So this girl is done. Honestly she has been for a while, I just never posted about her here. Back when I was actively searching for a beat up Unoss to fix up, I was contacted by the seller of this lovely lady. Originally an Aika (she still had her original horns and the demon eye), she was purchased for the previous owner to restore and she just ended up stashed somewhere, forgotten. In the end she came to me, the seller was very fair with her price and disclosed all of the damage and half finished mods to this girl. One of the photos the seller sent me to show me the state of this girl. Once she arrived I noticed a few things right away. Firstly that at some point she had been fully spray painted, second that her eyebrow and eyelash removal looked AWFULLY clean compared to what the modifications to her body looked like. One foot had gotten the big toe separated, something I've never seen the need for but in the interest of leveling her out, this will be addressed. You can more easily see the areas that still have residual paint on them on her arms. Her body had little spots of this paint all over and whatever it was, it was some seriously good stuff! It took me a lot of work to remove fully. Her upper arms were badly gouged. But no rotary tool sanding marks so it's like someone took a chisel or a blade to her? Whew, and the torso was just...rough. They tried to flatten her chest, but then also bring her waist in (like the Unoss aren't curvy enough?), sanded her hips. Like that is ROUGH. Her initial chest mod went poorly and whomever attempted it tried to level her back out with epoxy, at least twice. There were even gouges in her joint sockets. But again, as if from a blade.
So for the first order of business I decided to set about on the torso. Her mysterious lady parts were just crudely epoxied over. Which came off suspiciously easily and revealed residual blushing beneath. Which tells me she wasn't even properly cleaned before being modded. I could already tell that the person who had tried to mod her had absolutely bitten off more than they could chew but wow, a completely unprepped mod area. I guess lucky me because that meant it came off super clean and easy. So I moved on up to the torso. Now I had noticed what looked like a little hole in her botched chest. I figured they had just hit an air bubble, fairly common when heavily modifying old dolls. So I peeked up her leg... Oh...oh no. That is a...tumor I guess of putty. Seeing that I figured there was no help for it, I was going to have to open her up. So when you're patching a hole like that...you don't just MASH putty into the hole. That's how you end up with a heckin chonker inside of your doll like this. So after some really rough sanding to prep her surface to really grip the fresh putty I started to rebuild her chest with what I had on hand. Which was really only enough to just get her started, I ended up having to pick up fresh milliput to get her really done. But I started building, first just laying down enough putty to get her back to a solid surface and just a rough indication of forms. Built up a little more into what will be roughly the final shape. A good way to tell if your rebuilt chest is semi even or way off is to give it a good counter check. I don't mind if they're a little off, but we don't want wildly different sizes here. And finally chicken timer nipples! No but really, with more sanding to go I'd rather make them way too prominent so I don't just sand them clean off!
I promise, she doesn't stay this cold forever. lol She also had some pitting on her butt that looked like a really old acetone reaction. I filled in the worst of those too. Remember her gouged out upper arms? Novus is the absolute BEST product I've found for really finishing mods and resurfacing the resin. You can even see a bit inside of her hip that I filled. This poor lady had gouges all over, she has seen THINGS in her time. lol Giving her the moleskin treatment. Older dolls like this fine lady tend to not always hold poses super well without something to add a little friction. Something nice and soft like thin suede or moleskin is a great cushion for this.
And now for her final steps! So before I got her color matched I had decided I wanted to do a big moth tattoo on her chest. I mashed up luna and death's head moths to mock this up before I got down to it. I lost some time here because I forgot I had tossed my old airbrushing supplies due to either being empty or drying out. Unfortunate but true so I had to order all new colors for her...and this was at peak Covid delays. So that was a good two weeks. However that match is just...*chef's kiss* Worth it! Penciling in her wildly large tattoo. Figured I should also give her some blushing. Heck since she's had this much work done, why not more? First pass with colors. It doesn't look like much now, in fact it looks muddy. This is one of those trust the process things. lol Because see once all the layers are on it looks a LOT better. And now she spends her days seated on a giant throne because treasured old ladies need fancy seats! I haven't given her a final faceup yet. She's had about three and they all end up looking too plain next to her rather bold chest tattoo! However this thread was really only about her restoration, which is complete!
Beautiful work! I’m so grateful when people take the time to post their progress like this. It’s so satisfying!
Holy crap. I have not been left speechless by the state of a doll in such a long time. What an amazing restoration, thank you so much for sharing!!
Thanks for the love on her everyone! Let this be a reminder that some of us enjoy finding mods gone wrong/broken/“worthless” dolls and restoring them!
Oof though, I can see why her last owner decided to sell her, fixing a doll in THAT bad condition would be really overwhelming for most people! But you stuck to it and she came out amazing!
Congratulations on the FANTASTIC job you're doing on her! I'm sure she's very happy to be well treated after so much roughness
O.o Who in their right mind made a literal hole in the chest of any doll let alone an Unoss? This girl clearly saw some rough times but you did an amazing job restoring her and I'm sure she's happy now
Well given the ages of these ladies, and how far we’ve come in terms of resin quality it would be easy to have happen. When these girls were cast, resin quite often had micro bubbles through even relatively solid pieces like a torso. So it’s entirely possible there was a slightly larger bubble where the hole opened up, or if a rotary tool was used it heated the resin enough to soften and tear a hole since you can see how thin her chest resin was after I picked the epoxy chunk out. She was just unlucky to have ended up in inexperienced hands with someone who had absolutely huge plans, and didn’t have the experience or patience to carry it off.
Yup, either the original modder went too far trying to flatten her, or the tool simply slipped and oops, a hole.
