I just got a sd13 head and as soon as I un-wrapped it, I noticed that the resin is super thin. A fairly good size of the back of the head is egg shell thin. And even looks translucent when holding toward the light. Also the neck rim where the head attaches to the body looks super thin and am thinking it may break out when attaching it to body.. Has anyone else ever seen this? Can anything be done to rectify this problem.. I am not sure that this head was ever even on a body.. It has no dirt or wear inside the head.. It is a nice head and would like to be able to use it but am afraid it will break quite easily.. Also there is a small hairline crack at the back top rim of the head where the wig cap attaches. Any advise or help is greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch. Gloria
That is... weird. Is it by one of the big comapnies? Because it would probably be best to contact the maker. If it belonged to me, and the maker wasn't helping, I'd start thinking about materials I could "line" the inside of the head with to make it more sturdy. Maybe a thin layer of polymer clay or liquid resin?
Yeah , That is what I was thinking.. but polymer clay has to be baked , I think. and can't do that as it would damage the lovely face-up and maybe warp the head. But liquid resin sounds of interest. I am not sure where to find it or how to use it.. Plus might not match the resin.. I suppose it would'nt matter as it would be on the inside of the head.. Wish I knew more about this.. I was thinking of trying to re-inforce the inside of the head with epoxy putty but not sure if it would be compatible with resin or would bond well with it?? Thanks for input. Gloria
I have used epoxy putty inside a resin head, and it seems to have adhered well, so I think you should be fine to use it to re-inforce the thin part. You should also contact the manufacturer though. - Therese
I'm curious about the brand, too. Oo; I'd def. contact the manufacturer, if just to see if it's normal for the head to be that thin. Apoxie Sculpt would bond very well to the resin on the inside of the head to make it more sturdy. ^^
