V It's the evening. Everything feels mellow. How do your doll(s) relax after a hard day's 'work'?

 

^ Katie grabs a book, something to drink and a bag of snacks and makes herself comfy on the sofa.

< Speaking of sofas, mine will get its new look today! 10m of fabric (one with a flowery pattern, English cottage style, the other two corresponding plains), a whole weekend, my sewing machine and I. This should be fun.

v Your doll(s) get to remodel their room. What styles and colours do they go for?

 

^ Since I'm plotting out the room for the teenage Slytherins--Severus and Alan go with lots of black and dark grays and greens. Probably lots of heavy wood furniture, a huge bookshelf, a bit old-fashioned looking, most likely. And then Matilda and Alcyone come in and hang up some cheerful, bright-colored posters and put brightly-colored afghans and throw pillows about, and ruin the whole effect. XD

< Nothing like a last-minute "Mom, I need you to..." to put a crimp in an otherwise leisurely Saturday morning.

v I like home decor and am only on the first cup of coffee, so I'll pass down the question. Your doll(s) get to remodel their room. What styles and colours do they go for?

 

^ Fuyu would love to have a pastel blue room, with a decorative white double bed, and lots of pastel yellow and pink pillows (possibly with cool patterns?) and stuffed animals and j-rock posters, and a decent gaming PC setup. Basically they would love to have a really cheerful room to lounge in when the roommate is doing yoga poses or dance practice in the living room again.

< Talking about remodeling, we just finished rearranging and washing the living room :]

v What fast food do your doll want right now?

 

^ French fries.

V How would your dolls procrastinate when they know they have a lot to do? (and don't want to start doing it)

 

^ Most of them will disappear behind the nearest book. Katie will play the violin instead of tidying up her room (it's the one thing she can easily focus on even when she's stressed). Mara will do random housework (which probably needed doing too so I'm not sure it counts as procrastinating) and carefully avoid getting anywhere near the thing she should be doing instead.

< whoops, I'm done. That was a lot faster than expected. Don't think my friend expected that colour scheme in my house either Looks like I've shocked someone.

v Which fact about your doll('s character) is most likely to surprise people?

 

^ That they don't have have any personality or character really behind them yet. :T

v What company was your latest doll purchased from?

 

^ Dollzone. It's my second body from them, and I am quite eager for it to arrive. As for dolls that actually are already in-house, my latest is from Souldoll, and she is quite lovely.

v Any doll-related projects that you are procrastinating on right now?

 

^ I need to give my two newest arrivals faceups and outfits before next week's meet. ...I'll get to it.

^ Mariko loves sweet creamy things, so strawberrymilk pokis would be her first choice when going to a convini store ;3

v How much time pased between the arrival of your first doll and your second doll?

 

^ Three months ... but that was because poor Lauren got caught in the xmas rush. They were ordered just a month apart. (Yep, I ordered a second doll before the first was home.)

v Do you have anything incoming? If not, what's top of your dolly shopping list?

 

^ I have a Miracledoll Long head incoming, and a heavily modified body project that is supposed to be finished this month.

< I hate how even when I get a good night's sleep, I still feel tired.

v Do you ever collect things for the sake of your doll's character, so you have a collection that is only an accessory for that doll?

 

^ Daphne is Christian's minion/brownie/helper, though she kind of helps keep an eye on everyone else. She's a much smaller BJD.

v Does anyone else have a minion or familiar for their dolls? Is it another doll or a pet-type accessory?

 

^ Grim will eventually have five children. Of them, one is a loyal minion... To his girlfriend. And Di wants 4 Cuarto Dragons, now.

<speaking of Di, she better like this next body or she's not getting shelled. And frost better like his new body once it gets its mods. Dolls.

V ever have a character that just rejected your every attempt to shell them?

 

^ omg yes. David's best friend and Alex's other adopted father; Marcus. He's been three dolls. I've given up. (tho today I was looking at Granado's Saturn and wondering.....NO I GIVE UP)

V Do you have a doll that keeps giving you trouble? Whether it's character or something like faceup or damage or anything?

 

^ I bought a withdoll Cecily, to be my long runnin character, Di/Rina, because I've always wanted a doll of her. Cecily looked too young. And the blue was all wrong. So another character, whose head I now have to blush or dye, decided he wanted that body, but not androgynous. I bought some apoxie. I guess we'll see. Rina, on the other hand, I'm hoping the body I've picked and the head I already have work. If not... Oh, I don't know.

V any doll that just immediately clicked and was easy to shell?

 

^ my Feeple65 Chloe. This girl can be anything. She just walked into a character and settled happily in it. I didn't even have to change the name or the eyes I had chosen for her. She is a WIP, and is amazing.

^ Absolutely nout, I believe they would love to go on a picnic but knowing them it won't happen in the end.

^ I make all the things for my dolls! XD Clothes, accessories, furniture, books, props, wigs...shoes I still struggle with making, but I've tried.

^ I mod, and my girlfriend makes clothes. She's really talented

^ I enjoy making cloths for my doll but I wish I was better at it.

^ Both. I don't see why I should be stuck with only one. And like, half my dolls have green hair now....

^ I have actually seen some really cool multicolored wigs in real life and online.

^ she was already released a few months ago, but she caught my attention again a few days ago : iplehouse ah-ra! I have no need for a child doll, but she's adorable and I want her!

v what doll are you saving up for?

 

^ Once the rest of my Volks Kiriko is paid for, I may start socking away money for one the Smart Doll guys. I don't have any dolls quite like him in the crew yet, and something about having an uber-anime style vinyl dude seems like fun. He'd be off-topic here, but then so are a lot of my odd-ball little companion beasties.

V Your favorite comes down with the sniffles... How do they handle it?

 

^ Christian would take bundle up under the warmest, thickest quilt he could get his hands on, and nap, probably while having some sort of reality programming marathon on in the background.

v What's your favorite's comfort food of choice when they are feeling poorly?

 

^ I assume this is about my dolls rather than me? xD
Soup, none of them can pass up a delicious bowl of chicken soup to chase away the gloom.

v Does your dolls have occupations?

 

^ Not as of yet. I'm still developing her character.

v Have you ever made shoes for your dolls?

 

^ Yep! I made almost all of their shoes. There are like four pairs of bought shoes in the house, two pairs being pointe shoes (keychains) that just so happened to fit them.

v Tell us about your most recent arrival! Name? Sculpt / company? Character?

 

^ My most recent were twins, actually! ♥ Asleep Eidolon Coral and Cherry (Girl). Their names are Karalyn and Jun Ereban, they're not identical but they're pretty close, enough that they've definitely been mistakened for each other more than once. Their story involves the two of them living multiple lives in multiple timelines, each time brought together with the other spirits by fate, but each time failing to make enough of an impact to transcend mortality. It's sort of a trial, sort of a curse, and 100% a bum deal for all involved.

< Speaking of Kara and Jun, I'm almost done with their faceups! Just waiting for the gloss to dry now ^^

v I wanna hear more, so I'm passing it down: Tell us about your most recent arrival! Name? Sculpt / company? Character?

 

^ I recently got a Granado Terra head for a floating body - it was intended to be someone else but became Lex Luthor instead.
I also got a Chibi Lilian Roar FP which I put on my Lilian - restrung with the small chest. Now he's Damian Wayne, aka Robin.

V Passing on the Q because I'm busy and shouldn't be on DOA at all right now: Tell us about your most recent arrival! Name? Sculpt / company? Character?

 

^ My most recent arrival is IMPL Star Alma in a custom colour. Her name is Zera Evangeline Gibson (human persona of Zerachiel the Guardian). Zera embodies many aspects of Zerachiel's true personality much better than Its other persona, Zach, does. Zera is a risk-taker. She's mischievous, playful, loving and creative, and more than a little clueless when it comes to navigating her way through life with humans. Fortunately, she's got her demon lover Aubrey and his ward, Sky, to help her.

< Zera, Sini & Élise are off to the faceup artist! I'm stupidly excited for Élise to have her makeover finally, and I can hardly wait to see Sini and Zera with their faces on.

V Do you paint your own dolls' faceups, or send them to someone else?

 

^ Paint my own. I'm a notorious DIY person ... sure, they're not as perfect as real faceup artists could make them, but at least if I mess them up somehow I can re-do their faces myself without having to send them away.

< so freaking tired.

v Which part of a doll's look is hardest for you to get right?

 

^ Wigs and eyes. I have the hardest time finding wigs I like, especially for the characters with shorter hair. Nothing is quite right, and I don't particularly wish to deal with the fragile nature of hard-cap wigs. Eyes are hard because they *must* be glass, so I'm limited a bit with certain colors, or else I must pay a king's ransom for them.

< Need to get on with that paperwork, and yet here I am...shopping for my Jinwoo's new character.

v If you've given a doll a new character, what's the very first thing you change to make them into that "new person"? Are eyes and wig changes enough, or do they get a total makeover? How did it go overall?

 

^ I've used them for trying to rename the character who was originally named after me... I tried a few. The best one I got was "Fierene" which sounded cool, and would suit her, cause Fier in French means proud and is also a throwback to the fear street books I used to collect. It just didn't click with her. I tried Fierina, which was closer to her old name but still sounded too... Something. I dunno. So then she got to be nameless, which suited her just fine. Now she has two names (and an incoming body)

<I'm all dressed up and I think one of my dolls is eyeing this outfit. If only there was a dolly goodwill.

v which of your doll characters dresses most like you?

 

^ Probably Katie ... even though I've changed my own style a bit recently, so it's really more like a draw between Katie and Chris. (Spooky!) Katie is a denims-sneakers-shirts kind of girl (the sort of clothes I go for in my free time), Chris is more on the grown-up side of things (which I wear for work).

< do. not. want. Work tomorrow, then rehearsal for a friend's wedding, important meeting on Saturday and maybe a crafting/building meet on Sunday. Our ship needs maintenance. And all I want to do is sleep for a week.

v If you had to pick one alternate setting / universe / world for your dolls to live in, what would you pick? (Anything but the one they're from, can be one of your own or a pre-existing one.)

 

^ I do! I have a Dollmore head incoming for my Doll Chateau body, and the weather is supposed to be good for face-ups next week. I need to get his wig yet and make him some clothes, but I am excited!

< TEN AND A HALF YEARS. Finally I have Rei's wig and eyes exactly right after ten and a half years.

v Who took the longest to finally come together in your resin crew?

 

^ Other than all of them? XD
I guess Alex I and David. David is hard to find clothes and hair for and really so was Alex. I just got a wig that I find perfect for him a year ago and he was my first doll (he'll be 8 in May). Every time I get all his tattoos done they need to be redone XD and I swear grunge clothing are almost nonexistent in this hobby...as are jeans that fit the Dollmore Adam body.
It took me more than four years to get David a body I liked. He also has two other alternate heads that never seem to have faceups all at the same time....
My dolls are all pretty much a work in progress....

V What is the hardest part of waiting for a doll? The "saving-waiting-to-actually-order" wait, the "before-shipping" wait, or the "after-shipping-where-the-hell-is-it" wait? Or is there an even worse part of waiting for you??

 

^ right now I would say the saving up part. The currency conversion isn't too good these days so it takes more time to save up and it gets me anxious! I constantly feel like I'm gonna miss on the stuff I want!

< speaking of which, I want 4 new dolls and I can't afford a single one right now xP

v what's the longest it has ever taken you to get a doll completed? (Or "good enough" if you're one of those who feels their doll is never truly complete )

 

^ well, I'm fairly new to the hobby, so I'll admit, "how long" questions are fairly short, but all of my dolls are projects. Frost and Rina are going to take the longest, because of their mods. Frost needs female to androgynous mods and Rina needs one hell of a complex tattoo job.

V which doll you have or have planned requires the most ambitious mods?

 

^ I have a boy coming in whose character is a triple amputee. I'm going to have to build some limb segments for him because I don't want to cut into the actual resin, and I don't want to just build caps for the ends of his limbs. I want them to look realistic, and not be perfectly symmetrical.

< I ate too much food at a very nice restaurant somehow; the serving size wasn't even that large? But I am thinking of these mints I have too because I love mints so much.... at the same time, however, I don't think I can eat another bite...

V Do all of your dolls belong to the same story as one another? Tell us what stories they belong to!

 

^ They don't - I have a lot of different groups. There is the main storyline which is my biggest group of OC's based off of my comic. Their world is 1\3 in scale. I have a smaller group of a few OC's named off of coffee beverages who are in their own fantasy world, though they're kind of absorbing a couple other dolls after I sold a bunch off. I have two Marvel characters who exist in their own AMU and then a large group of DC\Batman characters who are in their own ADCU. And a bunch of random dolls who get thrown together by virtue of having no where else to go.

V Repeat because I'm too excited to come up with a question and I can barely type: Do all of your dolls belong to the same story as one another? Tell us what stories they belong to!

 

^ well, two of them are from a book that I read (they're planned and not yet actually dolls, mind you.)
Most of them are from a story I'm working on, which will probably take the form of two series and a bunch of novellas and whatever Grim/Jo's book is... I won't babble too much, but their series is about reapers: basically emotionally compromised dead people who can't yet pass on and instead have to collect souls. That's on hold because I have to research a lot of time periods. One (maybe two, who knows..) of my dolls is going to be from my other universe, in which there are three other worlds, all of which have different magics assiciated with them, and the usual age-long feud. Rina (a withdoll head on a resinsoul body I have incoming) is a main character in that.

V I liked this question, so I'll pass it down, what stories are your dolls from?

 

^ My dolls are from a pretty diverse group of stories; the OCs are all RP characters of mine from differing settings, and the not-OC dolls are all from different canons. So I've got Bleach, Homestuck, Final Fantasy, and Prince of Tennis represented on that side. I have tentative plans for a Haikyuu!! doll too.

v Which comes first, the doll or the character?

 

^ usually it's the doll. I try to get a good idea of what I want to do with a doll before buying it, but story and personallity usually develop once I have the doll in hands.

v how important is it for you to have a complete story and personallity for your dolls?

 

^ Not that important! I try to think of characters for them, but that always changes once I actually have the doll, so I'm just letting them be dolls for now. Hopefully someday I can come up with stories and characters that fit them perfectly, but I'm not too concerned about it in the meantime.

< I had resigned myself to the fact that I wouldn't see my AprilStory Adrian until June - I had him sent to my house, and if he doesn't get there by spring break, I won't be back home until the school year ends. BUT now I'm being a little more hopeful about it! There's still a chance, and I asked on the Q&A board for a shipping estimate, so I'll at least know for sure before I start despairing again.

v Repeating an older question: Does the doll or the character come first for you? If it's the doll, how do you develop a character and story that fits them - and if it's the character, how do you decide on their sculpt and etc?

 

^ the doll comes first. Then the character very slooowly. I start by finding a pair of eyes and a wig, even if they are temporary. Then I make a point of naming the doll as soon as these are fitted. From there, I find him/her clothes or start making them. The story and character develop at a snail's space because I need to have a good knowledge of the doll's sculpt before he/she is given a personality.

< Can't sleep at night, can't sleep during daytime.

V which character would you like to shell?

 

^ If you mean "existing character as character doll," I've actually got most of those I'd want already done. However, in a perfect world where I could find exactly what I needed for her, I would add an Izumi Curtis to the group I've got in a heartbeat! But I'd need the right sculpt, size, and body type, and I'd need her from a company not yet represented in that group of dolls. (I have a rule on them that no two dolls can come from the same company unless they precisely share an ethnic/world origin. So far only the siblings get to come from the same companies, and you will have a hard time convincing me that Izumi is 100% Amestrian.)

If you mean "my own characters to dolls," I've still got a few of those planned, and am slowly working toward bringing them together, but my OC cast is really quite large, so there's not specific prioritization on them right now. It's more a matter of "If the right sculpt/event appears and I have the money to get it, then that means X gets added to the group."

< Moving. In three weeks. Which I found out three days ago. My life is going to be frantic for a while, but once I'm moved and settled--studio space! And a balcony for spraying and dremeling! Yeah!

v What's that "one thing" that makes your particular doll yours, distinct from others of the same sculpt?

 

^ my doll is unusual in their appearance, i think. i've based them off of a character from a novel written in the 1800s and i see them as nonbinary - while from what ive seen, dolls are usually called he or she on here

< there's some drama with an ex-friend and i. he's being very nasty and it's stressing me out.

v how did you first discover bjds?

 

^ I saw someone with one at a local Japanese festival. They refused to tell me anything at all about them, so I was left to rediscover them a year later in a magazine ad for Junky Spot....

V Do you own any hybrids? if not, would you?

 

^ I have several hybrids. There are just some companies' bodies that I do not like, or I want a particular look that certain companies' heads do not provide, or the heads or the wrong size to fit in. So away I go to hybrid land! My newest hybrid is in actual transit right this second--a Dollmore head for a Doll Chateau body. And the weather is good for face-ups today...

< I have another hybrid on layaway--a Dollzone girl body for my long-suffering DIM Rain head. Everyone gets to be a hybrid!

v To turn the question on its head, are there just some dolls who must have heads and bodies from the same company?

 

^ Must? Nah. With some I was just lucky enough for their default heads and bodies to be perfect. Both have to fit what I have in mind for the character in question, so if the default combo works, that's great (and easy) - if not, hello hybrid.

< What a weekend it has been. And tracking stopped updating (again). If this was my AprilStory order instead of a bunch of hands and small parts, I'd be a nervous wreck by now.

v Do you have anything doll-related in transit (coming in or going out)? How do you handle it?

 

^ I have some shoes on the way, but they won't be here for another week or two. I generally handle the waiting by checking the tracking 10 times a day and getting angry when it's not updating lol.

< So tired... Had a friend over this weekend and my moods got the better of me. Hope I didn't screw anything up :/

v What are your favorite type of eyes, and how often do you change them?

 

^ I like the fantasy ones. I am keen on Ersa Flora's. I wish I had known of it at the start of the hobby. I don't change my dolls' eyes very often nowadays. Seeing an expensive glass eye running chaotically on the floor...and the result.... Nope, I think twice before doing anything of the sort.

< I cannot believe these plants are still alive. They must have zombie's DNA.

V Your BJD has decided to move out because of irreconcilable differences. What job does he/she apply for?

 

^ Well Ayano's only 15/16 right now so instead of applying for a job she would just go to Korea to the collage she attends XD. Or maybe Japan where she lives in her story. Though if she was old enough.. idk, either a singer, fashion designer or artist? In Japan or Korea.

<I'm so freakin' annoyed! Like first I was too worried to order Ayano in September! Then I wanted to wait for the winter event! So I ended up ordering on new years, coz I miscalculated the time it would take for her to get to me (she was for my birthday) she till hasn't shipped and my birthday was 19 days ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! v How many times have you ordered a doll for a celebration and they didn't get there on time? How did you cope?

 

^ the closest I come is that I wanted my ringdoll boy to arrive before my birthday in May, and he arrived yesterday.
