Volks Doll Party LA 2024 - September 7-8th

I got the confirmation for mine on the 7th, right at the beginning of the afternoon. Me attending in the first place hinged on the fact of getting the tea party entry or not. I did enter right as they opened it up for the lottery. I do hope that they open more slots for the hotel, I'd love to be on site.

 

Yep, absolutely agreed))) And my personal opinion (of course I know volks don’t care about my opinion) that the have to change something in dollpa policy. The event happened ones in few year here, in USA. That really very expected event for all. Why someone has to be unhappy and sit right under door cuz don’t go to tea party. The event should be for all, ppl come from all country to see them. To join to event. I strongly believe that tea party and all other event inside dollpa must be available for all ppl who join to dollpa

 

Maybe Volks booked a small ballroom with an option to expand it if they had enough demand? They expanded the hotel room block three times, so maybe this could be a thing too?

 

I still hope to miracle, cuz two of my friend won lottery, they go in, and I am staying alone under door just waiting for them(((

 

I didn't get in, but the event is a lot more than just the tea party so I'm still going. It sounds like there'll be a few unofficial meetups nearby so I'm sure I'll get the chance to show off my doll there!

 

Ugh, I'm still so torn on going or not. I don't feel so alone now in knowing I didn't get into the tea party though, so its nice of you all to share your results, thank you.

I want to still go though.

I want to get Alain the renewal service since they did such a beautiful job with my Ryu.
I want to play that silly gun game where you get the packages of cool doll stuff. And eye roulette.
I want to enter the contests for some dolls I really want still - and win. I want a Mego-hime DearSD so bad.
I want to go to the Sumika shop and buy the cute crazy limited things aviliable and get some more cute clothes.
I actually kinda want to meet other doll people becuase I'm so shy taslking to new people in real life. There was a super nice girl at the tea party last time I talked with and sat next to and didn't get her info to keep in touch
I want to watch the president play rock, paper, scissors to win the remaining dolls aviliable.

I really wanted to make an outfit for myself and one of my dolls to go to the tea party and enter the contest and not win but have fun doing it anyway. I love playing dress up. I just don't see a reason to bring a doll with me now.
I wanted to see the limited one offs at the tea party and if there was anyone that caught my fancy to try and go for. I love beautiful clothes, I'm such a sucker.
I liked seeing the president and hearing about everything going on with Volks progress.
I liked the little free gifts you got last time at the tea party - I still have those rings, envelopes and choker tucked away safe

ETA: it's a 5 hour flight non stop one way and a $300 hotel room for me. 10 hours on a plane for one afternoon

I'm so sorry I'm trying to work things out in my mind thru posting here, I usually only lurk and rarely comment, but I'm really torn on this. I guess seeing other peoples opinions on things makes it easier for me.

 

I'm surprised to see so many people saying they didn't get in. I also didn't receive an email, but I've attended all the other ones... so I hope new people get to enjoy Dolpa! That's actually more exciting, so see people that got emails and haven't been before~

 

I certainly didn't win one nor did my friends either. Is US Dolpa really that crowded that they cann't at least allow us to apply for the one-off? This is extremely unfriendly.

 

I’m very surprised at the number of people that didn’t get in. The majority of my friends didn’t. They may just be making the tea party very small this year and concentrating the bulk of Dolpa on everything else. I know at December Dolpa they had a lot of really cool new DearSd dolls, so I’m excited to see who they bring. I’m also super excited to see who the dolls are that are featured. Also, last time they brought older outfits they had held back so shopping was awesome. ❤️❤️❤️

 

After so many years in the hobby, this will be my first year being able to attend any Dolpa (and same with a few friends). I’m excited to finally be able to attend a Dolpa Tea Party. It feels kind of like a rite of passage for the hobby. I remember being sooo fascinated by the LA mansion tea parties back when they were a thing. As a teenager, that definitely seemed just like…the ultimate event lol.

I didn't get any notifications for the tea party lottery T_T i don't think i can could justify going to just part of the volks event since it's a long trip, hope everyone that got to go has lots of fun tho!!!

 

I was in my very early twenties during the LA mansion parties and I went to every single one! They were so cool! It really felt magical. Does anyone else remember the Halloween mansion party where almost all the male employees dressed up as maids?! I treasure all those early day memories.

I feel incredibly lucky to be able to attend the Tea Party this year but the feeling is bittersweet because my twin sister didn't get an email. I'll be crushed to go without her. Somehow I hope they send out more emails.

 

Well, no tea party email for me so while my bank account is definitely relieved I am a bit bummed I won't have an excuse to see everyone's lovely dolls! I hope everyone going has a great time!

 

I feel everyone who didn't get in, I didn't get an email either so I won't plan the trip unless the dolls being released there are worth me travelling for otherwise (namely more Williams/other pretty boys)

I'm surprised at the number who didn't, maybe like others said the ballroom is small but either way its unfortunate. I've never been to California so was looking forward to a mini trip.

That's so exciting! I had no idea how lucky I was that I got in! Now to figure out hotel...

 

I also got the Volks email update and my heart literally skipped a beat when I read it.

I can't believe it. There's still hope. I kinda cant stop smiling.

Thank you so much Volks, even if I don't get picked again, for doing this for your fans and customers. It means so much that they listened and are trying to make more people happy and able to attend.

I guess maybe they didn't realize how popular they actually are and how many people love them and wanted to come to thier party.

 

Oh, Volks knows how popular they are. But the last Dolpa here was pre-pandemic, so they were probably erring on the side of caution not knowing how many people would feel comfortable. Business is still fairly poor for most retailers, and travel expenses are a lot higher.

 

Thank goodness they're asking for more space. I feel like it would've just been a ghost town or something...

 

It looks like a second round of lottery acceptance emails went out, so check your emails and I hope everyone that was hoping to go got lucky!

 

I have been blessed by Mother SD with a round two Tea Party ticket after all! I am beyond elated! Hoping more people get in as well!

Didn't win the 2nd round. Though I wish they posted the entire event plan. I hear the one off is closed off to only tea party. I'm not really sure what's happening Sunday...

 

Huh. No email for me with any news. Are they sending rejection emails too or we’re just assuming if you don’t get an email you didn’t get in?

 

I don't see how this Dolpa could be quite the same as the 2019, but the video report gives you a fair idea of what happens outside the tea. There's plenty to entertain, particularly if you are entertained by doll shopping .

 

I'm staying at one of the nearby hotels! It's not ideal (I hate the idea of having to haul all my things to and from Dolpa each day) but the price was much better than staying on site. More money to squirrel away for Dolpa spending

 

I also found one nearby (like, across the street?). Price wasn't too different, but I also am going to be in a suite AND i'm staying an extra night because I didn't want to rush myself out of LA right on sunday evening.

 

I'm actually going to be at the Best Western on the same street, and planning on flying in on the same schedule right now. Slightly shorter walking distance. A little more expensive but it could have been way worse I suppose. I'll have a suite and would be able to do microwave cooking.

 

I'm staying at the Residence Inn and driving down from NorCal because I hate wasting money on fast/unhealthy food while I'm traveling I love having the option of a little kitchenette. It's within walking distance of the host hotel but I may just drive over on Saturday and Sunday.

 

I considered driving down from NorCal, but am currently planning to fly down instead. That way I can take more time to rest on Monday before going back to work. That being said, flying with resin dolls brings its own anxieties, but it'll work out.

I do have a room booked at the hotel, but it's so expensive for even just 3 days to be in such an isolated area of the city =_= hence I'm also considering just booking a late night flight from LAX on Sunday instead of Monday morning

 

I'm flying in from John Wayne and staying near the airport. I'm going to drive up there. Im assuming Saturday is mostly for Tea Party, I'm just going to explore OC in Sat and visit Sunday.

 

Any word anywhere on theming yet? I need to get started on clothes for my dolls and I kinda want to do it to theme. Otherwise I've got so much galaxy print cotton laying around we might just go with that XD

The Good news is my mom got in on the second tea party lottery draw! I, however did not, but that's OK! At least we've got a better reason to take that 5 hour flight! Yay!

I can get my doll the renewal service and everything else I wanted to do besides the tea party ^.^. Now I just need the theme to start a costume for my mom and whichever lucky doll gets to go.

I'm much happier now, thanks volks for extending that tea party.

No Tea Party ticket for me but I'm still planning on going. I hope we get some more information soon on what to expect. I'm crossing my fingers that they offer the trade in service again.

 

No Tea Party for me either, but I'm still excited to go! It'll be my first Dolpa. I have no idea who I'll bring, since I'm not sure I want to fly with one of my resin dolls. Maybe I'll muster up the courage for Oscar.

 

Yep, I remember the mansion parties well. It was fun entering the costume contest, there were some very unique entries.

I'm excited to be going, five years is a looong time between Dollpas! I expect there will be more information shared at AX next week or at the BJD panel at Comic-Con.

 

Aha! Thanks to Cloudedmind for posting a few days ago that they sent out more tea party tickets, I got one on the second round!
I think I'll stay at a nearby hotel as well and head back on the Monday so I have a bit more time. I don't know the area at all but the Dolpa hotel not super close to the airport is it? Hoping I can Uber my way around.
And now for what doll/ to bring which is the really hard question. I think my Midi boys may be a better size but I love my bigger guys too.

 

@reaperofleaves congrats on getting in! The host hotel is only about 10 miles from LAX, so it shouldn't be too hard for rideshare.

Congratulations on securing a tea party ticket! And same for myself, first time that I'm attending as well. I didn't want to miss it. And yes DDs should be accepted as they are volks dolls.

 

I imagined they should, but sometimes Volks is particular in what they allow. That’s exciting though, congrats!

 

I'm figuring out my hotel still, maybe one of the close by ones but if anyone would be willing to split for hotel let me know since I'm undecided on where to stay still.

We’re a little over a month away and I’m surprised Volks haven’t released more news yet! I was hoping to hear about the theme by now. I got back into the hobby last year, so I wasn’t here for the last LA dolpa, do any of you know if they withheld information this close to the last dolpa?

 

My exact thoughts. This event does not seem to be like 2019's event in previewing but since there was extensions on the room blocks and the tea party expansion maybe it will be large in the amount of items and dolls Volks brings on Sunday.
I would have liked to see other vendors like 2019 but if no one is advertising that they will be selling at the event (besides Volks being quiet) I gather that's a no.

 

I was lucky and got into the tea party which makes it worth it to go, but for people who didn’t get in, It would be nice to know what items or see some sort of preview to see if its worth the trip. Especially people who have to fly in! Im guessing after this july dolpa on the 28th, volks will release some news.

 

I was so looking forward to maybe getting a chance to sell handmade SD dresses but Volks hasn’t said a word about a Dealer’s Hall

 

I wonder if it's going to be smaller than 2019's dolpa? Or maybe it just hasn't been much of a priority for them?

 

Seems like it’s going to be smaller to me. They’ve posted the things they plan to have and a dealers hall is not listed so I assume that is not happening.
