In sculpture class, we were given a project to make a tool that didn’t already exist. I had a doll show to go to this past weekend, so I wanted to make something that could carry a doll safely. Unfortunately, I didn’t complete it soon enough for the convention (I only had worked on it for 2 days), but I did get a prototype completed. I would change a lot and get a bigger bag, as the only way Bee could fit was if she was sitting. Still, for my second time working with wood, I think I did okay. I’d like it to not only be bigger (which would require a bigger backpack), but less messy. I didn’t know how to get out my mis-shot brad nail, so it’s kinda there being ugly. Her clothing is in the drawers. Traveling Doll House by Sammu C, on Flickr Here is a really quick time lapse of it.
Dude....there are no words for how cool that is....absolutly love this. Do you plan on continuing with it and improving it?
Awesome job. Would also be sure to sand smooth the rough areas around the edge. Maybe use a rubber tube cut length wise and glue to the edge for a bumper to protect doll and the backpack too. Also nothing wrong with doll sitting, maybe pockets instead for containers for clothes and wig to be in backpack instead of drawers.
Thank you! Yeah, it’s a little rough all around. But, it’s better than I thought it would end up being so I’m pleased. If I redo it this way, I want to paint it or cover the wood completely.
Yes! My critique in class today went really well and I got some feedback from my professor and the woodshop tech. They can help me smooth it out. I’d also like to make a “trunk” style carrying case that would allow for two MSD sized dolls, but still keeping it like a little portable house. I will post more photos when I make improvements!
Wow, this is such a great idea! I wish we had cool school projects like this Because you say there's not enough space: You could make two small drawers to put on the left and right side. That way your doll could stand in the middle and would have more space Just an idea though
It was a very open first project in my sculpture class. We didn't always get fun projects :p And, yeah, there's a lot I would do differently now but that's a good idea
I love this idea! Adding it to my forever-growing list of "things I want to try but will probably never manage"
Woah this is so cool! I've been torn between making a room and a carrier, but this is such a neat in between!
