The original dye was Rit powder-teal. The head resin seemed to pick up the yellow much better than the blue of the teal. I then went with pure aquamarine liquid rit...and entire bottle for that small saucepan...and got the head color and the blue body color. Then I took the teal again on simmer to get the body closer to the head. The dye was quite even across a given piece and I was able to blend with pastels to what you see in the last picture.
Ummm little brother appears to have lost his kitty bits between part 1 and part 2. Wonder what that little stinker was up to so quickly lol. And Tink looks like shes coming together wonderfully!! Glad your boys trust you again lol.
Pooki pookifies when he gets hissy. When he settles, they *poof* disappear. Possibly I should make that more obvious! SFX! Yipppeee! Yup...but they're keepin' an eyes on me now.
Tink's dye job looks amazing! That blue colour is awesome! I applaud you for your bravery in taking on a dye project like this.
From what I've been able to determine, the big thing on dying (or removing magnets, for that matter...anything that involves heating and/or boiling water) is to use common sense and proceed cautiously and check the integrity of the resin often. You can always redip, but once the resin has sagged, its integrity has been compromised and will never be quite the same. To sand or not to sand...just depends on what it takes to get results. I was reluctant to sand for fear of not sanding evenly, but in retrospect, I think it would have helped the body. Obviously, the type and thickness of the resin is going to make a huge difference in how it reacts. Pooki is a magnificent smoocher! We've got another long-overdue box opening (and another even older! ARGH!) just about ready to post. I tell you...these kids keep me busy!
Thank you! When I hit that part where Wiishu was convinced I was a serial killer, I had to put the camera down, I was laughing so hard. I don't know how it is for other folks, but usually when I'm shooting, each pose sort of suggests the next line, and I really didn't see that one coming!
I just realized I never put a pick of the "finished product" up. Of course, he's still missing his crystals. Must get those on...
What a wonderful story. He turned out so well too! The others must be very happy their friend is back together now.
Thanks! I really love it. It worried me at first, because I had to let it sit in near-boiling water for so long, but it all worked out in the end.
