      Unoas are slender minis, which is to say they are about the same height as the Volks MSD and similar dolls but proportioned in a more adult manner. Other slender minis include the Narindoll Narae and Narin, the Minifee line now sold at Fairydoll, and Limho and Limwha. Unoas take a 6/7 size wig.

      I have a Lusis, named Helly, and a Sist, named Tish. I adore their beautiful sculpts, their funny little faces, and the elegant and lovely job that Araki did in engineering them.

      Everytime I look at the two of them, I smile. :D

    2. All the dolls on the previous page are wonderful! Hats off to all of you. I am trying to keep up with this thread, which is hard as everyone posts such great photos and I love to look. But if I spend too much time here, I don't get any sewing, knitting or painting done!

      Well the weather here has been perfect knitting weather. In other words, snowy, windy and very cold! I did manage a walk today but walking when it is 14 degrees F out with the wind blowing and stepping in 12 inches of snow is pretty rough!

      I finally got Zac's first sweater and pants done. The pants are a light weight wool. The sweater is for his hero, Harry Potter. I dyed the bare lace weight Merino wool scarlet and red. The color pattern is very simple but good for a guy. I have a Nordic sweater charted and the yarns dyed in navy, red and white. But my Nola (Narae) wants a spring outfit. Can't blame her!

    4. ezechiel: what a gorgeous little redhead!! I love her freckles and her outfit!

      dollswest: you make the most beautiful sweaters!

      Amanohara: agreeing on the family picture! Do I spy a L-Bi girl there? :D

      And to not let this post be all text, here's a recent picture of my dreamy girl, Tinka :)

    5. I strung Ivy with her boobs today! She's soooo cute. And she seems to have stolen Berry's wig.. D:

      [IMG]

      But Beretta got back at her and stole HER wig instead:

    9. gaah! I just got my motivation back for selling clothes, BIG time! I have to get more faceplates! And after trying out the default eyes in my girls today i realized that the ones I got for them are way too big so I need new eyes aswell, and I want a new wig for Tomoe.. Geez! I need money again! :D

      I did a photoshoot today, here is a sneak preview, the rest is in the gallery.

      [IMG]

      Edit:
      I went and took some facial photos of my sweet Elliot later tonight and I just wanted to share! She's got the Sist-default eyes in and this is the first time I've actually used the eye-mechanism and I'm hooked! I will definitly need to get some 12mm eyes now since the 14mm ones I've got since before look too big now when i compare them. I won't post these in the gallery, so they can only be viewed here and in my flickr ^__^

    15. This thread had gotten to be very long! Almost 3,000 posts.
      We have restarted the thread using the opening post and the most recent 40 posts. We hope you can continue your discussion! :) Over-large threads are hard on the forum's search function and take longer to load, so we will be restarting threads that get to be very long. This thread should load much quicker for you!

      The original version of the thread can be found here:

      It is archive only, so you cannot post in it. However, you can enjoy the pictures, information, and nostalgia! :)

    16. Thanks armeleia!

      And wow, I know I've said it before, but everyone's girls are so beautiful! I have face-up envy!

      Yes, the tutorial is mine. ;) What I mean is that the resin part of my eye mechanism is defective. It has a chunk of resin missing from one of the "wings." It almost looks like someone stuck their fingernail in it when the resin was still soft. Picture. I cleaned it up as best I could and I don't think it's going to break, but it doesn't work so well. I'd like one that's not messed up.

      I think what the illustration means is that the eye rods have a slight bend in them. The longer part of the rod should go through the eye and the shorter part should rest in the groove above the eye hole. Otherwise, the eyes might not line up right. At least, that's what I think it means...

    17. Sorry - I couldn't remember whose tutorial it was! Excellent tutorial. I hope you find a new eye mechanism. Meanwhile, you could send that photo of the defective part to Masamichi at Crescent (I think [email protected]) and ask if he could get you a free replacement and how much the shipping would be (should be cheap for a flat piece like that). Supposedly Araki casts extras for replacing any defective pieces. Just not sure if Masamichi would handle that.

      Carolyn

    18. Carolyn: It's okay! :) Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try contacting Masamichi and see what he says. My email with my tracking number did say that we could contact him if there was a faulty part. I just didn't think of it!

    19. Love everybody's girls!!! (really should take some pics myself someday....) Anyhoot, I'm in the search for furniture (table & chairs mostly) for my girl that wont look oversized (which I think AG will). Any suggestions where I might find some online? Or searchwords I should use on ebay?

    20. Some of the American Girl furniture (delicate pieces) looks fine with Narae and Narae is almost identical in size to Unoa. I think avoid homemade pieces that use very thick wood. I know one of the AG's has a wooden desk set that looked perfect with someone's Narae. And someone else got the rope bed (for Unoa I think?) - it may have been the repro but it did not look too bulky. Be careful with stuffed couches and chairs made for AG - many are very bulky and very wide and deep because AG's have big behinds and don't bend their knees. And because they don't bend their knees, some furniture pieces sit very low.

      I found some furniture just by looking for stuff that is about 1/4 human scale. Measure some human dining room chairs and tables - seat height, seat width, height of an average-back chair, table height, etc. Divide by 4. That is the size furniture you want (with higher back if a high-back chair, etc). For seat height, you may want to use the measurement from the back of your Unoa's bent knee to her heel. Any seat height higher than that and only her toes or nothing will reach the ground, too much lower than that and the chair will look short. Sometimes I just search furniture in the doll section of Ebay (filtering out anything that says Barbie, Bratz, etc) and I have found some chairs that way. American girl furniture shop: http://store.americangirl.com/agsho...eId/223/nodeId/14/webMenuId/6/sName/Furniture You can also look through the furniture here (thought most of their stuff seems to be sized for 16 and 20 inch fashion dolls): http://www.dollmarket.com/

      One search you could try on Ebay - first go to the doll's section, then search Titles and Text for something like this:
      (9,9.5,10,10.5) chair (table,dining) -bratz -barbie

      Then add more minuses to screen out any bad results you get a lot of. The numbers are some inch chair heights I like but you could go a bit higher or lower if you are looking for highback or lowback chairs. If you are in a country that measures everything in cm, you'll need to change that set of numbers and maybe put * on the end of each one to pick up things like 25cm). You have to look at each one to check how it looks and the measurements.

      If you find one your like, you can double-check the size by sitting your Unoa and measuring where the chair back would hit her (chair height minus seat height would be back height), width of the chair compared to width of her behind, etc.

    21. does anyone have a pattern for a t-shirt modified to accomodate the large milk part, or anyone know how to go about modifying a pattern to do so? I'd like to make a tight "sexy" kind of t-shirt that will hug her tummy as well as her boobs. I'll look around in the Sewing forum, but it's become difficult without the Search function available. :'X

    22. There are patterns around that you can buy for Narae, Ellowyn, Minifee - not sure about T-shirt but there could be a pattern. I think fitting breasts in a T-shirt it has more to do with the fabric you choose - I imagine you's want a fabric that stretches well in all directions - maybe a lightweight cotton/spandex blend? We humans buy fitted T-shirts in stores and they only differ in the side seam which angles in toward the waist a bit in the fitted ones. They still are flat when you lay them out (no darts of gathers for the breast room). BTW - not sure if it cheaper than buying fabric, but last week K-mart had long sleeve pastel and bright Tees on sale for $5 and the Modern Fit is a nice lightweight cotton-spandex (there are 3 fits on the same shelves).

      Hope someone has a pattern for you!

    23. Sharing a photo of my Sist faceplate (Kaci) and my Lusis faceplate (Tori) they are sharing a body. :) Faceup's by Vanessa at Star-Studio

      [IMG]

      I have a Lusis kit that I can't make up my mind if I should keep it or sell it. Oh one hand it would be nice to have the girls have their own body. On the other, I like to keep the # of dolls down to where I will actually play with them. :)

    24. thank you, Carolyn.S! I'm most likely going to use one of the many t-shirts I've cut up already sitting in my craft dresser or in my exploding duffel bag of fabric. >__>; (and of course, the in-laws HAD to give me MORE fabric for xmas because mom-in-law gave me a sewing machine...) [/ramble]

      I've already skimmed through the first 6 or so pages of the Sewing forums and have found nothing, so I'm hoping someone will pop in here with a magical pattern. ^^; if nothing shows up, I'll resort to using darting. x'D

    25. Kdkstar - Lena is very pretty! The colors (especially the hat and wig) complement her coloring.

      LeeAnn - your girls look lovely! I love that wig on Kaci - it's perfect for her.

    27. Gah, took me a while to realise this thread has now a 'part 2'. 8D

      enmi: I absolutely adore your girls! They're so cute and full of personality and style. <3

      Here's a pic of my girl:

      [IMG]

      I'm hoping to give her a new faceup and rethinking her name. D: I've yet to truly bond with her properly just yet.

    28. Horay for all those amazing Unoas.. I could not figure out what had happened to the thread and it took me a while to find this one..
      Ja, I am DoA challenged.

      I wanted to show you all my newest boy.

      His name is Kai.. I got him Friday Night and finished him today.. lol yes I powered thru all day.. and of course sanded and prepped him last night.
      He is the first Unoa boy that I had named before he even arrived.. he is also the first where I new exactly how I wanted his face to be... I saw one on Yahoo Japan that was the best L-bi face I had ever seen.. and thought I might be able to duplicate it.

    29. Thank-you! The Unoa faces are so well sculpted it isn't that hard to do a decent face-up, even for a shaky-handed person like me!
      And the name Nausicaa was pilfered from a Miyazaki film (maybe the very first full length one).

      Nausicaa is wearing 12mm Hands Glass Eyes in cherry blossom (400 series, I think) from Ginarolo.

      thanks! :)

    30. I got my girl Julia yesterday. She is so lovely! Cant get her to stand by herself though, you think I should string her more tightly?

    34. This was a great weekend.... from 4 Unoas to 6 .. After finishing Kai yesterday, I went off to work on this special project.. I was so nervous about messing her up.. and even though not everything went perfect.. I still think this little girl turned out pretty good..

      Here is No. 6 of my little Clan..
      She too does not yet have a name.. when I get the outfit and Wig I envision for her arrive, I am sure I will think of a suitable name.

      TiggTea: Thanks^^
      chopsart: Your girls is so cute. Love the wig! <3
      Carolyn.S: Those are Masterpiece Copenhagen..(with blonde eyelashes).
      DenaliWind:Thank you~

    36. Carolyn.S: The blouse is from Mio (still available at her site). I bought the wig from Dollga and the color is L.Brown if I remember right~

      TiggTea: I hope you find your girl!

    37. Just wanted to say every ones girls and boys are looking swell.
      To add to the Unoa love fest, I present my dolls butt.
      [IMG]
      I drew on it. XD

    38. That little part is adorable! I noticed it, too - and I think it looks super cute.
      My Lusis Jinx' front teeth sometimes seem crooked in pictures, and I love her even more when that happens :) like here:

      [IMG]

    39. When I first posted here I had recently won a sist on ebay but she was a little too serious for me so I found a lusis and the sist faceplate has a nice new owner.

      Here's my girl, Jordi, finally, all fixed up. ( the teeth part was too crooked so i had to use sculpy in lace of it :sweat )

      [IMG]

      Lunasa- your girls are beautiful, congrats!

    40. The picture is not so good, but I just wanted to share her in her newcut mohair ^^

      [IMG]

      I also took Mana outside this weekend, here's a pic of her too~

    42. I gave Seph, my Sist boy a new face up. It was a tiring process. There are some things I'm not so happy with but I'm done with it for now ^^;
      [IMG]

      [IMG]

    43. kchan - Beautiful job! What brand/size of eyes is he wearing? I love the size and color in him.

      Carolyn

    44. Thanks everyone ^^; I got frustrated cause everytime I sprayed MSC, dust flew in.

      Carolyn.S, he's wearing Ginarolo's Sea Foam 10mm. They're just a little small when fitting into the eyehole.

      sistercuervo, yeap, he's on my L-bi's body.

    45. Some more Vellum Spam

    46. That's a tinybear wig in cinnamon swirl? It's very lovely, I love the length on her. These shots are lovely too, I love the 'props' they go so nicely with the pretty dress.

    47. Fantastic dress! I love the contrasting black & red belt/bow against the pale beauty of her skin. Very romantic--I love it!

    48. Cornstarch that dress is fantastic. So romantic and different from what we usually see on these girls.

    49. I should have my Lusis and Madoromi faces back from being painted soon. That will be fun!

      Question all - is there some kind of more flexible sandpaper I could use to gently sand my girl's hands? I did not quite get the shine off of them. The stiff sandpaper and foam block sanders I have are too bulky or stiff to do the hands. Would Mr Clean eraser be better for that?

      Carolyn

    50. Suzu : yay! I'm so happy for you :D

      Carolyn.S: I always use sponge sandpapers EM3, they are quite flexible and you can reach all the little spaces in the hands :3

      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      Today *finally* recived my mr.clear order and been able to finish some faceups that I've been working for so long @_@
      [IMG]
      On the left a modified Lusis faceplate from the last parts preorder. Sanded the upper eyelid to avoid the droppy eyes. I think that it's noticeable, what do you think?
      Right Carla's Sist that she been waiting to be finished for so long!!
      The other doll is my PukiSugar :3
    51. Flonne: they're so cute!
      Holly is finnaly finsished ^^ now she needs a new wig and a pair of eyes.
    52. Flonne! I'm so in love with the left Lusis, and your Sugar is soo cute! I feel horrible posting my photos after that candy *_*
      I'm going to re-do her face-up, and hopefully I will have sunlight in the next few days..
      [IMG]
    53. Thats an L-bi girl! No wonder I thought she looked a bit like Argos! (they both have white hair X3) What a cutie!
    54. Cornstarch - She's so beautiful and that dress is gorgeous! :aheartbea
    55. I love your two girls , I hope to have my new unoa shortly
    56. Vellum looks wonderful in your new dress. Did you designed it or use a pattern?
      So lovely--all of them. Lusis looks awesome, interesting that you removed the droopy eyelids.
      She looks so sweet... is that a B-el faceplate? Love your Unoas!
    57. Cornstarch: beautiful dress, you girl looks very elegant with it. *loves the fabric*
      Amanohara: Thanks! ^^ your L-bi girl looks fantastic! Now definitely I want one too *__*
      chopsart: Yes, it was just an experiment and it turned out quite well, but Flonne still my favorite :3
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

      Here is a pic with my Sist body *the new kit still in the box ^^;* and wig, she looks quite sexy.

      [IMG]

      *big size*

    58. Flonne, thank you, your girl, she's amazing.. and most of my Sist is still in her box in pieces, I started sanding, but I'm nowhere done, and have to work on re-doing face-ups too. :sweat

      Musashi-chan, thank you, yes ^^ She's supposed to have fiery red hair, but I still have yet to find the perfect wig. I was surprised she looked so good in the Sist wig!

      Chopsart, thank you! she's a L-bi plate, I've seen a few B-el girls, I think they are cute too.

    59. Flonne, your faceups are so beautiful! Delicate and natural, just lovely.

    60. Wow! I absolutely love the way you did your Lusis!!
      Do you also take commissions? ;D :fangirl:

      Oh and my Lusis is on her way home! Wiiiehh!!
      Still kinda doubting about her face-up. :kitty2
