[ Video ] Ten Photoshoot Tips to Save Your Life

Sep 13, 2012

    1. Okay, so I put this video together for my DA and YouTube watchers and uploaded it yesterday - I've had a few people contact me and say I should post it here because apparently some of the advice I have is a little quirkier than most and might be useful to other people.

Well, here I am and here is my video. XD; I ramble on about these ten things for a total of 20 minutes and I really hope it's not boring (or I'm not too herpy-derpy for you guys). In any case, a couple of the things I cover in the video:

      • [*=center]Wig disasters! What I keep in my backpack to avoid them!
        [*=center]Point-and-shoot trickery!
[*=center]How to avoid bad lighting situations
[*=center]General tips I think about when doing photoshoots <3
[*=center]You get to stare at Mickey in his lovely wig the entire time 8Db

      I hope I posted this in the right place/it's appropriate for this forum -- and I hope you guys find some useful tips in there. If not, I at least hope I entertained you for a while XD;;;

If you have any questions or anything specific you want to know or want me to make a video on... feel free to ask. I'm not a professional photographer - just a random that learns a bunch through trial and error and practice, so I'll do my best to answer <3

    2. This was very helpful, thank you!! :)

    3. Quite a nice list of tips. I really appreciated the info on hair products.

    4. You're welcome! I'm glad you found it useful!

I'm glad you found it useful hun <3

    5. The lint roller thing seems like such an ingenious idea, why have I never seen that before?! >.<
Very handy video (and quite funny XD)! Thank you for making it :D

    6. thanks for the tips! :)

    8. That was super helpful! Thank you so much for the tips :)

    9. Haha, I know right? Lint rollers - who knew o_o! I got one because I got a cat and he just liked to sit all over the clothes I wear XDDD Then I started using it on my dollies... and that was it. Had to keep one around allll the time! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and found some useful stuff in there!

      You're very welcome!

Aww thanks hun! Well practice always helps and hopefully you'll be able to try out some new things to see if they work for you~ ^_^ And of course if you have any questions, I'll do my best to help you out with them <3

You're very welcome! I'm glad it was useful <3 ^____^

    10. Great tips. Thank you so much. The hair products and lint roller ideas are ingenious. I really enjoyed your sense of humor too!

    11. No waffletache technique!?!?!? You disappoint me.

    12. I did not think I was going to sit and listen to the whole thing, but you were too amusing. xD
Or maybe I was just enjoying your accent, LOL.
Great tips and just the thing for a quiet rainy morning!

    13. I watched your video a while back, and I must say your tip about putting distance between the dolls and their background instantly made my photos like 5 times better!! Thank you! ^3^

    14. :DGreat tips!! I was wondering what type of anti frizz serium you used on doll hair wigs?

    15. This is really helpful considering I've been needing help with taking better photos! :)

    16. I watched this and was immediately stunned that you weren't American! I'm so not used to meeting other Australian doll owners!
Great tips, especially about the wigs. One of my girls has the single worst wig in the world; her flyaways are just astounding, so this should hopefully help her out a bit! That and the photography advice, but I'm lacking in the camera department ATM so... They'll just have to stay in the back if my mind for now xD

    17. I'm an idiot. I thought gridbug said "anti-freeze" at first, not "anti-frizz". Thanks gothic hydran 126.

    18. VERY helpful! =D
      Thanks a lot.
I was going with the brightest hour of the day and ya and washed out my doll features.

I am going to try to shoot tomorrow around 5 coz it's when the light is not at it's brightest then.

    19. Aww thank you! I'm glad they helped 8D

Haha only you would want the wafflestache technique XD

haha, I know I ramble tons, hey? XDDDD But I'm glad you enjoyed the entire thing <3

I'm so glad it helped you out! I know it's not like a super tricky pro thing, but you know 8D Every little bit helps XDD

I use one from the Stefan line called Movie Star Iron Finish? It's one that's meant to be for after you straighten your hair with a straightener? It's a spray rather than like a squirt serum. So something along those lines usually works best?

I'm so glad you found it useful!

haha in my intro video I was all like I'm not Americannnnn everyone thinks I ammmmm XDDD I dunno why, but yeah XDD Hopefully everything will come together well. Flyaways drive me insanneee XD

Haha XDD wow that's the best mis-hear ever <33

I hope it turns out for you! Let me know how it goes!

    20. Thanks for the tips! I always have trouble with lightning. I must say, your boy is gorgeous :D

    21. Very hepful, great tips, thank you so much!:)

    22. Very very helpful.. the only thing though, is I don't trust a sticky lint roller on tiny stitches in delicate material : ( I loved lint rollers until I tried it on certain clothes of my own.. I feel like they snag stuff

    23. Lighting is a bit of a bugger - but once you get a feel for the kind you like, it'll become natural! Also thank you~ Mickey gives you many hugs <3

You're welcome! I'm glad you found them useful!

If you're careful and don't use the super strong ones, usually they're just fine (I suggest buying the cheap travel sized ones from a dollar store since they seem less tacky than the 'proper' more expensive lint rollers). Hopefully you find this makes a difference?

    24. Thank you so much for posting this! :) I'm a complete newbie when it comes to taking photos, so I'll suck in every bit of these advices! I didn't think of any of these (well, except for the battery one...:'D), and I'll definitely try them on my boy. Especially the anti-frizz spray, because my boy has a fiber-wig that frizzes big time since it's got waves and curls. ^.^;;

    25. anti-frizz spray helps a lot~ I hope your future shoots go well ^___^

    26. This is great. I'm off to get anti-frizz spray and a baby fork! :fangirl:

    27. haha nice tips n_n even though i dont have a doll yet its still useful, I love photography in general, oh and you seem like someone i could get along with (i also lives in australia but victoria)

    28. haha good luck in your wig styling adventures!!

welcome to the wonderful world of dollies, fellow Aussie <3 Hopefully this'll help you out when your doll finally arrives ^_^

    29. Oh, I know I woulda never thought of some of this stuff on my own. Thanks for the info!

    30. I FINALLY got around to watching this one <3

It occurred to me that Mickey looks like an overlaid image :p You're more tan than him! Also... I REMEMBER THAT TAFT POWDER HURRHURR.

The other awesome thing if you don't use hair products because you can't find an oil free one or it simply DOESN'T WORK and makes the wig sticky, I use fabric softener <3

RE: Washing wigs- warm water (NOT HOT) and a little washing detergent (Only a little!) works well <3 Trust me. My PKF Mio managed to get her wig dropped in fanta *Don't ask*. Clean again now though !

    31. muahahaha i'm gonna take doll photos, lol thanks for the tips

    32. oh, really useful tips which easy to be ignored. thats funny& cute XD Thank you for your tips~

    33. It's really helpful! I would try out your tips in my next shooting!! Thank you for sharing!!

    34. Thank you for these tips. I cant wait until I get my girls in and get to do photo shoots of my own. All the tips are super helpful for a new person like me.

    35. Your whole video made me smile. :) A lot of really good tips in there too, so thank you for not only the twenty minutes of giggles and entertainment, but for the information you provided as well! :D

-off to go check out in which directions all 19 sets of doll eyes are currently looking- ... >.> lol

    36. Really nice tips! Yeah I would never think on a baby fork, that was interesting xD
And the best one...batteries, yes, that is one of my problems too ^^U

    37. Thanks for the great tips! I should try it out too. On a side note... your boy is handsome!

    38. Having also so perfectly adapted wig .... crying with happiness. :whee:

    39. Batteries, so true! Sometimes we think of all the complicated, little details and forget the big important ones. Also, I may just be going crazy, but it looked like your doll was cropped into the video. Like, I knew he was there, but when he wasn't being moved, it was really weird. Really good tips though, and your bit about the eyes XD I was dying.

    40. Thank you very much for this

    41. I love this video this helped so much you and your doll are just adorable :)

    42. Thanks so much! I'm literally taking notes here! Next time I'll be 100% prepared. Thank you!
(by the way: Mickey is gorgeous and I LOVE his hair)
