Contest The Wicked Sweet Triathlon [Multi-Skill] - WINNER POSTED (Post 964)

Jul 3, 2011

    1. The Wicked Sweet Triathalon will be the most difficult contest of all and will be for the biggest prize: a fullset Leekeworld Kiel Ent!

Second Prize will be a Dikadoll Bonnie (normal, yellow skin with faceup), generously donated by Mint on Card.

Third Prize will be an AiL Bertram head, generously donated by RoseDolls.

In August there will be three feats of skill; the first two events will each last one week, the final will last almost two weeks. Votes in these events will count as points, and points will be cumulative. At the end of the the three events, the person with the highest score wins! Please note, you must participate in all 3 events to have a chance at the prize - this is also a feat of endurance!

Each challenge will be posted individually, right when that section is going to begin! If the challenge will require special supplies, we will give notice several days before the challenge is issued.

Please note that it is possible to participate just for fun, without being in the running for first prize. Do not accept the prize if you do not intend to keep it; it is unsportsmanlike to sell the prize after receiving it and anyone found doing this will receive a Marketplace suspension and be barred from future contests.

    2. Challenge #1: Risquรฉ Business

Socks are soooooo 2009! We've all moved on, we'll all become more sophisticated.... more... risquรฉ. That's why this year we're making a fabulous doll outfit out of ladies' underwear.

      Yes, that's right.

You are hereby challenged to make a lovely outfit, with no restrictions on style, using only two pairs of panties.

      You may use:
      • TWO (2) pairs of women's panties, any style. They can be lacy, they can be simple; choose the ones that suit your design. They do not have to be the same style. For example, you might buy a pair of cutie pattern briefs for color and a pair of belly-button high granny panties for yardage.
      • Thread, any ONE (1) color. Thread may be used as a design element, so choose your color wisely. You may NOT substitute other thread-like materials, such as sewing elastic, ribbon, yarn, or embroidery floss.
      • Snaps. These are to be used purely as fasteners and may not be used as design elements. No zippers, grommets, etc. unless you can somehow find a pair of panties that has them.

The following styles are acceptable for use:
The outfit must be removable, so you cannot just sew your doll into the outfit.

You may NOT use any items other than those listed above. Make good use of lace, ribbons, lacing, elastic, and buttons that can be found on the panties you choose.

Please note that you can NOT use men's boxers due to the fact that there is frequently a lot more fabric in much more "convenient" cuts.

You will need to provide the following photos:
      • A "before" picture showing your doll with your two pairs of chosen panties. This will allow us to see the underwear and compare the amount of fabric you started with to your finished outfit.
      • A full-length picture of the outfit on your doll that shows the whole outfit. This must be shown on an on-topic doll. We're sorry, but you will need to own or borrow at least one full doll (head and body) to participate in the The Wicked Sweet Triathlon (TWST).
      • A picture (or collage of pictures made into one image) that shows your favorite detail or details.
      • A picture of the outfit by itself, not modeled on the doll. This is to verify that it can be removed.
We probably don't have to tell you this, but we do not want to see any pictures of you or any other humans modeling panties. It is also in everyone's best interest (particularly your expensive doll's cleanliness and your own self-respect) to use new, unused underwear for this venture.

      ENTRY FORM NOW AVAILABLE!

      Who May Enter?

This contest is open to all members who do not currently have any unresolved transactions or other disciplinary measures in place. Members must have joined the forum before June 25th, 2011.

The contest is also open to all forum staff, though staff may not participate for prizes. If you have won a doll or part of a doll in a past DoA contest, you may enter for fun but you may not participate for prizes.

      Rules
      1. Minimal use of photo editing, please. We want to be impressed by your creation, not your amazing use of Photoshop.

      2. The outfit must have been created specifically for this contest.

      3. No posting entries or others photos that are recognizably from the same photo shoot until after judging is closed.

      4. Outfits must be modeled on on-topic dolls.

      Specifications

You may submit one outfit only.

Photos must be sent in JPEG format, 600 pixels on the longest side.
Oversized photos or photos sent in the wrong format will be disqualified.

Entries will be accepted from August 1st to 11:00pm EST August 7th. For those of you who are unaware, the US is on Daylight Saving time. Entries received after this time will be disregarded; if you do not know what time this is where you are, use this link.

Entries will be submitted directly to the moderators using a form that will become available in a few days.
Do not PM Truffle or any of the other moderators with your entry; this form is the only way to enter.

If you are not interested in the top prize, please indicate this on your entry form. Do not accept the prize if you do not intend to keep it; it is unsportsmanlike to sell the prize after receiving it and anyone found doing this will receive a Marketplace suspension and be barred from future contests.

      Voting

Entries will be posted for member voting from August 9th-August 13th. Votes will be submitted and tallied privately using a new feature in the forum software. The totals will be made available on completion of voting.

Entries will be posted without the entrants' names to try to avoid this being a popularity contest. For this reason, we must stress that identifying your entry to others will lead to disqualification.

We will also be employing the same codename system as last year - pick a good secret identity for this year's contest! You may not use the same code name you used last year.

      Points and Prizes

This is the first task in the quest for the Kiel Ent, listed in the first post. Please remember that you must complete all three challenges in order to qualify for the prize. You may join for fun at any time, but you can only win if you have participated in all sections.

Members will choose the best entries in three not-yet decided categories - so there will be three ways to earn points! Focus on making a great outfit and you'll be on your way to earning points no matter what categories are chosen! Unlike last year, we will also allow members to vote on "just for fun" entries; even if entrants don't want the prize, it's fun to see how they ranked! (And it's a pain keeping straight who is doing what).

The scoreboard will be updated in the opening post at the end of each segment.

    3. Challenge #2: Shadowcasters

All right, now for a change of pace. This portion of the contest is to make a doll-scale prop - a light source for your doll.

This may be a lantern, a candelabra, a flashlight, a lamp... the important thing is that it must produce light, even if its means of doing so is by being on fire.

There are SO many options! Just do a Google image search for some ideas!

      You may...
      • ...use pieces of premade items, such as battery-powered tea lights, doll house lighting, birthday candles, etc., but you must alter them into something new.
      • ...create your own circuits or lighting elements from scratch. You don't have to make something from something else.
      • ...use any other items or material needed to create your prop.
      • ...interpret creating light as you wish. It does not need to be a household lighting item - it can be anything from a campfire to a magic spell!
      You may not...
      • ...use an unaltered, store-bought item. For example, if you find a tiny flashlight at the store, you can't just submit it as-is. We aren't going to ask for a percentage of change, but in an ideal world we shouldn't be able to tell right away where your components came from.

You will need to provide the following photos:
      • A "before" picture showing your materials.
      • A picture of the prop by itself.
      • A picture of the prop "in use" (lit up) with your doll. You can use other props and items to help convey the mood. Any pose, any mood.
      • A picture of the doll, casting some sort of shadow using the light source that you made. This picture MUST be submitted in black and white. If you do not have photo editing software, there are online options such as Pixlr that you can use!

    4. Challenge #3: The Doppelgรคnger

      Doppelgรคnger
      1
: a ghostly counterpart of a living person

      2
      a : double
      b : alter ego
c : a person who has the same name as another

Playing into the concept of the shadow, your final task is to create and photograph a 1:1 scale representation of your doll.

By 1:1 scale, we mean that your doppelgรคnger should be about the same size as your doll. So if your doll is 60cm, you would make a 60 cm representation; if your doll is 20cm, you would make a 20 cm representation.

The doppelgรคnger can be a sculpture in the round, it can be a "flat" representation such as an actual-size paper doll, or it can be something in the middle. It can be jointed or in a fixed pose. The important thing to remember is that you will have to photograph your doll interacting with it. In some mythologies, a doppelgรคnger is simply an identical body double; in others, it is an ominous or completely unrepressed version of oneself. For further information, check out this great article. How you define a doppelgรคnger and its meaning is up to you, but you would do well to consider your particular portrayal and make sure it works with your choice of construction.

It should resemble your doll, but does not need to be an exact likeness - if you want to make a balloon-animal version of your doll, go for it! If you want to wrap Christmas lights around a wire armature, do it! Be creative and play with aspects of your doll's character or try out a new medium.

You can use any material or technique except those listed below:
      • No premade doll parts, wigs, clothing, or accessories. You can't use other dolls or parts of other dolls (so no using option hands or heads, premade cloth bodies or dress forms, etc) or premade wigs or clothing. There is only one exception to this rule - You MAY use premade eyes.
      • No moldmaking/casting. Not only is it illegal to make copies of your doll or parts, it gives some members an advantage because they have the knowledge and/or materials.
      • Your doppelgรคnger cannot be made of pieces you created earlier. For example, if you are a wigmaker, you will need to make a new wig specifically for this project rather than using one from your stock. If you are a sculptor, you can't reuse a head that you made before the contest.

You will need to provide 4 images:
      • One picture of the doppelgรคnger by itself.
      • One picture of the doppelgรคnger with your doll, unposed and just for comparison.
      • One picture showing a favorite detail or a collage showing multiple cool details of your doppelgรคnger.
      • One artistic photo of your ONE doll interacting with its doppelgรคnger. No extra dolls. This picture can be in black and white or color - choose which fits your image and concept best!

Please keep a high resolution version of the last image. If there are enough entries, I would love to make a calendar or something using the photos!

If you want to journal about your project and ideas, you can post in the progress journal using this form!

    5. I love first prize, but I highly doubt I am multi-skilled enough to win it...It does not hurt to try, I suppose.

    6. You never know unless you try! :thumbup

I'm interested in this as well. Depending on the contest themes I just may give it a shot! We'll see. :)

    7. I'm also planning on entering one other contest too, so I guess it depends on when I'm done that by...should be easy since it's photography, but I still need to get my make-shift studio up and running. My only problem would be with this contest is it involved a skill i don't have, which is very possible.

    8. Are we going to be getting more information on this later on this week? I know August begins on Sunday (and so does my week long cottage retreat with no internet).

I'm just curious since I'd love to try to do this but I'm concerned about the dates for the first event due to my vacation.

    9. We'll be posting some information later this week, but it will only be required supplies. The actual challenge will be posted on August 1st, which is next Monday.

    10. Oh the excitement :XD:!

I can't wait for this challenge to start either as I sadly missed last year's.

    11. Thank you for letting us know Armeleia! If each challenge is a week long then it sounds like I'll have a chance to hop in on the first one :D.

    12. Supply list? Oh boy! I was wondering how this year's triathalon would work...I'm excited :) looking forward to it.

    13. I am super excited about this one this year. I am determined to complete all three challenges this year as my day-job got in the way last year. I really love the prize as well and am hoping to do well enough to have a chance to win this awesome fantasy doll! squeeeeee!

    14. Wow! This sounds really interesting. I'm not sure I'll hve the right stuff to compete, but I'll certainly be watching with interest!

    15. I'll actually be posting the first challenge later tonight. :) the supplies and challenge need to be posted at the same time and you may need the weekend to shop.

    16. Looking forward to it! C:

    17. Since I've nearly recovered from last year's event,
(Though I'll never know where all the time went)
It's time to stock up on some Kleenex and gin,
Gird my loins in Hope and start over again!

    18. Oh no! If its getting posted tonight I really better get to finishing my swap!

    19. Weekend shopping? oh no! Tomorrow is my brother's birthday, and on Sunday shops are closed here :( I'll have to shop sometime during the week after work... I don't want to reconsider entering :'(

    20. Sounds good! I may be able to pick up some items tomorrow, where I'm heading for a one day event (or maybe not). You never know what kind of skills you are going to need. I do hope this contest is different from all the other ones though. Oh well, we shall see. I'll do my best!

    21. The first contest has been posted in the second post of this thread. Please ask questions in the thread... but if your question is SUPER SPECIFIC and might identify your entry, please send me a PM instead.

    22. unfortunately I am not elligible to enter any of the contests...I am too new to the Forum...

    23. I love this challenge!!! I'll do my best to enter although there may have to be some awkward panty shopping at the teeny convenience store up at the cottage XD. Thank goodness they only see me once a year.

    24. Ok, a few questions:
Do you have to use 2 pairs of panties? Is it possible to just use one? I am not sure if I will end up using one or 2 at this point so I thought I should ask (just in case it was required to use 2).

Do the snaps have to come from the panties (I'm guessing no, but need to confirm)?
Are snaps the only way that we can fasten the outfit or can be use other things that are on the panties?

    25. I wasn't here for this last year but this looks like a LOT of fun. Hopefully I can get to a store soon and get some panties.

    26. Sweet!!! I already have ideas. Just gotta get to buy some cute panties for this <3

    27. Ah, totally doing this!!! I'm just not sure which boy to smother in panties....

So, we only get one kind of thread.... say we have rainbow thread? It's got lotsa colors, but it's all still one spool; is that allowed?

    28. This is such a cool idea! XD I've totally got to try this out! Panties...

    29. Panties???

Hmm, I think I do have some ideas, but now it's up to see whether I can find the right kind of panties for this project.

    30. I have a question about the prize, since we have to indicate if we are going to pass on it on our form... do we get to pick the colors and the style of horns, or it is pre-set?

    31. "We probably don't have to tell you this, but we do not want to see any pictures of you or any other humans modeling panties. It is also in everyone's best interest (particularly your expensive doll's cleanliness and your own self-respect) to use new, unused underwear for this venture."

This is slightly ironic since I have just thrown out all of my old panties and was really torn up about throwing such pretty things away because they were slightly threadbare or the elastic was worn out. I think I might have just put them in a bag somewhere... Maybe I can find them and make my outfit of my old panties! :)

      Btw, I am joking.

    32. Oh, and is there a size restriction of the doll and of the panties?

Because making an outfit for a pukipuki/realpuki with panties is much easier than making one for an SD. Plus if you buy size 34 panies you have less fabric than buying size 46.

    33. Great idea! I wish I had seen this before I went shopping today. But maybe I'll try tomorrow as it's a Shopping Sunday. I'm looking forward to this!

    34. So I've just returned from the shopping mall with two panties. One is XXXL for the fabric, the other one is a S size tanga, just for the decoration.

PhieRyder, you're quite right, I think choosing the right kind of doll for this contest is probably a key for making good clothes. Actually from two pairs of the right kind of XXL panties you could probably make a complete Lolita Outfit for a slim MSD.

Currently I'm determined to go with a SD doll. It will probably be slightly harder, but I like the challenge. But then again MSD size is much easier to sew for. Or YoSD. Oh, decisions, decisions ;)

    35. I'm not sure, I'll ask.

That should be all right. I would recommend taking a picture of the thread with the doll and panties to verify.

The snaps can be purchased separately. You can use other things found on the panties to fasten or embellish the outfit.

You don't have to use two pairs of panties if it's not needed.... but you won't get any bonus points for making due with one pair.

    36. I love this challenge. Even though I can't sew too well, I think I may give it a shot because it sounds like a lot of fun. :)

PS: Total bonus pts for calling it "Risque Business" -- I'm inspired now to wear Wayfarers while sewing. ;)

    37. And just int time for this I slammed my right thumb in a door jam!! :...(

    38. This sounds like fun - and I already had some panties in the fabric box (bought a 4-pack, discovered pair one was uncomfy so the other three went in the box - plus some freebies from VS I know I'll never wear). I have an idea that I might be able to do, even though I'm really bad at sewing... and now my sewing machine is not working. I'm probably going to have to beg my mother for help to figure it out!

Sometimes I really wish that all girls (well everyone now, but in mom's time it was girls) were still required to learn sewing in school.

    39. Haha this looks like alot of fun, I'll be back this year for the fun of it! Looking forward to distroying my front room again in the pursuit of the Triathlon!

    40. Yes! That was my plan too! Reallllllly big underwear for fabric and something pretty for decoration :)

I only have a pukipuki (girl) and a LTF boy, and I have the most amazing panties at home that I wanted a couple of years ago and got as a birthday gift from a friend - a size too small. Now I can't wait to cut them up and make an adorable outfit from them! They are not "brand new" since I have had them in my draw for a while, but I have never actually worn them so they should be good. Sadly they are tiny (which is why they do not fit) so I'll have to get some bigger ones of a similar colour or a matching fabric :)

      I'm actually really excited now!

    41. I thought of a few questions. :)

1.) When we have our dolls model the outfit, can they wear shoes? Or if I don't make socks/shoes/etc. with the panties should I photograph my doll barefoot? The doll I'd be using also has her ears pierced. Should I remove her earrings before taking photos?

2.) I know my chance of winning is slim to none, but I have a question RE: the 1st place Kiel. I def' would never dream of selling a doll awarded as a prize (that's wrong on so many levels, IMO), but could I compete with the intent on giving the doll to a friend as a gift if I won? He's not in the hobby, but he loves my dolls (especially my own Ent) and if by the grace of God I actually won I would love to surprise him with it. Would something like that be against the rules? If so, I may just compete for fun. ;)

Thank you sincerely for any and all help! :aheartbea

    42. 1. They can wear shoes and earrings, just specify on the entry form that you didn't make them. :)

      2. You can give it as a gift to a friend. That's a sweet ambition.

Best of luck to everyone... I'm swamped and don't have time to participate for fun this year. Super bummed about that. But it means I can be really mean and give you really hard challenges because I don't have to do them myself. MWA HA HA HA HA HA! :mwahaha

    43. Thanks for the prompt reply, armeleia! Hooray! :)

    44. I'm super swamped too! I might do the last challenge just for fun, depending on what it is. :)

    45. haha this is cute! if I can get ot the store i might enter XD

    46. Eeeeep, Cool challenge but you're going to make us boys go buy girls underwear!!? I hope the cashier doesn't think I'm some sort of creep. >_____< I'll definitely need to take a girl shopping with me if I wanna buy lil' kids/teen underwear for it.

    47. I bought underwear that was very clearly not my size and spent a good deal of time deciding and comparing colours. I'm sure they think I'm very strange now. But I found two perfect pairs! Now to hurry and cut out the pieces so I don't have to explain to the sewing group why I'm cutting up panties the very first time I meet them.

And to guys buying, don't worry so much. Its mostly when you've got a bushy beard and want to try it on that employees look twice.

    48. I failed the last triathlon I entered, but I'm gonna try again! I'll be off to buy some panties tomorrow! :D

    49. haha! So this is a step up from sock dresses! :) I love it. Totally going shopping tomorrow. I'll try to save my receipts, just in case.

    50. Oh man! I really want to do this!
      Poopies :...( I don't have a doll yet.
I hope there will be a Halloween or Christmas contest, how about every holiday? :sweat
Just you wait, I'll kick everyone's butt next time!
Though I'm super excited to see everyone's entries, can't wait! :aheartbeaGood luck everyone! :aheartbea

    51. Hello again! I appreciate how specific the rules are this year. :) Are we allowed to use any sort of interfacing or structural supports, like cardboard? They won't be seen, only used to provide sturdiness.

    52. This is gonna be fun!

    53. Aww, great news is coming.
It's gonna be interesting and fun.

    54. what is on-topic doll?

    55. I wasn't sure if i was going to enter this year or not. But knicker dresses won it for me, i LOVE them. I think they are so awesome and i need to sew more clothes for my new girl any way. So win!

    56. Can the outfit be assorted with different accessories, like jewelry, shoes, hat, etc, as long a contestant made them? And is it still ok if said accessories were made a while back?

    57. Are we allowed props in the picture if we feel it helps "show off" our outfit more?

    58. I'm excited about this challenge! Now off to get some undies. XD

    59. I have a question in regards to shoes/slippers. I have a pair of nice slippers that will go with my design- however I made them long ago to go with another outfit. Is it ok for the doll to wear them, even though I made them and they are not part of the panties???? In all of the picture taking, I guess I can retake the photos if she can wear these, it just completes the outfit.

Also, can we use props like a chair or mirror in the photos??? I was thinking of using a mirror to show off the back of teh outfit, in the standing picture if that is ok.
