New I use candles in many of my scenes. They are 4" vigil candles, and burn down rather quickly, so need to be replaced often. I save the most interesting little stubs, and finally had an idea for how to use them. To prevent the wax from melting all over my floor cloth, I first put down a large sheet of glass. I posed Bianca in a kneeling position with the help of a stand inside her dress so there was no chance she'd fall forward, and far enough back that she was nowhere near the candles on the floor. I lit all the candles on the floor first, and then finally the long one she was holding in her hand, which extended far enough out that there was no chance of any wax dripping on her skirt. These photos were the result...
New Marvellous! Perfect in every detail. It's very natural and the glass makes the floor look like marquetry. I don't know if I dare to use real candles.
New Beautiful !! The reflections of the candles in the glass floor covering add to the magical atmosphere you've created in your photos.
New Wow, these are beautiful pics!! The melted candles and darker atmosphere in the last one really make it feel like she’s been doing her vigil for hours…I love the visual storytelling
New @Mazovshanka - Thank you! Yes using real candles can make me a bit nervous too, but I take all kinds of precautions, and the doll is actually further back than she looks. @rosehollow -Thank you! I'm so glad I covered the floor with a sheet of glass, as the candles were just little puddles of wax by the end, and the floor cloth would have been ruined. @Marquis - Thank you! I started out by taking photos hand held with my camera setting on Auto, but wasn't sure they'd be clear enough, so did the last two using a tripod with the camera set on a slow ISO and a ten second timer. As a result of the ten second wait each time between shots the candles, which were already down half of what they started out at, burned down into puddles of wax.
New Such stunning photos! I love how the glass makes the floor cloth underneath look like mosaic tiles.
New Thanks! It never occurred to me, but maybe the shine of the glass makes the pattern in the fabric look like ceramic tiles.
New Yay! You did it without burning the house down! A really impressive challenge! As always, I do so love your world -fantastic!!
New @BJDream - Thank you so much! @Valdemagra - Well, I do take precautions. I've been using candles for years, and have never had any problems. @Arimioa - Thank you!
