The ^ < v Game!

Oct 20, 2015

    1. ^ Some of my dolls have names with a heavens them (Orion, Apollo, Starshine, Moonbeam, etc), but the great majority have either Celtic or biblical names which is a theme in its own right. I have a great passion for my ancestry (most of which is Celtic), and the naming theme highlights that and also that I grew up in a highly religious setting. If you poke at my profile most of my dolls are named between those three distinct themes. I don't really have any plain or common named characters that I can think of off the top of my head.

< I am eager to get word on my order through Alice's collection but it's likely to be another month before my doll ships. I'm excited and impatient.

v Passing the question down because I think it's really interesting and I'm not sure I answered it well. Do any of your dolls have names or personalites, quirks, etc that are references to some of your favorite things?

      < my wishlist is getting too long ;_;

    3. ^ a lot of my dolls have names in French, one of them is even French. I'm not from France have no French ancestry, but am fluent and love the language. As for quirks, some of them have poetic tendencies, because that makes them more fun to write. One of them has an anxiety disorder based off a more extreme version of my own

<i should be banned from the iplehouse website. There go my taxes.

    6. ^somewhere in between. Sometimes I see a sculpt and I just know that's the one, and I need it. I'll buy it the instant I can in that case. Usually, there's a lot of thinking and waiting

    9. ^ No, but I wish I had. I've given up hope, but if Iple ever did any real head event where we could order what we actually want (instead of the "you get like five minutes to scramble for the 10ish surplus heads we have of random sculpts" bs), I'd get at least another Stella head to mod as sleeping head ... :sigh

< yeah, sleep. Great invention, that. Now how do I get back in motion?

    10. ^:mwahaha I adore lists! I composed my to-do-list in the October, 2015. It has ~140 points like "seam removal for XXX" or "sew an outfit/make a wig for YYY" etc. And now there are 20 undone points rest. Half of them requires just money and planned, and half is totally to handcraft. Next one is "to make Raven feather Cape from the Bloodborne" for my Hunter :)

      > and I want to go home and sew it so much!

v Do you prefer to make all staff by yourself or to buy it?

    11. ^ I prefer to make my clothes and props. If I could do glasswork, I'd make my own eyes too, but I'm a danger around fire. I can make my own wigs, but if I can find what I need in the size I need, I buy those. Shoes are really the big challenge, mostly because I'd need to make lasts for all the styles and sizes, and that gets pretty time-consuming. So I buy shoes too, when I find the right pairs. But I'm rarely happy with them. I'd rather make my own.

< Hand injury! Nice way to start the day! And the boy-child wants to give his SD girl a spa day, since his MSD went so well...

      v What's the most unusual style choice you've made with a doll--wig, clothes, face-up, body-blushing, etc?

    12. ^ Honestly, I don't think any of my dolls are all that unusual. Alex's green\purple wig was kind of different way back when I first did it - but these days everyone has every-color-of-the-rainbow wigs cut in asymmetrical styles and whatever, so it's really not a thing anymore. I would say Skullface was my most unusual when I did him, because up until then all my Kara Klums were pretty XD
      He got to be weird.

      > I AM OFF TODAY MEH HEH HEH HEH!!! So far I have wasted time by doing nothing.

< All glory to the EMP shipping box of infernal doom. It holds five wrapped-up SDs. Wicked rad.

v Is there a doll you'd like to have even though they wouldn't fit in with your current crew (and you probably wouldn't get them for that very reason, but bear with me)? Who is it and what makes them stand out?

    14. ^ EID Arvid. He's gorgeous, manly, and his face and proportions are too realistic and he's just too much MAN and too much DOLL for me to easily manage but oh man do I want one.

< I am so very sleepy. My sleep cycle is way off at the moment. =_=*

v Adapting the question slightly, is there a doll on your wishlist that isn't like any of the rest of your dolls but you feel like you REALLY need them anyway regardless of scale, style, or other differences?

    15. ^ They aren't actually on my wishlist, but the FL RealFee fantasy body sculpts are pretty much all hovering right on the edge of one of them showing up someday. They don't fit with any of my groups, they're a different size from anything else I have, and I don't have any existing characters that they fit, but I am such a sucker for both the engineering, and for fantasy sculpts! (This is how I ended up with my small-but-growing set of Soom tinies.) I'd also love one of the AileenDoll fantasy tinies (cyclops, polymorph dragon, etc) for the same "cool fantasy sculpts!" reason, though that's at least been partially calmed down by the Becky I ordered last year. :)

< Two days left. Breathe. Then get stuff packed. I'm hoping I can have all but the TV, computer, and few things I'll need down by tomorrow, so I can use the cinema pass I found to see Zootopia!

v Have you ever actually ordered that doll you like that doesn't fit with any of the rest, and how did it work out for you?

    16. ^ Yes, he is a DoD Kellan and he was the only guy and the only large doll in my crew. And he was the only one whose face-up is more towards the gothic style while all my other dolls are the "daily life" style Orz. He is gorgeous and I love him but he is just too stand-out among my crews so I end up sending him to a face-up artist, and it is still progressing so we will see how it turns out!

< I really can't wait for my Charlotte to come home from the face-up artist even though I just send her to the artist a few days ago:XD:

v Have you ever bought something that doesn't fit into your doll's other clothing/shoes/wigs/eyes/accessories but then that item turns out to be your favorite and most frequently used item?

    17. ^ Hmmm, no, I don't think so. I don't usually buy anything that isn't part of the style most of my boys are, but I have gotten full set outfits that I meant to keep together but instead have been scattered among different dolls so that specific pieces are considered parts of different dolls most frequently worn outfits? XD In particular, I have one of the Soom BiWeekly outfits for Megagem, and the belt is the only thing being worn by an actual Megagem on a consistent basis... The pants are part of my Dragondoll 72cm's outfit, the shirt gets passed around my 62-65cm dolls, the outer shirt/jacket thing is usually worn by my 60cm Delf, the necklace is actually also being worn by a Megagem(at the moment, otherwise it's on a 70cm Doll-Zone), the cuff links are being used as shoulder guards for an MSD's usual outfit, and the cloak is usually worn by my 70cm Dollshe/Soom hybrid when he's put together.

< I should really do doll stuffs for my birthday tomorrow, but I also want to go to the archery range and the cat adoption center and see Zootopia again and go to Hobby Lobby and go to Minnehaha and I don't think I'll have time for doll photos or anything... Guess that just means I'll be carting a doll around all day >w>

v If/when you buy full set outfits, do they usually stay as a full set or do pieces get mixed and matched between different dolls?

    22. ^ I *needed* Rei to look a very certain way--mature, more realistic, a little sly. I spent months browsing and searching, but the aesthetic at the time was sweet, chibish, young anime boys. Dollshe Hound had just come out, and he was certainly more mature than most of the boys out there, but oh, the company photos were *terrible*! I took a gamble on him anyway, and while I was awaiting shipping on him, Haute Doll had their Tensiya Hound, and I was immediately relieved. I've tried a couple of other dolls as Rei over the years but I keep coming back to my Hound, and finally he's where I'm totally happy with his look.

    24. ^ Yep, sorta. They're from the same story, and before Stella was released I was considering Eva for my first, but she didn't quite fit. Once I had Stella on order, I realized Eva could be another main character instead because I still really wanted one ... so she was ordered before Stella even made it home. :sweat I'm that type of crazy.

    26. ^ I suppose technically there are three? I cycled through about five sculpts trying to find a doll for Nek only to finally obtain the sculpt I originally first wanted for her, which was the limited sculpt Soom Beryl that had been proving highly elusive to find, about four and a half years after I had originally decided to shell her into a doll. And of course if I was shelling Nek into a doll I needed Byrnar as a doll, too, only I couldn't for the life of me find a sculpt that I liked for him. For a while he was going to be Soom Lazule, but after seeing owners photos I concluded he wouldn't be a good fit for the character at all. And then right after I finally found a Soom Beryl on the second hand market Soom released their Prince Charming sculpt, which was spot-on perfect for Byrnar, and I had to start a second layaway for him, ended up paying him off early, and they arrived within a week of each other. Talk about dolls/characters that were meant to be together. The last would be a character doll, the second character doll I originally wanted to do now ending up being the fifth (and planned final) put together, said doll being the X-Men's Nightcrawler (from the comics, not the movie, so nice and swashbuckler-y) who I was originally trying to limit to dolls with actual elf ears since I wasn't as familiar with modding and blushing then as I am now(how I had planned to do the hands and tail I had no idea, it's probably better he's the fifth instead), so the first sculpt I planned was Soom Chrom, who ended up being too serious looking for the harmless blue fuzzball, so I sold that sculpt and kept looking and was never satisfied until FINALLY a friend had me looking at Supiadoll, which I rarely ever looked at because I thought they only had girl dolls, and I realized there was a little tab that said "BOY DOLLS (65cm)" and bam, right there at the top was Supiadoll Jacob, who actually does come with his own elf ears and has the perfect mix of features between his original art in Excalibur and the art by Ed McGuinness and the newer art by Todd Nauck(I can't help but just love his style). So he's going to be ordered as soon as my Tax Return checks come in, again over four years after I originally started searching for Soom Chrom on the second hand market the first time around... Apparently I'm very patient when it comes to finding the right sculpt? Sorry, I'll stop with the run-on sentences now XD

< Tax Return, come home already! I have a doll and a body to buy before sales end!

    29. ^ I actually am at the "they're all home" stage. I'm still acquiring bodies for the floating heads, and debating whether I'm keeping a couple, but I only really started saying that "everyone's home" in the last year. I got my twin girls Audrey and Zoe, and I felt like that was it. I knew for the most part what characters were important to bring home, but I never limited myself to a set number. I always figured it would probably be well into the double-digits. (I have gotten two complete and total surprise dolls since then. What???)

< I need to think of a better name for one of my dolls. I can't really call him "Lord Sparklebutt" indefinitely.

    30. ^ A couple of times actually. Sadly it never stays true.....My collection has remained completely fluid from my first doll up until now.
I don't have anything on order atm, and I have one planned doll for this year I have yet to order, and possibly one that is a gift that I'm pretty sure I'm getting (XD) but other than that, I don't want much right now. Though it is strange not to have anything that I'm waiting on right now.

^^ BOO TOO LATE. Not really....unless you count my RD K, who's name is John Doe as that was what I referred to him as while I was developing his character. It's too late for him now, that's all I can see him as, so it's his real name.

    32. ^ Up until this year I've been dead against layaways, because even though the price would be easier on my finances thanks to being spread out, I'd also not be guaranteed to be able to pay every layaway on time (what if I had a sudden, important expense like my washing machine breaking down and having to buy a new one? this kind of thinking). Now I have 3 dolls on layaway.

Robbie would take his son to the zoo or the aquarium or something father-son bonding like that. Avery would go to visit his younger brother at boarding school (surprise visit) because he doesn't take much time off, and he rarely sees his little brother.

    35. ^ I often find myself wanting to do doll stuff instead of the things I should be doing XD It happens very rarely, but sometimes I do say screw it to being an adult and instead of doing the dishes and taking out the trash right when I get home I whip out my camera and a doll and do a photoshoot, or go through outfits to see if I want to change anyone's. V do you have that doll that sometimes you "forget" is there but you still love them and would never sell them ?

    41. ^ Actually at the moment all my dolls get the same attention. I'm relative new in the hobby. But I'm not quite sure, what would happen if my taste would change completly. but I guess Chloe and Eliyah are my really favorite sculpts. I think I could never sell them *-*
      > Is is just me pressing F5 when waiting for details? On shipping paged, when chatting and try to buy a doll and then the person goes offline.. noooo ^^

      > I feel like my dolls are so much more complete with blushed hands.

V What makes you really feel like your dolls are complete, or at least in a good place?

    43. ^the right faceup and a good outfit. So I have a fair few in need right now. There's been a few "can't pass this up!" Deals in the MP lately, so I have a few waiting for faces.

< oops. I just Bought a head that doesn't go on any of my floating bodies.

V have you ever impulse bought a doll, or a head? How did it work out for you?

    44. ^UMMMM, yeah quite a few heads (6ish) as a matter of fact. I've gotten inexpensive heads from the MP and practice heads from my favorite sellers when they go on sale. I have fun with them, practice different techniques, or mod the heck out of them, some have turned out really well, others became characters in my AU, only one is a wreck. They rotate through and use a body for a while then go back in the head box. Some will be NPC types, background characters in photos.

v Have you ever impulsed bought a doll, regretted it until it arrived and fell in love with it.

    45. ^ No (real) regrets so far ... I live in a customs-happy country which makes re-selling an automatic loss, so I tend to make extra sure I really do want them before buying any doll. I was unsure for a while about a head I got in a split - she was LE at the time and I hadn't seen owner pics. So I was nervous until I saw her in person, at which point I realized she really was perfect. :)

< Half my holidays done and I haven't sewn a stitch. I need to get the uniform jacket started at the very least, this Saturday is my only chance for fitting. Oh well. At least I'm getting somewhere with my doll stuff.

    46. ^ i should be doing my biology homework or applying for scholarships in Victoria. Instead, I'm searching for a coat for my new soom girl, and another coat for my dollzone boy. Pirate stuff that suits their characters is a pain to find.

< maybe I'll take a break. To Netflix!

    48. ^ Oh yeah, I do that with my face-ups all the time, though admittedly I never have the "this is amazing" to most of my face-ups--there's almost always something I feel like I missed on. I go back and fix things a lot, and I have a list of "who gets the next fresh face-up" in the back of my head. I'm still working through my son's dolls, because his two oldest dolls needed refreshing.

< Oh Souldoll Freya...I love you so much. @3@

v To flip the question, have you done a face-up, mod, or blushing where you look at it and go "my gosh, I cannot believe that*I* did something that amazing!!" ?

    53. ^ I consider myself a "casual collector". I like making characters for my dolls but I don't have any pre-existing OCs. I just make it up as I go along. I enjoy looking at my dolls and taking pictures, but I don't reach the level of "bonding" or obsession as others do, I think. Sometimes I wish I did, haha.

< Tokyo Metro, how I will miss you.

    55. ^ I'd go to Ireland with Katie. She's half Irish and her Dad's family still live there :) Explore the countryside by day, play sessions in the pub at night ... that'd be fun.

< Stupid cold. I had plans! Oh well. More sewing, I guess.

< Ignore finals. More games. Much despair.

    59. ^ Not at all! He is a grumpy little turd (I say that with the most affection manageable) and if he needed to do anything, he would much rather not do it before 11 AM.

< I am not a morning person either; less so when I Skyped until 4AM with one of my long distance besties.

    60. ^ My grumpiest doll is probably Alex, and not much makes him happy. Coffee and chocolate come the closest tho.
My happiest doll is most likely Joker - who, as a Ringdoll Norman Dark, is never grumpy! XD All he ever does is smile. But I'm sure Batman could change that.
