Update: So after talking with the usps at noon and being told he was most likely lost. He had been delivered to my house an hour before. he got to the sorting plant, to the local office and out for delivery with out ever being scanned. The box was beat up pretty bad but.... the damage to the doll was very minimal, a few scrapes in msc on the face and a nick in the pelvis but I can fix both very easily. Thank you to everyone! 10/31- I have spoken with the Usps and they are now stating that the package may be infact "lost". I have pm'ed the seller to see if she will start a claim with canada post. But i'm not sure what to do, as the seller got the package out in excellent time. But at the moment my 600$ doll is "lost" to the uspo. below is the time line: On Monday 10/13 I bought an El from a lovely Canadian seller, she was fast with responses and a price was settled on, and she promptly put it in to the post the next day to Chicago via Expedited USA. Being that I was very excited I got a little antsy when after five days it didn't update, but I know from personal experience and from reading here that, things like that can happen. Sure enough an update appeared on 10/20 stating that it had left Canada on 10/18 and arrived in the us on 10/20. This was on the Canadian Postal site. On 10/23 I contacted the seller to find out what method it went out, since it had not updated. She replied back quickly that she had been told it could take up to 2 weeks to arrive. When on 10/25 I had not had an update on the USPO saying it had arrived in the country or been checked in to customs. I got nervous and called the postal service to see what was going on. I was told that there was an incorrect address on the packaging and so it had to be forwarded to me. I should see it Monday or Tuesday at the latest. On 10/27 (Monday) no delivery I called the local depot to see if it had arrived since all my mail had been shoved in to one box. Which usually indicates a temp mail man. They told me no but that it should arrive on Tuesday. On 10/28 (Tuesday) No delivery, I called in to find out what the status was. They told me that since the address was wrong, that it could now take up to one week or more, because it had to be sent to the central office down town and be hand stamped with a correct address. That because of this the guaranteed date of delivery had been voided and that there was no way of tracking it. I msged the seller to see if she knew what address was on the package since it was redirected from Zip 60619 (I live in 60618). She verified that the address she used was my confirmed (and correct address) was in fact on the package. And she offered to start a claim for me and took down my information. (She has been wonderful) So as of 10/29 (Wed) I called in to find out how to track this package and what to expect as far as time, since I now knew the address was correct. This time I was told the address may not have been incorrect, its possible they just routed it to the wrong post office and that it should have been dispatched to the correct post office directly. I was told it should not have taken them very long to route it, but that the agents who gave me supposed dates were "wrong". They are now in essence telling me that they don't know where it is, why it went to the wrong zip code, how long it will take to be corrected. However it’s "not their fault". They suggest I call my depot every day and ask if it’s arrived. This depot already wants to strangle me over reporting them, when we stopped getting packages for 5 weeks with no notification. Needless to say I’m frustrated. I'm not sure where I can go now, the seller is not at fault, and I’m just not sure what I can do next other than wait. The last update avail per both USPS and Canada post is. Update 10/30: no new information. postal system is unable to give me any information.Per the suggestion of usps, checked with postal canada, no tracer has been placed yet. But they suggest that one be placed now. pm seller to ask her to place claim. 10/31: 18 days since item was shipped... 7 since package was "forwarded". Usps states at this point in time, the only inquiry must come for Postal Canada. They state they are unable to do any kind of internal search for the package because I am not the shipper, or with postal canada. Package has not been rescanned at the sorting depot or my office.
O____o; Please tell me it was insured for the full amount >__< But at this point, you've taken all the right steps :\ She'll file the claim and all you can do at the moment is wait. Good luck! ~Ari
I am presuming it was, The deal we struck was for the shipping included, since it was canada post expedited I'm hoping it was insured.
I sent an Unoa head to be painted to California using Canada expedited post. It took 5 weeks to get there! After a month I put an official request for a trace with Post Canada, this has to be done for them to even consider looking for it. Lo and behold after this "official request" they found it and it got to it's final destination. Canada Post is notoriously slow, so your package may turn up yet, it's probably sitting on a shelf somewhere. The important step is for the sender to lodge the formal request for a trace, it's easy to do a simple phone call does it. When the sender asks for a trace from Post Canada they are going to want your phone number so they can call you and verify that you in fact didn't get it. I wouldn't entirely trust the tracking messages on the usps website, as often the package has been in the recipient's hands for a while before they update the status. Good luck to you.
OOOH thank you that puts me more at ease. This perticular post office is known for being screwed up. One time after 9 phone calls from 4 people in my house they claimed they had delivered every package to us (even tho a minimum of 8 were missing) They delivered our neighbors HEART medication to us. We decided to take it to him directly. Turns out he was almost out. When we went to complain in person, I pitched a fit in the lobby after being told not a single package was here. 15 minutes they came back. (remember after 9 phone calls) with 9 packages, and two days later my roomate collected another 5.
did you pay by paypal? If so you are protected by them and may claim as item not recieved? the retailer/seller then assumes responsability for claiming for compensation. x
Label/Receipt Number: CX21 9317 436C A Status: Delivered Your item was delivered at 11:17 AM on October 31, 2008 in CHICAGO, IL 60618. Hopefully it was delivered to you~
Oh geez,I see that it was delivered. But I have a feeling it was taken to the wrong house! Goodluck!!
I had a package that was shipped to Canada by accident (I live in USA)... my seller filed a report for me because that places an alert on the package... if a package come up 'lost' they can check that database to see if any new info is posted. The last tracking I had was that Canada had forwarded the package to the USA, and it took several weeks for the package to reach me, even though it was supposedly in the US. Don't know what the protocol is for re-routing packages, but it seems like it sits around in a postal warehouse until someone checks it off. My package finally arrived with no warning whatsoever... the USPS tracking page never had updated info. So...there is a chance that your package is sitting somewhere waiting to be moved to a different postal facility. If the address was correct, it should make it to you eventually. But yes, the USPS will not look for a package by request of the recipient... they want the sender to file all the inquiries. If your post office makes it a habit of misplacing packages, you might try filing a complaint with your postmaster http://www.usps.com/postmasterfinder/ Good luck
UPdate: So... at 12 when i called the uspo they had no idea where he was and thought him lost.... but some how he was delivered to my house at 11am. no one scanned him untill he landed on my doorstep! the box was BEAT TO DEATH.. but some how he escaped with minimal damage. Good thing, he was only declared for 100$
I'm glad everything worked out for you! Silly UPS people! Don't they know they can give unsuspecting people heart attacks if they don't keep up with their packages?!
I'm so happy things worked out!! Since he had some damage could you make an insurance claim for repairs?
UPDATE, 3-5: A case is opened with Canada Post to claim the insurance payment and they will be investigating USPS. I've been talking to my federal agent and he said he'll forward my info and inquiries to the investigating party. So I guess this is a TINY update, but it means this PO has TWO countries investigating them! Awesome. UPDATE, 2-25: SCORE! I filed with the Office of the Inspector General for the Post Office and I didn't really expect much of a response, but THEY CALLED ME TODAY!! I'll be emailing all the info I can to him and he's going to be calling consumer affairs today as well as the post office in question. I have a federal agent working my case, HUZZAH! I hope this will produce answers! Will keep this updated! UPDATE, 2-24: Went in to drop off another package and asked for a form to report a lost/stolen package. THEY REFUSED TO GIVE ME ONE. This is all becoming very strange. Haven't given up yet, and won't. Waiting for the seller to start filing for insurance claims. UPDATE, 2-23: Called again, no info. Lodged a complaint and sent an email complaint to the Inspector General of the USPS. Also will be writing an editorial to the newspaper and will be calling the post office several times a week. Will keep this updated. UPDATE, 2-22: 41 days since Baha was shipped... 14 days since it arrived in the tiny town I live in (!!! Yes. 2 weeks.) and NOTHING. No updates on the tracking site, no delivery....nothing yet. I will be calling them or dropping in either tomorrow or on Wednesday. I WANT ANSWERS!!! My doll was sent by Canada Post to America then the USPS has been handling it since. It arrived in Oak Grove on the 8th and the post office is about half a mile from my house, so I figured it'd take a day or two tops to get to me. Well, when day 3 came and the tracking still said "Item has arrived in destination country's post office" with my zip code beside it, I got a bit worried that it hadn't been delivered, so I called the post office. They asked a few questions, checked tracking numbers and I could hear them talking in the background saying "Tracking says it got here, but it's not in the back room..." and such things. Well, they said a substitute carrier was on the other day and she "asked about a package on (my road name)" and they told me to talk to the office. No package was delivered to the office, so I called back and they said they would call the carrier and they'd call me the next day. Naturally, they didn't call me the next day, so I called back and they had spoken to the post master AND the carrier. No signs of my doll, nor does she recall the package. What should I do, people? >< I've never had this happen. I'm thinking I'll just check back with them every day for a few weeks and see if it mysteriously shows up. I'm also going to watch out on auction sites and around to see if a white Baha shows up for sale, cheap, out of the blue. What would you do in this situation? It's thoroughly depressing. And honestly, the money doesn't even matter. I want the doll....there is never another like him. We doll owners all know one dolls isn't equal to another one, even if it's the exact same sculpt. Every single doll is unique and special...they can't be replaced.
is the package insured? i would see what the process is for getting a refund... there might be a time limit, and you wouldn't want to wait to long.... hopefully it will turn up. if it's able to be tracked... then something had to have been scanned at some point. good luck with this.
Yeah, he was insured and he had tracking, he was tracked all the way to the post office in my town but then vanished from there. It's really breaking my heart. I want him badly...I looked at my other Baha and got sad a bit because I had my heart set on receiving this little guy. I still hold some hope though.
hmm, I'm pretty sure you can't even file for a lost package until its been lost for 14-30 days I'm not really sure what else to say. I hope it shows up for you Dear!
Probably to identify that doll if its posted on ebay to help in its recovery, in the event that it was stolen. Some members stalk sites like ebay religiously and can be a huge help in identifying fake/stolen items. Since only the person who posted knows what the doll looks like, we can only rely on descriptions. I would suggest that an image of the doll be posted to show its unique identifiable features. Its a dreadful thought, but there are people who steal postboxes because they think they can pawn whatever is inside. ...On that note, I further suggest checking out local pawn shops. I remember one person had their package stolen but found the doll under an overpass. Is it possible that a neighbor received your package by mistake?
I would assume in case a doll were to be put up for sale and had the exact same eyes/clothes/accessories. It'd be a way to tell it was your doll. I'd wait it out a bit though. I had something similar happen to me once before. A doll I ordered was shipped to me and it ended up at my old address across town. The PO sorted it out after a ton of calls from me. Pester them enough, and it'll put some pep in their step.
I was asking because a baha wa on eBay the end of last month. I wanted to make sure it wasn't yours. And yes, it's also to help keel an eye out for it on the auction sites *hug* I'm not trying to be mean, just trying to help.
I never realized how truly sad it was to have a doll lost somewhere out in the cold, mean world >< I'll definitely keep pestering them, every day. According to tracking, it got to this town's post office and this is a very small town...I hope he is here somewhere. I'll definitely keep this thread updated.
I recommend waiting a little bit penguincheese. My El showed he had been delivered to my apartment a couple of days before the carrier actually dropped him off. Calling the post office provided the same things you heard; the package was supposed to be there but actually wasn't, no one had seen it, etc. It seems this sort of thing happens when someone scans the package prematurely at the regional mail depot. If he doesn't show up soon then I'd recommend looking into filing a claim for the value like others had suggested. I hope he shows up soon though!!!
I'd also suggest making notes of who you spoke to, their name if possible, and the time so you have evidence should you need any! Hopefully it won't come to that. As someone else suggested check with direct neighbours in case someone took your parcel in for you if you weren't there when the person tried to deliver. I know I take in parcels for my neighbours if they are still at work then take them round to their house as soon as I see them come home. It's still early days and may well turn up safe and sound. *fingers crossed for you*
Your story sounds similar to mine, though I live so far from you. My package didn't arrive home on the day it should, but the tracking said it already arrived at the post office. The officers also said that there wasn't my package at their office. So after one day of many calls and seriousness, it's sorted out that my package had gone to another district by mistake, and at last it came to the right place on the next day. So I hope your situation would be like that, and hope you get him back so soon.^_^
You have to wait 21 days before you can file an insurance claim with USPS. And it has to be the sender (not the receiver) who files the claim. I assume the same is true of Canada Post.
Start the insurance claim with the post office... I bet after that, the package will mysteriously turn up! Oh and let us know how it turns out...
I had something happen like this with my Beyla. Tracking said she was at the Post Office, I called and asked them to hold her there, the guy checked and said she was there, but said to call before I came in. I did, and he reiterated that she was there. I showed up and the clerk at the desk said he couldn't find her and that the guy I'd talked to was a supervisor and at lunch and he didn't know where she was. So I asked him to please look around, since I'd called TWICE and had it confirmed TWICE that she was there and lo and behold, she turned up.
Well, today's update. Went in and talked to them, they said they spoke to the carrier twice and she still had no recollection of it. I want to talk to the carrier myself, so I'll be going in tomorrow to talk to them and I'm waiting for the seller to PM me with a description of the box the doll came in. *sigh* I just want my Baha...
Best of luck to you - I hope your Baha shows up. I'm sure it's very upsetting. Hopefully it's just misplaced and will turn up soon.
Condolences. I hope your doll shows up soon. I would totally RAGE at the PO if this happened to me. =/
How sad your Baha is missing, did you ask your neighbours ?? I had a parcel delivered at a neighbour who lived 5 houses away from me on the other side of the street ! and the mailperson did not even leave notice I just tried a lot of houses on my street.
Also check outside - e.g. small sheds and such. Sometimes they just put the parcel somewhere and then forgets all about it... And as others said - check your neighbours - maybe even ask them if they would please check their sheds etc. I can't help wonder - these days - with all the scanning and such - it's unbelievable that a package should just dissapear like that. It might be in the back of a postcar - or somewhere on the post office. If not the last possibility - someone stole it (I don't believe the postman would do that, though, since he/she would lose their job if they did that). Did the postman leave the car unattended and/or unlocked? Or - did they make a mistake and returned the package? That happens sometimes too. Try checking the number again and see if someone has scanned it in after you looked last time... I hope you'll find the doll.
Great news! Go ahead and STICK IT TO THE MAN! They deserve it. Clearly your local post office was no help so you had to go to the BOSS. I hope you get all your money back! Though I doubt you'll be getting your doll, sadly.
Hope the IG can find something out for you. It's REALLY frustrating when an item goes missing, even more so when it's suposed to be tracked an insured. I had an item come from HongKong, made it all the way to NY but after it left there it vanished! I never got my item... an even though it was insured I never got all my money back! It was a $+30 wig and I was only ever refunded $12. And it took months for me to even get that back from the seller, needless to say i was VERY disapointed. So, rant aside, I wish you the best of luck in uniting with your Baha! T_T
I bough a doll from a user here on DoA at the end of Feb. He was insured and had tracking, but I accidentally mistyped the number of my address, and so he was marked as "Undeliverable as addressed" on Feb. 22nd, according to the tracking info. After that, the buyer and I assumed he would be sent back to her, since she had put a return address on him and all, but he's still not back. We've gone through calling the customer service numbers online and talking to our local post offices, and they've just give us a run around. First they told me he can't be tracked past the failed delivery, since he's insured. Then they said to wait and see if he comes back to her. Then they said to file a claim and they'd call her back the next week. She filed one but they never called. She called them back and they said a claim had never been filed, so she filed another one. THEN they don't call her back AGAIN. She calls them, they say that since it's insured, a normal claim can't be filed and she has to wait a few more days for the 21 day mark to file an insurance claim. We've finally hit the 21 day mark, so she filed an insurance claim for the cost of the doll. But my question is, will he just be lost in limbo forever? is there /any/ chance that they'll start looking extra hard for him since the claim has been filed? I mean, money back is nice, but I would much rather they find him and ship him back, but I don't even know if that's possible anymore. Has anyone else ever had similar issues with USPS? What happens in this sort of situation? Maybe I just should have driven to pick him up, since he only went from IL to MI [A fecking 5 hour drive. That's it -_-]
I had a buyer give me an incorrect address once and I simply called usps and had them correct the address while it was in transit (after we got the undeliverable notice). I have no idea why they wouldn't be allowing you to do this... I hope you find him!
Usually they are pretty good about searching for things that are insured. O.o Interesting. The only thing I can really suggest is for you two to hound them for answered until they move. I mean like calling them every other day for updates, etc. Basically let them know that you guys aren't just going to let go. I'm still waiting on a Secret Santa item that was sent with tracking, but it got turned around and it's on it's way back to the SS, but it's been a couple months now. With something as big as a doll, I would be calling them as often as I said. Are you calling your own post office or the USPS headquarters/customer service number? I've had nice service with the headquarters number.
Aww, I'm sorry. I'd be so upset. I had this happen with a handmade quilt my aunt sent me--they said they couldn't find it, then I went down to my local post office, and it was sitting there on the counter. I had to show a zillion forms of ID to get it from them, but I got it. You might want to check your town's sorting center (many towns have them, and the regular post office can tell you where). I've found that the people at mine are generally nicer and more with-it than the customer service people. Sometimes pakages end up in limbo there, waiting to be claimed. You'll need the tracking number and a picture ID. It's worth a try. Good luck! I hope you get your dolly!
USPS lost my doll and I never got it back. -_- It's been in limbo for like...3 months now, no changes and no finding of it. I'm waiting for the insurance claim to come through but I fear my doll is gone. However, there is a chance they could find it! If nothing else, file with the Hotline at www.uspsoig.gov. I did that and I have a federal agent working on my case now. Here's to hoping both our dolls show up one day!
I'll have to try calling them again; though last time, the lady was really rude about the whole "It can't be tracked past the undeliverable status and the sender should file a claim". @PenguinCheese Thanks! I'll have to check that out. It's totally lame that something that expensive is lost, and only from Illinois to Michigan. @___@
Wow. I'm so sorry to hear about the missing/lost dolls. I will keep that in mind for the future. Might be worth to pay extra for FedEx or UPS or something, to know for sure the doll will show up. I hope you guys find your dolls.
