Unpopular/Unknown BJD Doll Company

Feb 7, 2014

    1. I'm sorry if there is a similar thread like this. If so, please feel free to delete this, thank you :)

Although I'm fairly new in owning a BJD, I have already known quite a lot popular doll company. Now I just wanted to see a doll company who is only know by handful people, not much having that company doll and so on. I don't care if it made in China, only sell in Taobao, limited, or made by one person only. As long as that doll is quite rare that no much people even know that company even exist (if possible lol)
The reason is I wanted to support the company if their doll is really beautiful and under appreciated, also maybe I can find a sculpt that I really love more than the popular company. So thank you very much if you do know one and share to me :)

    2. I'm not sure about any company that's nearly a secret, but I think BlueBlood Doll is so underrated! They've been around for a few years, but still aren't really popular. I own all 4 BBD sculpts, one of their Gen-X sculpts and two Jie dolls from them, and I love them all! Jie doll is sold through BBD, and also doesn't get enough love, IMO.

Another that was practically unheard of a year ago, but is gaining slightly more popularity is Magical Angel. They're affordable, pose well, have nice resin, great service and lots of options, as well as doing custom colors and sculpts.

    3. I know there aren't a lot of DollPamm dolls around, and the work there is, to my understanding, all done by a single person. He hasn't been open for English orders for too terribly long, and has only done a couple of ordering periods, so it's hard to say if the low numbers are due to a lack of knowledge or a lack of availability, but I think his sculpts are some of the more unique ones I've seen, and was constantly watching for his ordering period to start again so I could put in an order for one of his girls.

    4. I have one that turned out to be a bit like that... My Patiya, from Fect-Doll. So far I haven't come across anyone else here who has a doll from that company.

    5. Thank you everyone for recommending names that I haven't heard yet. If anyone know others, please tell me more.
For now, I'm going to check all the sites :)

    6. Many companies are one-man studios. Even the popular ones only have a handful of employees. :). Just saying.

My own company is pretty unknown, but I don't like to toot my own horn. Have you looked at Shinydoll?. This one-man studio has been around since forever, but I don't see many of his sculpts out there.

Personally, I love RSDoll (formerly Raurencio).

For a good website that covers all BJD companies out there, I'd like to refer you to BJD Collectasy. They are a news website, where all new releases are reported immediately. Not just the big companies, but the small too.

    7. I don't know if they count as 'unknown', but I do know they are a one-person studio: The Mushroom Peddler

I just love the huge variety of sculpts, and how different they are to most company's dolls. I really regret missing out on their tiny bee sculpt, because it's just gorgeous!

    8. KAPPA
      Sweet gale
they have one but very cute head Plastic moon
if talk about unpopular. i can say that it's hard to believe, but HZdoll are really unpopular, in spite of the fact that Heise is quite well known person among anime/digital art\BL lovers.

    9. Pluto Dolls is my favourite small company. I have half of their sculpts now and I've been happy with every purchase, their customer service is great and the dolls are beautiful.

    10. Yeah, Plastic Moon needs more love!

    11. I've got the Bee! It came with my Mushroom Peddler Blue Willow, which I bought from Sarah at the BJDC (Austin TX) 2012. :D

For very unknown single doll-artists, there's Joanne Callander Dolls.
      Her Page: http://www.callanderdolls.com/site_size/Joanne_Callander_Dolls.html
I bought one of her 2012 Centaur Girls and the CCBJD Con, where she had a table... but it doesn't look as if she's updated anything since then... which is too bad, as her work is lovely.

Pretty rare, to me is RamCube / Rapa's Factory. There are only a few of their dolls represented on DoA.

--one of them is mine! -- My Black Leopard Kyle, full-set --

    12. I'm not sure how popular they are but Ringdoll and Impldoll are great companies. They've had customer service problems but are otherwise fantastic.

    13. I have dolls from two fairly unknown makers.

The first is OziN5. They have made a boy head Emon, and two girl heads, Bellis and Cindy. They seem to only have Cindy listed for sale at the moment. I'm not sure how limited they are/were. My Bellis doesn't have a face-up yet, but DoA member AzureFantoccini posted her girl Emon.

The other is White Luster. They have made one head called Sylva, released in a tan and pale skin color with magnetic horns. They were a limited release and are sold out, I bought mine second-hand.

Another "unknown" maker is Ianthedolls, from Hungary. Everything I know is on that site, which is next to nothing. I've been admiring his sculpt Maja for some time.

    14. Wow, thank you everyone for the nice recommendation. Haven't found my dream sculpt yet but all of these companies is nice.
Hope everybody who read this thread will check them out, all of them need more love :)

    15. Haliengen seems quite unknow to me, love some of their sculpts, never seen any around except at LDoll.

    16. I have also discovered them during Ldoll! And I just ordered Nana. I super eager to receive her! :fangirl:

    17. There are quite a few newer, unknown companies, especially now that there are more artists outside of Asia who are jumping in on the hobby. Some of my favorites have already been mentioned, but I have to give a shout out to Misterminou Doll who just released their first MSD doll. I had the pleasure of one of them staying with me for a while(to make an outfit)and they are just wonderful! They pose very well and the sculpt is really well done. Another one I really like is Once Upon a Doll, they just started but their dolls look so ethereal and beautiful <3

    18. I had never heard of Rickydoll until I found a Helios head on the marketplace and fell madly in love. I have only ever seen a couple of Ricky's dolls around as they are quite rare. Ricky is a one person manufacturer and only does small limited runs of each doll.
This is my Ricky boy Julian:

I also agree with xatshe that HZ dolls are pretty uncommon too and they are gorgeous too:)

    19. http://saintbloom.com/ are really underappreciated, and their dolls are gorgeous too.

There's tonnes of tiny sole-artist companies out there :) I'll second the love for PlasticMoon (Teru is gorgeous, and the upcoming Mr Kitty is a delight) and Freakstyle as well.

    20. There aren't a lot of followers for Dream High Studio, but their work is phenomenal. Those who do have their dolls love them and simply rave about them. I'm not sure why they aren't more popular.

    21. I'm really glad someone mentioned Dollpamm! I'm pining hard after one, it's one of the few female sculpts I really adore.

    22. i think dollsbe is pretty unknown. There's also the case of popular doll companies with underrated sculpts. Crobidoll is popular but I've yet to see anyone with any of their girl sculpts. Spiritdoll is a popular company for their bodies but I rarely see owner pics of their full dolls. Finding a tan skin spiritdoll felt almost impossible until I finally came across two owner pics months after I had already bought one myself.

    23. Just to add my two cents and a photo--Dollpamm! :) This is Momo, and she is just too cute!

    24. I have one! People always ask me what he is :)

    25. I have this lovely boy, he is a Plasticmoon Teru v1.5 on a DC 70cm body. The v1.0 before him had more open eyes, but I loved his eye shape in this version so much! I got him during a Winter event in 2012, after they sold out she never made anymore, and I not sure if she ever will T_T he is such a unique beautiful sculpt!

    26. Lume Doll is an American one woman company. They aren't well known, but her dolls are beautiful.

    27. I love Lumedolls' look.... some day when I grow up I would love to have a Saiph. :aheartbea

The one-woman studio DD-Anne (Fairygarden) makes very quirky Tinies-- and many of them come in the most far-out spectacular themed fullsets, which Anne makes all by herself, right down to the shoes and furniture and hats and things like carousel crowns and whipped-cream bunny ears. Her vision is absolutely remarkable, and it's neat to follow her blog and watch everything being created step-by-step.

    28. Pluto Dolls is my favourite lesser-known company. I have an Ezekiel head, a Vergil head and one full doll, a LE tan Millicent. Their packaging is beautiful, I love the Victorian-era theme they have going with their characters and photography, and the default faceups are lovely. The customer service is really good too, when my Millicent was delivered just a few days later than the estimated period they added a free wig and bloomers to my order.

    29. No one has mentioned Kinoko Juice?

    30. Solitary agent thank you for mentioning Pluto dolls. I didn't know them. Archibald is adorable!

Does anybody have an idea if/when dollits will offer dolls? As far as I know it's a new one-man -company (JBaek, who worked for Iplehouse). His first male is very promising. Pity I don't speak Korean, there's no English site up yet as far as I know.

    31. I have a BBD and a Jei doll and I always get asked who made them. I also have 2 Lume dolls and they are just wonderful.

A new artist is Argonautica Dolls (http://argodoll.com/) from Russia. S/he has only 3 sculpts out, but I am pining kinda hard core for a 30cm Prias in the deep blue resin.

    32. Oh my gosh, thank you so much for thid thread! PlutoDolls are perfect :aheartbea

    33. MiracleDoll, also sold by jeeryama on ebay.
I only see some of their male dolls around, but I love the company's style...

    34. Thanks for mentioning OziN5 idrisfynn... let me spam a little with some Bellis ^^

    35. a few that i know of are fect-doll, gemofdoll, kids-sky, ipopo/popo?? (i see it around as both), and a couple of others i can't remember off the top of my head. not sure how uncommon they are, but i've only ever seen them around on taobao.

    36. This is a great thread. Thank you for this!

    37. I second Homucchi!

I also love Lumedoll's sculpts, too. Saiph is gorgeous, but I also like Phaet. It's run by Eva whom is apparently taking orders until the 10th of this month. Since I can't order another doll right now, I emailed asking how often she was doing order periods, as it's the first one after a long break. She said there isn't a definite plan because she wants to ease back into things (which I'm she's taking it slowly), but hope's to have one or two more this year!

    38. Yay for more variety, I love looking up companies I didn't know. Great idea! Sorry I can't think of anything not mentioned yet but BIG thanks to everyone who shared so far.

    39. I have an Alexander elf by Nenedoll, I don't think too many people have him. I also love Napidoll, though they're probably a bit more well known.

    40. I love the Lotus sculpt's sad eyes from Napi, but I've always missed out on their ordering periods >_<

    41. I think Ramcube is very less known only recently that people started to give them attention
They have the best molds and faceups ^^
I own two dolls from them

    42. plasticmoon/ foolbot is an independent artist but she's amazing and so are her sculpts! You should definitely check her out!

    43. Pluto doll is adorable!! and I think since a lot of people mentions some same unpopular doll company does it means it will get popular? haha

    44. Island Doll is fairly unknown and their dolls are gorgeous. I have an MSD Amy myself.

    45. I just found this company as well and fell deeply in lust for the Kios alien girl. Hope that this artist (Svetlana) continues to make dolls as she seems very talented. They come in interesting colors too.

    46. I'd pure love one of the 30cm Prias but it appear that she'll only make an order for them when there's enough people who sign up for it. My wallet is happy about that.

    47. I was surprised it took me so long to find Little Monica given how perfect their dolls are

    48. Dream High Studios, definitely. They really don't get enough love - their dolls are all so unique, and INCREDIBLY mobile and expressive.

Another even lesser-known group: Bardo Research. They have only one on-topic sculpt out so far (their standard, non-OOAK Sadhana, with interchangeable eyes as you can see here), but she's so pretty, and so unique!

    49. The 2-person studio Oceanmoon! I never see anyone on here talk about their beautiful dolls. Not to mention they're the nicest people, too. The downside to them is that thier dolls can only be bought through Etsy.

    50. There's Leledoll. It is so unknown I had to ask the mods if they can be considered on-topic (the answer was yes), but they're really cute!

    51. Enredadiza, I'm thinking about doing the same with Bardo Research. They're listed on the wiki, but I haven't found any threads on them anywhere. No waiting rooms, no company threads, no galleries, no nothing! It could just be that it's so obscure, but I dunno.

    52. WhitePhoenixRyoko, It's not a bad idea! Maybe more people will get to know them then?

    53. I bought one from "OnlyKids". I think not many people know this company
      here is her

    54. I love Oceanmoon! I agree, they are super, super nice and so passionate about their dolls! I owned an Eun-Ryoung for a while and she was totally charming. I still have their Shou-Ryu, though they've discontinued him and never made a body for him. He's so handsome, though! And I believe they've got a new SD-size guy out now. :)

      Here's my boy:

    55. Yes, they discontinued Shou-Ryu but have plans for a sculpt that stems from Shou-Ryu, called simply Ryu.
Also, a 62cm body for their 1/3 heads is in the works, and they're actually at the stage of looking for people interested in putting money down for pre-orders! It's an exciting time~

As for this topic, and companies that are lesser known, while waiting for my Oceanmoon doll to arrive, and while looking for other people to share a smidgen of the excitement with, I noticed there's no "waiting room" or "discussion threads" for most dolls of lesser-known / uncommon companies. Would it be a bad idea to have such threads? I love threads like this where we can talk about those who miss out on a lot of love that they deserve. Awesome place to discover new styles and companies to support, but is a thread of this breadth too diverse to thrive in a section other than General?

    56. Anna Queen? I don't think there's a thread for her dolls on this forum unless I missed something. I only learned of her because someone suggested one of her heads for a character I was hunting for. oTL but it was sold out and I dunno anyone who has it.

      • x 1
    57. Woah, those are her sculpts? How do you even get one of her dolls? I can't find a website for her or anything, I'm flickr-impaired. OTL

    58. Well, I'd say Asleep Eidolon is severely underappreciated. Their sculpts are so darn pretty and their quality is impressive. I've had my Tasha fall on several different occasions but she never once cracked or chipped. They have my admiration. As for a rare company, I'm not sure if it's fair but Mythdolls are super rare. Particularly because the company is extinct now. We have one of their girls but the sculpt isn't that great of quality. The posing is practically impossible, the hands are pretty homely and the neck is too thick, making the head loll from side to side. The face is nice, at least.

    59. I didn't know about Anna Queen til your mention, but looked her up and.. wow.. soo~ pretty! Look at Aya.. and Ivory!?!
Her photos and dolls have relatively recent dates on them, so perhaps it's that she's just getting started and doesn't have the capacity for worldwide distribution yet? Seems she's already got a booth for Dollism 2015 so hopefully it's a matter of still being in the startup stages ^^
      Here's her web store.
The listing (during an ordering period, which just ended - I discovered a day too late!! AGH!) says they can take overseas orders, and says please write to the email annaqueen1106 at gmail if you want to buy.
Definitely someone to keep an eye on :D

    60. This is the best thread ever. I'll be googling for days. ^ already said dream high studio. Which has the cutest little micro bjd's
