Maintenance Ultrasueding advice

Jun 12, 2025

    1. Does anyone have resources/info on how to use ultrasuede/moleskin to suede a doll? I've tried hot glue in the past, and I find it kind of messy and unpredictable, and sometimes futile haha.

I handled one of Aishavoya's Larks a number of months ago at nyc dollcon, and it had the most stable posing I've ever encountered in bjd, I think on account of using ultrasuede in the joints. So, I'd like to do the same with an incoming doll of mine, but I'm worried about screwing it up since it's more involved than hot glue, so any advice or resources would be appreciated!

    2. There's a really great tutorial in the tutorials section of the workshop! I would add to it that I've tried the PVA/school glue option that they don't recommend but say is possible (just because it's an easier glue to find), but it does not last well.

    3. This is fantastic!! exactly what i was looking for, thank you so much!

    4. I used pliver, which is leather that is SO thin it is used for the thinnest of linings, and it works beautifully.

    7. If you have one anywhere near you, look for leather bag making shops. They'll have suede you can touch and test for thinness, grip, and color. I sueded both of my big girls, but I discover that the resin in my Musedoll's knees is so thin that the suede's color was visible through the outside of the resin (even though it was light grey.) I ended up taking the suede out of just her knees, which is a bit unfortunate because those are her "mostly likely to suddenly fold and collapse" joints!
