Shipping Tracking a USPS parcel from United States to United Kingdom?

Oct 17, 2008

    1. Hiya,
I am getting rather worried about my parcel that was sent from the US on saturday, it is now the following friday and USPS is still coming up with this old chestnut:

"The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on October 10, 2008 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later. "

I then enter the tracking no into the parcelforce website and get:

"We are currently unable to confirm that status of your parcel. Please check the number and try again. Please note that items sent over 4 months ago cannot be tracked online. If you are tracking a parcel sent from outside of the UK, we may not have received it yet. Please try again or use the help button below."

So, I was wondering what there was that I could do and whether this was normal, I have emailed the seller and asked her to put a trace on the parcel (I think I heard that was possible) but other than that I feel rather powerless :...(

Any help would be much appreciated!

      Thank you so very much!!!

      Bev

      EDIT

it is now monday morning, and still no updates so I was wondering how one would go about tracing the parcel, ie. who needs to be spoken to and what information needs to be in hand? Also, how likely is it that they will be able to trace it?

      Thank you again!!!

    2. I have had 2 parcels before coming from the USA, both sent same day, 1 sowed up about 4 days before the other and they both came the same way from same area, so I woudnt worry to much, im sure its ok :)

    3. Thank you, its a little of a relief but I am still insanely worried though and any more insights would be much appreciated.

      Bev

    4. I think postal services screw up like this all the time. I have a package that was mailed from Spain on 10/9 and was supposed to be here in a week, but neither websites are tracking it. It really sucks but I would wait another week before you start panicking. Sheesh, an Unoa! I would be antsy to get her too!

    5. Thanks pearls! Have you any updates on your parcel yet?
So, its monday and no information, I did ask the seller to trace it over the weekend but she just asked the usps website to send me exactly the same thing as I get when I input the tracking no :sweat
So I was wondering what had to be done?
      Thank you so very much!!
      Bev

    6. put the code into the parcel force website....mine was handed by USPS to them and I was able to track it through there.
      .....horrible customs fee on it....-grumble-

    7. I've done that but unfortunately to no avail :( Thanks anyway ^_^ they just tell me that dont have the information, and that it may not have been handed over to them :barf

CJ299641966US thats the tracking no if it helps anyone ^_^

Sorry to hear about your customs fee, I hope it isnt too much!!

    8. arg...it was around £30 (£13.50 of which added by parcel force).....But there is another parcel on the way to me now which I HOPE shall escape customs. I truly hope you resolve this....it can be very stressful.

    9. I've had parcels take more than 2 weeks to get to me and I've also had one received three days after it was sent!! So I wouldn't panic yet, I remember panicking about my Moona, but she did arrive... eventually...

    10. Tabathathorn: Ack!! Thats a damn rip off that!! Un, that 13.50 is a "handling fee" right? I never understood how they could charge people for calculating their charges :|
Thank you, I too hope it can be resolved soon, I am going to france at the weekend and really hoped that she would be with me before then :...(

      Kayjay:

Thank you, its good to know that your Moona arrived safely ^_^ I think the thing that is worrying me is that I have no updates and she hasnt been put on the system either so she is in effect in limbo, and it is taking quite a while so I have literally no way of finding out whether she is safe :(

    11. well my fingers are crossed for you....I do hope it arrives before the weekend. My parcel I am waiting on has now "left its country of origin and is Handed over"...please NOT to customs....but yes...what a complete rip off! makes me LIVID

    12. Cheers Tabatha, lol, I am insanely worried. Thing is, were I to need to contact usps via their website I couldnt, as I dont have a US postcode *bangs head against wall* :|
Ooohh, fingers crossed to no customs for you!!!! What are you waiting for lol, just being nosey

    13. USPS tracking is very, very slow. I wouldn't worry about it unless the package hasn't shown up in the tracking system for another couple of days.

Putting a trace on it is something the sender would have to do, and it's generally not something the post office lets you do unless the package is very overdue (we're talking weeks) already.

    14. Yikes, I'd be anxious too! But USPS tracking is notoriously unhelpful, unfortunately.:sweat I've given up trying to rely upon it, since I will usually receive my item before the tracking is updated. I know it doesn't help your anxiety at all, but it truly is a waiting game until your parcel gets out of the USPS system and into one that's more reliable with the tracking.:doh

    15. a dollzone YUU...I am so excited...I really am...and I understand how you feel...if it was my doll...I would be insanely worried!!! you are not insane to be insanely worried!
I am sure it will all work out fine for you though ...really.

    16. USPS is like EMS. I use a tracking site called track-trace www.track-trace.com and I track via EMS/USPS. It'll usually take you to the shipping company's page and give you this info. However I found that with USPS it was pretty lame with the updates even though it did tell me full details about where it was.

    17. Chibaraki: Thank you for the info, just for future reference, how does the sender initiate the trace?

Poohki: Yes, I have heard of the troubles but never had it happen to me before. I think the thing that worries me most is that she obviously hasnt been received our end as parcelforce hasnt updated either, so I feel at a loss as there is very little I can do. Thank you, I shall wait a couple of more days methinks and hope that things move along ^_^

Tabatha: Ahh lol you have great taste!!! My first BJD was a DZ Yuu and I still have him :D He is truely gorgeous ^_^ I am sure that you will be extatic with him :D
Thank you, cross your fingers :)

BlueEyedSeth: Thanks for the site, I tried it an unfortunatly they say the same thing :( but I shall keep checking ^_^

      General update:

Nothing happening on either website as of yet, but the day is still young, although I think I am aging by the second worrying lol...

    18. oh you poor dear...like me you are probably rushing to the window if you hear a noise HOPING it is that blasted red van.......
ah...the YUU....no nicer beings on the planet. He will be called Heath. and I simply cant wait.
ok....we have our fingers crossed for each other...something good has got to happen SOON!

    19. Lol, no, unfortunatly I am at work, which makes it even worse, got to keep phoning my mother to see if she has arrived at home!! Lol, I have learnt from previous times only to do so at lunch though

Definately!! What skin tone is yours? And is yours on the new body?
He is definately a very expressive sculpt but a bugger to photograph haha!!!

Here's hoping something good happens to both of us!!

    20. USPS is pretty useless with tracking; if it wasnt so cheap i would never use it...Ive had package within the sates sent to me and the site didnt update until AFTER I recieved my items. But boy have i heard stories about customs. Thats one thing in enjoy is the states dont charge that, but I feel your pain!

    21. How was your parcel sent? If it was EMS, I would contact your seller and have it tracked now. If it was sent airmail, I wouldn't worry yet. In my experience airmail packages don't really go anywhere over the weekends.

Are you certain your seller put it in the mail when the tracking number was generated? That message is generated when you buy postage over the internet, not when you drop the box off at the post office. If the seller couldn't drop it off for a couple of days, then it will take that much longer to get anywhere. USPS is supposed to scan the package when they get it in the door, but my local branch never does this unless I stand over them and watch, so packages from me sometimes don't get logged into the system until they hit another major mail center.

    22. It was sent priority mail on 11 october 2008.
Yes, it was posted the day after the tracking no was generated (tracking no generated on 10 oct). I am 99.99% sure that she has sent it out, she sent out a Lusis on the same day as my Sist but the Lusis was sent EMS, and the lady with the Lusis has had the tracking updated and arrived in the country (she is waiting on customs charges). So I have no reason to believe that my Sist wasnt sent out.
      The tracking no is: CJ29 9641 966U S

I perhaps wouldnt be so worried were it traceable on the parcelforce website but it seems that the parcel is somewhere in limbo.

I dont even know how the seller would go about tracing the parcel, and I dont think she does either, so if anyone could tell me I would be really grateful!

      Thank you ^_^

    23. I keep checking hoping your girl has arrived safely. There's obviously been a mishap in the system with tracking, but that doesn't mean she won't get to you. I hope she arrives very soon for you x

    24. I wouldn't worry hugely on it yet, in my experience, USPS will take their sweet time over updating, and parcelfarce won't recognise the number until the parcel is actually on UK soil.

From the dates you gave, it was taken in at the post office on a saturday, so it won't have left that post office until the monday morning's pick up. Then it will have gone to the nearest international hub, which can take anywhere up to a week, before being marked for the UK and sorted accordingly. From there, it will have had to wait for the next available crate on a plane, again, that can be anywhere from instantly to a week, and then onto a flight. Once they get to the UK, they're not sorted instantly, the delay in checking them in is usually only a day or two tho, and only THEN would parcelfarce show the tracking number as valid, and give you a UK number for the box.

Essentially, it was posted on the saturday, went to the hub Monday, probably didn't get there till the thursday of the following week (16th or so), sat there till the friday, MAYBE got sorted but unlikely before the weekend, in which case it sat there till yesterday before MAYBE hitting a plane today, in which case, if you're lucky, it MIGHT make it to you before the end of this week.

    25. well...I have ordered normal and I am not sure if that is yellow or pink.
same about the body...I was just too eager to own one I just ordered him!
I suspect he is the older type though.
I can't see past the YUU...they are so wonderfully beautiful. Is that your one in your avatar?
alas.......parcel force page today reads......in customs awaiting charges...:doh
I do hope you have better luck than me today...as I now know he will not be here anytime soon....

    26. Kayjay: Thank you, I hope that she arrives soon!

Lulu: Thank you, that has helped to ease the insanity a little ^_^ Lol, I have until the end of the week before I can go mad haha!!
When they say 10 days is that datewise or business days?

      Tabatha:

Hmm, not sure, in my experience yellow is awesome and I have heard that pink is cool too so you win either way :D
Ooohhh cool, the older type (like mine) are lovely ^_^
Yes, lol that is mine, I am afraid it is a crappy picture but I did take it with my old VGA phone camera lol! Will have to take a better one soon ^_^
      His name is Hiro XD

Aww, well no such luck yet, no updates or anything...so thank the gods that you know where yours is, even if there is a ransom :( But I do hope that it isnt too much!!!

      Gen update:

No tracking update as of yet, neither on parcelforce nor USPS so is still a waiting game :...(

    27. well even in that phone picture he is beautiful...but yes...take more!! I love to look at yuu pictures!
I think I would like yellow...I have seen that and it gives a slight impression of tan...without being tan....but yes! never seen an ugly yuu!:aheartbea
I know....I actually do feel fortunate to know he is here..even with the ransom...I would hate to be in your situation you poor thing...I am sending happy vibes your way and hoping you hear something soon.....like TODAY!
I am a most impatient person...i don't do waiting well...so I am really, really sorry for you.
      fingers firmly crossed!

    28. That'll be "business" days...which basically means Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday because parcelfarce seems to do very VERY little with boxes either end of a weekend.

    29. Lulu:
Thanks for that ^_^ haha, USPS are a busy lot, huh? :|

I has good news! I checked parcelforce a little while ago and she is finally on English soil!!! Phew! She is just listed as accepted and at the international hub so it remains to be seen as to whether she will get customs charges...she should be valued at $100 so I hope not! :sweat

Thanks to all of you and I will endevour to update the thread when she has arrived home!! :)

    30. That's great news! Hopefully it'll sail through customs ;)

    31. I second that!

    32. Thank you both ^_^
She is in progress apparantly and is "sorted in hub" *_*
I have never had that come up before, anyone know whats next and whether she will get to me tomorrow?
Or are they planning to get me with the dreaded customs?

    33. well...mine is sorted in hub and I phoned parcel force and they say....He could be here tomorrow!!! that is AFTER customs!!
      get yer dancing shoes on....

    34. I tracked your package on www.usps.com.

    37. I searched for a thread which explains USPS tracking but found nothing :?

      I've just got this message:

      Label/Receipt Number: ************
      Associated Label/Receipt:
      Detailed Results:
[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] Acceptance, February 28, 2009, 10:30 am, GROTON, CT 06340 [IMG] Electronic Shipping Info Received, February 24, 2009

I have NO IDEA what this means, and can't find anything useful!

Can someone at least give me a slight idea of what's happened...!?

    38. That the USPS office in Groton, CT has received the shipping info for the package on Feb 24th electronically (this means that via the internet they were told to expect a package), and they actually accepted the package on Feb 28th in the morning at their facility (this means it was actually dropped off at the post office this day).

More info: They only update at night, and not on Sundays. Also, once it leaves the country, it will not be tracked on this site, you will have to use the number on the UK site.

    39. Ah, so it's just started it's journey to me now...?

OK! Thanks for all the info >w<!

I guess I'll be waiting for him a while longer, huh xD?

    40. Well, it depends. Was the orginal location the person was shipping from Groton, CT? If it is, than it has just started its journey. However, if it was somewhere else it is from, than it is already making its way across the states. But please rememnber, that USPS is super slow at updating, but when it does update the dates it gives you are right on. ^_^
Also, if USPS says it has left the US and the UK post site has not updated, it means it is probably in customs.

Hope you get your package soon!

    41. Hi all :)

I'm having a bit of a problem with a parcel that's been shipped to me in England via USPS. The parcel has to be here by next Saturday (I'm moving), which the seller told me would be fine as she was shipping Priority which takes 6-10 days. However, my tracking thing says:

Date Time Location Tracking Event [IMG]

16-06-2009 05:16 Delivery Agent - SAN FRANCISCO Left origin country

11-06-2009 06:03 Delivery Agent - UNITED STATES AMERICA Coll

So it's been in the air for 4 days already? When I've had packages shipped from America before they've taken one, maybe two days to get from country to country.. it's been a week and I'm not even sure if this box is here or not! I'm a bit concerned it's gone missing or something, so if anyone could let me know if this is normal I'd appreciate it :) If not, please tell me if there's anything I can do to get the package's whereabouts checked!

    42. It could be in England already, but the priority number often doesn't work once it leaves the country. As I've been told, only the Express Mail (EMS) and registered numbers are guaranteed to work outside the country. Priority can be hit or miss. If she gave you the customs slip number, try that. You're not supposed to track via the customs slip, but sometimes it will give you the status.

    43. Ah, ok... so it's possible it has arrived and I've just not been told? Brilliant news! (Although a bit worrying I have to guess where the box is once it's arrived!)

      Thanks!

    44. USPS tracking has been delayed a lot lately. It is probably in the UK by now.

    45. At certain points in time (if it's through registered or ems), the tracking number will start to work in your own country's postal system. I've found that as soon as it enters the country, if it's registered, then I'm only able to track through Canada Post. :)

    46. Ok, so should I get updates through Parcel force's website, do you think?

    47. You should. I would try it at least.

    48. Ok, it finally updated: looks like it was just on the SLOWEST PLANE EVER (or a boat) as it took 6 days to get here: fingers crossed I'll get my box tomorrow!

      Thanks for the help all!

    49. yep, that happens at times, you are lucky, I have a package on the way from California, should take 8 days? well it has been tht and still the tracking says it was accepted on the 13th in california and that is ALL, I mean really how hard is it to get a box to New York?

Congrats that your darling arrived safe and sound

    50. I'll never forget the time a parcel post box of mine took almost 3 weeks to go to a friend who only lives about 20 miles away.....

    51. :sweat:lol: Lol, you should have asked them to employ you to take it there: it would have been faster AND cheaper!

    52. I am not overly optimistic about tracking numbers anymore. Its definitely a good way of proving you registered something and that its sent (you can tell the difference as it will say scanned or scanned and sent out, or some variation). Its definitely good for easing a buyers mind. But for all the times I have used a tracking number its basically gone from "Sent from x location on x day" to doing absolutely nothing for days then suddenly the package is on my doorstep before delivery date and I look online and it will suddenly have all the info updated along with "delivered".

I check them daily and its rare that I get updates of where it is, just that its sent and then the day its delivered everything shows up. Most frustrating one was a comforter I was returning. It didnt even say it was sent out and it said it was scanned and sitting in my local post office for 3 weeks! Checked it daily, even went down there and they said they didnt have it, and the next day I check the number and there are 3 updated scan locations and a delivered status.

    53. I hear you, I once mailed two packages. The one to Canada took a week, the one to Texas took almost three weeks! I could have practically WALKED there in that time.. ahhh the joys of the mail.

    54. I've been tracking my tracking number on both parcelforce & usps, but the tracking hasn't changed.

Should i get worried that it could be lost? Or is it just USPS being slow?

    55. I wouldn't be worried just yet. :) It left the US just a couple of days ago and it'll take time to be updated in its country of origin. If there's no update in 2 or 3 days, I'd start calling your local customs place and post office for updates.

    56. Thanks for answering^^
Although i had another doll come from the america and the tracking was fast.

    57. EMS usually gets trapped in customs and updates during delivery. Just give it a few days.

    58. And also, the USPS has had some budget cuts and shut down some sorting centers as a result.
I can't tell for sure if that has had an effect on much shipping, but it is a possibility.

And even though it may say "Processed through sort facility," but sometimes it randomly lies, too. ;)

    59. EMS is also generally much faster than Express Mail, it's possible your other parcel was sent EMS which would explain why the tracking updated more quickly. Still, I wouldn't start worrying until the tracking hasn't updated for over a week - I've had parcels suddenly arrive the following day after a fortnight of apparent non-moving. Bear in mind also that HMRC and Parcelfarce are notoriously useless at correctly tracking our mail, so there's nothing to worry about just yet. Whatever your item is will have to go through customs, which is probably where it's sitting now.

    60. Honestly, I have been surprised by how slowly EMS has been moving here in the States.

I have two packages in transit at the moment, one incoming to me and one from me going overseas. It took almost 72 hours from the time my incoming package cleared customs in Los Angeles to make it to my door in Las Vegas. In the past, this has always been done in 24 hours from the time the package was out of customs (Sundays & holidays excluded, of course).

It also took an unheard of 4 days for my outgoing backage to get from Vegas to on a plane in LA. Customs time was not an issue. It was in and out of customs in less than 4 hours. This is actual mail transport time.

I have no idea what the hold-up is, but it's been very laggy, for me anyway.
