Update!!! 11/10/08 -Introducing a very unique BJD :) (horse/human and more!)

Dec 18, 2006

    1. UPDATE 11/10/2008:

      Hi

      New photo :)

      Thanks,
      ~Sarah~

Here's the most resent horse photo-
      [IMG]

I don't have any really resent ones of the fox/wolf, but here are some of the in progress photos to give an idea of what it looks like-
      [IMG]

      UPDATE 10/12/2008:
Sorry for the delay in working on her ; ; I've been super busy this summer. I plan to start working on her again very soon so watch for updates!

She still needs her hands cast and one of here thighs needs to be drilled so I used the clay original in these pics so I could string her for photos.

Not sure on pricing yet, but keep watching and I will let you know soon.

You can see more pics at http://themushroompeddler.deviantart.com/

      UPDATE 06/25/2007:
Well, I decided it would be a good idea to create a blog for the updates.
I will still post here, but things like mold photos and casting process pics will go here:

      http://www.mushroompeddler.blogspot.com/

Oh, for those who don't know, I am creating a small doll company with my good friend
Jessica Douglas (http://mistressofspam.deviantart.com/) called The Mushroom Peddler.
We are both stay-at-home mothers each with two small children and we will be offering my dolls,
wings, clothing, and other uniques accessories for my dolls and for other dolls in our store :)
The url for the store once it is ready will be www.TheMushroomPeddler.com

We are going kinda slow right now since I am sculpting/casting dolls, building the web store, making wings,
and last but not least, keeping my kids happy and well fed lol But we'll get there as soon as we can ;)

      UPDATE 06/13/2007:
Ok guys… Here’s another pic. As you can see I have now cast several parts (though she only has one lower leg until I cast them lol I couldn't wait to post) I am excited to string her together. but it will have to wait until all the parts are cast since I don't want to risk the clay chipping.
Things are going well and I plan to do some more casting on Saturday, so check back soon!
Also, here are some pics of the cast fox/cat hand:

      UPDATE 04/10/2007:
Well, I have been sick over the last few weeks and am still recovering, but I have still been able to do a few things. Here’s a couple of pics of the fox/claw hands and feet that I finally finished

      UPDATE 03/29/2007:

      Ok… major update here.

Here’s an updated body photo, though it has still improved since this photo, so we are still not completely up to date *sigh* The arms have been completely resculpted and the thighs joints are now being reworked as well, but this will give you guys something to show you that I am not idle lol
      [IMG]

This second photo is a teaser for something new I am introducing… the Stallion! Not sure if this will be his final head yet though. In the first pic below, it shows him more put together, however the second pic has some modifications to his muscle tone.
      http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c252/MisticUnicorn/animals/male_body.jpg

      http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c252/MisticUnicorn/animals/malechest.jpg

      I hope you enjoy!

      UPDATE 03/18/2007:
Here are some pics of the first resin casts!

I am so excited! This is so much fun to see them advancing to completion! I can't wait until I can get the whole dolls cast and costumed…

Which brings me to a question: How many here would be interested in just the head versus the whole doll? (there are sample pics of the whole body on page 7)
      http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c252/MisticUnicorn/animals/sarahbseiter_castings.jpg

Also introducing another head I have been working on. She is supposed to look somewhat animal-ish since she will be using the animal legs as well... thus the longish snout lol
      http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c252/MisticUnicorn/animals/sarahbseiter_newhead.jpg

      UPDATE 03/16/2007:
Pics of fox hands/claws! On page 7!

      UPDATE 03/12/2007:
New pics of the body! On page 7!

      UPDATE 02/09/2007:
Well, I am still working on them and am almost ready to cast the first doll thanks to some anonymous donators who are helping with the cost of supplies. If anyone else would like to donate to this cause, my PayPal email is [email protected]

I have to say that the dolls are turning out amazing! I hope to have them ready to sell before summer rolls around, so keep checking back.

I have decided to hold the photos for a while though until I am a little further along in the process, maybe even with a fully costumed doll to show off. So… look forward to some awesome updates within the next month or two *grins*

      UPDATE 12/27/2006:

Well, I decided to take a little break last night from body/leg/arm sculpting and created these two heads. They still need a lot of work, but I like how they look so far. So, here’s a sneak peak at ratty and fox heads. The ratty one is more MSD sized, so I will have to make a smaller body for it (thought it was fitting that it be a smaller doll).

      http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c252/MisticUnicorn/animals/sarahbseiter_rattyandfoxi.jpg
More ratty pics since it is further along than the fox (If you look closely, you will see the tips of her ratty teeth lol So cute!)-

      Original Post-
Ok, I have been lurking in the artist doll area for a long time. Today I finally decided to sculpt something out of Super Sculpey to put up :dance I have been meaning to make this doll for quite a while now and I plan to make a body for her as well, but so far she is just a head on a Dollfie Dream 2 body. She turned out even better than I thought she would *beams*

I have not sanded her at all yet, but I couldn’t wait to put her up to see what you all think of her. Haven’t thought of a name yet. She needs her ears still too lol As soon as I sand her and do a faceup I will update.

      Thanks,
      ~Sarah B. Seiter~

    2. Oh wow Sarah!!! I love her!

    3. Wow! great job!

    4. Wow, that is really cool!!

    5. wowsers.. I can think of a list of at least a dozen people who would buy her, she's just beautiful :>

      Seek peace

      Carol

    6. omfg i want that head! promise me you will be casting it in resin!

also, if you want a challenge: I want a Tauren female from World of Warcraft BJD... i have a few concept sketches, but i lack the skill in sculpting...

gah that head is so lovely! i want i want!

    7. Oh good gods, that is just too cool for words! I bow to your amazing sculpting skillz - she's a beauty, and as said, very unique :fangirl:

    8. Wow amazing. Such a good sculpting job!

    9. Wow, that's incredible!

    10. Those are the plans so far... if all goes well :) In fact I am working on sculpting her body today and should have some updated photos by tomorrow *beams*

I know almost nothing about resin casting other than things I have read, so it may be a while before I feel like the quality is good enough to offer for sale :sweat Will have to do some experimenting.

As far as the Tauren… I thought about that, but the neck is so thick and the body so bulky that it would be difficult to make one as a BJD. I was leaning toward doing a Nightelf (since my main char is a Nightelf druid :) ), but I decided to do this equine one first.

    11. regarding casting, you can get your stuff sent away to a professional to cast >.< might be more esxpensive, but i personally think its totally worth it to get that lovely head!

pft NE sucks lolol im tauren druid :P the way i imagined a tauren bjd, it would not be able to stand on its own-but that doesnt bother me! and i can see from how well you made that horse anthro head, you could do a cow better than anyone ive seen >.< please think about it as a second doll!

PS- when you make her body, you HAVE to give her hooves for feet! or at least make an optional set for yours truly :) im a fangirl already!

    12. Oh, how excellent!! I can't wait to see her with her ears :D

      -- A <3

    13. Amazing! I can't wait what your going to do for here body! Keep us updated ^^

    14. So unique. You crafted that in a day? o.o

Wow...Alot of people are on WoW.

    15. Oh wow that is SOOOO cool! I can't wait to see it finished/painted!

    16. Oh Gawd! can't show my daughter that...She's horse mad!

    17. Yours and mine both, Mich. I can just see it now: "Oh WOW!! A resin My Little Pony with a doll body!!"

Because you KNOW that's what they'd think. And then the nagging would never end. "Can I PLEASE get one of those, mom??"

:) She's ... amazing! can't wait to see the finished product!

    18. Of course she’ll have hooves :dance LOL Already drew up some idea drawings for the legs and feet. I am both excited and anxious about how they will turn out.

I sculpted the two part torso today, so now I have the head, hands, and torso at least sculpted (though they still are likely to need adjustments). I may post new pics tonight or tomorrow morning if all goes well :)

    19. Yeah :sweat It took about 3-4 hours of sculpting time (an estimate since my two little ones, 5yr and 2yr, kept needing my attention :) ) and about 1+ hours of boiling in the microwave lol I made the base head and then boiled it, then added the details and boiled it again. Just found out about this method, and I am really liking how much better things work. *dances and sings* :dance No more burning, no more discoloring, no more brittleness, no more major stinkiness! lol Didn't think I would want to use Sculpey anymore, but this opens up some really neat possibilities.

    20. very expressive face! SHe looks horsey yet delicate...not wards I usually put together-:)

    21. Wow, she's beautiful! Wonderfully done.

    22. Just updated with new photos of the body sculpt that I created today :)

    23. If you put her in a red wig, I know what her name would be. ;)

Pray allow me to join the chorus of "WOW!"

      Ann in CT

    24. oooh lovely body! i love the junk in the trunk :) did i mention im your number one fangirl?

    25. Yep :) I thought I'd give her a bigger behind to go along with the horse theme... since she'll have a tail there  Hopefully it will help balance out her longish face as well

    26. that's just too gorgious! congradulations on such an AMAZING doll!

    27. very unique and very beautiful! *still in shock upon hearing that u did all THOSE in a day......*

    28. Actually :) I did the head yesterday, and the torso today. I have never made a ball jointed doll before so I am experimenting and very pleased with the results so far. I am a freelance artist by trade though, so I am sure that helps

    29. She is wonderful Sarah .. can't wait to see her all finished.

    30. Oh my gosh, that is awesome : D What a neat idea for head *loves horses*

    31. Aye cota! :D she's gorgeous! I wish I could sculpt like that! You really have a great talent! :love

    32. All I could see is MY LITTLE PONY!
Must.. hide... from.... pony obsessed friend! O_O
      Gorgeous job, by the way!

    33. Wow!! I LoVe her!! *Sits and joins the fans*

    34. when i saw the title i imaged horse body and human torso. . .like those mythical creatures. . .

but that is really cool. :)

    35. ...all in two days eh....
you make me cry...*looks over at her attempt at a boy and sighs*

    36. She's amazing! Keep up the great work! I can't wait to see her finished. :whee:

    37. As a former Furcadia junkie, I salute you. She's lovely in addition to being quite unique.
Are you giving her digitigrade legs? I've been trying to work out a digitigrade biped for awhile (I desire ferret-girl) but have had no real inspiration.

    38. WOW.
      That is AMAZING.

    39. She is beautiful. I would buy one.

    40. Actually I am working on digigrade legs for her right now. I haven't figured out how to make her stand yet, but I am getting close :) *whispers* I would post photos, but they are supposed to be a surprise when I unveil the finished leg design lol Hopefully they will be done soon. I ran out of clay though, so I will have to go get some more before I can work on them again.

I really need to find a good source for some casting materials and resin so I can start experimenting. The Sculpey is too heavy to know how the legs will really work.

    41. ...digi..what legs? :( my the by, even if you dont make a tauren bjd, i would love you forever to make a rat/mouse anthro head :) <---lubs the ratties

    42. Digigrade legs are like the hind legs on horses, cats, and such. If you look the word up on Google you will see what I mean :) Tauren have digigrade legs for instance.

*clears throat* You are getting ahead of me now... and spoiling surprises  I am planning on eventually doing several different animal types and a mousy/ratty type is one of them lol but one at a time please :)

    43. That is just stunning... I love Super Sculpey as a medium. You're very talented and have a keen eye for detail, I can't wait to see the finished BJD!

She reminds me of an artist that does female humanoid animals... If I find the link I'll post it up because her artwork is amazing and it mesmerizes me.

Goes off to hunt down that link :aninja:

EDIT: It's quite an old site and please be aware that there is artistic nudity on the site, but the images are amazing. there is a warning page at the start before you enter about the nudity. Here it is. The Art of Caliban

    44. She has a really amazing style :) Thanks for sharing  *wanders off to browse through the artwork*

    45. >.< sorry for jumping ahead of you... but please consider doing the ratty head next! ::beg:: im your number one fangirl remember? :D

    46. I'd love a wolfy head myself, if it was possible to get one MSD sized ^^ A male wolfy head!

    47. Hmm... maybe I will make a smaller MSD version if all goes well with the large one  Once I have the body figured out I will be able to be more versatile with the heads, but I would have to sculpt a whole new body to make a small one, so it may be awhile :)

    48. Ye gads....she's absolutely beautiful. @_@

If you ever DO decide to cast her in resin and offer them for sale...put me on your list! And digigrade legs...yosh! I'm getting one of the Misa-Minky heads, and I'm trying to figure out how to manage a non-human humanoid body for her, as...sculpting isn't my strong point. I can DESIGN the sculpts, and very functional ones, but the finished products are never pretty because I'm not a sculptor.

I've been considering carving out of wood. I'm better at subtraction than addition, creation-wise. But if you offered these bodies for sale...well, that would solve ALL my problems. **hint hint**

    49. Added photos of some other heads I am working on :)

    50. RATTI HEAD!!! MUCH love for the ratti head :>

Please put me at the top of the list when you cast one.. I want an anthro ratti doll :>

      Seek peace

      Carol

    51. I am just hoping I can figure out the casting in resin part :sweat I don't have a lot of funds for experimenting, so it will probably be a while :( I do plan to cast them when I am able to figure it out and get enough $ to fund them though, so keep watching :)

    52. Well, I couldn't resist and started the ratty head  See updates and added photos in the main post.

    53. Oh my god *_* So cute! I like the foxy head. Ratty head is cute even if it's not my thing. *pats ratty head*

    54. Unique indeed! I love these, they're so full of character! I really like the rat head even though I'm not too fond of rats :P

    55. @___@ good lord my dear you're prolific in amazingness!
If you cast the fox head i would totally buy it from you. I collect foxes...and a BJD fox would be like...beyond AMAZING.

    56. wow that looks quite unique! i love the horse head x3 can't wait to see it finished.

    57. :o Wow. I am stunned. Those are beautiful! Do you plan on casting them in resin? ...and possibly selling some (fox = :aheartbea)? *hint, hint :)

    58. OMFG ::dies:: im so in love i think im gonna cry...! that is SUCH a total rat face... omg omg ogm i cant express how in love i am...

EDIT: Did i mention im your number one fangirl...?

    59. Oh my gosh... More Animal heads! They are amazing! I love the rat teeth! I can imagine these beauties airbrushed they will look awesome! Not that they don't look awesome already!

    60. OMG what a great work!
Are you going to put a horn in her head? It would look more mystical.
Is it super sculpey hard when get dried? I worked sculpey III but wasn't hard when it dried.
For making figures I recommend magic sculp. Seems to be the best to make figures. But there are others like milliput, that are great too. When they are dry (dries with nothing, just spending time it dries) you can sand, cut and drill them, this is why are better than sculpey or fimo.

Come on! You are doing a great job! ;)
