Volks Doll Party LA 2024 - September 7-8th

Jan 13, 2024

    1. Some Japanese artisans have posted about stuff they'll have at Dolpa, but it's brought over by Volks. The US dealers hall is definitely not happening, because we had to have applications in by March last time.

    2. It’s sad there won’t be a vender hall this time:pout: (I was surprised to see Enchanted Doll as a vender at the last LADP)

At time point Volks is probably busy on hosting all the events in Japan (Kyoto Dolpa & Tokyo Bay Appreciation Fair)

Me too are anticipating to see more updates from Volks and finger cross for hoping to see a FCS service at the event.:eusa_pray:eusa_pray

    3. This year is feeling like it'll be a bit smaller, more like the 2015 LA Dolpa, maybe. I'm sure they'll get us all hyped with some more updates but it really does seem they scaled back. I'm excited to see what one offs there will be and hope they bring some DearSD, coordinate models and maybe even some Best of the Best.
It is a little disappointing there will be no Dealer Market this year. I even asked Enchanted Doll Eyes and they replied something like 'We will come if Volks invites us' so there was obviously no contact between them about it. I hope some Japanese dealers provide lots of awesome things for Volks to sell in the Sumika Shop.
Only 7 weeks to go! I think we are all anxious for more news!

    4. Agreed with everything said. I don’t think Volks has ever been this late with a Dolpa line-up. I’m a little nervous because last US Dolpa was also close in time frame with the JP cruise, so Oath of the Silver Coin theme was carried over. I am hoping for a new theme this year, but we’ll see…

    5. I'm really hoping we will get news after the Kyoto Dolpa this weekend! I am secretly hoping it will be Echoes of a Beautiful Banquet themed to correspond with the newly releasing dolls. I am just dreaming of the one offs!

    6. I think we will hopefully get news after the kyoto dolpa! Some of the dolls I think we will be getting are the new Dear SD’s with the adorable red outfits! Although the echoes of a beautiful banquet one-offs would be gorgeous, I don’t think Volks would repeat a theme for an LA dolpa. Im hoping they announce the theme soon because id like to follow it and need enough time to order doll clothes and accessories if needed:chibi

    7. The limited Dollfie’s are up! The new Dollfie icons are so pretty:chibi however I don’t think ill be trying for any of dolls announced. Hopefully we get to see the one offs soon!

    8. Finally! The ball has started rolling again for this event and I hope they introduce the one-offs soon as well

      • x 2
    9. The Icons look cute, but thankfully, I'm safe. Let's see what the One-offs bring.

      • x 1
    10. DearSD are my favourite of the line up but looks like I’m safe from everything. My wallet thanks you Volks! lol

    11. I’m happy I decided to sit this one out. I hope others get what they are after!

    12. I'm lucky that I'm really only tempted by Maximilian and DSD Marika  and only one of them is actually in my budget. I'm really stoked for all the people who missed out on Nao and Nayu the first time. I'm hoping to see more chubby alien babies around Dolpa!!! <3

    13. The DearSds are even cuter in person. They are really lovely this time around.

      • x 1
    14. I’m sad there are no dolls for pre-order like last Dolpa. I’m happy about the Anniversary Dear SD- I’m hoping my luck will be with me for Maya. I’m also hoping for tan one-offs.

    15. Finally!!
I’m safe! Although Lana is super cute, I’m not interested (tho they probably all look breathtaking irl); but even seeing these are getting me so revved for the other information.

      It feels real, now!

    16. Okay, I might need Maximillian... but I have no money! So I'm... Safe? They're all so cute though. YAY!

    17. No external vendor hall confirmed on Sunday, as the venue is smaller than Anaheim. They released the Icon announcement at the panel on Sunday, but not the other dolls available. I guess it's lucky for my wallet that there are no new Yos to tempt, hopefully there will be a one-off Yo I can try for.

    18. So am I interpreting the news correctly? There will not be any new SD-sized resin dolls in any kind of pre-order or re-release? Just individual dolls of various types to vie for via lottery on the day of? Or is this phrased to indicate that they aren't done making announcements?

    19. I think the dolls (except one-offs and a charity auction, if they happen) have all been announced.

    20. Huh. Would be amazing if they made up for it with a full FCS ordering opportunity.

      • x 3
    21. If they do FCS, my credit line will DIE. XD Come to think of it, they haven't done that at all since early last year.

    22. I hope they do FCS or announce more dolls later. Im grateful that Volks is doing an LA dolpa but…. Im kind of disappointed in the dolls announced. Having the gorgeous pink house girls last LA dolpa and this being the first LA dolpa since covid I was just expecting more. :eusa_sile

    23. At the 2015 Tea Party they had sneak peek/announcement of the Black Jack dolls with a flyer pamphlet thingy, so maybe there will be a preview or a preorder?

The announcement of the best selection is not as impactful as 2019's with Lady Oscar, Cain, and Tachibana. Volks did announce 8 different DearSD's vs the 4 in 2019 and I'll be looking forward to the amount of Icon's and DearSD's they bring because I think there was about 40 of each in 2019. Although they haven't mentioned anything about the Midi coordinate models.
I'm looking forward to the announcement of the tea party one offs as I'm curious to who they bring. And they haven't announced costumes or a theme if they still wanna do that.

Did Dolpa 50 hype this immensely? Yes. Have I refused to get off the train? Yes.

    24. I think RG Sera is a very cute pin-up style girl. DearSD Nayu and Nao pull at me a bit.
But! I don't collect vinyl and I'd only get another DearSD if I reshelled the one I have to a different sculpt.

I pretty much only collect Sd17 size boys and there isn't much on offer. Maximillian is a great doll but... I already have a Regulus.

I'm sure I'll find other things to purchase, but factoring the expense of traveling I also feel a bit of disappointment. I wanted some *wow factor* for the event. I was hoping they'd offer a cruise pirate pre-order or something~ Expanded FCS for the event would be cool. I'm not giving up on potentially buying doll yet, there could be One Off razzle dazzle.

I'm just grousing a bit as a distraction, I'm sure I'll have a great time seeing all my friends!

    25. It would be super cool to see the new high impact Icon face-up style on some SD16/17 one-offs.

      • x 4
    26. I also feel pretty safe! I will have to see how I feel about the tan DSDs in person. I do also love the Aisha Icon but not 100% sure I want to bring her home.

Really looking forward to the one off selection! An FCS offering would definitely be amazing. Here is to hoping!

I wonder if there is going to be a theme or costume contest thing. I hope if so, the announce it soon so I can get to work :XD:

    27. I'm super excited for the dolls announced. The Icon Girls are stunning and I'm crossing my fingers that they have plenty for everybody! Also Lieselotte and Charlotte! Also seeing all the vocaloids up is unexpected. Hopefully we'll also get the one-offs and (crossing my fingers) for D'Coords. Plenty here to choose from for me and hopefully I can come home with a new girl.

    28. I see that their usual outfits and accessories will be available for purchase, but I’m really hoping to see something new. If their selection is the exact same as visiting a DollPoint or Tenshi no Sato, I’m going to be a tad disappointed as most of those things can be purchased from the website, anyway.

    29. I'm really excited to see the dealer offerings. They usually don't post those on the site beforehand, but so far, I've seen Lululy and MerancholyBird share on IG that they sent clothes to Volks to sell at LA Dolpa! It only makes me wonder what other dealers sent things but haven't posted on social media!

The new Dollfie icon outfits and makeup are soooo fun this time. I'm not sure if it's my style, but they look so good, I might not be able to resist entering for one anyway!

    30. wow how did I miss this? so no dealers other than volks? So strange, especially since it seems like even though they added to the tea party, a lot of folks still didn't get into the tea party. Im still trying to figure out how to go. XD

      • x 1
    31. oh my gosh I’m so happy to hear this! I didn’t ever think that Volks would sell other’s creations :evilplot:

    32. They've brought other vendor items in the past, and twice have allowed a vendor hall within the Dollpa, so it's not unheard of.

    33. I’m very excited, I figured hope was lost since it doesn’t look like they’re having the vendor hall this year.

    34. It looks like Volks has updated the information/schedule for the event. For those who have not been to a volks doll party, I'll give some back up info.

      Looks like

day 1 - Saturday is: Workshops and the tea party (probably with some one-offs)
The last time they did the workshops, it was just the workshops on the first day, and the 2nd day was jam packed with both the tea party and the shopping.. See this link from 2017 on what they did back then. The workshops are most helpful to newer owners on how to use the Volks tools. They might do something similar in this year. Yes, the care items were available for purchase, but it was a section at the back of the room with ONLY the maintenance items. (string, makeup, tools, kips, face covers, etc)
Dolls Party in LA 2017 | VOLKS USA,Inc.

day 2 - Sunday - is the limited doll lottery and shopping.
Dolls Party in LA 5 | VOLKS USA, INC.

I bring this up - because look at the schedule for the limited dolls - applying for the lottery - 10:00am to 1:30pm. Winners announced at 2:30pm.(SUNDAY) And paying and packing will not be fast.

In other words - Sunday will be a big day, and if you are flying - you will want to have a very late flight on Sunday (or leave on Monday). I only see the Sumika shop listed as opening on Sunday. So if you do not have a tea party ticket - then Saturday might not be a day for you at volks, but rather be a day for doll meet ups. If you want to do 'swaps or sales', the hotel and volks shut those down last time, so those type of activities should be planned off site.

      • x 2
    35. Yeah, I really wish they'd shared the schedule way earlier -- I booked my flights months ago, and there's really no changing them now. I think that's the case for most of us who need to fly in; waiting until a month before the event isn't really realistic for booking cross-country flights.

I need to leave the hotel around 3:45pm, and I'm desperately hoping that's enough time to pay if I'm lucky enough to win a doll on Sunday.

      • x 2
    36. They aren't, that was confirmed at the BJD panel last Sunday. The new venue isn't large enough to have one, which I understand. It takes a lot of space to have both a Volks sales/display room and a vendor hall.

While I really enjoyed the impromptu swap in the corridors in some previous Dollpas, I know that hotels really frown on them (because they charge for retail space). I've often wondered how some conventions get the hotel to allow room sales! But there's always a lot of socializing and photo taking to continue the fun.

    37. 3:45 should be enough time. Re: the timing. The Japan volks runs everything/plans - and they just don't understand that in the US we need a lot more time to plan-further distances. In Japan you could hop on a high speed rail no issue with not much lead time. And I think that's what they just don't understand. Also, we in the USA get less vacation time and must book out WAY in advance. It's the culture issue.

It's a liability issue and the CDTFA can come down HARD on their ass (the hotels) for allowing selling without a sales tax permit. CA is pretty strict. That said, the doll con I saw that HAD a lot of room sales was in NY, and even then, the hotel after a bit shut things down (because of complaints of us wandering the halls by other non doll hotel guests - even when it was requested to put us all on one or two floors). And Volks seems to find it an affront to the event they are putting on. (culture thing again) It really does cost to put these events on, fly out the staff, pay the hotel, etc, etc.

    38. After all this time and my plane ticket booked, now I'm starting to look at not being able to attend because I can't pay for a hotel room. I'm coming in from Wisconsin so it's a must to have somewhere to stay. Frig is LA ever expensive. And I don't know anyone who's going, so there goes sharing a room.

    39. I know Una is not announced but I hope that Volks will bring some DearSD una’s alongside the other DearSD’s:eusa_pray:eusa_pray

    40. Are you on discord as there is someone looking to hotel share!

    41. I do have a discord, yes!

    42. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that they will offer the Trade in Exchange like last time. Hopefully, this week we get some more info. The suspense is killing me! :eusa_pray:lol:

    43. *Attention- Are you in need of a room share at the Marriot in Redondo Beach?* (Please excuse me DOA Mods if this is not allowed.)

Hello Everyone, I’m finally playing catch up on this thread. I thought I would post here to see if any other out of stater’s are flying into LAX and plan on staying the weekend from September 6th- 9th. I have a room booked at the host hotel of LA Dolpa and our group is interested in finding one more roommate. There are currently three of us (all doa members), and we are sharing a room with 2 queen beds. I have done it before in the past for LA Dolpa 2019 and we had a blast.

Feel free to dm me for more details to see what we can help you save. :wiggle You’ll also save time and energy not having to haul all your things from a neighboring hotel. Out of the three of us, two have winning Tea Party tickets! I’m excited to see everyone again. This will be a fun weekend. Cheers!

    44. Yes, @Seditionary, myself, and @psychicandroid are the 3 roomies so far. Please message @Seditionary or me if you'd like to share and take the 4th spot, or have any questions. ;)

We are getting so close, only 4 weeks to go! :shudder I can't wait to see everyone!:fangirl:

    45. Ah … I see Shinku is back to haunt me. Haha Everyone looks lovely! I’m looking forward to seeing them in person and finally, we have a theme! Yay!

      • x 1
    46. I had a feeling we'd get a retro theme after seeing the ICONS. It's very cute! But looks like I'm safe from the one-offs lol. I was holding out for a SwD Lucas or a Cain.

      • x 1
    47. That 101 boy is perfect. :frownyblush:

    48. I was hoping for more boys! I’m safe from the one-offs. The theme is cute though.

      • x 1
    49. I was also hoping for more boys so I feel you on that. 101 is really pretty and I like that there's Maximilian but having Regulus already I have to tell myself I don't need both. I was hoping somehow for an RG Williams one off since he's the one I still really want.
The Tokyo Cuise dolls were much more what I'd like, though the Icons are pretty.

I'm still hoping it'll be a fun event even traveling all that way when there's no dolls I want. I'm sure it'll be nice to meet people. :)

    50. Finally they let us know a theme, and that there will be a doll and human costume contest --

"Embrace the feeling of vintage diners, classic cars, and nostalgic pop culture.
Would you like to enter your Dollfie® in a contest!?
There will be a Dollfie® Owners Best Dressed Contest, too!"

Pity that they couldn't have told us this a month ago, to give us more lead time. Fortunately I just mix'n'match from what I have on hand, and I'm inspired -- for my doll, not me, lol.

The One-Offs are growing on me -- decisions, decisions....

      • x 3
    51. Same @beamlette !! Too bad we didn't have a little more advance warning on the theme. Ah well. My doll drawers don't contain any of the 1950s/60s outfits. I always hoped I would have gotten one of the Junichi Nakahara outfits but alas, never happened. If I feel adventurous, I may break out the sewing machine. I'm just excited to come back for Dolpa and visit with everyone again!! :XD: Still debating on who to bring! Decisions ....

      • x 1
    52. They definitely had the theme at least a month ago since they surely gave notice to the seamstresses making the one-off outfits. It's a bummer because they didn't give anyone else nearly enough time to prepare.

      • x 2
    53. I found some designs to use for my girls from the 60s.... no idea what the hell I'm doing for my SDCute. Poor Raphael, the chances of him coming with me for anything other than a new wrist joint, foot and hand keep slipping away...

    54. I double checked, and no I do not have a doll poodle skirt! Since the hotel was at the Torrence Marriot Redondo Beach I was sure it was going to have some either the oath of the silver coin or some beach theme. Definitely caught off by Retro Americana but I'm fully looking forward to seeing everyone's dolls at the tea party!

    55. Never been on those events. Just find out it’s happening. Apparently I already missed lottery registration? And entrance registration is closing this week. Wondering what to expect? Not even sure is pass for 2 days or just for one day? If I can’t be in lottery should I just come on Sunday? Any guidance will help.

    56. Omg you are so right about the Junichi Nakahara outfits for the theme. I really wish Volks could have added some Junichi Alice & Lorinas in the best selection limited line up!

      • x 2
    57. Saturday is the tea party which the entry is already is closed (you're only missing a costume contest and a chance for the memorial one-offs) There is also some dollfie workshops that will happene before the tea party but are for all attendees, which are mostly guides and how to maintain your dolls.
Sunday is the more general event with the sumika shop with all the clothes, shoes, wigs, etc. They will have their doll doctor for restringing and maintenance,. And they will have the lottery for the ICONs, DearSD's, and best selection dolls.

      • x 1
    58. Thx. Sounds like Sunday is better day to come I’m interested in shopping the most

      • x 1
    59. Good point! Junichi Nakahara would have been perfect for the theme, not that I have one but if they had been in Best Selection I would have actually been interested since that Lorina is the only Volks girl I've really wanted.

I think I have time to sew something for my YoSD Yuki girl and figure out an outfit for myself. I suppose I'll be bringing her but I can't decide who else, anyone else having trouble deciding?
I love my big boys best, but space. :sweat
