Does anyone have any tips or tricks for taking photos with a Canon T6i? I just got one as a gift and have never really used an actual lease camera. So while I know it takes time and practice, I was just wondering if anybody had something they wish someone told them when they started working with a lense camera vs a point and shoot.
OK, I've never used the T6i personally but I've used dSLRs for years and they don't differ that much one from another. If you use it in fully automatic mode you won't see much difference from your old point and shoot but you'll not be getting what it's capable of. You didn't mention the lens that it's coming with and with this class of camera the lens is arguably more important than the camera body. Exposure is governed by three variable; the aperture (how much light gets in) controls depth of field, the shutter speed controls how long it gets in and how sensitive the image is to movement, either camera or subject, ISO controls how sensitive the sensor is to light. More sensitivity = more noise in your images. I'd start using the camera in automatic mode but learn how to use the other modes also; many serious shooters use Aperture control for the majority of their work. Find a local or online basic photography class to learn the basics. Good luck!
Photography Basics: Exposure at a Glance I did a series of basics tutorials back when I was more serious about photography and blogging. Life has interrupted since then, so I haven't made any updates in a while. Here's the intro post, but there are several others if you look around the site.
