I'm affectionally calling this hat the "Toadwarts Beret" cuz of my chosen color. I wanted to challenge myself to a simple design beyond a plain, stockinette beret. I'm so happy with how it turned out! If anyone follows this pattern, feel free to post pictures in the comments or to Instagram. You can tag me as @lully.lullers :3 Sized for: Fairyland Littlefee dolls with a wig on, about 7.5" circumference. Can work for other YoSD sized dolls and some small headed MSD dolls. (Shown on Littlefee Cygne) Materials needed: • Fingering Weight yarn • US size 2 circular needles • Needle for weaving in ends • Optional stitch marker Gauge: 7 stitches by 9 rows = 1" by 1" (blocked) Skills needed: • working in the round • magic loop method • Increasing and Decreasing • knitting and purling • I-cord • Making bobbles (instructions included) Abbreviations: K: Knit P: Purl CO: Cast on sts: stitches KtBL: Knit through the Back Loop KFB: Knit Front and Back loop (increase stitch) K2tog: Knit two stitches together as one (decrease stitch) MB: make bobble BO: Bind off Notes: • Cast on with method of your choosing • I used cast on tail as my end of round marker but you can use a stitch marker if you would like. • I like to knit through the back loop for ribbing rounds because it makes a tad more defined ribbing in my opinion. You can knit normally if you prefer • Blocking is very important for this hat! Block flat like a disc to get the right shape. Normally you would wrap the hat around a plate if it were people sized but you can just flatten it out by hand and pin it in place to a towel. • This bobble beret has 3 rows of bobbles. Bobble Beret: CO: 48 sts Divide in half for magic loop Ribbing: *KtbBL1, P1* for 3 rounds Set up Round: K2,*K 1, KFB*, until 2 sts remain, K2 (70 sts) How to make bobbles: K1, bring yarn in front under right needle, K1 as yarn wraps over right needle. As someone that has no bloody clue how to knit and only knows basic crochet I am trying to figure out how to do this.... my mind is blown. In a good way.
Learning to do the magic loop method is the trickiest bit! But it’s a great skill to learn especially for miniature knitting! Plus it’s used a lot in other things like socks and hats. I prefer it to double pointed needles!
