Hey everyone. Basically I have a bunch of old dolls, a fair few with gigantic heads and I am really struggling to find a dealer for 9-10 wigs in stock in the USA anymore. Places I look are: Denver Dolls (doesn't carry this size), Fabric and Friends, Etsy (I can't find much in the USA except in that small 8inch size for off topic SMD. If you can think of a particular shop let me know), uhhh, there's factory direct craft (almost tapped out of those old Monique now), Facets (once again just selling limited old Monique stock), Doll Peddler (I don't shop there anymore), and of course Volks USA... Anyway, do you know any USA based dealers selling wigs? And especially do you know any stocking 9-10inch wigs? Man, wig shopping used to be my favorite part of this hobby but it has been such a bummer for a while now. It has been horrible trying to find anything exciting and local (in a reasonable $30 and under price range)..
I love ZazouCustomDolls' (on Etsy) wigs. It looks like they've got some 9-10 wigs. I've purchased a few things that weren't necessarily in stock and the turn around was pretty quick. They also offer custom wigs, if you see a style or color that you like but not in the correct size. I haven't done that yet but I plan to!
Hey, I had an idea but unfortunately the message in the Etsy shop is: *I'm sorry, but I'm currently in the hospital. I'll reopen my shop as soon as I'm released.* This is TheDollWigStore in South Carolina. Sorry - also for the nice owner They have sizes 8-9 - you used to be able to buy Monique wigs there. I hope the hospital stay is only short
You might try shopping outside of the BJD community and look to places that sell supplies for porcelain dollmakers and play dolls etc. Sorry, I'm not in the US, so can't suggest specific places, but I find those sorts of suppliers useful over here in the UK (and sometimes less expensive than the same stuff marketed specifically for BJDs) Teddy
Dollspart is another USA supplier geared toward the traditional doll collector/crafter trade not necessarilly BJDs. Dollspart Supply - Doll parts, supplies, shoes, high heels and accessories
Why didn't I think of this on Sunday? AmadizBeauty emigrated from Russia to Washington, D.C., to you in the USA. Exclusive handmade dream wigs. Okay, they're not cheap, but if you love BJD, they're just what you need ;-) Kira fulfills your dreams. Unfortunately, Amadiz closed the Etsy shop on Monday to process existing orders. Only when there's time for new commissions will things continue. And unfortunately, creating the dreams doesn't happen that quickly. But the wigs are so worth it!
Thanks everyone for your responses. I actually didn't know or forgot about amadiz moving here @JL_The_Lion thanks for mentioning that. I feel a bit bad that none of these suggestions help me at the moment/I already knew of these other places and have looked at non bjd doll supply too I am a wig addict afterall and apparently not as bad at finding things on the modern internet as I thought. But definitely thanks everyone again. Maybe these resources will help someone else in the future
{shrug} There's no need to feel bad. As you said - it might help others who are in need of the information. Teddy
Size 9 -10 is actually American girl doll sized wigs. You could try searching for that it might help you find something that suits your taste. Their are quite a few sellers that make wigs for American girl sized dolls based in the U.S. I have used these wigs on Pullip Dolls as they have that same head size. I have also bought larger sized 9 -10 wigs from The Anime Store Stuff. They are U.S. based. The Anime Store Stuff uses the Purple Plum wig company that also makes cosplay wigs. Some of the wigs are normal styled hair and some are more anime styled.
The size 10 wigs I have gotten for my American Girl dolls always fit. It also fits the Pullip dolls. I guess size 10 is more the median for them. The 9-10 might be a little tight. But a size 10 wig would still fit a 9-10 BJD.
Bjds that wear size 9-10 are difficult to begin with in my opinion because if I have a group of them who are all too big for run of the mill 8-9, there is still variety where some makers of bjd specific wigs in 9-10 (leekeworld for example) make that size large enough that only my biggest big heads properly fit them. This brings in fixes like adding friction or size to the headcap through hot glue sueding/soft velcro/ wig caps of course... But it also means forcing a size much bigger than the already big enough or too big 9-10 is not workable. Its like, when you have dolls on the very cusp of 9 inch measurements sometimes they could force into an 8-9 (destroying it for anyone else in the future) but sometimes not. Then if they have a head probably over 9.5 it's different. I really appreciate efforts to mention which other dolls may or may not wear the same size. Sometimes it boils down to the shape of the cranium they are all hiding under their hair I suppose and Joe the wigs truly fit in three dimensions not only in circumference.
Im so leary to buy anything online from the US now with all the new tariffs. I ve gotten hit with some pretty nasty customs charges. I ',m looking at making my own wigs now . Which is fun to think about but so much work . lol
Yeah, not really on topic but I understand that feeling @Krunner35 As for myself, maybe I'm an outlier these days but I really only like doll wigs on my dolls which are made like human wigs: elastic fit, wefted hair sewn to mesh, and a tidy, attractive top/parting. I've tried some wig making for fun and I've had the occasional handmade hard cap type wig and I personally can't stand any of them. The occasional faux fur wig is my only exception. It feels very traditional in this hobby, and I think they can be really fun looking. Anyway to each their own!
DollofaKind has 9" wigs, but not 9-10". It's the size they sell for Wellie Wisher dolls, so maybe wigs made for them might work? I've bought from this shop before, they are kind of slow to ship sometimes, but the quality is really nice. Sometimes, they have sales, too, which could open up more options in your price range, and they seem to update fairly often. I'm subscribed to their newsletter and get frequent enough sales notices, without being bombarded with emails.
