they work fine....clean and spray with sealer first(msc or testors etc...) put on the area, wet it with a sponge....and voila!! spray again with another coat of sealer to keep it in place...i've had one on my lishe for about a year and it looks fine....they come off cleanly too....but i always would suggest coating with sealer first!
They're safe from what I've seen, some dolls even come with them. Soom Gena, the Smokey Day set, for example. She came with temporary tattoos. But like crazyfish said, always use sealer! That goes for just about any superficial modification.
Yay, ta much for the feedback! What is the name of the Testors sealer? I live in the boonies and our local Toyworld/hobbyshop has just shut down so I will need to do an internet search. Thanks again!
I actually have a Smoky Day Gena. I've used the tats she came with, and some I bought at dollar stores and such. I coated her before and after, and the ones that I ended up removing later came off just fine. Takes less elbow grease than removing a face-up, I'd imagine.
I was thinking about getting my Roxanne a tattoo for a while but i wasn't sure.... but its prefectly fine right? Magic Marker to the rescue if anything happens!
The deal is this: I have a sheet left from a pack of Avery/Zweckform's Create-and-Print tattoo. And since I need a very specific tattoo on Sevvie and I am NOT sure I can draw anything that looks vaguely like it (actually.. I'm sure I *can'T) - and I have the motif in a printable version... So... Does anyone know if they're safe for dolls? They're removable (on skin) with water and ordinary soap. Skin friendly.. but.. resin friendly as well? Has anyone ever tried this? (here's a link (in German, sorry to those who can't read that) to the product)
They are perfectly safe, but just a little hard to take off. They tend to get smudgey fast, especially when the dolls wear dark clothing. My friend and I both tried in on our dolls, and it worked the same as on humas skin. Be sure to add enoug water, and applying them on curvy parts is a little tricky. I'm not sure how they come off, I'll try if nail polish remover works.
Actually my roomate has temporary tribal tattoos on her BJD, they seem to like to scratch off easy actually, so be careful if your doll has metal parts on the clothing, they tend to scratch off the tattoo!
My dolls with tattoos have them actually painted on so they wont come off. Never tried anything temp.
Yes. I used a temporary tattoo on my dolls hand, and it worked amazingly! I cleaned the hand, then used the same method you would use on real skin. Once it was put on and dry, I coated it with testors and went on to paint the nails. I'm assuming it would take a bit to come off, but I haven't tried yet.
Awesome! Thanks! And yea I know they're slightly sticky when they're on,so I planned to give them a layer of MSC on top to seal it. Oooh YES! Finally I can get him Marked...
i think i also seen soom and another bjd maker (cant remeber which one) supplying transfer tattoos as clowve say that they are ok!
Heh I hope so because I've already put it on him... It had been a year or so since I last used these, and I couldn't quite remember how they worked. They're not like water decals, it's more like a very thin and elastic sticker. Anyway.. it ought to work, it sits nicely on his arm now. And on top of a layer of MSC as well. I haven't put any MSC on top just yet because it's raining >_< but I plan to... That should make it stick
I suggest you to spray the tattoo with a sealer after you've applied it. This will minimise the possibility of scratching off
this is a rub-off people tattoo on libertine. I've changed her lots of times and it looks just this fresh. I'm actually quite surprised it hasn't started rubbing off yet. I didn't spray it to seal it; I waited until it was really really dry then I gently brushed on a matte windsor & newton sealer that I can get off with acetone if I want to. I don't know if it stained her at all - I mean - gosh, I hope not...
My Yder Kira has them (and large ones too) I applied them *over* a few layers of msc after he was blushed, then coated the tats with a few more layers of msc and a coat or two of gloss for extra protection. But I wasn't looking for temporary with him ^^ He's almost a year old now, and the tats are still fine, unsmudged and undamaged.
I'm glad I searched and found this thread. I am doing just this today with Gav. He's getting a mani/pedi and some tribals on his back and perhaps his hips. Thanks for all the tips!
Ok. So When I get the body for my doll I want to do Ville's tattoos. Some of them are very intricate portraits and i have no idea how to do this on such a small scale. If anyone could do this I might commission. Otherwise if i printed it out on fake tattoo paper would that work? And for the other tattoos like his sleeve what do you recommend?
0_0 Good luck. I am somewhat doubtful that someone would be able to recreate the portrait tattoos with any amout of .. sameness? I think they would look very good though, in sort of a styleized fashion (you would still recognize the tat, but it would be sort of simplified). Also, on the sleeve, Im sure you could find someone to do something very similar and recognizeable, if not exact. It is also a large amount of work.. Im worried what you might end of paying someone to comission this u_u;; As Ive already said, though -- good luck.
You are a mind reader, I was just about to make a thread about tattoo's. I am so lost when it comes to these. I'm really interested in knowing efficient ways to make good looking tattoos. I didn't even know they had tattoo paper, where do you get it?
you can buy it anywhere that sells printing supplies (like office max) its for temporary tattoos and also tattoo parlors use it for placement so that people can see how they like the tattoo before getting it
Yeah me too. I think I might just try a few of them and if I fail then send them in! I would love advise! Anyone?
I'll repeat: Girlytattoos. She is an actual tattoo artist and she does amazing painted tattoos on dolls. I've seen her work in person and heard her speak on how she sometimes does things with a brush of one single hair, just to get it right... The temp tat paper will rub off with time, handling, and doll clothes. Better to have Girlytattoos do a proper job on your boy, if you really want him as close to Mr. Valo as possible.
ADDITIONAL SEALER! That's what I need! I've tried three of these tattoos on my Hound, and the only problem I run into is how quickly they rub off or chip in places! (I've been coating them with MSC, but it's apparently not strong enough.) Other than that, they work GREAT!
Less expensive than commission, but neccessary to redo periodically, is the temporary tattoo paper Idea. Apparently a good sealant makes them last a lot longer, but it's probably the most efficient way to get an EXACT duplicate of the tattoos (since you can just print them yourself.)
Suzy of Switchblade Aesthetics does wonderful work. She's a tattoo artist too. She did all the tattoos on my Billie Joe Minimee. She's a pleasure to deal with too. I'm not sure how busy she is right now. If you're interested shoot her off a PM.
My doll have Ville valo tattoos ^^ the same he have on his left arm and this one he have more intimate^^ i make them wich special acryel color, and the arm with diffrent acrylics!!
yeah i have some...this one from his arm: the other intime tattoo,i haven't make some good photos at the moment, only old photos!
thanks^^ i love his tattoos too >.< but it took all in all 5-6 hours but i love it on him ^^ i love to make tattoos on my an other dolls from friends!
Sorry, my reply won't help at all, but it's very important anyway. And my reply is, YAY FOR VILLE. That is all.
you can also use pencil to help get a more realistic feel on the more portrait looking peices. I use them on my neuveau style tatts and use msc under and over it. so far the tats are holding with almost no wearing. this is one I did of iris art on a cp leg http://shapestrong.com/doll/tattoo/orlytat4.jpg
Not harmful at all that I know of. My old MNF had temporary tattoos and I had had plans to do it to my saint when I had him. Just be sure to seal at least afterwards or it will start to get grimy and peel in a few days.
I've actually heard many people SUGGEST using temporary tattoos on dolls so I would assume that they work well Though I'm a little wary of the kind of glossy "seal" you get when you put the tattoo on. I'd be wary of yellowing but it should be fine.
Didn't Soom used to sell "Smokey Day" Gena which had temporary rose tattoos that came with her? I believe you do have to seal it afterwards though.
Well, I know Dollmore sells tattoos which I would assume are temporary, so I don't see the danger. I've put temp tats on my doll, and the only probably I had was removing it because I only used soap and water because I didn't know what safe for resin back then.
I had temps on my mnf Shiwoo and they came off alright. He still has some goo/marks on his hands because I'm too lazy to scrub it all off. The one on his back came off fine though. Also: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=201729
hmm...makes me think a little. must give it a try on SeNii :3 although he's not going to have anything showy...just something simple on his stomach, near his hips...hmmm...
::smacks head:: I figured I should have searched for this topic instead! Thanks for the information though!
I was wondering though..should you coat the part getting the tattoo before you put it on too just in case it might stain or something? I also wonder if those rhinestone cellphone decal things would be safe for dolls too? But how to get it off....
I actually have temporary tattoos on my bjd and they are safe. They have not affected the resin at all and the best thing is that they can be peeled off at any time. Depending on the type of tattoo, they can easily come off and if not you can use a magic eraser to gently rub the resin where the tattoo is located and that way it should definitely come off. In my experience you don't need to coat the area getting the tattoo and rhinestone cellphone decals are easy to take off as they can be peeled off or taken off using same method to remove tattoos that i mentioned earlier in my post.
Sims, that looks awesome. Anyway, I think everyone has pretty much suggested anything I could add, but yay Ville. Good luck, and I'd love to see pics when it gets done.
Soooo...I've heard of people using manufactured temporary tattoos on dolls before, and I was wonderig if it would indeed be totally safe. How precisely would one do it? I assume by sealing the resin, then applying like one would on flesh, and sealing over it multiple times? Also, I have some cute temporary glitter tattoos I was considering using. Would the addition of the glitter harm a doll? I think not, but I'm paranoid... Thank you!
