I know many of you touch up your photos in photoshop before you post them, but what do you actually do? o.o What actual tools and techniques do you rely on to make your photos look all nifty? ~le photoshop n00b. XD;
What sort of touching up are you interested in? Like, glowy effects, color/light correction, resin correction, etc. etc?
pixel2life.com has some tutorials under photoshop that might help you get the feel of using photoshop. :3
Which version of Photoshop do you have? Are you using Photoshop Elements or Photoshop CS2 (or older version)?
tsuyogari: Any and all of the above. I'd like to play around with a variety of effects. ^^; batchix: Thanks for the link. I'll go check it out! nikita: I'm using Photoshop 7.0, actually.
If you're talking about touchups, I can give you the "flow" of events I do to make my photos more presentable. Remember, the last step should ALWAYS be resizing your image. If you're editing out tiny things (like stray hairs) you want the image to be as big as possible. 1) I correct the lighting. I start by using Levels. I'll try Auto Levels out first, but if I don't like that I'll undo it and do the normal manual version of Levels. Most of the time Levels takes care of any contrast issues, but if I have more I play with Curves. Curves is hard to explain unless you've been using Photoshp for a while, but if you play with it I'm sure you'll get it. 2) Next, I correct the color. Auto Color never works well for me; it always casts a green tint on everything. So I use Color Balance. Once the hues look true to life, I'll sometimes use Hue/Saturation to saturate or desaturate the colors. 3) I get the eyeless socket syndrome with my girl occasionally, so I'll sometimes use the Dodge tool on her eyes. This lightens the area so that you can see the eye better. It's really easy to overdo this, however. You'll know you have if the eyes start to look posessed XD. 4) I hate stray hairs, so I'll use the Smudge tool to get rid of them. Some people will use the Clone Stamp tool, but it doesn't work as well in more detailed areas (like the eyes!). I usually set the strength to 50%. This can take a lot of work, so be patient! That's all I can think of at the moment. If I think of any more things I usually do, I'll try to post them.
