Faceups Triple faceup - gaining experience

May 23, 2021

    1. Notes and photos from faceups three through five.

I had a few girls with blank faces and acquired the needed safety equipment to use spray sealant responsibly. So I decided to do three faceups at once. Mostly in an attempt to catch up while I wait for dolls on layaway/on order, and also to save on MSC.

The dolls from left to right: Doll Leaves Lan, Iplehouse Faline, and Mystic Kids Evelyn.
      First coat of sealant applied.

Lan's first layer of color. Head stand assembled from a ceramic toothbrush holder covered in cling wrap, a wide barrel marker, and poster putty/museum tack. [IMG]Lan face-up first layers by M Collier, on Flickr

Mystic Kids Evelyn faceup early stage. Phone camera is washing out the color a bit. [IMG]Mystic Kids Evelyn faceup early stage by M Collier, on Flickr

Faline with pastels finished and moving on to the eyebrows. [IMG]Faline with eyebrows by M Collier, on Flickr
Everyone with eyebrows, final colors, and shiny accents. Eyelashes matched up and ready to install. [IMG]Shiny accents by M Collier, on Flickr

And Faline with her outfit and wig: [IMG]Forest spirit 2 by M Collier, on Flickr

And Lan with her finshed faceup and wig, and a temporary outfit. [IMG]Unicorn dreams 2 by M Collier, on Flickr

    2. these are super awesome and added so much life to them! good job, and keep going!

if there's any constructive criticism i can provide, it's just that the details seem a little light, you might want to add more layers, but i'm sure it'll come with further confidence!

    3. Thank you! The camera is washing them out a bit but I am happy with the amount of color saturation that shows up in person. Glad to hear that they look lifelike : )
Generally speaking, personally for myself, if I want constructive criticism I will ask during project so I can change stuff before everything is sealed and finalized. Thank you again for the thoughts and compliments!

    10. Thank you very much : )

    11. Is your Lan Amalthea?

Really lovely work-- your style has a warm and gentle dreaminess that works really well with all three heads, bringing out their individual looks, and this lineup shows how well that translates to very different sculpts with different levels/types of stylization!

    12. Yes she is. :3nodding: Well spotted! The Lan sculpt from certain angles is just perfect for that sort of otherworldly, slightly lanky charm from the animated movie.

Thank you very much : ) It's really interesting getting used to the differences from a 2-D canvas to a 3-D one. And much respect to the artists who make the sculpts!
