66cm+ Dolls Violet head (human) for 68cm Impldoll body

Heyo, I'm sculpting a head for the Impldoll 68cm female idol body I have on layaway. This is one of my OCs, Violet. To avoid some confusion, I'm also sculpting an entire doll named Violet--a werewolf--because she is a werewolf also. But, this thread is for just the human head that I'm sculpting.

I ordered the 10.3 cm neck option for the body, as I was originally going to use a Morfeo head for her, but one weekend I kinda just sat down and did almost all of the sculpting for her, so, I'm going to go with my own sculpt.

I want to have it casted, but have to wait till I get the body and make sure it fits. I ordered it about a month ago and not sure how long it'll take to arrive, as I did order the tan color.

I'm at the stage where I'm ready to hollow out the head, and then I will be able to test print. I'd like to test print to check eye, neck, and magnet size ahead of the doll body arriving.

 

Worked on this the last couple of days. I'm working on the inside of the head; I think I have the features how I want them now, save for maybe some very small tweaks that nobody would notice. I used the lighting thing in Nomad to check if this shading reads "Violet" to me and, I think it does.





I took some measurements for the neck hole and eyeballs, but I will approach calculating that once it doesn't hurt my brain as much. It'll be harder to scale two things against each other than just measuring one part of a doll and scaling it up. I also am going to measure for my little enamel logo thing for the inside of the head cap.

 

I cleaned the first test print today. No print defects, but I want to slightly change the size of the magnet port area along with the pokey parts of the tooth-shaped keys. The cutout for the inside of the head is also a tooth (the character is a dentist).









I had no body to put her on, but I did have a headless Harold prototype on my work table...

So, like the title says, I made this head for an Impldoll body that I'm waiting on. For now, I think I'll just practice faceups on this head, but once I get the body, I will try to color match it with the samples I have from Harucasting, and then pick out a couple colors to have her casted in. I'm undecided on whether I will do a preorder but for now, I'm wanting to just order a batch and then sell them when I vend at Resin Rose, kind of as a fun exclusive thing. Anyway... the ball is in Impldoll's court now, so...

For my own info (and others I guess), her eye size is 12mm, and I did the neck as 10.5 with the logic that the head could be for any gender of doll body.

I printed my second prototype with small revisions to the keys yesterday, and worked on evening out the head cap on both of my prototypes. The more pink one is the master and the gray one is the first proto I had posted above. It needed some slight revisions to help me feel better about the magnet ports and tooth-shaped keys inside her head.







My first prototype has now become "Sphinx Violet" after I put her on one of my big Muriel bodies. I am now modding one of my extra big Muriels so her head fits on it better. I will use this character to practice airbrushing and faceups once I get my airbrush (waiting on a Black Friday purchase for that...)

Harucasting is casting another doll of mine, Harold (I didn't make a thread for that doll here), and because I will be shipping him that prototype this month, I will also send him this Violet head to have a small batch casted. I'm not doing a preorder for this head but I will just buy some in a few colors and plan to offer her for sale at Resin Rose when I vend there next August.

Also, for funsies, I'm making a Sphinx Violet sticker to give out at the con; spouse suggested she has a jar full of riddles and if you answer one correctly, you get a sticker. Anyway... Not sure what the color scheme will be but I'd like some metallic blues in there.

I have primed the master prototype and today, I mailed it off to Harucasting (along with my other doll, Harold). Again, I'm ordering a batch of these for Resin Rose and not doing a preorder for them. I might allow the option to order ahead and pick up at the con, though, for a smaller number of them (but I do need to keep some as in-stock ones). Anyway, here are a few of the photos I sent to Haru back when I got the estimate. They have since been sanded smoother than this.








I think I hadn't posted an image of this part before, but the inside of the head and head cap is a tooth shape, as well as the magnet keys.


I also got my little logo things in the mail today! They are cute and I'm happy with them. These will be what I put on the inside of my cast dolls' heads, including this one.




I will be getting three colors of this head to start with: Haru's peach normal and light tan, as well as a custom color of a light gray-lavender. Proportionally, there are fewest of the light tan (I will only have two for sale, as I am keeping one).

 

Haru got back to me with a photo this morning: a Violet in peach normal. I'm unsure whether he'll do the other colors immediately or not, but I'm excited to share it! Here is the first resin Violet.

Another photo from Haru the other day. I think this is the "light tan" color, although the photo looks much different from the sample resin piece I have (I think it's just lighting, though). I only ordered 3 of the light tan color and will be keeping one for myself.

Got another update from Haru of the light lavender-gray color.

This is the last color for the heads. As far as I know, he hasn't cast Harold yet (another doll of mine that I didn't make a thread for here), so I think he'll hold off on shipping the Violets to me until the Harold preorder is done.

So, at Resin Rose I'll have 5 in this color, 2 in Haru's light tan, and 7 in Haru's peach normal. If I don't sell them out, I will probably make them available on my personal site. I might offer a smaller number of them that can be reserved before the convention and picked up there.




Since my last post, the Impldoll body I ordered for this project had arrived, but it was the wrong resin color. I'm waiting on the replacement now.

 

Thank you so much! She's a character I've had a while, and is actually related to two of my other OCs, so I made her facial features a combination of theirs.

I came here to post the photo Haru sent me of all 15 of the finished heads. The "light tan" and the light gray-/lavender look much darker than in the progress photos he sent me; I asked about this and he said the photo itself just looks darker. Since the light tan in particular is one of his own color mixes, I trust that it'll look the same as the sample I have. He is shipping them to me tomorrow. I hope they arrive safely.

To my surprise, my package from Haru arrived today (a day earlier than they said, but also just very quickly in general; it literally took 2 or 3 days to arrive to the USA from Korea). Ironically, I still don't have the body for her, and I would have never guessed I'd sculpt and have a head cast during the entire time waiting for it. The initial body Impldoll sent me was the wrong color, so I'm still waiting on the replacement tan body from them; it's currently in distribution center purgatory for almost a month and I'm trying not to think it'll never show up...



But anyway! The colors look so good. The "light tan" was indeed an exact match for the resin sample I had from Haru. The lavender-gray color looks good too, but it is VERY hard to get an accurate photo of that color specifically. A lot of times, the color sort of washes out or gets way too saturated when I photograph it. The side profile one looked the most accurate color-wise to me; I tried to photograph the others on a neutral gray sweatshirt of mine for color accuracy.

Also, a few photos showing the fit on the Impldoll 68cm body. I did intentionally make the neck hole 10.5cm, so it is slightly bigger than the 10.3 Impldoll offers, but I think it looks fine--to my eye, at least. Here it is on their dark tan body color.







Here is a tan one with eyeballs and some quickly penciled in eyebrows. This is the one I'll keep for myself.



I'll probably just watch a movie or a stream this weekend while gluing in the magnets and metal logos for them. They are delightful and Haru did a great job with them.

I think I'll offer a smaller percentage of them as a order-ahead thing for pickup at Resin Rose if anyone is really keen on reserving one. Because I will only have two of the light tan, I think I would only offer one for sale beforehand (again, with pickup at the con) and have the other at my booth.

 

Today, I got the 68cm Impldoll body in brown. Surprisingly, it's a really good match for the Harucasting "light tan" color I had three of the heads cast in. The faceup isn't quite finished (I stopped working on it, thinking I'd need to redo it to match the body lol) but I'm happy/scared I can now attempt to paint hairs for her buzz cut. Here are a few images of the resin match. It's weird and really cool to have a large doll to display this head on. I think the proportions work really well!

For some reason, they equipped a larger head hook on this one than the other two same model bodies I have interacted with from Impldoll; they included the smaller hook in the box but not after I scratched the neck hole of two of my heads... Anyway... I'm still really pleased and can't wait to bring her to Resin Rose to display my work! Here she is in her dentist outfit.

I wanted to post an update on one of the heads I made a faceup for. I'm still new to faceups, but hope to be able to make at least one in each color for my booth at Resin Rose. Two of my other heads are out with faceup artists as well (one peach normal and one lavender).

Here's the lavender one I have finished. At least, I think it's finished. Being new at faceups, it's hard for me to get a sense when it's done.

I plan to add eyelashes, but don't have any at the moment.
