Topstiching in small seams?

Aug 26, 2005

    1. Help. XD I want to make my doll jeans more accurate - but I cant figure out how the hell to topstitch the outside seam since it is the last one done. @_@;;; Only thing I can think of is doing it before and sewing very accurately (just for appearance), or hand sewing it afterward...

    2. Actually, if you look at people jeans, it's usually the inner leg seam that's flat felled and top stitched, and the outer seams are just a normal seam. That's the way the jeans I'm wearing right now are.

If you really want to topstich the outer seams, don't do them last. Leave the front seam (after the fly is put in) because it's short and the inner seams. Do the outer seam, topstitch it, do the front seam and topstitch it if you can get in there, then do the inner seams just normal.

    3. Plenty of people jeans have the outseam flat-felled and the inseams sewn & serged to finish them. Look at your own jeans & decide if they match a look you want.

It is theoretically possible to flat-fell both seams, and the crotch seams to boot, but I wouldn't much like to try it on full-sized people jeans, much less doll-scale. *_*

Definately put on back pockets before the jeans are fully assembled, so you can work flat.

    4. If you want to topsitch the outside leg seam (from the hip down the leg-not from the crotch (inseam) down the leg) do this:

Sew back pockets on each back piece.

Sew front pockets on or if not using pockets, do topstitching to look like pockets.

Sew one back piece to one front piece at the outer side seam (hip to ankle). You now have a back and front in one piece. Press seam flat and topstich.
Repeat with remaining front & back.

Then sew both pieces, right sides together, at the inner leg seam. You now have jeans in one piece. You can finish fly or whatever opening you choose and attach waistband.

      Is that what you meant?
