Shipping There and back again. Shipping returns for No Reason

Oct 18, 2010

    1. I really have a bone to pick with Singpost (Singapore Post) and it's Air Parcel shipping. As well as the US Customs. Because this have not happen to me once, but twice! :x

The first incident is on 12th of June. Package sending to a DoA member in IL, USA.
It got stick in the customs on the 17th. and for a over a month, there was no updates. No news of it and it's whereabouts. The poor DoA member on the other side of the world was checking her post office while I kept calling on my side of the post office (till they recognize my voice and started giving me the attitude :sweat)

21th July, I got a missed shipment in my mailbox, requesting me to pick it up at the post office. Pretty weird, I thought, since I didn't order anything. It turns out to be the missing pacel, sitting in my Singapore post office since the 9th July! :doh

Oh and the "best" thing was, while the package was sitting in Singapore, the tracking number on the USPS.com still say that's in the US:
Inbound Out of Customs, June 17, 2010, 2:29 am
      Inbound Into Customs
Inbound International Arrival, June 15, 2010, 10:55 pm, ISC SAN FRANCISCO (USPS)
Foreign International Dispatch, June 14, 2010, 6:10 pm, SINGAPORE, SINGAPORE
      Origin Post is Preparing Shipment
Foreign Acceptance, June 12, 2010, 2:59 pm, SINGAPORE

I refunded the DoA member and lost a sale. Ok fine, I'm cool with it.
I bugger Singpost, demanding for my shipping refund, which they finally did in Sept, 4 months later. Because they could not find the reason for the return

So I treated this as a 'freak case'. One in a million chance and it just happen to be me.
      Turns out, I was wrong.

Alas. Once again! A package I send out by Air Parcel to IN, USA on the 18th Sept has been return to me. Return reason? NO REASON! (Yes, it says that on the return form)

The current status on USPS.com status it's in customs:
      Inbound Into Customs
Inbound International Arrival, September 21, 2010, 5:16 pm, ISC SAN FRANCISCO (USPS)
Foreign International Dispatch, September 20, 2010, 6:16 pm, SINGAPORE, SINGAPORE
      Origin Post is Preparing Shipment
Foreign Acceptance, September 18, 2010, 3:45 pm, SINGAPORE

So I have to go through all the fussing and buggering again.
I've been played for a Fool, twice over. *_*

At least this time round, the DoA member ask for a resend. This time, by EMS.

Am I the only one who have encountered such a scenario? Is there anyway to prevent such a thing from happening again?

    2. Awww, I feel your pain. :( Sometimes I just can't figure out this postal system. Though my freak case was from the other side - I was supposed to get a package from the US. It was registered priority airmail with full insurance.

After the tracking didn't update at all for a month the seller started a missing parcel complaint, and it turned out that they reused the tracking number, that's why it didn't work. But this wasn't the worst - finally, after two months they managed to find my package, and I still can't believe where it was. The US post constantly kept saying that it must have got lost in my country, just to find out that the package spent two months in the exact same post office where it was posted in the first place! :doh Seriously...me and my seller were less than impressed that the postal system decided to play depository instead of what they were supposed to do.

And just to top that - they refused to resend the fully insured, registered package on their cost even though they didn't give us the service we paid for in the first time. They said, no matter the insurance, if an international package is shipped, the sending costs are already used up. Yeah...it must have cost a fortune to just keep my package in one place...

So I learned that the US postal system is totally irrational, and that purchasing insurance or registering a package won't do any good, because they'll just come up with some bogus policy and refuse to pay for their mistakes :x

    3. this has happened to me many times with my local post office, it is rediulous! With me it just seems that there ae no updates, like the package does not exist, and then next thing it is delivered to me as if it was addressed to me! Clearly it was not but there you go! I go mad over this and end up multiple times paying shipping on the same package. USPS is less than sympathetic as well, most of the time they will not refund the shipping charges! I get very very angry over this, honestly, it is rediculous!

    4. i sent out a parcel for a swap overseas with all the right stickers on it, only to have it turn up at my door the next morning. they had delivered it to the 'from' address. i was amazed at how quick they did it though. i posted it at 4.30pm and it was at my door at 8am the next morning.
luckily when i took it back to the post office they just resent it. the lady there didn't know how they could have possibly got it wrong as it was obviously meant to go out of the country.
otherwise i've been lucky with the post service!

    5. I got this kind of treatment from DHL recently. orz... My parcel was shipped from Japan... then at the status page, after a few days, it was written as : REFUSED BY RECIPIENT and RETURN TO SENDER. I was like : @_@??? I was at home all day that day and NO ONE CAME... so how come "refused by recipient"? (_ _) It was already nighttime when I checked the status page and I couldn't sleep that night!! 8 AM the next morning I went straight to the nearest DHL office and asked the staff about it... and you know what... she told me this : "Oh... the status was wrong. Our courier was late last night, there were too many parcels and he couldn't make it to your address, so we decided to ship it today..." No explanation as WHY the status was changed into REFUSED... orz... It gave me a heart attack.

    6. After chasing Singpost for so DAMN BLOODY LONG... they give me this "final" reply...

I've snapped a shot of the return slip which indicating the reason for return is UNKNOWN.
That's the 32 dollars I had to pay for the return shipping. (The package just went on a US tour with a return trip....)

I would like to ask of you, to just place yourself in my shoes. If you know that you've follow regulations, send out to the right address, and opt to pay for more expensive shipping for safer delivery. And yet, after waiting and worrying for such a long time, it failed to
deliver. The reason they given you is UNKNOWN. Not only that, you had to pay TWICE the shipping (return shipping).

Given this scenario, would you not be, pardon my language, pissed off?

I would say to avoid this "Air Parcel" service. At least if shipping to the US.
