Shipping UPS vs seller

May 6, 2024

    1. I had bought a doll from a dealer and I put it on a long layaway so it ended up going to them instead of coming straight from the company.

About April 16 they informed me they had it then about the 24th a label was made. It still says UPS hasn't picked it up.

I emailed the dealer, saying I haven't seen an update. I kinda left an out for them, saying maybe it just got shoved to the back since human error happens. They said it's been picked up for sure and they'll do an investigation on their side as a dealer. I called UPS to see what they say and they said it's highly unlikely a driver just forgot to scan a whole package. Which seems kinda wild seeing as its an SD so even in a whole pallet I feel it would be something they could double check since it would be big enough to see? Maybe I'm wrong? lemme know if I am.

What further steps would y'all take and how far apart is it appropriate to check with a dealer? Yeah I gotta look out for my money but there's a difference between aggressive encouragement and just getting in my own way. I'm just not very savvy to know what's appropriate, haha.

Thanks for any insight you can give me.

    2. I've had parcels go unscanned in a step in transportation before but they'll usually get scanned in the next point and the tracking will update. Has it been actually picked up, it'll probably update once it's in the next stop (which shouldn't take long).

It's a bit more plausible that it actually hasn't been picked up and the dealer has mixed something up in communication with you. I've had the period between label creation and the parcel being pick-up ready be around two weeks with a certain dealer so if it's the same one for you it's a game of patience unfortunately :sweat I'd inquire weekly if nothing is moving, the labels expire at some point so they'll need to make sure everything is up to date in the pickup point when the UPS truck comes.

Wishing you luck with your shipment, hope it gets moving soon!

    3. Thanks for the advice! I appreciate it. I'll definitely be poking weekly:3

    4. jsyk, even if you paid in full with the dealer the doll would go to them first (so company -> dealer ->you) anyway, as that's what the dealer is for - they're a middle man more or less! Anyway yeah, I'd just do the weekly poke and make sure you have your UPS updates enabled (when you go to the UPS website with the tracking number you'll see the options for all that on the tracking number page). It is actually likely that a UPS worker might have skipped a package or two in a giant pallet, no matter how big or small, since....y'know... we're all humans and sometimes we feel lazy or are convinced we did a thing, so I'm not saying UPS is lying but that's definitely them covering their tracks lol
(As an aside......There's two USPS post offices in south FL that I dread my packages going through since they have never, in ~5 years, scanned a single package that originates there. :| They just leave it up to the next regional hub to do it.)
The main dealer I buy from uses UPS, and they're always good with their labels and pickups, but i've had one or two instances where I suddenly got an update once it hit a nearby UPS hub and was delivered next day, and sometimes there's an actual origin/pickup scan.
