[UK - London] Pygmalion Society Midwinter Mêlée - Saturday 12th November 2011

Jul 12, 2011

    1. [IMG]

The Pygmalion Society is a group of doll and figure collectors who meet each month to celebrate all forms of miniature, artificial life. Last year we held a ticketed event to brighten up the dreary midwinter. It was such a success that we are repeating it this year.

As before, this is a charity event. Any profits made will be donated to Cancer Research UK, as will all money from raffle tickets and any donations made.

      DATE

      12-5.30pm, Saturday 12th November 2011

      VENUE

The Trader, 142-146 Whitecross Street, City of London EC1Y 8QJ

The nearest tube stations are Old Street (0.3 miles, Northern Line), Barbican (0.3 miles, Circle Line, Hammersmith and City Line and Metropolitan Line) and Liverpool Street (0.6 miles, Central Line, Circle Line, Hammersmith and City Line and Metropolitan Line).

Head west out of Old Street station along Old Street. When you get to the pelican crossing near to the old church, turn left down Whitecross Street and you'll see the pub on your left. We have the entire pub to ourselves, so just make your way to the main door and you will be let in by kindly Pygmalion Society elves.

      A map is here.

      ADMISSION

Admission will be by advance ticket only. As we have a larger venue this year than last, there will be no limit on the number of tickets you can buy.

Tickets will be available from Friday 15th July 2011.

Early bird tickets will be available until 31st August and will cost £10. After then, they will cost £12.

To buy your ticket, send your payment, via Paypal, to madammaumau "at" nachtzirkus "dot" co "dot" uk, specifying what the money is for and the names of the attendees (whichever you want to appear on the ticket, so most people opt for their online names). I will then email you your electronic tickets to the email address in your PP account. You will need to print these out and bring them with you on the day.

Tickets are not transferable as they will have the attendee's name on them. If you find that you can't make it on the day but find someone who can, let me know and I will cancel your ticket and issue you with a fresh one with the new attendee's name on.

      FACILITIES

A buffet lunch will be provided and this is included in the ticket price. Soft drinks and alcoholic drinks will also be available. These are not included in the ticket price. All ages are welcome to the event, but only over 18s may buy alcoholic drinks. If you are under 21 and wish to have an alcoholic bevvy, please don't forget to bring your ID.

      THEME

The theme for this special meet will be fairytales, so dress your dolls, or yourselves, in anything from the Brothers Grimm to Lewis Carroll. There are prizes for the best styled doll, so get that needle and thread out.

      EVENTS

[IMG] Dolly Doctor on Call: The awesome Krowbar will offer a limited number of appointments for ailing dolls. Treatments on offer will include restringing, wiring and sueding. We propose that there be a small donation for an appointment with the Good Doctor.

[IMG] Souvenir photo booth: A corner of the venue will be set up for taking photos of your lovelies with a fetching background and props. Or make a small donation and have one of our in-house photographers do it for you.

[IMG] Bring and buy table: Bring in those wigs, eyes and clothes that no one at home wears and return with armfuls of other stuffs. Details of how to do this are here.

[IMG] Party games: You thought the regular Pygmalion Society meets could be puerile. You ain’t seen nothing yet! A few party ice breakers will be organised to get us started.

[IMG] Raffle: We will be selling raffle tickets for a small fee, all of which will go directly to our chosen charity. And the prizes are STUPENDOUS! More information to come.

      COMPETITIONS

      [IMG] Best theme-styled doll:

      - Create someting with your doll in line with the theme of fairy tales. How you chose to do this is up to you. You can submit a single doll in a fairy tale costume, a group of dolls representing a fairy tale, or a doll with props or a diorama. However, all entries must be of a reasonable size, so no more than a 50x50cm base for a diorama, for example.

      - You may submit up to three entries.

      - You may enter on the day of the event by filling out a competition entry form and displaying your doll(s) in the competition area during the judging period.

      - Dolls may be of any type, including figures, vinyl dolls, artist dolls or handmade dolls.

      - Entries must have a significant element of customisation undertaken by the entrant. For example, if you are submitting a costumed doll, the outfit needs to be at least 50% homemade or heavily customised bought items. Entrants will be required to summarise the content of their entry and which elements were made or customised by themselves.

      - Entrants will be judged at the event by attendee vote.

      - In the case of a draw, the outfit with the most elements made or customised by the entrant will be judged the winner.

      [IMG] Getting arty:

      (i) Best theme-related artwork
      (ii) Best theme-related photograph

Entries in and voting under way.

The prizes for the three competitions will be selected from amongst the larger prizes that have been donated. So you might find yourself going home with a brand new dolly!

    38. Hurrah for more party guests.

Nathan, you MUST make it. And that is why you have been so quiet...

    39. Oooh Luigi from Repo by any chance? *Grins* I LOVE that movie! Also don't worry about the dolls not being in theme, it's mostly just a bit of fun!

    40. booked the day off from work today ^__________________^

    41. Finally remembered to email about getting a ticket (kept meaning to but kept getting distracted). XD Definitely able to make this one.

    42. finally i found it!! XD

    43. Yay!

Apologies to this waiting on a ticket after emailing. I will get onto this soon.

And a reminder that the early bird ticket price is about to expire, so get emaling!

    44. WOW! This sounds awesome!

    45. Come along, Jacobean. It would be great to see you.

    46. Finally got around to emailing about tickets! :D

After a thorough lack of ideas, my poor Sard will be dragged along as Mr Tumnus. Does that count? xDDDD

    47. I doubt that I'll get time to put together themed outfits for my gang... they'll just have to come dressed in their best.

      Teddy

    48. If I email about a ticket now and pay in September, do I pay the Early bird price or not? 'cos I have like... £3 in my bank account at the moment because I had to use my card to top up my Oyster card for the meet last weekend, but I get £25 allowance on the 1st of September...

And Cuprit's Snow Queen outfit is starting to form x3

    49. You need to pay before the end of the month to qualify for the early bird discount, I'm afraid.

    50. That reminds me!
Payday was today so I shall send some monies over to you at some point today Mau!

    51. Ooh I think I can make it to this. What civilised hours! I'm not good at being an early bird on a weekend (and trust me to see this post the day after the earlybird deadline!)
I still feel like such a noob :doh
Will you be gentle with me if I can attend ><

    52. dim-wit: Of course we will!

    53. MadamMauMau did you get my email?
I sent it a few days ago and have a horibble feeling I didn't type your email address properly *_*

    54. It's only an extra £2, so I'm not overly disheartened. Once I'm all sorted for Uni I'll email about a ticket. :D

    55. Whoops I missed the early bird price >_< never mind. I gotta get my butt in gear and actually email about this as I managed to get that weekend off so I can defo come XD

    56. Ok
I'm coming! (just sent my mail) :D

    57. This sounds amazing!! I wish I could go :] The cause is beautiful, you guys are great. It's wonderful that your enjoyment of BJDs is helping a cause ^^ (my family has a long history of cancer so I really find it touching)
I'm only going to London for the first time and only for a couple days next next week though. (Of course my BJDs are coming with me - actually could someone PM me, are they very strict or rough with them in airports?o.o)
I've made a friend become interested in BJDs and she will be purchasing her own soon. She's in Leicester but I'll make sure to tell her about this, I'm sure it'll be worth the short trip!

    58. ...ellor...
um. I think my mail may have lodged in the interweb. My history of getting doll-con applications wrong is currently 1 out of one 1 (my art submissions for the Rosadoll con. *doh!*).

      so ditto Akudem...

    59. Should be coming, just need to actually get the ticket >.>

    60. I think a bunch of us are still waiting for our tickets, so don't worry to those who haven't yet! (I haven't either)
