^ The best doll surprise I've had is definitely when I got my grail doll as a Christmas present from my parents and grandparents!

^ I have been. Real life stuff gets overwhelming, and I just need a break from things. I don't put away my dolls or anything like that, but I drop off the internet radar and may not have much to do with the dolls themselves.

v Do you have a doll that is your "comfort doll," the one that you want to hold or play with after a rough day or week?

 

^ For comforting, there's none better than Jun or Gime, they have a soft comforting personality *w*

v What is the your most ridiculous doll purchase (or story)?

 

^ I had ordered my first doll, and I was very excited. My whole family gathered around to watch me open this expensive gift-to-myself. Little did we know at the time that BJDs were anatomically correct. You can imagine all our reactions when we saw the resin junk. I also had forgotten to purchase clothes/eyes/wig, so we ordered those immediately, and we made makeshift shorts for him to wear to cover up his manhood.

< Work today and work Xmas eve. Joy. Well, at least there's no more renovations going on so I'll have something to do.

v Have you ever had someone gift you a doll? What was your reaction if so? If not, What was the best BJD deal you have ever found?

 

^ I have, yeah. A few of my friends pitched in and got me a DZ Big Dipper for my birthday. There was a lot of squeaking involved. And some tears. And hugs. And more tears. It was pretty much amazing.

v Passing on the second question, since I didn't answer it: What's the best BJD deal you have ever found?

 

^ I would have to say finding a LUTS event head for more than a fraction of the price on one of my local forums that was shown on eBay for $85

v what would be the BJD impulse buy that you don't regret at all even if it was expensive or you didn't have space for it?

 

^ This - it was all those things and I totally do not regret.

^ What wasn't a impulse buy? xD Most recently Souldoll Junia, I guess.

v If you could get one doll sculpt in any skin color you'd want, which doll and what colour would it be? :]

 

^ Oh man, ANY sculpt? I would definitely get an Enaibi Caramalyne, maybe in a combination of black and lavender resin though I would be happy with any color honestly.
< It's been a very lucky month; I opened up one of my grails and purchased another grail with some birthday money!
v Keeping with the grail theme, what doll is your grailiest-grail of all?

 

^ As of this moment I'd say Souldoll Berial in tan skin, with both heads and both hooves and regular legs. (Also Lillycats Ellana in whatever color is closest to that of light milk chocolate). Also, also, also Merrydollround's Mousse in strawberry skin. I cannot choose, do not make me choose, I am incapable of making this decision.

v Do you have good impulse control? Can you say "No, I will not raid my scholar funds/savings/whatever to buy this very LE gorgeous grail doll I've been wanting since the moment I saw him/her/it"??

 

^ I do, and it's largely because I don't have the funds to NOT have good impulse control. XD

^ always. I have a picture of Flynn in front of a TV screen playing an episode of Chopped ??? confused as to why i have that pic, too.

v Do you have any dolls that your're itching to have a new face up done on them?

 

^ That would be just about everyone, hahaha... I keep telling myself 'next month you'll send one of these out for a face-up', but it never happens.

< Almost 2am and I should be asleep, but my back hurts and I'm too excited to feel tired.

v Beside dolls, what are some of your other hobbies? (if you have any, if not, what would you like to do beside dolls?)

 

^ I've got a few! I do cosplay, though mainly focusing on one character (Edward Elric, though I occasionally also dress as Ryner Lute, because there's virtually no cosplayers from that series), so I spend most of my time refining that particular costume more and more. I used to do a comic, and hope to get back into doing comics once I find and settle into a new job. I do journal role playing, and will be restarting that tonight after a school-induced hiatus, and am hoping to do some tabletop RP again soon, too. There's also some of the more "mundane" stuff, like reading, sewing, cooking, and some attempts at scrapbooking.

< I don't even know where to start on job searching, but I'm going to wait until after Christmas to even think about it.

v In a similar vein, do your dolls have their own hobbies? Do you do photoshoots to represent those hobbies?

 

^ I try. Lauren is into LARP and reenactment, so I tried to improvise some kind of garb for her to take pics of in the parents' garden. For now that's about as good as it gets.

^ Hehe, sometimes! I've taken some pretty nice ones this year, but I think this one might be my favorite:

< Impulse-bought a Mirodoll body at the last meet (it was super cheap!), and now if the secondhand head I just ordered suits it, this could very well be the cheapest doll I've ever managed~ Pretty excited, I gotta say.

v In the same vein as the last question, do you celebrate the holidays with your dolls? How?

 

^ In my own way, I guess. I have little Christmas gifts for them to hold. I'm still working on other holidays. haha

< I need to get a guy doll, I have too many girls...

v When you go away (vacation or other long trips) do you miss your dolls? If so is there one you miss the most?

 

^ YES. I hate leaving my dolls behind, even if it is only for a day! I don't like being away from them, my mind starts thinking of horrible things like "What if the house catches fire" or "what if they get stolen" or other horrible things. I usually try to bring one with me, but i always end up missing all of them >.<

< So...much....drama...urg...Bjd Addicts is getting crazy...and tumblr sucks more than normal. I'm glad Den of Angels is so awesome. Its my safe and happy place!

v How do you display/store your dolls? Are they out there for the world to see or do you keep them stored in their boxes?

 

^ My dolls are not on display -- I have no room to display them, so all of them with one exception live in their carriers. The one exception is my Afghan, who's sitting on my nightstand.

< Ok. There will be NO REPEATS of this morning. Thus we are setting out all our clothes the night before to cut down on chaos.

v Your doll wakes up late in the morning. How do they deal?

 

^ Christian: Much swearing and racing about to get coffee and where he needs to get. If he is having to get Lorelei ready, then he's covering her ears a lot while he says bad words.

v Your doll has an unexpected free afternoon or evening! What do they do?

 

^ Seraphine curls up with a historical fantasy novel and some fruity herbal tea, Irial goes out to a faerie pub/cafe to socialise and Cassiel does some weapons training and fighting exercises.

< Christmas tomorrow and all I can think about is my Withdoll girl en route...

v If your dolls were to say what they were grateful for this holiday season, what would they say?

 

^ They aren't. Except maybe the Joker. And I'm pretty sure no one here want's to know what he'd say he's grateful for....

^ No new dolls for me this holiday season. Oh well I have 2 dolls incoming, so I can manage.

v What did your dolls wish for this year? Will they be getting that present?

 

^ Christian wished for Sebastian to be back home, but since I have been busy with other things and don't have a LoongSoul body incoming, their tender reunion will have to wait. Severus wanted at least part of his robes, and I did get that done, I just haven't sewn on the closures or the faux buttons. And Samir just wanted his ankle fixed, and we took care of that last night. Merry Holidays, dollies!

< 82 degrees Fahrenheit on Christmas Eve in this latitude and longitude is outrageous. I demand a do-over.

^ Weirdly no. I've been looking for a new doll then had to acknowledge to myself that I felt like adding to my current crew's outfits rather than adding to the family. Still planning to add to them at a later date. Just not now. I have started a pullover for my big boy and hope to get it finished by end of December.

V what film would your doll choose to cheer him/herself up?

 

^ Fuyu loves anime, so it's 99% certain he'd go for something like Ghibli or Summer wars, etc.Something cute and inspirational and cheerful.
< I bought two dolls this holiday season, and I feel like I have to live on bread and water for three months to make up for the massive spending :P
v What comfort food would your doll indulge in after a break-up?

 

^ ALL the chocolate. And probably alcohol too. (They're not the most mature bunch out there.)

v If your dolls (were to) celebrate any holidays, which is their favorite?

Christmas has pretty decorations and songs, but Halloween had campy spoopy things and both have sweets and themed outfits! 0o0

^ Jes would not only go to the drag show, she'd haul everyone else along with her.

^ Absolutely! The dolls I ordered in June should be arriving sometime next April (ah, the BJD hobby in all its splendor), Zeke needs a new faceup, I'll be saving up for Sky... I've got lots of plans, haha.

^ I would have to say Alice's Collection, it has the most dolls from different companies and accessories.

^I would like them to have a mechanical mini dragon.

^ It would have to be horns, they have so much variety.

v what's a deal breaker when buying bjds?

 

^ Bad feedback. I only buy secondhand now, because everything I want is unavailable new, and I demand good feedback from any prospective seller. Bad feedback -- especially multiple examples of bad feedback -- mean I don't want to risk my money and time and sanity on dealing with a transaction that has a greater than normal chance of going south.

< Holy god. I have way too many clothes. Way. Way. WAY too many clothes. I need to stop.

v Who's more likely to get the clothing/accessory splurges -- you or your doll(s)?

 

^my dolls, they always have these expensive tastes so i have to reel them in but good thing i know how to find some great deals.

< Trying to decide which doll to start a new layaway with.

VWhats your worse layaway experience?

 

^ My worst layaway experience was early this year through Mint on Card. I had ordered an Illusion Spirit CangXie in October on a six-month layaway, which was fine because that was the turn-around time for IS to MoC. I even paid it off a few weeks early. Shortly before that, IS announced that they were discontinuing all their current dolls after a certain point in time, and I made sure that my October order would not be affected. After being reassured that my order was fine, it *then* turned out that Illusion Spirit had misplaced the October and December pre-orders, and had already filled the March order. There was a lot of bad communication between the two companies, and led to MoC dropping both Illusion Spirit and their sister company Doll Family-H. A similar thing had happened before between MoC and DF-H, and it had taken 9 months before the order was filled. Distraught, my brother ordered a CangXie head from Alice's Collections as a back-up, and I bought one of the in-stock DF-H Jessies at MoC, just to have a back-up to the back-up. Everything eventually worked out in the end, and now I have two CangXie heads and the Jessie, and I am hesitant to do a layaway ever again. =n= It cost me too many nights of sleep.

v Let's cheer it up--what's the best buying experience you ever had?

 

^ Not terribly exciting, but buying my little Kitty Buu from MuDoll went really well. I was able to request that they modify her default face-up, and she shipped within a month!

< Let's see if patrons will outnumber employees today so we can justify being open. I'm at the front desk for the next 7 hours...

v Do you make Doll Related resolutions? If so, what's your biggest one for the coming year?

 

^ I have found that resolutions are not quite possible, or, I cannot really keep them!

< I am planning to get a new job. My dream job would be to work as a librarian.

v What is your favorite style for wigs, and why?

 

^ Hm... Hard to say, it's different for each character. I usually prefer fiber wigs as a personal preference, but the style is totally up to the character.

< It's cooooold... [shivers] I'm all wrapped up in a long sweater and a blanket and I can still feel it

v How are you and your dolls planning on ringing in the new year?

 

^ I'm having a friend over for a mini-party; since she finds bjds interesting, some will probably get pulled out to mess with while she's here. Otherwise, no real plans except maybe getting the studio cleaned up so I can work on them again.

< It's going to suck trying to look for a job out of state, but hopefully the "I want to come back" factor will help, since I clearly won't be put off by things like weather!

V Time for reflection: what doll related thing from the past year are you most proud of?

 

^ I'm proud that i was able to buy Dakota's body and clothes and such. His head had been sitting on my shelf for 3 years...

< I have to work New Years Eve. Oh well, the dolls can party without me.

v What is your main Doll-Related goal for 2016?

 

^ i would like to get my dolls looking nicer( better clothes, face ups ect)

^ GOD DAMMIT TOO SLOW uh um. I liked Usagihime wigs.

^ It's a Hogwarts party here all the freaking time. I'm also exceptionally fond of

v Your doll wants to look spiffy for the New Year's parties! What do they dig out of the closet? Or do they have to hit the shops for a whole new outfit?

 

^ Zeke's got a houndstooth coat, but I sewed it very poorly... Might need to get a new one, haha. Amelia's wearing her velvety green dress, and whatever Nova's wearing, he's gotta make sure it's revealing.

^ I'm most proud of responsibly ordering four dolls in one year!! Thank you layaway!

v If one of you dolls were a person what would you go do with them?

 

^ if any if my dolls were people, I'd apologize, because I gave them all really dark backstories. But particularly, I'd take DI upstairs to the lizard room and let her meet the fearsome baby dragon--I mean panther chameleon.

< I have to feed the reptiles, and hopefully tempt the snake into eating.

v what's the best thing and the worst thing you can say about this hobby?

 

^ The best thing to me is the fun and creative community. The worst is the people outside of the bjd hobby judging us.

< Just 200 more battles before I reach my goal and finish this dumb event...

v Do you want at least one specific doll in each size or are all the dolls you want in the same size range?

 

^ Come to think of it, I pretty much do want dolls from all sizes. My main crew are SDs, but if I had unlimited funds / space I'd have Minis for Hobbits, Dollmore Vitos for Dwarves, tinies for fairies ... no 70+ ones I think, but SD and smaller I could totally see myself owning at least one each size at some point.

< AprilStory's 1+1 event or discount on a single doll? I need the male body and Adrian could pass for a girl ... or do I want Adrienne too? Decisions, decisions!

v How do you decide which doll to get next?

 

^ Whichever character demands a presence in the photostories as well as the written ones is the next one home, or whoever is about to be discontinued. Thankfully, I'm at a point where just about everyone I want to get is at least partially here, so it's just bodies from here on out, with the exception of two heads.

< Oh, this weather. I'm so glad I did Matilda's face-up already, even though I didn't feel well at the time.

v You've gotten the magic doll gift card! What do you go and spend it on?

 

^ Doll Chateau Douglas. At the moment he's next on the list...

< ...though that could definitely change by the time I've saved up enough. =P

v Is your collection finished? If not, do you think it ever will be?

 

^ The main crew has a pretty clear outline, so that group can be "finished" in a sense - once all the leads are home. I hope to get there some time in 2016, if they'd decide on sculpts already. But that still leaves plenty of room for support characters, or different stories, so all in all ... no, I don't think I'll ever be "done".

< Must make up my mind. Today. ARGH.

v Who was your first doll? Do you still own them? Tell us about them

 

^ Yes, my first doll Rowan is still Alpha Male around here! - I fell in love with Volks SDC Arashi because he had that amazing Volks combination of cupcake-cuteness + Attitude going on. One of his sales photos shows him reaching out at the camera like he's about to bum a cigarette. So as soon as he got home, I rolled him a cigarette. (Actually it's a joint. All my mini-sized boys are juvenile delinquents, so they all have plenty of pot and beer and candy. )

< It's so nice to be on vacation while at home, with no family obligations, and no work, and no travelling, and no shopping, and NOTHING! Some of these dolls haven't changed clothes in months or years, so that's what I'm doing today.

v How long does your doll stay in the same outfit? Does s/he have one designated set, or change regularly with your moods?

 

^ They aren't designated to stay in the same outfit, but I've been very lazy and poor to give them all new outfits

< Darn, I want to look at moar doll stuff but I am so tired and broke Dx

v How often do you take pictures of your dolls?

 

^ Not often enough. I have a really nice camera; I need to use it more.

< Things I cannot fathom: why a "maximum support sports bra" doesn't come in the cup sizes that REALLY need that maximum support.

v Is there anything that confuses you about the BJD hobby? What is it and why?

 

^ Judgemental attitudes by people within the hobby. Particularly attitudes along the lines of "It's so childish to do x." We're all adults playing with dolls, get over yourself. Embrace that inner child!

< If I tell myself I can't buy anything at all for my dolls until I get a new job, maybe I'll get one faster? I can only hope, anyway. And hopefully my hours are fixed now at my current job and I can pick up a shift or two...

v What surprised you about the BJD hobby? Something that you didn't know about before you entered it, that you wouldn't have guessed at.

 

^ The Drama tbh. I mean, we're mostly adults that collect expensive dolls, you would think people would be mature, but outside of the DoA safe zone, its a disaster.

< Had an awesome time with my friend and her doll today! We had Sushi with our other friend and then hung out all day

v It is New Year's eve! What will your dolls be doing when the calendar switches over?

 

^ Probably be arguing or behaving in a shockingly immature manner. There will be a handful of New Year's kisses, and probably at least two of the big kids will have given up and gone to bed when the babies were laid down to sleep.

< Job starts Monday~!!! Need to finish some paperwork today and rearrange the room over the weekend~!
