Hello everyone! I don't even want to know how many opened project journals I have. This time it is for Fa'auea, my Dollstown Elysia on Twigling Ingenue body. She is in progress since *cough* 2012 *cough*. I've recently seen wonderful dolls outfits on another forum, and it gives me the will to begin Fa'auea's outfit. I don't think it will be wonderful - I'm a very bad seamstress- but I hope it will be nice enough. What I'd like to do: Aesthetics To Do: faceup (first done in 2012, new done on 03/29/2022) tattoos blush manicure (2 pairs, first pair finished on 03/29/2022) Crafting To Do: wig (finished in 2012) bird helmet/mask (finished on 26-03-2023) outfit #1 (finished on 03-29-2021) javelin shield outfit #2 (in progress) For the outfit I've already made three necklaces, a wrap skirt, two bracelets, armlets and gaiters (well, gaiters might not be the right word, but I don't know how to name it). I also want to make a raffia skirt and a leather 'belt'. The wrap skirt in making: by Follow-the-Wind, on Flickr The wrap skirt done: by Follow-the-Wind, on Flickr The wrap skirt + the gaiters: by Follow-the-Wind, on Flickr The two first necklaces : by Follow-the-Wind, on Flickr The three necklaces together and the armlets (sorry the photos is a little blurred): by Follow-the-Wind, on Flickr I've recieved my raffia today, to I've already begin the raffia skirt. Pictures soon!
Ohhhhh my goodness. This is already stunning. What you've made just has so much visual impact. I cannot wait to see the continuation of your work.
Are you really a crafter if you don't have 15 million projects going on at the same time? Lol Love her outfit so far. Everything is so perfectly to scale. Sewing and outfit design is a skillset I wish I had!
Very cool detailing! I like the face up a lot, are you going to keep it the same in terms of design or completely re-do it?
Oh wow! I love this so much!! Do you have any specific clothing you were referencing, or did you come up with all this on your own??
Thank you very much! Thank you! It's all that jewellery that give details :') Hahaha! That's right! Then I'm a real crafter XD I'm very bad at sewing, but this outfit is more DIY than sewing. Thank you very much! Thank you! For the faceup, the day I'll find the courage, I'll redo a similar design, but not completely the same. Thank you! Thank you very much! I have clothing references. I've little imagination when it comes to outfits. I did a quick research for 'african warriors' and choose bits and pieces that please me in what I've found. I've worked on the raffia skirt and I've made a goatskin! And the leather 'belt' is in progress. Here some WIP : And some pictures of what the outfit currently looks like: by Follow-the-Wind, on Flickr The goatskin is not very well done but it will do the job.
Everything is looking so fantastic! The raffia adds a great touch to the whole look, and the little water pouch is such a nice touch. UGH... this makes me want to re-learn how to make props and embellishments to my dolls. =_=;
The outfit is amazing! I love how it shows off the beautiful twigling body.... I need to plan an outfit for my incoming Elbe; you definitely inspired me!
Thank you very much! I'm happy if that inspired you for making props and so on again! Thank you very much! This body deserves to be shown, it is so beautiful. I've more or less finished this outfit! I have removed a part of it (the beige-grey long fabric with beads) because it didn't look nice with the belt. I have sewed a sort of underwear to replace it (because it was this that covered her groin, and I dislike when my dolls are naked under their skirt/dress/ wrap-skirt XD ). I've also painted the bird false skulls. Here are two quick pictures of Fa'auea in her brand new outfit: I need to work again on the belt, it's a little too large. I'll try to take more pictures tomorrow, as it's too dark now for proper pictures. /!\ I'd like to remind that this doll's character lives in a steampunk universe, she is NOT from a civilisation or an other from our world and our time. She is a fantasy gal and her customization comes from various inspirations (maori, african, indonesian etc).
Long time without news! This year I will try to redo Fa'auea's faceup. But not today. Today I begin her mask/helmet/thing! It's inspired by Bali mask, bali bird mask to be precise.
I 'm finally redoing this girl's faceup! I was so scared to redo it. I decided to change the pattern of her facial tattoo. I heard comments about her previous one being disrespectful towards maori, so I made something more fantasy, inspired both by parts of her previous facial tattoo and by imaginary motives (inspired by @Zun 's work, with her authorization). It still looks very maori, but it isn't copied from existing maori's ta moko. It is still in progress, I have brows and eyelashes to paint, plus work a little more on the blush.
Wow she is so beautiful. A real piece of art. I barley see dark skin bjd dolls who are actually inspired by african culture, really nice
Wow that it drop dead gorgeous. I can't imagine the patience that goes in behind detail work like that
Thank you so much for your kind comment! Thank you very much! And you're welcome, I like to share what I do on my dolls Today a work in progress of both my Bali mask for my Dollstown Elysia and the dragon skull headress for my Les Enfants Terribles Ryan. I hope to make the mold for the Bali mask next week, at a friend's home (and with her help, as she is far more expert than me in mold making and resin casting XD). I would love to make it for the dragon skull too, but it is still unfinished and I have only 3 days left to complete it . Maybe next time I will show you a resin sample of my Bali mask? I really hope so!
News from the Garuda! Here is one last picture of the prototype: First resin sample! Picture by my friend who cast them for me: And painting in progress: Currently teeth are still missing, they are not casted yet.
This has got to be one of the coolest designs. I have always had this thing for the tribal look and you have done it perfectly. The amount of detail put into this is incredible!
Thank you @Gwandak ! I finally finished this Garuda for my Elysia! I'm pretty happy of how it turned. Now I'd like to do an other outfit for her
Wow... I love everything about your design, from the details of the faceup to the outfit and the mask. Stunning!
Thank you so much! Thank you very much ^_^ I've started a new outfit for this tall girl! Something more colorful this time. I don't know if it will be nice in the end, but currently I'm having fun on it.
Ooooh.... okay, this time you've really surpassed yourself, like so, so much. How did I miss this project before? I can only think of one word: goddess. You've taken a face and a body to be worshipped even nude and turned it into something incredible. I can't believe no BJD brand has offered you a spot as a designer as of yet, to be honest. That mask!!! Completely floored.
Thank you so much for your kind words, @Mandagore ! I'm flattered, but you know, I'm so slow in building a doll's custo that no one would bear my slowness. This one is in progress since 2011 and still uncompleted. I like to jump from on doll to another, so they all progress slowly. (Aside from time to time, when I wake up wanting to finished quickly one doll' customization XD) edit to add a pic of the outfit still in progress: by Follow-the-Wind, on Flickr
@Follow-the-Wind I understand, but as a designer you could get away just delivering the design sketches for your creations. Your drones would do all the manual work of the actual customization for you. Doesn't that sound nice?
