Volks 10th Aniversary 2008/09 event dates and Hotel Europe?

Jan 5, 2008

    1. Hi,
When I went to Doll party 18 I was given this card with all the upcomeing dates. Its simple enought to work most of it out with out understanding Japanese. Looks like an exciting year with another cruise and and mystery USA thing in november.
But I need some help with is the Hotel Europe bits, the logo for a hotel europe with a windmill and tulips.
Can any one translate whats being said? Does anyone know about hotel Europe?
The hotel Europe logo was in the back of Volks News 26 as well.
      Scans:

      Something in Feburary.

Then Janary and feb of 2009.

    2. Tullips and windmils...wouldn't that be the Huis Ten Bosch event February 16-17?

Ooooh, in June I think it says Dolls Party in America... it says
"Dolls Pary" in November too... I think I see "2008" mentioned too...

I can only read kana so I am pretty useless here... can't wait for someone who has taken some Japanese to get on these...

Glah, I would PAY for this flyer... wish there was a way to order this kinda stuff on the website.

    3. I think that it is a recap of the past year...
with info about the upcoming dolpa, and then the 10yr anniversary event

it looks like that they have a picture of Jun tachibana and her cat. Maybe they plan to re-relase her as a special 10 yr anniversary thing...

    4. Yes, it's Huis Ten Bosch, I can't read all the Kanji but it's there in katakana. ;)

    5. Thank you ^0^
Jun's cat and Jun seemed to be mascos for Doll party. They were on the limited doll box bags and all in the guide book.

    6. Based on the place name at the top, I'd say Hotel Europe is in Nagasaki, and it's going to be the place where the 10th anniversary party is going to be held. :)

    7. I am going to go on a limb.

Tulips and Windmills are a big deal in Holland. But yeah...here's the Hotel Europe in Nagasaki:

      http://nagasaki.okura.com/

For a second I thought "What? They're doing an event in Holland???" But....naaaaah :)

Edit: I get it now. See below:

"Hotel Europe Nagasaki is a five-star luxury hotel, modeled after the famous Hotel de l'Europe in Amsterdam, and is the flagship hotel of the 380-acre Huis Ten Bosch theme park resort near Nagasaki. Just minutes from Nagasaki Airport and approximately an hour from Nagasaki city, Hotel Europe Nagasaki invites you to enjoy the ultimate in comfort and tranquillity within the unique setting of Huis Ten Bosch.

Featuring Dutch architecture accented with Italian marble inside the hotel's stunning and spacious Lobby, Hotel Europe Nagasaki offers 329 guest rooms, including 20 suites. Each of the hotel rooms is graciously appointed with European furnishings and fully equipped with the most up-to-date hotel amenities."

    8. The USA Dolpa events are likely to be the ones held in NY and LA... (June and November) Not much of a mystery. And as everyone has mentioned so far, the 10th anniversary is held at Huis Ten Bosch.

    9. Well, the Dopla USA 2008 for June may possibly stay in NY. But the one that may take place in November may not be in LA. The description states "so where will this event take place. It is fun to find out later.)
Shino san did tell us that there were a lot of requests for them to hold Dolpa at locations other than LA and NY; they were seriously considering that option. I truly hope that they will announce it soon. I need to make plan between going to the one in June or NY.

    10. Really? It'll be unfortunate for me if it's not in LA because I'm not in any position to travel due to school. I'm sure that I'm not the only one with this problem. =(

    11. Yeah, I know. I live in LA too. So, I would really love it if one of the Dolpa stays in LA. But it is for them to decide. I still think that November is bad traveling time in US. I really hope it would not be taking place on Thanksgiving weekend; because I would not be able to afford to travel during that week, if it was not in LA :...(

    12. We could assume that it would be NY/LA, but given that they've put in the whole "Who knows where it will be" tag, especially on November, it throws a bit of a wrench in the speculation.

Something to bear in mind, however: Neither location seems to be confirmed other than they will be in the US. Therefore, it's not entirely impossible that Volks has two entirely different cities in mind for next year. We won't know until they say it flat out. I need to go back and see when (roughly) the NY/LA Dolpas were formally announced to get a sense of when that information might start coming out.

An aside: I would think that LA would be a logistical favorite: they have the store there that things can be shipped to, they have local employees that they don't have to fly over, and LA is a major hub within reasonable flying distance from Japan.

    13. True, but they already have one in NY which is about as from from LA as you can get in the US. XD I think it'd be nice to mix it up and have one somewhere else simply BECAUSE people in LA are close enough that they can always go to the LA Sumika if they need something or want to order FCS, but people elsewhere in the country don't have that option short of some fairly major travel. I think Chicago or somewhere in the Midwest would be good as there hasn't been a (Volks official) US event that's not on the coasts yet.

    14. Seconding the hope for a Midwest/Chicago event! :-D

*subscribing to this thread* I really hope someone can trasnlate this flyer.

    15. Yes please! A mid-west event would be so nice! I know there have been many requests for one, perhaps we'll get lucky!

    16. If it were a little bigger in parts (the whole calendar) I could read it better. Basically the 2/16 thing is talking about the 10th anniversary or "birthday" as their calling it. I think the celebrations are starting with the whole Huis Ten Bosch and hotel Europa thing. Which I think is also in nagasaki. Not familiar with a lot of place name kanji, but I'm willing to bet those are them

Can you scan the month of november in question a little bigger.

    17. Let's fold 1000 paper cranes and mail them to Volks asking for one. XD

    18. If the scan is bigger I'd be more than happy to translate this flyer. :) Unfortunately the small lettering combined with the high resolution of my screen isn't doing my already poor eyesight any good. *_*

    19. Certainly
bigger scans: hope they are okay.

    20. Hehe I'd fold some cranes to get one located in the midwest.

    21. That is the translation to all the events on the flyers provided, if I made any mistakes please don't hesitiate to inform me! *_* Hope this helped! :aheartbea

    22. Thats wonderful thankyou.

    23. Just glad I could help! :)

    24. Wow thank you so much for the translation!

So many events next year :D I wonder where the USA Dolpa will be.. I hope it stays in California but I'll probably go wherever it is.

    25. I think the June USA DP is going to be either LA or NY, where it has been held before. But for November I think it could be anywhere, since they're searching for a "back-up destination"! Volks must be thinking of another big city...?

    26. Thank you for the translations!

That bit about the November US show might mean that they weren't able to get the location they used before. Some of the conventions in Southern California move around a lot. Anime Expo is changing venues again this year, for example.

    27. Hmm, that's a very good point! So it could very well still be in LA or NY but in a convention centre different to where they were held before? Volks is so good at keeping information confidential, it's so difficult to speculate! *_*

    28. I actually have around 470 chiyogami cranes stashed away... I make them between classes. :sweat

Between the two of use the remaining 630-ish shouldn't be too hard!

It's a cute idea, HF. :aheartbea

I think it's great that Volks may be looking into more event locations within the 'States.

    29. Thanks for the translation! I have a couple of questions not about the events but about ....

    30. thanks for the translation. Two questions.

      1. Who are the little girl and the cat graphics?

      2. Who are VIP members in Japan?

      Thanks!

      Deni

    31. 1. The girl is Tachibana Jun and the black cat belongs to her. She's from the Tokyo Boys story arc and was released a few years back as a LE.

      2. I have no idea... I think you have to be signed up at an actual shop (e.g. Tenshi no Sato in Kyoto).

    32. VIP members are people who pay Volks to have VIP cards. Anyone who buys from Volks, was a VS or something... This is a point-card system. VIP pay either a monthy or yearly fee (can't remember) and get to go to events (and I think got points even if they didn't pay with cash... VS has to use cash for points. ANNOYING if you did THREE fcs with card... -.- )

Or, that is what my brain tried to remember... the guy explained it to me over the summer, but my Japanese is pretty poor...

    33. Oh! I didn't know VS and VIP members are different... OTL Better go edit my translation! :sweat

    34. That is just so awesome! XD I'll have to get out my origami paper and learn to make a crane STAT!

    35. Hmmmmm... night_x_walker and I were talking tonight, and we're wondering if they might consider Vegas. Seeing they've been there before, that would be a neat idea for a Dolpa.

I would think they would at least stick to East and West sides of the country, if they are thinking of different cities.

      Mmm.. Vegas Dolpa. :D

    36. Maybe I'm crazy, but, I found my origami paper and I'm going to give it a try. If anyone would like to join my paper crane crusade for a Chicago Dolpa, check it out here:

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=186900

Thanks to Alchemical and roro for the encouragement!

    37. Ummm...from my point of view ... no, just no! I'd love to have a Dolpa somewhere that isn't going to break the freaking bank to go to. I've been to one event each in both LA & NYC and as much fun as I had at them & as much as I'm longing to go to one again, I hesitate because the cost is so phrohibitive.

So from my point of view a Dolpa or Tea Party in the MidWest would be great, say in Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City or someplace like that. I'm sure that not every Dolpa in Japan costs 2 arms & a leg to go to so it's unfortunate (but I guess understandable) that being so far from Japan & newer to the Volks hobby that we would get stuck with only the choices of LA or NYC for events here in the US.

I guess I've rambled enough, sorry about that. And ofcourse it would be justt way too cool to have an event in Dallas.;) Truly no airfare for me for that one!

      Morgan

    38. The thing that I've noticed is that Volks does not have a habit of choosing say, the Motel 6 for their events, be they US based or Japanese based. Though they could do like they did with the LA Dolpa and offer reduced rates, I think they favor moderate-cost venues, perhaps with bilingual staff that speak Japanese (and by "staff" I am thinking more of event coordination staff, though it's not entirely impossible that Volks has an event coordinator that speaks fluent English!)

And airfares? Those, I've found, are really luck-of-the-draw situations, dependent not only on the destination, but also where you start and sheer timing/luck. This will likely be the same no matter what location Volks chooses.

I see Chicago as a good candidate, especially with their petition to get one there that's been up for some time. I have friends who live there myself, and I have a cursory knowledge of the transit there. :)

As for other options, here are two other qualifications I think they would be likely to consider:
-A city with a good international airport, particularly with direct flights to Japan, or low connections.
-A moderate to major tourist city. It looks pretty on the marketing, and is likely to have the airport facilities. Sorry, "Volks Dolpa in Battle Creek, Michigan" (my hometown, incidentally) just won't look the same as say "Volks Dolpa in San Francisco" (my current residence) :D
-Areas where high customer request is coming from. I am sure they will at least investigate options in places they have received requests from. Whether the information they get is fruitful? That will be up to Volks to decide.

Ramble? You? Look at this entry ;D

I think we'd all want a Dolpa in our backyard ;D Alas..... Hee. A Dolpa in My Backyard....better than a pony!

    39. Actually, Las Vegas can be surprisingly affordable, even to stay at a nicer place on the strip. A couple of years ago, three friends and I shared a room at the Paris, and it was pretty reasonable, I think $150/night for three (four?) nights split three ways. Getting around was easy, finding food was easy and cheap, too. Volks had a presence at the big ole' doll show in Vegas before, too, so it's not necessarily unfamiliar turf.

Being selfish, I'd have to toot the Boston horn, except that it's got one very big drawback, which is to say no direct flights from Japan. HOWEVER! Boston has a lot of possibilities in terms of venues, lodging, and entertainment, plus we have public transportation, great seafood, and a World Series-winning baseball team. New York is stupid expensive and also dead to me at the moment due to a bad time there in December... it's a really impractical place to hold conventions. Chicago, though... ah, I do love Chicago, it's *extremely* affordable, has great public transportation, has tons of good potential venues, and best of all... Chicago has Chicago hot dogs, by which I mean Superdawg. Oh, man. Yes, I will send you guys some cranes. I haven't been to Chicago in ages, and it really is a great city... I would've moved there if I hadn't met my boyfriend/eventual husband, whose career options sort of need him to stick around here in the Boston area. :aheartbea :aheartbea :aheartbea

    40. That would be.... GREAT!~ I mean, I feel bad for everyone who lives in the midwest and is hoping for a Chicago Dolpa, but VEGAS BABY!!!! I love where I live... EVERYONE eventually caves and comes to Vegas... ;)

Vegas isn't bad, really. It's just like any other big city, cheaper than many others (I've always had a MUCH higher ticket-trip going to Baltimore, Philly, and San Fran for example). Actually, you can get some good deals on and off strip.... You can get rooms for under $70 a night at several on-strip locations, and there is always the 20 miles and any direction that is not Strip-land... Shows, good shopping, good food, usually people can find cheap airfare, and anything else that tickles your fancy... hmmm... I should start a "Volks, Come Back to Vegas" thread...

If there is a Vegas dolpa, I shall be your hostess for the pre-party. =D

    41. Thanks! I couldn't remember the names. The doll holder bags Volks used for the LA Dolpa special offerings (SD16 Ruby and Garnet etc) had Jun and the Cat on them. I was told the cats name - but can't remember it.

    42. Appreciate the answer. Maybe someday there will be something similar for US members, although that could mean the Poor House, but what fun getting there!

    43. Isn't there some VIP thing with credit cards, too? Or is that what you meant by point cards? Ah~ I wish we could have Volks credit cards here in America! I'd rack up so many points on my way to the poor house! :-p

    44. Hmmmm, I am sure someone knows more then I... if memory serves me I ~THINK~ VIP members could apply for a Volks credit card, just like there are Sears and Target cards here in America. Possibly VS members could, but for some reason I think it is a VIP thing only... Cassiel probably knows.

    45. I would like it if the Dolpa moved to SF but I know there is almost 0% chance of this happening as that would still be in California.

I keep hoping for a Jun re-release as well! Please let 2008 be the year :eusa_pray

    46. California, yes, but you know as well as I that California is like...3 states in one ;D

    47. They have Masha for the guests and the guests only.
She's in my wishlist but alas, no chances getting her.

    48. Volks FLORIDA. ;3

    49. The FDQ website says that Volks Dolpa3 2008 in NYC will be co-hosted by FDQ on June 6-7, 2008 in New York.

But it sounds like there will be no Dolpa for Los Angeles in Nov 2008. Boo hoo! I have been looking forward to it! :...(

    50. Until a date is finalized, I don't consider Los Angeles out of the running. Yes, the hints out there imply that it won't be Los Angeles, but that doesn't mean that after research they won't come back.

      Personally, I just hope it's a location I can go to. I don't ask for much :)

    51. I hope it's a location that I could go to AND during a time that I could travel. @__@

    52. I wish they will come to Florida, we can all take a dolly cruise?

      Geri

    53. Ooh, the Volks NYC Dollpa is right after A-Kon and I want to go to both! Since I went to the NYC Dollpa last year I'll probably skip it this year and go to the one in November.

While LA or Vegas are nice suggestions, I vote for New Orleans! I wouldn't have to worry about airfare, I could drive there! *laughs*

    54. I'm wondering if the surprise US location is Chicago since there was a petition for Chicago Dolpa.

June 6-7 is good it's near my anniversary again

    55. I think that Chicago is a good candidate as is Vegas. The chances of the holding 2 Dolpas on the same coast seems slim. My money is on Vegas because it is easy to get to (lots of direct flights, cheap accomodations, many of venue choices, etc.) I wish they would hold a Dolpa in Washington DC in the spring when all the Cherry Blossoms are in bloom!

    56. I'd be up for LA again, Vegas, maybe even S.F. I could drive to the first two of those, so those retain my vote. :)

I guess we will see, though.

      ~Anrui

    57. I would not be surprised if it ended up Chicago. However, if they decide to stick to an Easterly/Westerly locale as they did before, I would say that the following cities seem most possible (in no order of priority):

      San Francisco
      Seattle
      Portland
      Los Angeles
      Reno
      Las Vegas
      Phoenix
      San Diego

Of these, the ones I see being the most likely (in no particular order) are Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

If it is Chicago, my chances are lower to go this year to a Dolpa. I suppose it won't kill me, as I do have Dollectible that is literally walking distance from my house. But night_x_walker and I did hope that we could do faceup classes :)

    58. Wow! :o What exciting news! :D It would be great if they had a Dolpa somewhere in the middle of America! :aheartbea As long as they still have one in New York City! ;)

I heard that the girl is supposed to be SD Standard Megu. :) She looks a lot like her with her long black hair and white slip. :daisy Since Megu was one of the very first Super Dollfies, it would be so neat if they used her as an icon! :love

The black kitty is Jun Tachibana's stuffed animal. :) I forgot his name, but isn't he cute? :chibi

    59. VIP/VS membership is nearly ostensibly the same thing. I asked someone fluent in Japanese to translate the information in 2005 when I asked a friend in Japan to join for me. ^_^;;

Anyone can get points if they spend cash at a Volks store in Japan. However if you want to be invited to special events, receive Volks News in the mail, and be able to get points for using a credit card you need VIP or VS membership.

VS membership can be bought at any Volks store in Japan and I believe is like 1100 yen (possibly as high as 1300 yen) around $11 US. Technically, you need a Japanese mailing addy to apply since they send you Volks News in the mail once you sign up. (as well as invites to VS/VIP events, so for example, my friend got my invitation to October Tenshi no Sato event, which is what I used when I attended.)

VIP membership just means that rather than just paying Volks 1100 yen, you've also applied for the official Volks Credit Card.

    60. I think San Francisco does have a good shot. The extended Bay Area including San Jose and Sacremento could pull in a lot of people and people are certainly willing to go to SF from So.Cal, the PacNorth, Hawaii and Canada as we've seen from Dollectable's attendance. There's lots of relatively inexpensive flights between Japan and SFO. I don't know if they'd consider the expense of the city? Compared to cities in Japan, SF is about on par with what they're used to. I also know the Shigetas have a lot of friends and some family up here.

I think Chicago would be an equally good draw. I don't know if the Shigetas seem like Vegas bound types if that makes any sense and I'm not sure they could get quite enough people pulled up to Seattle. Just my opinion of course.
