    2. Ooooh, so exciting. I just have a couple of questions

      • You must use your own photographs to create your paper doll.

Does this just mean you're not allowed to take photos of your doll from the makers site, or does it mean the whole thing has to be made from photos? Would it be okay to draw the parts instead, or colour them in (i don't have a colour printer), or use some other technique to make them?

      • Your paper doll may not have removable or additional clothing or accessories.

Is it allowed to be wearing clothes in the first place, so non removeable ones? It doesn't have to be naked?

      - We want to see one photo of the uncut paper doll parts still in a single sheet

Is more than one sheet okay if we want to make it bigger than will fit on a single bit of paper we can print, or do we have to make it small enough that all the bits fit on one sheet?

      Thanks!

    3. Can you edit the heck out of your photos that you use to make your paper doll?

Embellish them with whatever you can manage to glue or fasten on them?

    4. Questions:

Do you have to use photographs of your doll, or can you draw the pieces?

It says that we must have a photo of all the pieces in one single sheet, does that mean we can only print on one piece of paper?

      Can we photoshop the pictures?

      Thanks!

    5. I have a couple of questions:

      1. You mention that we must only use on-topic dolls. Does that mean that petdolls (ex: dollzone event dolls from 2013, doll chateau Russell, etc.), which can be sold on the forum, are not allowed?
      2. You mention that you must see the doll parts all on one sheet- Does that mean that a single photograph of the doll that the parts were cut from doesn't count?

    6. ..sorry, more questions...
If we make our layout on the computer, can we send in a copy of the file in jpeg format, rather than the printed version of the uncut doll? (hopefully not too confusing :/ )

    7. I'm exhausted from the Triathlon, and I'm mostly looking forward to voting for everything and finally clearing all the craft supplies from my dining room table, but we'll see... ;)

    8. So... Is the idea to disassemble a naked doll, take pictures of the separated, download them, print them on a single sheet of paper (despite the size of the original doll), cut the parts out and assemble them with brads (or whatever)?

Or can we print out several pictures of the doll and cut the individual pieces form those?

      Can they be clothed?

Or should we just go to the link you provided for the Enchanted Doll BJD paper doll prize from and follow their example?

    9. I'm still running high on the Triathlon fuel, so I might as well just do this one. Awesome idea, mods! :aheartbea

    10. I want to do this... :D! I love a good paper doll! But I'm also confused on if the paper dolls should only be made from photos of our doll (taken by us of course) or if drawing is acceptable too.

    11. I second that, Turynn. Nothing mentions at all what kinds of mediums are acceptable, and I only see a note about using your own photos, so I don't want to just assume that drawn dolls are acceptably implied...

Though I should really be giving up on contests and getting back to doing the other stuff in my life right about now, hahaha. OTZ

It looks like so much fun! I would love a chance to have paper dolls from Enchanted Dolls. I'm a big fan of her work!

      <3 ali

    12. Yeah^_^; I have some neglected studying to do after the triathlon.... errr... maybe a little more than "some" haha.

Whether it's photos-only or drawing, I'm OK either way. I just think drawing would be fun too since having a drawn base would be make it easy to draw even more clothes for my doll later :3.

    13. So I just finished the prep work for this (I took the pictures with my phone and did the editing in MS Paint! :() but it turned out pretty nice and I'm pretty excited to print it out and finish it up! ^^

    14. The Enchanted Doll paper dolls we are offering as a prize are the main inspiration for this contest, please study them for the basic idea of what we will be looking for. The link provided at the top of the page shows some variations of the same theme and forms, along with differing attachment methods for a completed paper doll. When figuring out how to make these paper dolls, you should have a clear idea of what inspired the challenge.

You must use photos you have taken yourself. Company photos may not be used. Drawn dolls and/or clothing is not allowed. The photos may be printed in black or white (carefully consider that when taking your photos) or in color, but they may not have color applied to the doll after the fact. If you cannot print in color at home, I suggest taking it to a place that can print it for you.

If you look at the Enchanted Doll examples, you will see that the clothed dolls are made to be just that. Their clothing is for the greater part, not added but is a part of the photo, and their clothing is not removable so as to leave them as a naked doll who can wear other outfits. There is also a naked example, note the naked doll doesn't not come with additional clothing. It is your choice if the doll will be clothed or naked.

You are going to have to fit it all into a single image sheet to post in the thread, 800 pixel max on it's longest side. So no matter what size you make it, when it is posted it will all be the same size submission.

In terms of editing, you can remove shadows, make things more crisp, add an outline effect, embellish the a paper background of the full sheet, things of that nature. Again, look at the Enchanted examples, those are the outfits as they were made, carefully photographed and cleaned up to make nice paper dolls. You may not embellish or change the outfit to be some other outfit. So if the doll in your photo is wearing jeans, they may not have a glittery pattern added to embellish them in photoshop. If you have a more specific question about your entry, please use Ask the Mods to get your answers.

These must be photographs of your dolls (or a friends doll). Drawing doll parts or clothing embellishments on the paper doll is not allowed. You can draw and embellish the background sheet the doll will be cut out from only.
You can print your doll on as many sheets as you would like, your paper doll in real life could be a giant for all we know. But in the submission, you are limited to single images and a pixel size, make sure your submission looks nice.

The photoshop question is answered above.

You may only use on topic dolls for your jointed doll entry. Those are the only ones that really are made to meet the jointing requirements you will need for this entry. You could embellish your background paper sheet to include a photo on an off topic companion, they would just be a flat, non jointed piece, a companion for your paper doll. That sort of inclusion would not count for or against your entry, they would simply be an extra that fits in an empty spot.
I am not entirely sure I understand your second question. The single first image of your doll (without separate parts or jointing added) should not be included on your paper doll sheet.

All submissions will be made directly into the thread, there will be no place to send a file.

I think this had been covered in my previous answers.

You could disassemble part/s of your dolls if you envision specific photos in your layout. It is not required and is more difficult, but you can if that fits your vision.

If you intend your doll to be naked, then you will need to take nude pics. Otherwise, you will need to look at their clothing, and decide how you will need to break down the clothed doll in pics for it to be jointed together and make a single clothed doll. I do think that the Enchanted Doll examples are sure to steer you in the direction of what we are looking for. You can see how they have separated their clothed dolls into parts in order to then reassemble them. On the Cinderella paper doll, you will not there are two pieces of dress that then joint on to the whole, but alone they are not an outfit and removing them does not leave you with a nude paper doll. They are still parts of a whole and a design feature to allow her skirt to have more or less volume.

The dolls and the outfit they are wearing must be photos. The only acceptable place for hand drawing would be in embellishing the background sheet of your uncut paper doll.

      See above~

    15. Thanks for the answers, now i know that I can't do drawing, while it takes away my first couple of ideas, it actually made it easy for me to decide what i was going to do!

    16. Well, I have to say I'm excited about this. whether I win or not I'm trying it...some of those dolls in the links were so amazing!! I haven't started yet but this might be my favorite contest so far!

    17. I agree with this one!! I'd love to see a archive to this effect with different dolls from different people spring up after this contest :D

    18. Wow, this is sooo exciting. I can't wait to see the entries!

    19. Thanks fpr the answers. I guess we were all over-thinking the contest. You confused us by making it too simple.
Now I have to decide which doll/outfit I want to use......

    20. Darn it all! I was gonna skip the contests this year because I'm super busy... but I'm totally entering this one! I can have a flat version of my doll to keep out while the real thing's packed up in storage!

    21. One more question, that was asked before but not understood/answered.

I am going to make my sheet on my computer, make it into a large jpeg, and print it. When I show the pictures in this thread, can I post the jpeg I used pre-printing, or do I need to print it out and then take a photograph of the sheet to post here?

The rules do say "one photo of the uncut paper doll parts still in a single sheet" so I am guessing I need to print then photograph, but I just want to be sure.

      thanks!

    22. Oh, I woud totally love to enter this one... Now, which doll to make into a paper doll? Hmmmmmmm........

    23. Ooooooh! Another contest? All of them are so very cool! But I'm going to pass on entering since I (and my very understanding husband who graciously put up with my supreme messes for the past month) are exhausted from the other contests. I think the moderators are awesome for coming up with such diverse and creative concepts for us to explore our viewpoints. Thank you!

    24. I shared this with Enchanted Doll fans, hope some more entries get sent in ^_^

    25. By "one photo" we mean one image. It can be your finalized digital layout before you print it or it can be a photograph of your printed sheet. The only requirement is that the image you post here in this thread is 800 px on the longest side and all of your pieces fit onto that one "sheet."

    26. Finished my layout *phew*... now I just need to print and put her together... I'm interested to see what everyone makes!!

    27. I'll try my best to enter but I may need to skip this one. The new semester just started after all.

    28. Thank you! And thanks for all your help and answering of silly questions in the other contest threads too, I really appreciate all the work you and the other mods have done to make this fun for us!

My entry is now finished and on a USB stick waiting for my bf to take it to the print shop on his way home from work tomorrow, I've printed a prototype on my crappy laser printer here, but i can't wait to see how it looks in colour.

    29. This. Is not easy. lol
I've already shot about a million pictures and I swear it wasn't enough Xo
Now I'm about halfway done and the hard part is still to come! Photoshop skills, activate!!

(it might have been easier had I picked a smaller, simpler doll with short hair....but no. I went with hard.)

    30. Here's mine. She is a Dollstown Seola. I used knotted thread for the joints. I'm so glad the mods came up with this contest because I wouldn't have thought to make a paper doll of one of my dolls otherwise and she is super fun to pose and play with.

    31. Oh wow it's so good! I love her, she was a perfect choice.
I was thinking the same thing...I never thought to do anything like this. It was fun. A LOT of work (my hand is dead now. DEAD.), but fun. I have my layout finished, I just have to print and put it together (the hair didn't happen. I had to figure something else out). I can't wait to see if it works. Omg I hope it works.

    32. Gypsydale, wow she is so adorable! I love how you made sure her arm joints are visible ;___; ~ <3 she is so adorable, colorscheme and everything! <3 great job!

i hope this gets lot of entries since I don't have a printer and hence, can't participate. But it only makes it more fun to see how cute dolls others make! <3

    33. Thank you! I'm also looking forward to see what other people are going to do.

    34. gypsydale, she is beautiful! I never thought paper dolls would be so fun to play with!

Maaru, I don't have a printer either (well, i do, but it's a very old laser printer that is ok with text but completely awful with images, and doesn't do colour.) I got my bf to take my finished layout to a print shop to get it done, he said it cost £2-something for 3 sheets, so not hugely expensive...if you really want to take part, you could see if there's somewhere near you who will print it?

    35. vampy, I hadn't even thought about that : O I guess there is one print shop, I'll have to ask them : D Thanks for the tip!

    36. Gypsydale, that's absolutely beautiful! I love how naturally you got her to pose <3

This was a really fun contest. I wouldn't have thought to make a paper doll of my dolls myself otherwise, and it was really fun.
For my own entry, I used my Dust of Dolls Cham Näbi, my favourite doll. She's my most poseable doll, so I wanted the paper doll to reflect that. For fastenings the joints, I used knotted threads, as it gave me a better opportunity of matching the thread to the area of the doll I was using it on. Here's my entry:

    37. WinonaFlammery she looks so good!!

I used my DM-DC hybrid because...he's Skullface. And I thought he'd be awesome as a paper doll. He's joined with those metal thingys (brads?) in an old coppery color (because they looked grungy, like Sullface), and has 19 pts of articulation. He's also giant. Seriously, he comes up to my hip. I have since laminated two more...I'm stupidly excited to have nigh-indestructible ones. Meh heh.

He's sort of a patchwork doll as well, since only a very few of the pieces were from the same photo >.<

My layout. I took a picture rather than use a jpg...because its the only way to see size. Three pieces of 11x17 to print him out *ded*

I have to say I think this was my favorite thing I've ever participated in on DOA. Just looking at all the examples was awesome. I want to do so many more of these now, I kept thinking of how I could have done it better and how "next time" will be perfect XD
Paper dolls of my dolls may be my new obsession....

    38. I was curious to see how people would approach this challenge and I am very impressed! I think any of you could go into the paper doll business.

    39. Augh this was such a cool contest! Now I have a little bitty doll! I used my DC Ingemar in his Halloween outfit, even if it's a bit early for Halloween,* so now I have a cool little hanging ornament for next to my computer. I used thread and clear seed beads to fasten him, since I didn't have brads around.

      Printout page. Fits onto one 8.5 x 11 :3

Sweet little ghosty gentleman, just please don't upset him...

He might just lose his head o:

*lol JK it's never too early for Halloween.

Edit: Forgot to mention, he's got 12 points of articulation in total (:

    40. These are awesome! I have to finish my layout tonight so I can print tomorrow at work and cut and assemble... sometime before the deadline. Agh. I don't think I'll go super tiny for the contest, but I'm thinking of making in scale paperdolls of my dolls for dolls. Too meta?

    41. Awesome stuff! I'm almost done with mine too. :D

    42. I used my HZ/AOD Song for this. He was all dressed up in his new armor plus he has a tail he could play with. I joined him with little scrapbook brads. He has sixteen points of articulation. His paper doppleganger is almost the same size as in real life.

      Song in pieces.
Tra-la, the happy neko in his armor, lol.
      Now he's a bit nervous.

This was really a fun project. I really enjoyed this nostalgic look to the past with my new crew.

    43. Everyone's paper dolls look awesome!

Playing just for fun, here is Jack (angelbattle pum) dancing away in the form of paper :)

He has 14 little brads holding him together and is about the same size as he is in resin form.
Now I want to go try this with the rest of my dolls.

    44. This was a lot of fun! I used Paul, my Crobidoll E-line Tori. The pouty Victorian child seemed like a good fit for a paper doll. :) Everyone else's entries look amazing!

He has 11 points of articulation and is jointed with knotted thread.

    45. Alright, not the best quality photos (I only have my phone) but this was so much fun to do! :D

I used my tiny DC Ada. She has 19 points of articulation, and is jointed with knotted string!

"You put a knot through my mouth!? How could you!?"

    46. Ooh, they all look really cool! Fingers crossed mine should be ready tomorrow...although it's not going to be as nice as these ones...I suck at photoshop.

    47. I didn't use Photoshop at all for mine. :) Just printed out two pictures and cut out the pieces! (One picture won't work because the pieces need to overlap, but I managed with two.)

    48. I didn't use PS either! I used MS Paint XD

    49. Yep, that's exactly what I did, too.

    50. So many cool entries. Vampireangel13, I'm amazed you managed to make a paper doll that large. It sounds like a rather daunting task, so kudos to you!

I also just took a picture and printed out some copies. I didn't need to use any editing program at all...

    51. Everyone has really done some amazing stuff. I can't wait to see the rest!

Ha, I have no idea what I was thinking! I didn't really realize it until I as about halfway done, and instead of resizing I just went for it! (or I was too lazy to change it up? Possibly....)
I may need 6 months to recover now. Before I make the next one!! *crazy*
He looks really cool hanging on my wall at work! But kind of distracting...I keep wanting to reposition him.

    52. Wooow! So many entries!! I'm amazed, you guys are fantastic!!

Here's one of my dolls... Just for fun :XD:

I made mine in photoshop out of 3 different pictures :sweat ... She has 12 points of articulation and is held together by brads.
(please excuse my terrible photography skills URK!!)

I'd love love love to make more of these little guys, such fun ^^

    53. Alrighty then...here's my attempt! Azrael is a DollZone Raymond.
Firstly, the sheet of body parts:

Azrael has eleven points of articulation and is held together with silver seed beads.

Now, after a hard month of contest-entering, I think it's time for some meditation to relax...

    54. Alrighty, so here's mine. This is Sasha, he's my Saintbloom Charlie. There are 11 points of articulation and he's jointed with knotted embroidery thread :)

    55. Finally decided which of my photos to use. Here is my XM Vivi from Mirodoll. I decided to use brads to join her so the additional friction would make her less 'floppy' and able to stand up on her own in a pose. She has 13 points of articulation.

    56. This is my little Biscuit Paper Doll. She has 14 points of articulation. She has been assembled using tied embroidery thread. The original doll is a Fairyland Minifee Chloe. This was a fun project and I'd like to try making a couple more. Thanks so much!

    57. These are so cute & awesome! What a great idea :D If I had a working printer I'd be doing one LOL

    58. These are so amazing! I would love to submit one, but I'm not quite sure if this has ended or not. Either way, you guys have totally inspired me to make one on my own. Great work everyone! :D
