Uncanny Dreams 2012 Discussion

Mar 23, 2012

1. I'm so excited!!! I visited last year with my husband and Pocket Fairy Yoko - we all had a great time :D I can't wait to attend again this August! The new location sounds great, too!

2. Sounds exciting...!! I can't wait to hear more about this. It's during my vacation so I may be able to make a trip out there...! 8D Gunna keep my eye on this! <3

3. I'm extremely excited for this, last year was a blast and I'm sure this year will be the same!

4. I loved being involved last year and am honored to get to be a bigger part of this year's Uncanny Dreams. Can't wait to let my imagination run wild!

5. Yay!!
Thanks for all your amazing efforts last year. What a great event it was. I know you guys have already put in Lots of energy finding a new location. I look forward to playing dollies with you again this summer.

6. YAY yay YaY!!!!!

I'm soooo excited for this!

7. Whoot! I am thrilled. Last year was wonderful and am excited that a space was found for this. I'm there and will be spreading the word. :D

8. I am SO EXCITED!!! OMG, I am completely stoked. Now, can I be nerdy and ask about the theme? Are you using labyrinth in the traditional sense of a single twisting path to the heart, or in the more confused modern sense of it being confounded with mazes--the true original labyrinth didn't have divergent paths, but was indicative of a spiritual (and possibly fertility) journey? I could start talking of the old rounded 7-turn and larger square labyrinths..obviously I am way too obsessed with labyrinths, it's one of my favorite things, so combining it with dolls makes me squee hard, woo-hoo! :D

Will there be themed goodies for us or the dolls? Aaah, I can't stand it! I must go off and be excited! :)

.hlp

9. sorry for the double post--the web for me is doing something weird :?

10. thank you everyone for your excitement! it's making me and the elves squee to no end! ;)

heidipay - we are leaving the interpretation of the theme up to the attendees! it can be interpreted in the original sense as you mentioned, as a maze, as relating to the movies labyrinth or pan's labyrinth, or in a more esoteric/abstract sense. we want to challenge everyone and get those creative juices flowing! there's a lot of talent in the bjd community and we want to give everyone a chance to express themselves at the show!

11. :( GAAA why did I have to move and why did I promise my boyfriend I would visit him and his family in Texas in August instead of coming back to Seattle to visit :( it's not fair

12. I'm so excited to hear it's at the VERA project! I went to my last school dance there, it's AWESOME.

13. Sounds like fun! I may have to reserve some vacation time & hit the highway! :)

14. I really really want to go it this year!!! I just hope that the manager conference I go to in August isn't the same week XD I'd be so sad

15. :sumomo: < That is me, right now. I had a BLAST last year and can't wait for this one!

16. last year was a blast! crossing fingers and toes to get my Mom and Dad to go again. i chickened out and left all my kids at home last year, but i just may bring one or two to mingle....

17. Yay! This is going to be so awesome this year.:D

18. I'm beyond excited!! This'll be my first ABJD Expo, so I'm *thrilled*!!

19. It was just so beautiful last year! :D I'm positive it will be even more outstanding this year as we have the first experience to draw from. I'm so excited, it's just so nice to try and figure out who might go with me--I'm thinking I will try to be brave and bring a small crowd with me this year! :)

.hlp

20. Last time I brought my smallest doll, because I wasn't sure what to expect (it was my first time going to a doll expo of any kind). This time around, I may bring someone bigger, but I'm not sure whom yet!

heidipay, I'd love to see all your little fairies! Though, that may be a bit much for you to carry

21. I'm debating! :D Part of me would love to Soom faery out bigtime, but then I'm thinking I might bring the Fly Mikhaila army...and my sister wants to bring the Rosen Lied girls (and boy Louie), so it looks like we won't be doing large dolls, but will do a lot of the tinier dolls. :) We just have to be sure to have equal time watching so the other one has enough time to go look at the things on sale...I was very guilty last year! :sweat I wonder if I could pull off bringing Anson and Moment?

And hopefully we'll be able to find a restaurant in the area that's gluten-free, but I have an app for that. ;)

.hlp

22. I'd love to see Mikhaila in person as well! She's one of those dolls I keep waffling about, so seeing one would probably make the decision much easier for me. I'm so excited for this convention!

I'm thinking of maybe bringing my Pipos LE Dorothy, or perhaps Dear Mine Priscilla. I don't think I want to go with an SD, especially because none of my SDs are really that exciting

23. YESSSSSSSSS~! So excited for this again! Loved it last year and it sounds like it's going to be a blast this year!I didn't own a doll the first time but now that I do, I know this is going to be a lot more enjoyable for me.

24. I have to smile about the deciding which doll to bring......
Last year my daughter Lirin brought her absolute biggest doll - Eugenie her Lusion doll. 9 pounds doesn't sound terribly heavy, but it doesn't take long to feel she is MUCH heavier!

25. I think I remember your daughter's doll, Sheri! :D I adore getting to see so many sculpts, it's just breath-taking to get to meet everyone--though I'm so clueless about 'duh, I am in three WRs with you, OMG', LOL! I almost wish we could get nametags with our account pictures next to them, though some people change those often as well, it's how I 'recognize' people half the time, hah! ;)

Now Anna, I'm hoping desperately you bring your Pipos LE Dorothy, I was quite tempted by Dorothy and would love to see yours in-person--no pressure! I totally concur about the bigger dolls, but I am still flirting with bringing my Souldoll Bliarde--I am working on him, but I would adore it if I could bring him along, it would mean he's done enough to be seen! :)

.hlp

26. Sheri I remember seeing you daughter and her doll, it was such a treat to see a Lusion in person. I am hoping that I can get my buts in gear and make matching outfits for my Spiritdoll Abies and myself ala steampunk. But we shall see how the months go.

27. Excitemeeeent *flails* Last year was super fun, looking forward to a little more space XD;

Then comes the question of who to bring... the SD boy who always comes to meets with me, Drachengold and his stabby feet - Can't be any worse then hauling an entire doll box around - ooorrr the easily-portable msd/yo-sds (yeah right, that'd make sense).

Heidipay: I like your nametag idea. I don't do well with names, I remember people by their avatars or their online names |D;;

28. heidipay, that actually makes my decision a bit easier. I'd love to bring a doll that people would want to see in person vs. one that everyone has seen many times over. So, LE Dorothy is definitely in the running

Also, the name tag idea featuring our avatar pictures sounds great. I may stop by Staples and have my avatar printed on nice glossy paper and attach it to my name tag.

29. miss mabel, if you would, could you bring your lovely Limhwa Sara with you? If she is too much to bring with your Abies, I understand. :)

Anna, I would love to see your Soom Haidi~

If anyone attending has a Spiritdoll Proud GIRL and would be willing to let me frankendolly her for a bit (let me put my Anederl head on her), I would be very appreciative! :D :D :D

Hmm, as for who I am going to bring...Probably a Soom girl. Or my Miyu.

This is going to be SO.MUCH.FUN.

30. Yuu-Hanabusa:Ahhh Sara...she is easy to tuck in to a bag. Will bring her along. She got lots of looks and comments at last year's UnCannyDreams. :D Looking forward to seeing all. I too will use my avatar ( ha ha--my beloved Abies) on a name tag. :)

31. Something to keep in mind . . .
One of the things about last years event -- which will be true for this years also -- is that there will be no designated space to leave dolls that will be watched, all attendees will be responsible for their own dolls. I would suggest not to bring more than you can carry around or use the buddy system. Bring a friend and take turns watching the dolls.;)

32. ^^THIS^^

everyone will be responsible for their own belongings and purchased items. we cannot take on the responsibility of watching over people's belongings - much less their dolls. plus, after having taken dolls to many cons and large events myself, i would agree with poptart on not bringing more than you can carry and would amend it to saying not more than you can comfortably carry. even a yo can become a hassle when you constantly are wanting to look at things, much less trying to juggle through five dolls at once. ;) *guilty of just that type of thing*

we do suggest the buddy system like heidipay mentioned doing with her sister. it's a great way to see the show and get to show off your own army! i'd be doing this if i weren't heading up the event...but alas! i shall be running around all day and will likely only bring one doll. le sigh~

also! we will have name tags this year! we will likely not have avatars printed on them, but i will make a note about it and more information will be available closer to the date of the show. right now we're all working hard behind the scenes and the elves and i are being buoyed along by everyone's excitement! :)

33. I'm so excited for this. And it's at a great time, too, since it won't conflict with or be super close to other doll conventions! (Plus, it won't interfere with PAX Prime, since that's August 31st to September 2nd, this year.)

34. I missed the last one and REALLY want to go this August! It's a three hour drive each way for me, so I chickened out, and missed something spectacular. And which doll to bring? I'll have to think about it, as I am over protective and don't like taking them out of the house, lol!

35. kurogane do yourself a favor and a treat and go to this one. I swear you will not regret it (okay--so your pocket book might )

36. OMG yes, I must say last year's Uncanny Dreams was just insanely lovely, and OMG Yuu! I didn't get to chat enough with you last year! :D But everyone who possibly can, I'm certain you wouldn't regret the trip, there were people from BC and Oregon last year who were quite determined to come back again, it was so amazing. :)

I'm just finding it so exciting as well, I'd love to haul dozens of dolls along--it is possible, argh! But they are soo heavy and with so many things to worry about, I will choose the ones I can move about securely and pray it doesn't rain. :sweat Believe me, the buddy system is outstanding! :D

.hlp

37. I am thinking of going but is it super cramped? I used to do the Doll and Friends trunks, but they were so packed with no space to move around that it set off my anxiety. Of course confessing that makes me sound like a crazy person...I just like to avoid sardine situations.:)

38. The Vera project is a nice sized space with multiple useful areas . . .

39. I talked it over with my travel buddy (my mom) and she suggested taking the train up and back and making a weekend (mini vacation) out of it. No traffic, and not being in a rush to do it all in one day (I've done that, not anymore, lol).

I want to go so I can see as many different dolls as I can, especially SD size. I need to get a visual of how big they actually are, as a measuring tape does not work! It only shows the height, but not the weight or the scale. AND, I want to meet BJD enthusiasts!!

40. OMG, my plans have changed--my sister just gave me a fullset Soom Nephelin for an early birthday gift! :o Now I am suddenly seized with the idea of bringing my Great Ladies--somehow--to the show...I am dying over here! :sweat

I am hoping for some nice space--no one should feel bad for not wanting to be crowded when you have expensive, heavy dolls, LOL! But it does sound like a lovely space for seeing dolls. :)

.hlp

41. I completely understand your concern. The dolls and friends meets did tend to be very full and moving around the shop with bunches of folks with their dolls camped out on the floor was hard for me too.
My observations over a number of years of BJD collecting is that a lot of us are sensitive tender folks. Maybe that quality helps us love the dolls and find many kindred spirits in the hobby.
It sounds like this venue will be really great. Hope you can come!

42. Thanks guys! You've talked me into it.

43. Now that I've had time to think about it, one doll company I'd really love to see there would be Doll Chateau <3 Hopefully if someone owns one of their dolls they'll won't mind bringing them? I've been dying to see and fidget with one in person.

44. This is an event I haven't heard of. Any suggestions on where I can see some pix or a link to the show info?

Jill

45. If you do a search here on DoA several members have uploaded pics of the event.

46. as miss mabel said, there are pictures up here on doa from last year. below are some links to places to find pictures and video of the 2011 show. :)

47. all mine are big kids... and my buddy (Mom) gets shy if she carries one. she might also bring one of her own...hmm. will have to see about personal transport for the kids..... i have time hehehe.... there were name badges last year. they ran out and lots of people used their mmm... real names. it took me looking at the picts after the fact to find out "oh, yeah! that's so and so...." huge help if we used our DOA names. just sayin....

48. I agree about using our DoA names. In my case, though, my DoA name is my real name, so I guess that may confuse some people.

49. I actually get to go to this show this year! :D I'm SO excited! I'm pondering who to bring... I'll have so many to choose from by the time the show rolls around...

50. I was wondering if anyone knows the closest airport to where this is?

51. That would be Sea-Tac (airport code SEA).

52. Thank you Anna :)

53. Oh my goodness I want to come to this so VERY badly. SO badly. I didn't get to go last year, and I feel that ought to be rectified!

If I make it I will probably bring Katen, my Shiwoo, since he seems to come with me everywhere, but I will have my new boy by then, too...decisions, decisions.

54. No problem! Hope to see you there :)

55. Count me in...with Jpopdolls...
Last year was so much fun...

56. Hey, cool, the video ends on my prophet-girl, Ǝrəšiš! ^______^

I'm super excited for this year's show. Can't wait until we have more information on the vendor setup and how to register as a dealer.

57. Ahhh. there is a long shot of the side of my head and I am eating :oI love that doll Kiya!

58. we're just working out some final details and then will have more info for vendors!

kiya - i couldn't resist ending with her! :D

59. I, too, am interested in vendor info when available. I did put my name on the list last year, as I remember.
