Third faceup

Jun 27, 2020

    1. So this is my third faceup (though I haven't done a faceup in about 2-3 years)
I tried a brush-on sealant, so it has a brush stroke texture to it haha

      They're an Unoa Sist

I messed up pretty bad with the sealant+pastels, so there is some dark discoloration on the face and ears.(and also a lot of dust)
I'll be wiping it on monday. But I wanted to see if I could get any useful tips for my next faceup :)

    2. Just my opinion: The eyebrows are good, but I'd like to see very fine individual brush strokes added. In the corners of the mouth, I'd recommend a very dark red instead of the current color. On my monitor, it's appearing pure black. The moles are also appearing pure black. Consider a very dark brown instead. The skin blushing color is nice, as is the lip color. I'd like to see some of the same color on the ears. (The ears are not in focus, so maybe there's more color there than I can see.)
I don't know enough about eyes to give advice there.
Be sure to protect yourself against resin dust.
I hope Monday goes well for you!

    3. Thank you! I only have black and white paint right now, but I'll be sure to buy some other colors like brown and red as well!

    4. I never knew about brush-on sealant. It kinda smears the black color what is really sad. Maybe you try the next time a different sealant. It looks good! but the sealant you chose kinda ruins it! :(

P.S the mole is super cute! :whee:

    5. I learned this from a fellow hobbyist but if you mix the brush-on sealant with some pastels/watercolours, you can just paint it and not have to worry about it smudging when you seal it afterwards :) (just remember to seal the head before you put any colour!). Also, you should def try skin texturing!! It's a lot of fun and it's def my most fav part about doing faceups ♥️ good luck and hope you enjoy the next round of face-up!

    6. It's a shame about the sealant, but well, at least now, you know! The sealant makes it look like an old doll, which is always good to know, even if that's not what you wanted this time.

I like the colors and I don't know what look you are going for and it may because of the sealant, but the upper lashes look like a solid mass of black to me. That's perhaps a bit too harsh if you were going for a natural faceup. But if you are going for goth, go for it!

I second the cuteness of the moles. :)

I'd love to see your next attempt, with a different sealant!

    7. oh that's interesting. i might try that on my next faceup, thanks :)

    8. Oh hey, I forgot about this post.
Thank you for your critiques! I sadly can't use a different sealant as I live in a small apartment without a balcony and with only one openable window:pout: But I'll try doing thinner layers of it, as the layers I put on were pretty thick.

I'll try out mixing the sealant with pastels/watercolors though, that sounds interesting! And also skin texturing :D

    9. Just make sure to wash your brush immediately afterwards!!! The sealant can make it into one thick blob of hair :sweat

    10. I use brush-on sealant. Smearing can always be a problem, but to reduce it I suggest a makeup wedge + light layers combo. Work from light to dark, and check for lifting color with each dab.
