The ^ < v Game!

Oct 20, 2015

    1. ^ I prefer neutrals that can shift with the right face up. Also, I'm not huge on the whole pouty pursed lips thing either (fairyland dolls, I'm looking at you and your beautiful bodies >.>)

< Bleh... Need more ebooks... Gotta get on bf about that...

    4. ^ One of my crew, Tammis (my Jess), is the resin avatar of a favorite tabletop RPG character... an Exalted Sidereal Chosen of Journeys. That game character sort of had a "theme song"... all of the characters in his group did... So, I tend to associate that music with Tam-the-doll just like I did with Tam-the-Exalt. The song is Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer's 'The Mountain'.

Kestrel and Cardinal (Bibiane and Tedros) are resin versions of a favorite MMO character and her partner (The pair in my avatar picture)... I always associate them with a music clip from the City of Heroes game. The Jackpot neighborhood music from Saint Martial. That was their "home ground", and where I always thought of the two of them as living in-game. In text and roleplay, they owned a particular little brownstone across the bay from the Golden Giza.

< *squee* Two "Someones" really special were added to my crew recently. One arrived last Friday... the other should be showing up tomorrow. Grail dolls, these two brothers. I'm grinning like a Cheshire Cat over here. XD

V Which member of your crew were you the most impatient and most excited to unpack?

    5. ^ Any doll named Alex, but also, my "latest" doll - Ringdoll K. I have no idea when this doll became so important to me, but I was so impatient to get him a body, super excited when it finally arrived, and at this exact minute, if I had to pick a favorite he'd be it.

    6. ^ Did you mean a favorite among my crews? If so then definately yes! Sakuya(LM-Innocent Kliff), the one on my profile pic, is my favorite right now since I always wanted a SD sized girl and a sleeping doll and she is the two combined! Also she is so photogenic that almost every composition and angles and outfits look good on her......!

< Charlotte is coming back from the face up artist!!!!!! So excited!!!!!!!

    7. ^ It's a toss up between my two Souldoll boys, who were both Christmas dolls but arrived in June, and my Illusion Spirit CangXie, who was ordered in October and didn't actually arrive until June, because of inter-company drama. My Doll Chateau body was about in the six-month range too. I tip my hat to the people who have the wherewithal to wait for over a year on a doll.

< Too many things are going on right now and it's making me fretful.

    8. ^ Elli, my CustomHouse Mars for Valentine (2005 version, which was actually released in 2006). I had him in hand less than 4 days after placing the order. Like he was shipped the second the order was confirmed, zipped through customs, and would have been delivered faster but my address had been incorrectly written (by me) and I had to go pick him up from the incoming international airport in our area.

      < I have a lot I need to do today. x_x

    9. ^ My fastest company order ever was Sannru's body... One of the very early Type 2 Delf bods from the days when Luts was still selling CP dolls. They had one on-hand. I ordered the bod and it shipped a couple of days later. I had it within a week. XD

< *giggles like a silly thing* Never did I EVER think I'd have these two. Never. Not in a hundred years. But... yeah. :dance

Kenji and Tian... a Volks SDGr Okita and his "Romantic Glace" version brother. (If they seem a little familiar, it's because they're a "modern world" take on my first two dolls; Harumatsu and Tien Jen, the Shiwoo twins.)

V Is there anyone in your crew you have multiple versions or incarnations of? The same character at different ages for instance, or one "Original" and one "Alternate Universe" version?

    10. ^ Yep. I used to have more, but I have scaled back (believe it or not) to only Alex having different versions. It's mostly age with him, though I do have a couple different scale versions, and one AU where he's a unicorn. It's better just not to ask.
I also have Joker and Harley Quinn in different scales (and two SD versions of the Joker), and Batman twice, and I'll be ordering one more Batman soonish, so I'll have 1\6, 1\4 and 1\3. With the DC dolls it was more an accident. I started and was happy with 1\4 scale, but the two SD Jokers were just....perfect, and both were sold out molds I found at the same time so they had to happen. Which means I need Batman in all the sizes too. Because Batman.

      > Beer and Pizza. 'Nuff said.

V Repeat question because I can't be the only one: Is there anyone in your crew you have multiple versions or incarnations of? The same character at different ages for instance, or one "Original" and one "Alternate Universe" version?

    11. ^ I've got two Severus Snapes, one a teenage AU version and one who is very much the bad-tempered Potions Master of Hogwarts. (He's currently hanging out in the Head Box.) I used to have two Reis, a more realistic and a more stylized one. I have two Xiahou Duns, one more based of the historical records and a bit off Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and the mini one is a straight lift from Dynasty Warriors. I kind of want to get a slightly older version of Lorelei, since she is sort of time-travelly. My Lilly and Lily are not the same character, despite having the same name.

      < Oh, body, quit it.

v Anyone else? Is there anyone in your crew you have multiple versions or incarnations of? The same character at different ages for instance, or one "Original" and one "Alternate Universe" version?

    12. ^ Gonna break the streak and say "nope". I'm not saying it couldn't happen someday, but as of right now I'm happy to have one of each, and I'm not done with that yet either ... multiples are great for characters that undergo a lot of changes in the run of their stories though and I like seeing them. If I were to be able to get hold of a second Stella head I might do something similar with her ... just the head though, not a whole second body. Then again, I might just mod it as a sleeping head.

< I still need to sew all the things ... but at least a good chunk of doll projects are done. Finally.

    13. ^ My Ringdoll K, whom I'm obsessed with, is my current big doll project. He needs lots of work, tattoos\symbols all over, an intricate scar, expensive clothes - and since his hair is glued to his head, I can't amend or redo his faceup without redoing the whole thing.

      > Action figures....so many action figures...SHIP FAST PEOPLE I wants them now.

    15. ^ I'm such a sucker for awesome noses. The bigger, more interesting the nose, the better. I'm currently dying over Souldoll Freya because her nose is so amazing. Nice mouths are the next thing to get my attention, especially wide mouths on guys and really expressive mouths on girls, both extra serious and extra happy.

< Oh, man, today was just horrible. I am done adulting, thank you and good night.

< Today was mostly awful only redeemed by quiet comfortable hanging out on the sofa. No repeats please.

< oww. I don't want to be a girl any more. *curls up and dies*

v So you've found a sculpt you'd like for one of your OCs. How do you decide on their "options"? Extra joints if available, option hands, skin tone ...

    19. ^ one part necessity, the rest basically how much I've been paid lately. Extra joints, I have to go for, cause I can't just get that later without replacing the whole body. Option hands, I'll grab if I have money. Those can be purchased later if need be. Skin tone is a part of character. I'll pay way extra to have my doll match my vision of their character (plus, some companies just have a nice tan, and that helps.)

< I have a problem. I'm on layaway for Iplehouse Kamau, about to buy Rania, and planning Carina...

    20. ^ *looks at her six-and-a-half Iples* I may. :sweat Luckily I'm mostly done with the girls and don't like the male Iple bodies enough to justify buying another of the same type ... between three basic body types plus bust sizes, heel feet, and interchangeable SID and nYID hands, there's just so much more variety with the girls. If Iple offered heads separately, I'd own at least two more of their male sculpts though.

< Sew all the guy basics! I just realized I'm expecting to buy at least one more full male doll and have one on order, with exactly zero spare clothes ... and knowing my doll luck, they'll arrive at a time where I won't be able to make clothes for them. Can't have naked boys sharing the shelf with the girls! I just hope some of the stuff will fit them.

v Is there a preferred type of garment you like to have ready for an incoming doll? (e.g. with girls I usually have a pair of leggings or a simple dress since they're likely to fit.) If you don't sew, do you buy "blind" if it's a body type / size of doll you don't own yet?

    21. ^ Styles over here depend entirely on the individual doll... I usually know ahead of time what kind of thing the doll is going to wear, so I try to have at least one of whatever that is ready for them before they arrive. I'm pretty good at patterning from measurements, and making alterations, so even when I'm buying or sewing blind, it usually works out.

< Brown velvet for Shonokin's coat... acquired! Now to actually make the thing.

They're the most versatile photography models in my experience, the most fun to sew for and while being big enough to have a lot of physical "presence" they aren't *SO* huge that a small tribe of them would threaten to take over my house. That is to say... they're big enough to be fun, but still small enough to fit into my display cabinets.

    38. ^ I haven't had that problem personally, because I always keep a spare thousand-dollar bill stashed in my sofa-cushions in the event of dolly emergency. ^.^ But when it comes to simultaneous dolls, always go by urgency. If it's an LE, buy now. Now now now. If it's basic & can be acquired later, buy later. If they're both LE, buy the one you love more. If they're both LE and you love them equally, I would say flip a coin-- unless you have that emergency money stashed in your sofa-cushions, of course, in which case, grab 'em both.

< Got back from Japan 2 days ago and am still jet-lagged out of my skull-- can't tell night from day and am prone to falling asleep mid-step like a cat. *_* But my dolls have nice new shoes that they want photographed, and I also have SO many cherry-blossom photos to edit! And most of my ideas come from stuff I buy them :sweat So for exemple since I have a few mugs and a fake starbucks cup, one of them will be an avid coffee drinker :3

< speaking of coffee, I need coffee =A=

v similar question: if your dolls are characters, are they usually characters planned before or after you get the doll?

    47. ^ Before. Even when I really love a sculpt, I don't buy them until they "tell me who they are". If a doll inspires me enough to come up with an idea how they fit in with my bunch, they get to come home. :) (I'm a bit more lenient with heads because I can always use an NPC or three, as long as they fit on bodies I already have.) The details of the character(s) often only get worked out after the doll comes home though. Even with old OCs, having them in doll form helps me flesh out their backstories and stuff.

< my sis wants to go to the zoo tomorrow but my car broke down and I have no way to get there.

v Are all your dolls' characters your own OCs or do you have fan dolls or "resincarnations" of others' OCs?

    48. ^ Most of mine are my own creations, but I do have a couple of exceptions... D was based on Mari Akino's Count D from Petshop of Horrors (my favorite manga character-), Issun is my tiny resin version of Amaterasu's poncel sidekick from the video game O-kami, Nightengale started out as a resin take on Nue from Harukanaru Toki no Naka de but pretty quickly ended up going his own way character-wise, and Imad is a chibi/kid version of Scirocco, one of the NPCs from the old City of Heroes MMO.

I'm not sure if my Monkey King counts as someone else's IP or not... He's a bit of a mash-up of my favorite things about both Sun Wukong and Lord Hanuman; two very different mythical individuals who share the same title.

< I wanted to go outside and work on my garden today, but it's raining again. Yay, spring. <_<

V Passing the question along, because it's interesting... Are all your dolls' characters your own OCs or do you have fan dolls or "resincarnations" of others' OCs?

    49. ^ Both. I have more OC inspired dolls than fan dolls, but the fan dolls are catching up. I ran out of OCs I wanted to shell... but not dolls I wanted. Lol

      > Work sucks. I want to go home.

V Also passing on the Q because I like it: Are all your dolls' characters your own OCs or do you have fan dolls or "resincarnations" of others' OCs?

    50. ^ They're a mixed lot. Mostly they are my own OCs, but I do have a handful of fan dolls. ^^

< Speaking of the fan dolls, I ought to be sewing for Twilight Sparkle and Snape, but noooo. Playing on the computer instead.

v Is there a fan doll you'd like to have, but just haven't done for whatever reason?

    51. ^ Loads! If I had unlimited funds and space, I'd have half the crew from DS9 shelled (including a Klingon-modded Taregan for Worf), plus Caramon and Raistlin from the DragonLance chronicles (Iple Evan for Caramon and Dollshe Saint for Raistlin). But alas ... never going to happen.

< can has pizza. With the huge chunk I'm about to cross off the wishlist I probably won't be able to swing the huge-@r$โ‚ฌ wig order I was going to do ... oh well. The boys will take a while to come home, and one of the wigs I absolutely need is currently sold out in the colour I want anyway.

v Passing on the question because it's fun. Is there a fan doll you'd like to have, but just haven't done for whatever reason?

    52. ^ There are many that I'll probably never do because I'll lose the motivation for them halfway through, since most things I am a fan of and would consider creating a doll for go through my attention in cycles(Devil is a Part-Timer). I think the five I want have all made it past the 'looking for the sculpt' phase simply because they are characters that are my absolute favourites and I greatly enjoy reading/watching or re-reading/watching on a regular basis instead of just getting the inkling to re-watch/re-read every now and then (or every few years or so). The rest (Sherlock Holmes, Peter Pan) are because they have real life actors to portray them in multiple medias and I'd be paranoid of the doll reminding me more of the actor playing the character than the original character from the book and that would annoy the heck out of me.

< Dun wanna be at work anymore... Work is boring... It's a lovely, gloomy, rainy day outside and I'm stuck where I can't enjoy it to the fullest! I should be at home sitting by the window with a fluffy blanket, a cup of hot chocolate, and a darn good book to read.

v Passing the question on again, Is there a fan doll you'd like to have, but just haven't done for whatever reason?

    53. ^lucille from Crimson peak. She's a strong character, which I admire in her, has beautiful costumes, a great storyline (and a potential Thomas in my ringdoll Jack!) and I just shelled her. Something in me won't let me buy her.

<if I get through this break up I get to buy the doll.

V passing this down. Is there a fan doll you want, but haven't done for some reason?

    54. ^ could say "Yes". La Legende de Temps, Ludwig. Haven't done because he doesnt released yet. And I want just a head, hope Julia will sell it separately. Other dolls I havent done yet are on layaway^^

      > May 1st - I'll go to the dollstown site and will make an order, yay! Can't wait!

v Extreme doll photos or studio portraits? (Extreme - I mean photos in the water or without the dollstand on the stones or some paints like blood, mud, ashes, or any outside photos which could be dangerous for the doll. :wiggle )

    55. ^ Studio portraits. I don't really have anywhere to go to photograph my dolls, my apt sucks, my yard sucks, most of my dolls should be in city environments anyway (and I live in STL....the city is dangerous XD) and when I take pictures of my dolls it's often just to show off some newness rather than take "story" photos. I always have ideas for cool photoshoots, but I lack the ability to make them happen.

      > Payday is friday and I am planning on buying many doll parts. Excited!

V Have you ever had a doll that was long discontinued suddenly available again? Did you buy it?

    56. ^ Not so much, but I am *really* considering getting a renewal Lilis Liv from Dollmore because I love that sculpt so much that just one isn't enough. XD Also, the thought of having the magnetic headcap makes me giddy. (If Dollmore offers Miso again, though, I'm pouncing on her. And probably Amos. Those are two of my big dolly regrets.)

< Attention KMart shoppers, we have a Blue Light Special on surly teenage boys! =n=

v This is a interesting question, so I will pass it down:

    57. ^ Not exactly long, but Iple Bianca's LE order period was through by the time I could afford her. She came back for a holiday event and you bet I got her. Granado Pancho is discontinued but available right now, and I'll be getting his head at the end of the month. (I have another MP purchase incoming and just placed an order for an IOS dude who's on sale at a 40% discount so Pancho has to wait a bit, but he will come home.)

< eep. Never had this much incoming resin before, and the car's in the shop too - coolant leak. Last time that cost me half a doll. :sigh

    59. ^ I always have more than one doll I am craving so feel like I look constantly, I have a new girl I paid for on Thursday and was already looking at MSD boys the day after :-{

      (Absolutely love your doll Rook_Sever)

      > my SD arrived today (third one but only one here) and one of the first things I did was a height comparison with my 19 month old :-D

v if you could go back in time and change one thing you have done in this hobby what would it be and why?

    60. ^ I would have placed another Elfdoll order. I had just bought a RS Eun-A when a normal skin one came back for sale, and a normal skin Vivien too. I would have liked to get both, but RS Eun-A had just shipped ... so I didn't. :sigh Small regret since I have a bunch of wonderful dolls, but regret nonetheless.

< I don't want to adult any more. Can has doll time?

v How long is your wishlist? (Or if you're "done", what's the longest it ever was?)
