ask a modder in the forum to make option ears for her


aquilla: Thanks, I don't mind. Personally I feel this head mold is often taken for granted. If I minded I wouldn't have given the details to the mold and eyes used One can mistake her for a mini dd but she's made of resin not ABS and is more durable and costs less. She's on a pureskin not oldskin body though as I got the head second hand

And thanks to chibichibiusa's Japanese knowledge we could make out that the new (still not confirmed though !!!!) MDD of the character Konomi Yuzuhara form To Heart2 will be released around September but no more info about this one...

A little warning for those who have either Mayu or Ayu... that cute little dress they have leaves red stains around their elbows.. so errrr I suggest not making them wear that dress for too long. (I found it the hard way.. grrr)
I guess the other option would be to coat her all over with MSC...

 

I'm a bit worried about the new 24mm eyes as well...
Though since a great amount of the DDeyes are out of stock I think it's about time they come up with some new designs really fast.
I kind of like the design of Konomi's! but not when it looks too 'bright' red... hee-hee....

 

I saw them (well, the original ones) while at the Volks store in Akihabara. They did a body swap with normal DD like another member here had too. ^^ They're really nice. I just want them to be cheaper and standard... I've probably said that for the fifth time.

 

I was meaning to ask this is it better to get a silicone wig cap or a cotton wigcap like the one sold on volks for a miniDD head? Anyone know?

I'm worried about wig staining on Konomi's head

 

Actually I've heard that if you wash it in vinegar it holds the hairdye and it won't stain. I might do that but I don't really like her wig that much so I was buying a Luts (milk) wig.

 

I have heard that too but then I can imagine the wig won't be like new after washing it!

I have been thinking of buying a few Silicone caps myself that go one before you put the wig on. I know the Silicone also helps the wigs stay on well thats a plus!

I've ordered from Laurebelle several times. The caps do a good job of keeping the wig from slipping. They can be trimmed to fit. Fast shipping also.

If you haven't had a DD before, be aware that their heads are quite large- my MDD Mayu can share wigs with my CP Chiwoo (head somewhere between 9 and 10 inches) but wigs for my DZ Cherry (8 inch head) won't fit her. So you'll need to be careful that the "SD" sized wig or wig cap you are looking into means a SD 9-10 rather than an SD 8-9. ^_^

 

Would a 8.5-9.5 inch Luts wig fit a MDD? Do LUTS wigs stretch?

I really want the Konomi mdd, too bad I couldn't join the lottey for her. Now I'll probably end up paying hiked up prices on the second hand market if I want her ¬3¬

 

You never know she may end up showing a few months later in the Volks international site. The last 2 MiniDD just showed up there one day no special event.

It depends on the individual wig- my poor Chiwoo can't wear some wigs he's supposed to be able to fit into. But Chiwoo and Mayu have about the same size head, so assuming Konami is the same size head as Mayu, any wig a Chiwoo can wear, she can wear.

She won't be able to wear most Dream of Teen wigs because they're too small, for one example. (ETA: Or at least, she won't be able to wear Shall's wigs. I've tried. No luck.)

I wonder if this means the Mini DD isn't very popular though... I think I actually saw Ayu and Mayu selling below retail on Yahoo Japan or something. : / I hope they become welol liked enough for Volks to keep doing them and even add them as a non-limited base body/head line. ^^;

I wonder if it's because they were fairly minor characters from an anime (well, I've never seen the show they are from but they seem not to be main characters), if a more popular/well-liked MDD character doll will sell faster? Or if people just don't want a new size of doll? I think the MDDs are so cute. ^^;

But ALOT of people Konomi because of ToHeart2 when Konomi is the main character's childhood "friend" and actually there is a male main character named Takaaki......probably meaning someday people might have a male Dollfie Dream named Takaaki! I already have a male DD/Obitsu already though but it would be awesome if he could have a brother! O_O Anyways i'm not sure if MDD are that popular that's why alot of people like to put MDD head on a DD2 body! You know i'm gonna do that! But due to me buying alot of LUTS outfits for her she may have to stay on the MDD body for a while....

Sorry to hear that. I didn't see that though they did sell those dolls in the US it may be licensed only for Japan and US.

Ohhh that sucks, I just tested it and its the same for all the anime character DD Feena, Konomi, Ayu and Mayu... if they can't ship them overseas then... they should only show them on the Japanese site... O_o this is like a torture

I guess you could check on DOA if someone in Japan would be willing to have it shipped to their address and then send it to you. You'd have to pay the extra shipping from Japan to England plus a little commission fee for their time. Or you could buy it from Crescent shop service but the commission fees will be a bit high. Good luck either way!

Be careful of what you use to hold the eyes in, if it has any kind of coloration, it can stain the vinyl from the inside, or cause greening and discoloration. And don't use clays of any kind, they crack acrylics, and damage the vinyl. Just kinda of check on what you are using to hold the eyes in, and if you notice anything bad, try something else.

If this is your first, just remember, this vinyl is a fickle creature--it stains really, really, really easy. I keep my DDs in white dresses when they are not being posed for pics or out at doll meets. Once the stains are there, that's the end of it, they can fade, but they don't come out completely. My friend has a DD that got left in a blue outfit, she now is badly stained in blue, all over the place. O_O Just something first time vinyl owners can forget about.

 

Does Volks Non Hardening Putty hurt the Vinyl? New to Vinyl doll w/ eye changing....

 

Are you talking about the pink rubber erase putty volks sells? I found it not the greatest for holding eyes in dolls

 

It shouldn't hurt the vinyl, but it doesn't hold every well in vinyl heads. As the vinyl heads gets warm, the putty just lets loose. O_o;;

And the head caps on the DDs are a PAIN to get off. You have to MOD the head cap by cutting off a small section around the inside of the cap, if you don't, it will be a major pain to get the head cap on and off. You have to use a butter knife or a utensil to pry it off, it is really stuck hard in there. There is a post about how to do this somewhere on DOA. XD I'd have to find it again. I did it to both my DDs.

It's clear sillicone ear plugs....I have a whole bunch of them but never used them....it seems sticky so would it do the trick? I kinda want to change those RED eyes to a cute light pink or something...

 

I was thinking of changing the eyes and using the clear silicone putty also.

The pink putty from volks I don't use for holding eyes anymore but use it to pickup excess pastels when doing faceups on resin dolls, at least I found another use for it.

 

LOL! I might change to that clear silicone putty....Kana's eyes keep popping off....and she's scaring me! I don't think there's a problem with this type of putty so.....i'll use it! My DDh01's headcap comes right off whenever I twist it a little.... I hope Konomi's is easy to take off....but not loose! Will her hot-glue help the eye changing easier?

 

I don't know for sure about vinal dolls, but the volks hot glue was absolute murder to try remove from my msd Mdori. I ended up just cutting and scraping away most of it so I can get new eyes in and just left the excess in. The excess is kind of cool though as it gives the putty somthing to really hook onto and I've never had a problem with it comming loose.

 

I bought some Mack's Sillicone Putty on Friday! It works EXTREMELY GREAT on Resin Dolls....My Jeong, Kana wore it and even today her eyes are in the same position...(Volks Putty tends to make BJD eyes fall out the head I don't know why...) I checked to see if it sticks on Vinyl...........and I WAS SURPRISED IT sticked on without budging....I even shook her to see if the putty will come of and it didn't....*poor Michiru....I said sorry slightly after :XD anyways the putty will come off if you put your finger under it and pop it out......but it won't slide around the surface....and it's moldable and it's clear and WATER PROOF! So I reccomend this!

 

My favorite method is to use a metal cuticle pusher dipped in hot water. The heat from the metal is enough to loosen the glue but not enough to heat the resin. I'll see how it works with vinyl

I swear by this product too I keep a container in my dolly tool kit

 

Question for those who got their miniDD is it normal for one hand to stick out slightly from the wrist. My konomi's left hand doesn't sit flush to her wrist I'm wondering if I should pull it out and try to see if I can get it to sit flush. From the manual looks like it would pull out.

I have noticed the same thing about the wrist. I think it's just how the MDD are made to have that extra range of movement in their arms compared to DD. I remembered seeing a customization of the MDD wrist joint on a japanese doll collector site and found it again for you. The site is in japanese but for some strange reason, my computer cannot display it properly... but the pictures speaks for themselves.

I wouldn't dare to do that on my own MDD by fear of messing up and loosing some of the arm mouvement range. I kind of got used to it being that way... she can touch her face so that makes up for it!

Only on the left though. I really do love the range of movement on the wrist i was just scared that the joint sticking slightly out was making it prone to breakage but if it's normal then I feel better.

 

Hi, did anybody that ordered MDD Konomi (Jeong, AreeElf) have problem with her wig being too big for her? My wig is definitely too big and as a result the bangs cover all her face.
If I want her eyes to show, I need to let it "float" on top of the head without pushing it down, but it keeps falling off that way...

Please can you look at my photos and let me know if your Konomi wig is like this too, or if it's just mine that is like that?

That really bothers me.. please if you have a Konomi, can you tell me how is your wig?

 

As for her arms sticking out- try pushing back on the hand hard, because some of the extra slack may be caused by her arm loosening in play/shipping. Get used to pushing her body parts back into place- Vanessa (MDD Mayu) pops limbs out of joint all the time. Just give them a gentle shove backwards towards her body.

One of her arms even popped off at a convention, you should have seen me freak when I realized it was gone! (Fortunately found it in the panel room for the panel we'd been sitting in on.)

However, there will be a "Gap" between her skeleton and her fleshy vinyl parts- for some reason, the skeletons on the MDD are longer than their vinyl bits, especially obvious on their legs. (At least on my Mayu it is.)

With Komani's wig: Make her a felt wig-cap using the SD wig pattern found on the Undead Threads webpage (You can google it.) I've done this to make my Chiwoo's wigs (size 9-10) fit on my Dollzone girl (wig size 8 ). It will still look overall too big, but it'll give kind of a cushion barrier so it's not all over her face.

EDITED because my doll wears a wig size 8, not a wig size Harry Potter.

 

Your's has longer hair anyways though...maybe a slight trim? Mines is fine just really short so Michiru wears it! Yukino should be able to wear it she'll be so cute as Yumi's big sister! Also mines has to be pulled down to her the bottom of the neck from the back to look proper....wierd though!

 

chibichibiusa I do think the wig is big on Konomi but I didn't have that problem so much because the first thing I did was put a silicone wig cap on her to prevent staining. It keeps her wig sitting correctly on her head unfortunately don't have pictures.

I did take a photo of her in Candy wig from Dolpa Osaka 4 I got through Jaeninha it's a bit big on her too but again the silicone wigcap grips the wig so it sits right but it has some bunching in the back of her head



I think she has a smaller head than the recommended DD wigs, lol. Decided to name her Miyuki

 

Oh your Miyuki so cute like that! Yuzuyu is wearing a different wig right now too. And you are right, I compared her head with my other DDs and its smaller! Mmmm I wonder why Volks did that but didn't change the wig size ... I think just to make my point to Volks, I'll email them about it just to see what reply they come up with. I'm not expecting anything much from them though. The wig cap idea is good because this wig would definitely stain with the black headcap inside. What size of wigcap do you use for your Miyuki? 8? I need to order some of those!

I got the size 7/8 one from denverdoll. Volks can be funny with headsizes my F13 gets swallowed up in her FCS wig until I put a wigcap on her too. Same bang problem as your Yuzuyu

Was wondering if anyone else has aproblem with their miniDD being top heavy for posing?

Also they seem to be planing to sell miniDdD option body and chests in Dolpa 18 for those who don't know yet.
