twigLiMBS body WIP Thread [completed]

Jan 29, 2006

    1. Bump! I am organising to get a quote hopefully next week for mouldmaking and casting. Can everyone who is interested please email me (twigling AT broadpark DOT no โ€” put "LIMBS" in the subject-line) so I can make a proper list of people and simultaneously have a way to contact everyone with updates. Once I have the costing info I will put a post in the marketplace as well. Watch this space!!

    2. Okay! Yeah, I want some. I've sent you an eMail, too, but I'm not sure if you got it. Let me know if you haven't. ^_~ I'd be wanting a pair of arms AND legs. In fact, I might even be wanting TWO pairs of the arms...

And yes, they would be for one of the newer SD13 girl bodies, so they won't quite fit without modification...but I'm cool with that. I can change anything that you end up not doing (if that makes sense?).

And have I mentioned that I REALLY love the shoulder-cuff idea? Like...REALLY love it. I think you should do that.

    3. lord, did you sculpt those beautiful hands or are those the sd hands? :O

    4. They are unoss hands.

    5. lol i love the pics of the arms without legs... he makes me think of monty python's hly grail >.<

    6. Wow, the legs look so.. natural. <3<3<3
If I had money, I'd buy a pair from you, even though I'm not quite sure how to string a doll...!!!

    7. I'm absolutely speechless, this is amazing!

    8. I'm absolutely speechless, this is amazing!

    9. I'm wondring if this would be a better option for my pureskin SD10 boy....do you know how well they work with the pureskin bodies yet?

    10. RottenLullaby, the arms would work, but the legs would need a little bit of modification to fit in the hip-socket of a pureskin body.

And I should mention, I have reworked the elbows and they were finished last night, the remaining step now is to sculpt a nice pair of hands.

After this I think I will be working out how much mouldmaking material I will need etc, and it looks like I will be doing my own moulding and casting. I'm hoping to start producing in January 2007, and there will be a thread in the Marketplace at that stage. I will probably have a few sets for sale straight away, and then will be taking pre-orders.

      So please stay tuned!!

    11. Hey Twigling!
The legs and hands are just amazingly GORGEOUS!
I do have a few questions, do you think these would fit the usual sd10 sculpt? I've never seen the different between them and the old SD bodies. The volk sd10 is the one that has no joints on the torso, just plain smoothness :) I'm sure you knew that already though :)
Would they need any modifications to fit?

      Kasita

    12. Your work is so amazing, I love the arms and the legs you've created. I dying to see them for sale.

    13. Kasita, the arms will fit, but the legs will need some wor/modification in the hip area to fit properly. You are talking about the pureskin SD10, right?

Nylh, please don't die just yet, it won't be too long now:) It will be after xmas etc, though.

    14. Hello ^^
yup yup I'm talking about the pureskin sd10, if the modifications are done to fit the sd10 pureskin would it then be interchangable to fit the sd13 body too? :D

Sorry for all the questions but it does mean I'm incredibly interested cause these are just... plain... gorgeous!

    15. Man, all I have to say is that that's talent right there. Compliments! I just wish I had an SD to giv eyou even more business. x3

    16. Kasita,

The original legs used for pureskin SD10s are interchangeable with those used for SD13 girls (the FCS 'long leg' option for SD10 is the normal length leg for FCS Sd13 girls). So if you modify the leg parts themselves they would fit both SD10 and SD13. With some additional padding in the hip socket, they would also work on SD13 boys.

I might consider making hip parts for various doll types if there is enough interest, but I would prefer to just do the originally intended old SD torso parts, and then move on to a full-doll project.

    17. that's awesome :D
Thank you so much for telling me all these info :)
You'll definitely be getting a mail from me when i get home regarding joining the mailing list :)

    18. twig, have you considered making anthro legs?

and regarding a full-doll project, i encourage you to try making a tauren female from world of warcraft :P i wish i could sculpt one... ::sob::

    19. Hi Chuuie, Sorry I won't be venturing into any anthro stuff in the forseeable future, its just not something that interests me, I am just too enamoured with working with the human (female) form.

    20. bumping this to add myself to this thread & to hopefully remind myself to email twigling for a set when I get home (can't email from work)

Very nice job twigling! Plus this would be fantastic for the loose old SD torso I have lying around with no arms/legs ^^; I might have missed it, but will this be available in white skin as well?

    21. Still desperately interested in these. **huge grin** I can't wait - finally seeing this coming together has me very excited.

    22. Elle, yes they will be available in white skin as well.

Kiyakotari (and everyone else) I have started on the hands, but had to take a break to finish my Secret Santa contribution for the Aussie group. I imagine everything in December will be really slow anyways, but please know I haven't forgotten this, and its come so far now it would be a huge waste not to finish it.

    23. How AMAZING twigling~! I should have checked it out earlier~><
prefectlly beautiful and functionable (will all those guestures many purchased BJDs cannot pose)~Excellent job!

    24. I emailed you :D

    25. Elle, I think I got your email the other day? It's filed with the others now. I will go though this thread again and tally the interest. I have one hand almost finished and the other not far behind. I think I can get them done this week coming.... fingers crossed.

    26. I hope I am still on the list, got my torso ready and waiting.

    27. Fitz, you're on the list. The hands are virtually done, I just need to take some pictures.

    28. Bump for updates in first post.

    29. Wow how wonderful these are coming along. They are so nice. I'll have to keep up withthsi thread and maybe order a set from you.

      Senna

    30. Ohh I love the new hands, very nicely posed, sculpted etc- great job.

    31. wow that looks really nice, great job ^^

    32. Thought I should show what the hands look like in proportion with the arms and the rest of the body. May need to sand and fiddle with them again. I also strung the body again today, and I am still not happy with the knees, I am worried about them being too fragile, so I will need to look more at that before I can mould/cast. Same with the elbows, they need a bit more work. I swear it feels like I will never finish this, but I need to at the very least be happy with it before I can foist it on anyone else.

Biggest news is I will start work on a torso as well. I will still sell Limbs sets for those who don't need a torso, but I will be doing a full body as well. No heads are planned yet. The torso will be non-jointed, more mature, but less busty (natural droop as opposede to invisible corset). The hipjoint will be different as well. I don't know much more till I put something on paper... there is a bit more ranting and blurbing on my LJ atm.

    33. Wow, those joints are so amazing! I love the way the arms and legs look, and they look like they pose so well! Are the arms and legs you made the same length as the SD ones?

    34. I haven't got originals to compare with, but I think they are a little longer; the arms maybe 5-10 mm longer and the legs probably 15-20mm longer.

    35. Those hands are pretty!

    36. Another small update: still some final polishiong and touchups, but I have taken pictures and measurements of all the parts and sent away for quotes. Hopefully someone will get back to me by the time I get back from holidays in a week's time:)

    37. Wow- these are to die for! I love the fact that they are more posable and (in my opinion >>) more aesthetically pleasing then the regular sd10... limbs.
I also don't know too much about volks, but is there a huge difference between volks oldskin and "normal skin"?
Sorry to bother you with so many questions, but do the legs create any height difference compared to a normal SD10 body?

    38. Glad you like them:) Oldskin and pureskin are very similar, although pureskin is a teeeeeny bit translucent.. has a more waxy appearance. They match well enough that you won't notice a difference unless you know its there.

I think the legs are a bit longer than the original legs, I don't have any as I bought my torso as just a torso.

    39. Twigling, your work is amazing!!! i've been always wondering why those kind of solutions (like yours or Dollstown's with Soph's knees) are not more popular amongst the BJDs makers!
      waiting for updates...

    40. Well, I am still wrangling quotes, but hopefully I will know more soon-soon-soon. I have some rough pricing estimates, but will hold onto it untill I decide who to go with. There will be a special introductory (lower) price for the people who get in the first order, because I need to fill a minimum of 25 slots to cover costs, otherwise the project will not go ahead. Also if people want BW resin, I need to order at least 10 sets of it ~ I am assuming most people will want NS, but I know some has asked for BW.

I added some detailing to the thighs and lower arms, which looks good. I also found the screw-eyes I need on eBay and bought 600 of them; that should do me for some time. Plus I have found a retailer that sells high quality doll-elastic which I will be including in the sets, along with the screw-eyes/eyescrews. This elastic is hard & strong, has a higher count of elastic filaments inside the woven tube and costs a bit more, but I think its worth shelling out for quality, especially when it does so much to improve the stability/poseability of the doll.

Tomorrow I am hoping to spackle all the little pits, and do a final sanding, then after the weekend I will sandblast the pieces to get a nice velvety texture, and then its picture time. Hopefully by then I will have everything ready to set up the sale post on DoA and wherever.

In the meantime I have been working on the torso for my full-doll project, which is coming along really well, still has no boobs, and untill it does I won't be posting any pictures. After that, of course I will need to start on a face, so if anyone has any requests/suggestions/wishes/inspirations for what she might look like, I am listening. I have some vague idea of the eye-shape and the nose, but that is about it. I am looking at doing a young face... late teens to mid-twenties, and possibly more masculine looking when compared to what is already out there. I intend for it to be a girl, but I know people like to gender-bend and frankenstein their dolls (I know I do, at least).

    41. I think you will easily find 25 people, but perhaps that is just my opinion. I can't wait until everything comes to fruition. You've just done such a nice job on these limbs! I'm sure your torso will turn out rather spectacular as well. :)

    42. Your work is amazing ^^

Will it be possible to order just a pair of legs or will you only be selling as a full set of arms and legs?

    43. I can probably work out splits. I have one other person on my waitlist who only needs arms, so in your case yes you can have the remaining legs from that set.

Thanks you!! I'm hoping that will be the case ;)

    44. O.O!

You are bloody BRILLIANT with those joints! Genius with the design! ( Wish I coulda thought of it! XD )

    45. In that case, can I be put on the waiting list for those legs??

My doll is going to be able to stand! yay! But I have to wait a while before he can...aww.

Do you have a rough estimation of how much you will charge yet?

    46. Untill I get the final quote (still waiting for ), the numbers are still up in the air, but the introductory price for a full set of Limbs (including eyescrews and elastic) will be around $200 + shipping (will organise to split the costs between arms and legs fairly). Compared to going to Torrance Sumika, where you could get arms, legs, hands and feet for a total of $318 ~ that's if all the parts you need are still in stock; add tax, shipping and shopping fee as well if you can't go in person, and remember that the Volks oldskin parts are the reason I embarked on this project in the first place, they don't have the same level of poseability.

I have put your name down for the legs... you want normal skin, right?

    47. $200, considering that these are your individual work and that they work well, not to mention the amount of resin a large doll's limbs take, seems like a very reasonable price. I'm wondering if you'll be covering your costs. Hopefully you'll sell enough to!

      Yep normal skin please ^^

    48. It is very reasonable, especially since there are so many heads (even standards) going for that much. I am really looking forward to getting my torso out of its box finally (that sounds odd XD)

    49. White skin for me please. Come on 10 sets.

    50. Those are the most beautiful hands I've seen!!! Wow!!! And bigger than CP but smaller than Hound -- sounds perfect. Do you have a waiting list going for them? I'd like to be on it if you do.

    51. Bump, orders are now being taken here. Be quick, limited numbers!!

    52. Is there a slot on the bottom half of the hip ball-thing? *researching*

You're awesome, by the way :abow:

    53. Yes, there is:) And thank you;)

    54. Bump for torso pics in first post!!

    55. WOW!! I'm glad I had to wait for the LIMBS afterall! :D I can't wait to see the torso with a set of limbs attached. Great work Twig!

    56. oh the torso is beautiful- I am so kicking myself.

    57. THAT is a beautiful torso! o _ o I want to see all the parts! Eeeks!

    58. Oh well, you didn't know (I didn't either...) know when you bought your B04 that I was going to be offering this.

    59. twigling, you are so damn talented...

    60. Speak for yourself, Karla!!;)
