No matter how much I try I can never seem to get the headcap/head to match up perfectly, or knee to shin. I can get it so close but after receiving my doll back in resin I was blown away by how well they did x_x I use Apoxie sculpt now, way better then paperclay for details- I was wondering if anyone had any tips? My godfather had the idea of when making a mold to use a mold release on the piece and just pour resin directly on top of the part needing matching...hope that makes sense. Haven't tried it yet, but I need to get gloves first so I don't die from the silicone XD
making the parts match in your sculpt, do you mean? There's a trick garage kit sculptors use: If you've made the knee joint, and you're trying to match the shins to it, you cut off the top of the shins, put soft clay on it, and smoosh that onto the knee joint, this way, when it hardens, the two parts will fit perfectly. When the clay is still soft you can position it a bit, using your diagram or the other leg for reference. After it has hardened, you can reposition by sawing it off and making adjustments...does this make sense?
I use that sort of method (I think) Adding clay to one part, pushing the other piece onto it to fit- I don't let them dry that way though... The sawing off part kinda confuses me I think XD Here's a rather crude drawing of what I do (Done with mouse in Paint XD) View attachment 288
cheshirepanda: yeah, we're talking about the same thing! The sawing off part is just to make more room for the soft clay. I like sawing parts off when I make adjustments (to move parts I've already sculpted), rather than sanding and reforming?
Well, I do the same but the clay I use shrinks when it dries and at the end is not a perfect much once again because it's too small. So I have to sand and repeat the process and so on until it fits, more or less, well. Never perfect in my case Do you have the same problem or is your clay non-shrinkable?
