I am tentatively thinking about buying a blank 1/4 qing lang sculpt head from doll family h to put on a volks sdm body. I am new to the hobby and I'm not sure if the two are compatible. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this too
When making hybrids the important things to look at and compare are neck circumference, head circumference, shoulder width (and, although somewhat less important to some, resin match). Sometimes, even if everything matches, the proportions might still be a little off however - but you can always ask in the photo reference part of DoA of someone who has both parts could snap you a pic! That being said, DF-H neck circumference is 7cm and Volks SDM/MSD should be 7.5cm so the head won't quite fit unless you do some modding. Since DF-H heads are made for a much slimmer body and also have a bit of a smaller head circumference (18cm vs SDM 19-20cm), it is quite probable that the proportions will look somewhat strange. If you're looking for a less mature body for Qing Lang, you might get better results with something slightly slimmer than Volks as their bodies tend to be a bit on the chonkier side. Hopefully someone with both can swing by and show a comparison though! The best comparison I can offer you is an SDCute head (more or less Qing Lang proportions aside from the neck hole) on an MSD body (SDM is a tad slimmer but not super noticeably so). It is the leftmost one on this pic.
I agree with @cobaltconduct : Volks's MSD/SDM bodies are an oldschool chunkier childlike body that might look strange with smaller heads made for a more slim mini/mature mini type body. I ran into this issue recently myself—I have a Lemoon 40cm head (about 6–7 wig size) that Lemoon previewed on a Volks SDM body, but when I tried the hybrid for myself, the head looked too small on the body and too small for the hand size compared to the head size for my tastes. Head circumference, neck circumference, shoulder width, neck length, and hand size are usually the key factors for me when hybriding.
