^ I'd have to say Aenon took the most effort. He's a hybrid; a RS Long head in lilac resin on a colour-matched IMPL Star v1.0 male body. I first had to purchase his head from RS, which didn't require any more effort than any other RS purchase. I send the head for a faceup before even purchasing a body for it. I did a lot of research and inquiring before I found the body I wanted, and found out it was possible to get it in the colour I wanted. I paid for the body and sent a physical resin sample to IMPL to match with. Then, it took from April till September to get the body - through no fault of IMPLdoll, I feel I should add - because Canada Post "lost" my resin sample. I spent weeks wrangling with Canada Post over my "lost" package, which mysteriously turned up once I started making noises about claiming the postage and insurance. The whole thing was a bit of a nightmare. Unfortunately, the entire debacle ultimately seems to have affected how I feel about the doll itself. He should be really special to me, but instead, every time I look at him I get annoyed and remember how frustrated and angry I was with Canada Post and how much of a pain in the ass he was to bring home.

V Is there that one doll (or more) who's been on your wish list for a while but that you keep putting off purchasing for whatever reason?

 

^ well, midnight is a character I want, and I know either resinsoul, or impldoll or any of the places that do custom colours can make, but I keep delaying on ordering him for some reason. Just haven't found the right face

v how do you feel about fantasy coloured resin?

 

^ Being the owner of three blue dolls, three green dolls, a purple doll and a coral red doll, I guess it's safe to say I like fantasy colours a lot.

^ yes, one of them I'm still battling to make work (I'm going to need to blush his head blue to go with his body...), one of them is waiting on a body, and one is waiting on a head.

The light seemed to dance in the darkening courtyard, flitting through his long black hair, flashing from his blades, flirting with all who watched drawing them closer. Ignoring the growing crowd Micah continued to go through his forms, taking his time to breathe and hold each pose a moment before moving on. The crowd saw a dance of movements, his hair acting as a silk screen, a distraction, from the deadly point of his blade. But, to Micah his movements were slow, deliberate, each form and movement’s name sliding through his mind like silk, the sound of his own slow breathing and his body screaming to go faster, his body and mind letting go of his anger, his guilt, his desire to make amends. In that moment for Micah he was completely alone, ten years old, his hair just starting to brush his shoulders standing in a field the sound of his father calling forms echoing in his ear. (micah is a ds saint)

V Which comes first for you, the character or the doll?

 

^ Sometimes a bit of both? I sometimes find a sculpt that I absolutely love, know that they are important and need to come home, but I don't know who they are, and then comes the fun process of face-ups and eyes and wigs and playing until they let me know who they are. But then there are certain characters that I know I need and want home, and the hunt begins for just the right doll.

v Have you ever participated in a doll-item swap or gift exchange? What sort of things do you like to send out or receive?

 

^I have not, as I'm afraid of getting burned. My best friend did, and she sent out a brand wig and recieved a wonderful pair of spats for her tiny doll. Always makes me wish I did!

<I'm in WTB mode for everything omigosh. I don't even know what i want to buy, I just feel like buying all the things!

vWhat is your go-to haircolor for your dolls? Why?

 

^ black (or dark brown). Same for eyes! No idea why.

v what is the most important part on a doll for you? (Face sculpt, joiting, option parts, etc.)

 

^ probably the face sculpt, though I've had to make hybrids to make faces and bodies of characters come together.

V have you ever had a doll you bought a little more impulsively? How did that work out?

 

^ some of my OT dolls I bought on impulse. It worked out okay wince they weren't that expensive.

v What's the longest you've had to wait for a doll?

 

^ I've made a few impulse buys. With one exception, they've never worked out for me. The exception, of course, is my little soldier Liam (Lumedoll Blaze), whom I love to bits. He may be getting his long-awaited partner this year.

ETA// @Hime_Takamura 's question - A year. From Dollshe and I literally sold the doll two weeks after I got it. Never again will I ever purchase ANYTHING from Dollshe.

< @geishacookie me too! I have a mighty need to spend All The Money on All The Things. Mostly it's clothes for the boys and itty-bitty military equipment for Liam, but yeah...lots of other unspecified stuff too lol. "WTB mode" is a good name for it.

^ oh, how could I not? Just a warning, this is more a character telling her story in vague-ish metaphors with abuse of ironic parallelism than a story, but here it is. When Man Discovered Fire (possible content warning.. I'm not sure if I have to Warn, but to be safe.) (Grim is going to be a soom Gluino Mechanical Vampire head in an old dollzone body, and Jo is going to a feeple Angela on soom cass' abyss rhapsody body)

^ Volks Tohya. Of all the dolls that have made my heart stop over the years, he's probably the only one I still haven't been able to get. @_@ There's just something about those eyes...they're knowing eyes.

^ DollClans Vezeto. I have absolutely no need or place for a 70+cm doll in my crew, but ohhhh boy if I did... That nose! That beautiful profile! That nose! Ohhh my goodness I love him.

^ Who hasn't? I put Alex in this outfit last year at Doll-A-Kon.It is literally a dress for a boy. If he were real, I'd have been stabbed. And then the other Alexes would have stabbed me out of principle.

^ My HZ white wizard outfit in Yo-sd scale. It's so beautiful and I am terrified of staining it so no one ever gets to wear it.

v How old is your oldest doll? Was it your first, or did you acquire it later?

 

^ My current oldest doll is a Leekeworld Oatmeal head on a Souldoll body. I got his head in fall 2014, so from that point, he's about one and a half! (I got a Leekeworld Mihael head in 2011 but I haven't done much with him except for give him a couple of faceups...)

< My godson is so cute! He is only six months so he can't technically talk yet but he can kind of say 'hi' and one of my sister's friends said hi to him and he said hi back and all of them squealed and it was adorable.

v Have you ever just had a moment when your heart just swells up with feels and you're like man, I love that doll! Describe the last moment that happened. Which of your dolls was it? What were you doing at the time?

 

^ Oh man, that happens every time I change a doll's clothes, or take his picture, or pose him, or just walk past him. I guess the last one would've been either Reika (Volks SDGr Ryoya), who I just finished dressing in a fetching black pullover & turquoise plaid bondage pants, or else Laika (Volks SD13 Tony), who recently came to a meetup with me and stood there very dashingly all day in these black thigh-high leather boots that he can't even sit down in. These guys are just so cool.

< I've got so much shopping and errands to do to get ready for my trip to Japan in 2 weeks! Time to get into action mode. I need a new pair of jeans, three of those squeezy travel-bottles, download more music to my new phone, call the credit-card companies, fix the zipper on my backpack, decide which doll is coming with me....

v Is your doll a traveller or a homebody?

 

^ Definitely a traveler, both story-wise and in actuality. Christian has been to NYC with me several times, he goes on long visits, he always gets to go all the places. XD

^well, frost needs his mods done. Thats an fTM mod. Jo's aesthetic is my current adventure. Her body is going to be mine very soon and I want to do the black and red thing, but.. Who knows what she'll pick

^ Ichigo has/had a theme song for a long-while. I'm not sure it fits him anymore but it was Shiny Toy Guns "Le Disko".

^ Little Liam refuses a wig. I didn't do anything about it. He's bald and proud of it XD

^ 150USD. It was Kit's fullset outfit and totally worth it.

^ sewing a vest for my girl. I am at my 9th trial. Hopefully, this time the back section will just be perfect. Then, I'll need to do another one with a wider collar.

^ If my doll had a dream it would probably be a nightmare about her sister's murder.

^ My favorite thing about this hobby is that it fosters creativity and encourages other creative hobbies, like sewing, painting, knitting, etc., all revolving around our beautiful dolls.

v What first drew you to AJBDs in the first place?

 

^ I wished to make clothes for them.

V has your doll been asking you for a brother/sister?

 

^ Yep. Worst of all is an incoming one who isn't even in the main story who has decided she'd quite like her little sisters (and yes, that's plural) home as well. I'm doomed.

< I might bend the "no Minis" rule in favor of said sisters if they can look in scale with the big ones. The DiM and Dollstown kids seem to be capable of that ... DiM Happy equals Dollstown 7yr girls ... a basic DiM Happy Amelie and Dollstown Elf hybrid Annabeth, and of course a DiM Love 3.0 body for Adrienne because it's just so much more natural than the stylized AprilStory senior girl. Did I mention I still have story dolls to shell?

v Have you ever bought a doll you never thought you'd get? Why?

 

^ Ha, yeah. I got an extra-tiny on an impulse. XD She's a great favorite of mine now.

v To expand, is there a size or type of doll that you never thought you'd get, but broke down and got one anyway?

 

^ Pretty much half the dolls I own. Any Volks, CP, Minimees, Tinies, 70cm and fan dolls. That might actually be more than half my dolls :\

V Any companies you own dolls from that you weren't a fan of at first?

 

^ I'm sure everyone and their cat is sick of hearing the typical complaints on fairyland, and their quality/variety. I just wasn't into that big eyed cute aesthetic. I'm still not, but f65 Angela is nothing like that, and I'm going to cave on her quite soon...

V favourite doll company and why?

 

^ That's a tough one. My favorite company broke my heart when they ran themselves out of business (CustomHouse) but I still adore every single doll they have ever made. They made beautiful dolls, and I am hesitantly hopeful now that Luts has acquired many of their original sculpt molds. Can I dream of a Choa of my own? A Hyun?

< Downton Abbey really jumped all over my feelings and emotions pulling every which way for the finale. (No spoilers)

v What was the first company you actually purchased directly from? If you haven't, what is the company you plan to purchase from?

 

^Iplehouse. Soooo much Iplehouse. they are all so beautiful and there are so many choices for skin tones. I have my heart set on a multicultural group.

v Do you have a doll in a very strange/embarrassing position right now? If so, describe. If not, tell us about the last time you had a doll in a weird position.

 

^ All but three of mine are temporarily in boxes right now, but a couple of weeks ago when I was getting my catsitter set up with the location of everything while I would be away, he became intrigued by the dolls. Ed was sort of sitting in Jace's lap, with both of them sitting up nicely on the shelf, so I grabbed Ed to use as the visual aid to answer some of his questions, then picked Jace up to try to do a standing demo, forgetting that Jace's leg strings are a little wonky right now. So I tried to put them back, and they both just wanted to sprawl with Ed between Jace's legs... thanks for looking good in front of the guest, guys. (At least Winry was nicely agreeable to the standing demo, and went back to her seat politely, too. Boys, learn a lesson from Winry, please.)

< This time two weeks from now I'll be on my way to a new apartment... There is still SO MUCH STUFF to pack (including the aforementioned three dolls, though their boxes are out and ready for them) but all I want to do right now is take a nap.

v Have you ever had a guest over who didn't know about your dolls ahead of time? How did they react?

 

^ Probably? XD They generally are a bit surprised, but then they get all interested in the "did you paint them? did you make their clothes?" questions. I live in a pretty laid-back 'burg, really.

< Today's trip to the wig/hair supply store was not successful. Maybe one of the other ones will have the right color wefts...

v Strangest/most unexpected store you've ever been in while shopping for your doll?

 

^ Canadian Tire. My mother and I specifically went there for something for Tyler. Just before Christmas, my mother saw a cute snowflake-themed measuring cup set where all the pieces were parts of a tea set. There were two different sized tiny cups, a cream pitcher and a sugar bowl. Mum thought it'd be just the right size for Tyler, and it it was! So, I bought it lol.

< uggggghhhhh.... I hate it when I'm sick enough that I want to be at home in bed but not sick enough to justify using a sick day. On an up note, I have four heads out for faceups right now, and they've all arrived safely to the two artists.

V What's the largest number of heads you've ever sent out for faceups at once?

 

^ I'm planning to get 2 of my dolls faceupped (and 2 of my incoming heads) all done by the same person. I just have to wait until I get the heads.

< I really should be doing French, but meh.

v everyone has floating heads, but have you ever owned a floating body or other floating parts other than heads?

 

^ floating legs (hooves), floating jointed hands... probably had a floating body at some point too.

< I don't know why but I'm always tired during the end of summer and end of winter. Cats shed their fur and I sleep 20 hours a day ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

^ Oh yes. Two floating bodies, one of which is now a whole doll. I still need a head for Skittles, my floating YoSD body. I just generally don't do tinies, so chubby little baby faces don't excite me. ^^;

^ I've been interested ever since I heard about them, probably around 10 years ago when I was 13/14. I only started collecting recently because I'm a grown up with money now wahaha!

^ Yes I do have a favorite but I tried to pretend otherwise for a long time. Ichigo is my (not at all secret) favorite.

v Passing the question down, do you have a definitive favorite out of all of your dolls?

 

^ frankenstein is by far the fave. He's in two of my series (with a polymorphic force in one, and a scorpion girl in the other--lord, can he pick them..) and his face is utterly spectacular. I honestly stare at him completely randomly.

<is it normal for usps packages to just sit there for a day with no updates?

^ Lillycat Kitty Jolie! Ah how I wish I knew about that sculpt before she was sold out

^ Yes! Granado Uranus is the doll I've missed twice due to limited ordering periods and right now he feels like a bit of a "grail" considering how difficult he is to get. I don't know if Granado is going to release him again, although I really hope they do. I keep looking on the MP for him as well.

^ Oh, about 9. I'm slowly acquiring bodies, so that's a good thing? I have a body on layaway, at any rate, and I need a head for my last floating body.

^ Currently it's Dollmore FMD12 Cosette (who is off-topic for DoA). She's definitely going to be the next doll I'll buy, though. Liam (Lumedoll Blaze) demands a partner his own size.

^ Hmm.. Etsy shops? :P I do like rRabit a lot, they have really adorable clothes.

^ right now things like weapons would be what I want most. Maybe backgrounds....but mostly weapons.

^ Before, usually - then again, the dolls do demand a say in their backstories. I definitely need to have an idea who a doll will/could be before I get them in order to feel comfortable with the purchase, but the details only sort themselves out once the doll is home. And yes, I've had dolls turn my plans completely upside down upon arrival, too

< Speaking of which, another of my parcels has apparently gone missing. The last one was sneaking up on me while tracking claimed it was still hanging out in Miami, but it's been almost three weeks and no word of this one since it left a USPS facility in Los Angeles.
I also wish I knew whether or not Doll In Mind is planning a Spring event ...

^ Characters before resin, always. My dolls are not my characters; they're really just avatars and nothing more. I don't find that the resin has a "say" in the personality of the characters because most of my characters existed long before I ever got into the BJD hobby and they're all well-developed before I start looking for resin avatars for them. I feel like a character has to be important and "real" enough to me before I'd ever consider getting a doll to represent him or her. If I didn't have dolls, these characters would all stil exist. Dolls are just a nice way of seeing and representing the characters visually, and being able to associate a doll with a character helps me connect to the doll itself. On the few occasions I've impulse-bought dolls without characters in mind, they've never worked out.

V I like the previous question too, so... do you develop characters before or after getting a doll?

 

^ 50/50. Sometimes I have a character in mind and shop for the perfect sculpt to embody them, and sometimes I just NEED THAT SCULPT and figure out how they fit into my doll universe with it's complex overlapping stories after they arrive.

< I'm really enjoying digging through photobucket and my external harddrive for photos that I haven't shared much that fit various BJD game criteria.

v Do you have a favorite photograph from early into your BJD days that you still love despite it being taken with an older camera, or when you had less idea of how to take really nice photos?

 

^ Prepare to be terrified. I guess the picture isn't so bad....but poor Alex. He was still so new, that was his default faceup...and his first blond wig. I have no idea why it was so hard for me to find white blond wigs when I first got into this hobby....I do still like this pic even though I also cringe when I look at it XD



^ A year ago I had no dolls who wore suits. Now half of them wear suits. What the hell happened?!
