Guess who's back to post more epically procrastinated projects?? Yup, me. Intro - Vici is a mature tiny female that will be between 18-20cm tall. Sculpted in Super Sculpey Firm. Name- "Vici" is from the famous Latin phrase "Veni, Vidi, Vici" meaning "I came, I saw, I Conquered". I AM going to conquer this darn challenge of finishing and casting a BJD, I SWEAR IT!!! This project in particular has been on and off for... forever?? Anyway, onto the progress pictures! On the left, a little figure I had started in cheap oil clay. But since I had no idea how I could refine this smushy junk into something castable, I decided to try and replicate it in SSF (Super Sculpey Firm) Did not quite succeed with the copy on the right... but I didn't fail either. Beginning The head has a face! Legs are started, so are hands and feet. Pretty sure I ended up scrapping all of it except the torso, but you gotta start somewhere! Now with legs Started completely over on the legs, and the feet. This time, instead of trying to get nice perfect little segments, I started with an awkward giant lump of a 'mermaid tail' smushed into her hip sockets, and carved it down and down and down until I started to get something that looked like fairly symmetrical legs. Also I think I added a hair of height to the top of the hip joint, I liked the taller proportion better. Reworked Her face!! Completely scrapped the original, it was WAY too small with the proportions that were starting to come together. Face! I like her proportions. I think my love of the work of European artists and their very curvaceous dolls is very evident in my own 'style' Getting there A little further along, more forehead added because I thought she would need it for wearing wigs. You can kiiind of see where the shin on the cut leg is cracked from where I drilled out the string channel. I think I can fix that... probably. Vici Progress 4/27 I'm just really proud of her little face. It's what makes me want to keep this project alive, no matter how long I go between working on her. Also her boobs got smaller, and I'm still not decided on if they're going to stay that way, or if I'll add them back. Vici Progress 4/27
Almost forgot! I. HATE. SCULPTING. FEET. They're inelegant appendages and it's difficult to make them look pretty. I have managed to sculpt ONE of them. And it is going to be AWFUL to try and get the other one to match it. Symmetry is the bane of my existence. Foot Foot Foot Bonus: It's not SO obvious from the front, but Vici's got booty for daaaays. :3 Vici Progress 4/27 Vici Progress 4/27 Bonus Bonus: This is a hand I started for her, but it doesn't fit with the overall aesthetic vibe I'm getting. It's been set aside for a future undecided as yet project, because darn it!! I worked on it for AGES and it's to pretty to not go on SOMETHING!! Hand! Hand!
Ooooh yes, definitely save that hand for later! I really love the torso pieces, they flow together really, really well!
That one hand is very pretty! Also, I think her foot is very cute, and the shapes of her body go together very nicely. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much guys! I'm finally trying to get arms fleshed out for her, so hopefully I'll have another update soon!
Such a handsome hand! How are you doing working so small? I’m finding it hard to make it thick enough to support itself and remain in scale :P
She looks so darn pretty already! I love the shape you went with, she looks like a lady in a famous painting!
A tiny update. I'm finally happy with this profile for the leg. I decided on a simple ball joint, after thinking for a long time of making a mobility joint. This suits her better. Her torso will stay pretty much like this, with only minor refinements. I am considering practicing casting with the chest piece, so I can play with other bust sizes. This would be a "medium" option, I'd like to offer a "small" and "glamour" as well. Or at least SEE them on her. Vici 4-20 update by Miss_Pygmalion (Galatea Crafting), on Flickr
Thank you so much! I've been thinking her neck details are a little sharp, I might soften them just a little.
