Two MYOU dolls I've been waiting for arrived today, and they're absolutely gorgeous! Their face-ups are beautiful, but I notice that the gloss on the bottom lip of one of the dolls doesn't cover the whole lip and is very obvious. I was wondering if applying a new layer of gloss would help fix it, or if it would be better to leave it alone and accept it. Is there anything I should keep in mind? Thank you!
If you are not experienced with face ups and don't mind the rest of the lip becoming glossier, I recommend to gloss the entire lips again. You may see the demarcation line slightly between the previously unglossed area and the glossed area, but I think it's easier to get it looking nice than spot treating. If you have done face ups confidently and have face up supplies, you can remove the eyelashes, seal the head to make the lips matte again, then gloss the whole lips to your liking.
Yes, you can gloss the entire lip how you like and shouldn't have any problems. Unless the original gloss was like a super thick layer, you probably won't see a line where the old gloss ended. If you need to paint a second coat for maximum shine, let the first layer completely dry first. Do you have any gloss yet? If you need to buy some, make sure it's acrylic "varnish", not "medium". Medium is for mixing with paints, whereas varnish is for putting on top of paint and is more durable. Liquitex sells one called "medium and varnish" but that is a lie and it doesn't behave well as a varnish.
I've had a doll arrive from faceup only to find the lips woefully under-glossed. I was able to apply a new coat over the entire lips without any problem.
Thanks everyone! I'll try touching it up when I gather the confidence. I have a practice head, so I'll try it on that first! I do have a gloss varnish! I only just started attempting face-ups and haven't finished one yet, but I have the materials and did some research on that. The layer of gloss on her lips is pretty thick, so I'm expecting to see a line once I try touching it up, but I'll just try and hope for the best.
