I have searched high and low for a Unoss discussion thread and can not find one. There is a database, small, but posted, so maybe there is not enough interest for a discussion thread, but if you want to chat about her, bump this up! I sure could use some help with shoes...
I did a quick search and dug up these threads about shoes for Unoss: Shoes for Unoss? x__X;; Unoss - Clothes?
Why am I all over those threads...? Clothes, as I point out in the last of the threads Twiglink listed, is iffy but not impossible. Shoes however.... Most of the suggestions in the above threads are defunct. Minoru no longer sells larger shoes, Angelregion and Poshdolls no longer exist, and I certainly can't find any "Luts shoes for boys in girl styles". My husband's Mira has her trusty old Minoru shoes, a pair of cool SD13 boy boots by Dollheart, and handmade shoes. Not much help, I'm afraid.
She can for the most part wear SD13 boy shoes and possibly also shoes for the new larger girls out there, such as Mecha Angels and maybe EID Jessica.
Hmmm... I wish I had someone in my vicinity who had a female Mecha Angel or EID... I'll se if I can ask my good friend OldMagician, who owns a male MA, to try a pair of his boy's shoes on The Dragon's Mira.
I would love to know how many members currently/still have an Unoss. I'm seriously considering trying to attain an unmodded Unoss and have a lot of questions but there simply is no activity or outdated info in those threads, so I was really happy to see this new thread today!! What is a reasonable asking/buying price for an unmodded Unoss? The fact that it's harder to find clothes/shoes that fit her doesn't help in my decision...I have enough dolls that are still wearing their default outfits because of this problem While I would love to make clothes (even shoes) for her I would still like to see a DH outfit & know it will fit. Currently there's a dress from Anotherspace2 that I like, while the bust might be loose I'm wondering how the waist would fit... I look forward to seeing this thread grow
I seem to recall having paid USD $1,200 plus transatlantic shipping for my Mira (a used, unmodified Seina U-noss fullset, still with her original faceup) when I purchased her here on DoA three years ago. From the few unmodded Unosses that now and again pop up on Y!J, I'd say that is a bit less than what one would need to expect to pay nowadays for a fullset in reasonably good condition. As for clothes and shoes, well ... every now and again, something useful turns up on Y!J. Increasingly rarely though, or so it seems.
Quiet Queen, I think Mecha feet are even bigger than Unoss feet, or at least longer but maybe narrower. I'm working from memory here as I sold my Unoss several years ago, and it's been a while since I had a Mecha body too. Lula78, the waist on Unoss is quite narrow and her hips are about as wide as on an average SD13/60cm type boy. I think she would wear girl tops and boy bottoms, but now that there are other girls with wider hips, finding pants shouldn't be too hard. I wish Araki or Volks would do a re-release of Unoss... I think there were more floating around on the secondary market at a reasonable price a few years ago, but now that market has mostly dried up, and when they do come up they sell as "rare" not "used" or "junk".
On Y!J Unosses in good conditions go for ridiculously low prices nowadays... They don't come up very often, but I've seen a few that simply didn't sell! I second the wish that Araki/Volks would re-release the Unoss sculpt... They are gorgeous dolls, and having an Unoss with a bit more advanced mechanics would be lovely! Re: Mecha Angel shoes - it isn't the length I'm worried about, it's the width! Unosses have such very, very wide feet... As for clothing... Unfortunately I haven't got any good pictures, but have a look at Mira in this nifty outfit: That's a made for SD little top, severely pinned back under her hair to make it fit her slender ribcage, and the best ever made-for-Unoss jeans. You can get some idea of the pants Mira is wearing on this picture - she's the last in the row. What makes the pants to die for is the fact that they are curve hugging and fairly low waisted. I don't think you'd get that with SD13 boy pants.
Just got back in from out of town, with no internet access, so glad to see there are a couple of us Unoss owners out there up for a bit of a chat about our girls! I have been able to fit a few pairs of shoes on my Unoss girl, and have ordered several pair that are here, but that I have not had time to play with yet. I have some souldoll SD13 boy shoes that fit quite nicely, but find that dollheart sd13 boy shoes are too small. The toughest thing that I have come across is that the foot might fit, but the calf is too big to fit in most boots. She wears my Zero's skirts well, but Zero's leather vests and jackets are too big. I will be doing some outfits/separates on bjdclothes.com that will work perfectly for Unoss, but I have a very specific style, and I design because I want to, not to pay the mortgage, so if you don't dig my style, my goods may not appeal. I'm just playing, so I'll stick to what's fun for me, rather than branch out with more "marketable" designs. I bought my Unoss on the 2nd hand market, and am crazy about her. Part of the appeal to me is that her body is not typical, not perfectly proportioned and not skinny! I love her hips and thighs, and think she's terribly cute with a little bit of that chunky thigh showing between her skirt and stockings. Quiet Queen, where are those pant from? Your Mira is sa-weet!!!! Lula78, I just bought my Unoss on the 2nd hand market, and have to say, she is one of my faves. I'm so in love with my Zero it's hard for anyone to detract me from her, but the Unoss has a very different look, and she is just gorgeous. I'm so happy that I made the investment-she's really something special. I third the wish that Araki/Volks would re-release the Unoss sculpt-the no-joint torso is a struggle for me to pose (not a great poser anyway), and I find I don't feel comfortable carting her around as much as I'd like to. My dream come true would be the same body sculpt, but more poseable and able to work with my current darling's head.
It's wonderful to hear someone talk with such love about this quirky and wonderful doll...! Mira, however, isn't mine - she's very much my husband's girl! My husband is The Dragon. The jeans are from Y!J, we buy 90% of all stuff from there...
Wow! You have given me the most brill idea! I am buying my husband the next doll I want! Seriously, my husband makes the funniest observations about my dolls lately. It's taken him awhile, but he's starting to appreciate the art form. He loves my Unoss' chunky thighs. He pointed out recently how cute she looked with a little thigh showing! Yep, next doll I need, I'll buy for him! I hope he shares...
Ooooh, Unoss talk! I just love my Aika. I bought her in 2005 from a lady in Japan who had a dressmaking business. My girl came with a new Volks carry bag and a huge trunk of clothes including shoes (mostly babydoll type but pretty) and wigs. She has kimonos and hanboks galore. and a ton of lolita Victorian style clothes. I'll do a photo shoot of some of them one day. I did find one pair of high heel Dollheart shoes for her, but pretty, feminine shoes are hard to come by. her feet are so wide! and those big hands sometimes can't fit into armholes/sleeves. She's very pear-shaped. This photo shows her in an MHD dress which is loose at the top but flowing enough to fit her hips. If I weren't so busy I'd make her some jeans. I love my girl's un-sanded face with her original resin brows and lashes. although it's time for a makeover paint-wise. Here she is in one of the dresses she came with. It's from a scene in my first video - before I got into stop motion and animation. (see signature link for my Unoss in two movies.)
Yeah for Unoss discussion! I just bought a pair of Dale Rae flats made for Dollmore Model Dolls. They are an excellent fit without the bulk. That is, if you like this simple style. Dale Rae has a sale on their Model Doll shoes right now. As far as unoss price, I got my full set for $975.00. Paid $150 for a new costume and wig set. But, I did buy an unmodded head on YJ for about $400 including fees.
About shoes - I had a look at Mecha Angel shoes, which according to Soom's measurements ought to fit an Unoss width-wise - the trouble is that they are almost twice as long as her feet....
Alright, I love my Unoss girl, but the body is keeping me from playing with her much! The no joint torso is tough for me to work with. Anyone ever considered hybriding their Unoss with a more functional body? I'm def considering it now. I love her chunky thighs and hips, and even her big hands, but I think I might just pop her head on a more functional body and place her real body back in the box!
Unoss on a different body won't be this same doll. I'm having my girl repainted now and I really hope that I'll be finally happy with her. I once tried her head on SD10 and SD10 but it looks just bad
There are plenty of hybrids out there - search the Gallery and the Database thread and you'll find a few - but I do agree with marti... So much of what makes Unoss a unique doll is the body. You can put the head on another body, you might gain posability, but you'll lose much of the Unossness.
I think that it'll be a better idea to mod the body to make it more poseable. it's a thing to do without a problem. I was thinking about doing it myself, but in the end I've decided not. this doll is too special to mess with her
I am delighted to see this thread!!! I have many dolls, but Tabris, my Unoss is my favourite - here are photos of Tabris on my flickr When I get a chance, I'll post newer photos in the gallery. I still need to get around to making sandals for her.
Whoo, a thread about Unoss! I got my Unoss off Ebay last...March I think, for a frankly ridiculous price after all those unosses that went over my head to 1200 dollars on Yahoo!Japan, I paid $799 for her. She had her lashes and brows sanded, and above all she was incredibly yellow, which wasn't really visible from the sales pics, but did explain the price. I had asked the seller numerous times if she had yellowed, the answer was "I can't tell, but my mother's Unoss is much yellower" O.o Soon as my girl got home I removed her faceup and body blushing, which made her about two shades lighter, then I sanded her completely, making her another 3 shades lighter, just a bit yellower than normal. I love her dearly, even if she still doesn't have a faceup (I tried, I just couldn't get it done). Here's a few pics of her. I'm short on clothes for my crew as is, so I just slapped something on her that was kinda her mix-n-match style^^;; The skirt is part of an SD10 set I got from Yahoo, the stretch stockings are dollheart and the boots are dollheart SD13 boy size. She fits them, but just barely (and the pressure of her foot caused the sole to come loose=_=). And the top is actually an obi thing from a kimono-ish boy outfit, I wanted to show of her pretty belly and I didn't have anything else handy=_=.
I completely agree, and I love the shape of my Unoss, no other doll has those chunky thighs and wide hips. I even lover her large hands. I find, however, that I am hesitant to have her out as much as I would like, as she does not sit as well as I would like her to, and I do not want to leave her standing, so she spends more time in the cabinet than I would like! I'm sorely tempted to put her on a different body for awhile so that I can have her hanging around outside of the doll cabinet more often!
My girl stands beautifully and can stand with a bent knee! But, I don't want to leave her standing, in case she falls!
oh, doesn't sit well? I haven't had that issue. is she strung too tight? kicky legs? I never leave a doll standing on its own. always use a doll stand. does she flop when put on a stand? she needs some serious tweaking, not a change of body. but, I'm no stringing expert. lots here on DOA are, though.
^My Unoss wouldn't sit at all due to her stringing. Her elastic went from one foot up to the head and back down to the other foot, giving the wrong tension so she couldn't keep her torso up. I restrung her (Unoss have such small holes in their joints, I could barely get the stringing hook througO.o) so that she had two elastics, each starting at a foot and connected to the head/s-hook, just like all of my other dolls have. She can sit now, but her hip sockets are simply too shallow so her upper legs can't make the full 90 degree angle required for sitting upright and she leans back. Forcing her more upright results in her legs/knees spreading wide (ankles have a strong tendency to cross and lock) and she won't stay upright very well. Putting her knees back together for a little modesty results in propelling her onto her back^^;; But at least she sits at all, though I'm sure her stringing could be even better. Anyone else have problems with their girls' legs turning all over the place in their hip sockets?
All Unosses seem to love crossing their ankles - The Dragon's girl does it, and I've read many other owners mentioning it too... The Dragon's girls sits very nicely, and stands like a rock. I'll ask him to pop in and see if he has any theory on what can be your girl's problem, wally - he's a good man with stringing! I'd second recommend hot-glue sueding for increasing the Unoss posability - my Soah just had this procedure done to her, and is much improved. And ultimately, if you wonder if you'd like your Unoss on another body you should try it and see how you like it. But if I were you I'd invest in a doll stand!
I have to say that the only thing that bothers me about my Unoss is my inability to find shoes for her. But I will have to try some of those Dale Rae styles and see how I like them. Once the weather gets warmer, I think I will give her a new faceup too. I love the molded lashes and brows- it makes her look so retro!
molded lashes are amazing, but it's so hard to give a good looking make-up on them. I'm trying for several ears now...
the lower lashes are a problem. I'm thinking of how I'll paint my girl without sanding. maybe airbrush under and over the eye and smudge rather than paint lashes? I saw a gorgeous Unoss a couple years ago, but can't remember who painted her. if anyone sees pix of one unsanded girl painted nicely, please post a link. Ling is not going to be sweet. She's had enough of that. her hands can be a pain when putting on clothes, though. you need BIG armholes.
She stands beautifully, arms are perfect for holding a pose, and she can stand on one bent knee. I really can't stand doll stands! Reminds me too much of a porcelain doll...ack...
Alright, ya'll, I have commited sacrilege. My Unoss body is back in her box, safely tucked away, and my Unoss girl is residing on a shinydoll Thaasa body now. My mother will tell you, a doll's soul is in it's head, so she's still my girl, but now she's more poseable than I am! I love her on this body! I like my dolls to be out of the cabinet, hanging around my house or studio, sitting by my computer, or on the ottoman when I'm watching tv. One bjd makes the trip every day to the studio, so they need to be poseable, moveable, functional. The Unoss body had me totally freaked out, so my girl was spending most of her time in the cabinet, and never got to take a day trip. Here she is...don't be too hard on me, purists!
Well you said it first, sacrilege! Personally I do think the Thaasa body looks way too small and skinny for an Unoss head. I've had my Unoss "forever" and I adore the natural womanly grace of her original body. The human proportion of those big ol' hands and feet and the eerie realism of her eye-mech just sucked me in from the start. Mine is pliver-sueded now and stands and sits like a rock but I kinda miss her cuddly, floppy grace from her pre-suede days. Back then, She lounged better than she sat, but always seemed to fall into a graceful pose when I set her down.
Oh, I love the look of the Unoss body, no doubt! The hands have that unoa grace, and I think the large size of them are downright sexy, as are her hips and thighs. But the one piece torso just aint my cup-o-tea, and no matter what I do, it's not as poseable as my Zero or 1.5 bodies, and infinitely less poesable than a Shinydoll Thaasa body. Her head actually suits the smaller body better aesthetically, she has a large head, but a small face, so I find that she works perfectly on this body.
I love my two Unoss even though the 2nd one is still a work in progress. The 2nd head was modded very badly before landing a home here and its taking alot of time to fix it. (picture of my poor girl before I did anything) http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj18/the5thlab/mydolls/during1.jpg The only thing I hate is trying to find girly shoes for them =_=;;
oh, those are nice, Soula. the red color makes them less man-only. pretty girl. I also like her dress.
Thanks, Petiteballerine. The boots are actually black/brown, and her dress is part of a Dollheart outfit, that fits her beautifully.
Oh wow, a Unoss thread! I got mine from Doll & Hobby back in 2004...such a lucky find! But now she needs some heavy refurbishing because I left her out in the sun too long. ;_; I'll be sure to post here when I have her de-yellowed and all pretty!
I recently obtained an unoss aika and a siena head XD The aika is complete and unmodded and I hope that she will look as beautiful as Martis I will keep her unmodded too! The siena needs a body still poor thing!! I know there were extra ouftits, three kitty outfits, pink, white and black, of which I possess the white and black. And then the maid outfit from the book, that was one wasnt it? Were there any others? If so, which ones if any do you guys have? I love hearing about unoss!!
i love my unoss so much. she is unmodded. here are some old old pictures from when i first got her in 07': http://www.flickr.com/photos/desdisques/1118387038/in/set-72157601747329106/ there are some pictures on my flickr from when she was just a head too. her stock face-up was so awful. i bought her head on Y!Japan auctions, also the kitty set with ears, collar, and panties with tail. Her body i bought here on DOA. I need to take some newer pictures of her. my unoss goes barefooted most of the time, sometimes she wears my sd13 boy's converse, but her personality is more girly than that.
I love Unoss, they're so gorgeous! I want to buy one of these beauty, but they're not sell anymore ;_; Marti: Your Unoss is very very very (and more xD) fabulous! =D
I have always liked the Unoss molds. Both Aika and Seina. They are based on ova characters of that time and out of that they look very great for me. A question i will like to ask. How much some users here are willing to pay for a Unoss which have their years complete with outfit, accessories and wig? I will like to ask this here. If there is a thread about this, which i am looking for one, please send me the link. My opinion on this girls and the first releases is that they have the complete uniqueness that now other companies like Soom, Souldoll and obviously there cousins Unoa have maintain in the last years.
Soma, when you say "OVA" you mean like anime characters? I've heard something about this before and I would love to know more information and possibly identify those fictional characters,lol.. I'm surprised we know so little information about some of Gentaro's early work it's not like all this happened during the 90's when the internet wasn't like even invented(lol, kiddin') I guess it's probably maybe that some older fans have outgrown the hobby(?)
n66X: Haha i know you do. In the 90's Ovas were more cheaper to commercialized. A lot of people wanted anime after the introduction of series like Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball and many others. I am looking for the closest characters Seina and Aika are based on but typical feature of OVA females are the curvaceous body and long legs. Even this is not an ova and it is a 90's video game, if graphic were better in that time, Seina can have a little inspired in the artificial females from the Sega Genesis game Phantasy Star 3 and 4. Especially Rika from Phantasy Star IV and Mieu from Phantasy Star 3. I will be looking to find the exact characters since i want to know more on what Mr. Araki got inspired. No matter what there look is very unique and inspirations are on the body size more than anything. I was thinking if i got a Seina one day, to named her Mieu since that is a game that i over enjoyed in my child hood. Oh well enough with my stories and now time to investigate more on this. I am happy to find someone who is interest in searching to identify those fictional characters. Another good question for me is where are most of the people who started on the hobby when Volks was the only company back in 1999
Soma lol you are the greatest, that 'Phantasy star' games look like fun I may give them a shot, those characters you mention are cute and I can see a resemblance in the outfit gear of the u-noss, it seems that period Gentaro also drew some manga himself which are very hard to find(there is an auction right now for some of his doujinshi in YJA for 90,000Y!O__o; ) maybe some of the characters he makes are also featured there, yes i wonder where did those older fans go too sometimes, lol.
The unoss characters are Araki-sensei's own, you can read about them in the Andolrea U-noss book - unfortunately the only images I found of it is this soon defunct for sale-post. You can follow the plot through this translation. The reason that Araki-sensei's work feels very familiar to the manga-anime-games buff is that he is, as well, and his work reflects it clerarly. The same esthetic ideals, the same iconic characters...
N66x: Lol why thank you hahaha, naw thanks for your reply and i am very happy you liked those characters. Wow 90,000Y! for his doujinshi!!!! There is a very good positive chance that his doujinshi have some of his characters. This is interesting since we can easily know that Ian the first msd is based on Jigoku Shōjo but is searching for this is like an adventure. Let see what we can discover about Unoss.
N66X: Wow i love those illustrations. Thanks for sharing them I have no words to describe that peace of beauty. Congratulations on having that great illustration book. Quiet Queen: I imagine it was he's own creations. I just saw the similarity with those characters and that is why i like Aika and Seina from the first day i saw them. It is very obvious that he is a creative person and he contributed to Volks on one of the most creative dolls in the bjd market today. I personally love 90's Anime/Manga/Video Game Artificial Human characters and Seina makes a great memory of them just like i said before. Thanks for your information and for the links.
Marti, your Unoss is beautiful!! I love her outfit too~ Here's my Unoss Seina and Aika: My Seina still has her default faceup - I'm debating whether or not I should remove it - part of me wants to keep her completely unmodded...but I know she could look much better with a new faceup.. Here's a link to pics of the black and white kitty outfits - I'm not sure where you could buy them originally, but I'm assuming it was at some kind of event: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4094/4819499275_81eff59034.jpg
Oh, Veldfire22, you have two of the darling girls...! They are gorgeous! And that was the best picture of the two cat sets I've seen! My husband's still on the prowl for the white set, so to speak. Doesn't the white set come with a collar...? My husband's Mira at one of our doll society's events sporting the black cat set:
