Modification Tips For Sanding Before Dyeing

Sep 12, 2022

    1. I recently got a SD13 Eden who is lovely but his skin is quite yellow so I’m planning on using a dezombification potion on him only thing is he’s got some major seams on his hands. Does anyone have any tips for removing them in a way that wouldn’t make the dye go uneven (besides using nail polish remover on the sanded seams right after taking them out of the dye pot).

    2. I sanded down a neck and then did a slight dye tint on the whole body and it turned out well. I used Novus 2 on the sanded area. It's a polish kit that includes 3 bottles for removing scratches out of plastic. I only did a tint with the dye, just to change the hue a bit, so I don't know if the results would be worse with a more concentrated dye bath. On close inspection you might be able to tell that I sanded it, but the end result was very good. It's worth noting that I did this without knowing if it would work, and I only have the one experience with it, so I make no guarantees about it working for another project!

    3. If it's just the hands, sanding can't be too bad. The worst that's gonna happen is that you can't make the texture match the areas not sanded. Then you will just need to sand the entire hand to make it even. I'm curious how others would do it too~

    4. What grit sandpaper(s) would you recommend?

    5. It's probably best to start off coarse and gradually move to fine. I have 500, 1000, 2000.

    6. Right, but I guess I meant which grit to use on the rest of the hand. I was thinking I could sand the seam and then do a sort of a gradient of sanding to make the potential color difference more subtle.

    7. Ooh then I imagine you would want to use the finest one you have. The last round of sanding at the seam would be the finest too, so the marks should be pretty well camouflaged.

    8. I’m mostly worried about accidentally erasing details like fingers nails. Though I suppose a swipe with the extra fine sanding paper wouldn’t do much harm.
