^ Definitely a skeleton!!! I want one so bad but there's only one I know of and he's pricey! And sold out. Skeleton 71CM tall - dollyplanet I'd also like to see mature/adult mermaids in both 1/3 and 1/4 size, and not just female.

< I'm going to be decent at sewing one day, and then everyone will be dressed nicely! I'll get there!

v How do you feel about pet dolls! Love 'em? Neutral?

 

^ Not really a fan unless they're really nice ones (well sculpted, you know, worth the price?). I see them as a prop and that's expensive!

< After a really difficult few years, I'm finally getting back into this hobby in a way I actually enjoy. It's weird how much my tastes have changed since I got my first doll in 2014.

v What do you think of anime sculpts?

 

^ I'm not really a fan of anime sculpts. I like the fantasy dolls more than plain human, but in that regard I prefer them looking more "realistic" and not cartoony.

< It's supposed to get super hot tomorrow, not looking forward to that.

v Have you ever/would you ever be interested in roleplaying with your dolls?

 

^ some of my dolls are roleplay characters (dnd, private rp servers with my close friends) but In More open/public settings, not usually. With my friends, we have a clear understanding of what content we are and aren’t okay with playing, and that everyone’s schedules are wildly busy and inconsistent, so response times will vary.

I’m also weirdly picky about writing styles feeling cohesive, so I pick people whose writing works with mine, and who are fun to read. I’ve had some absolutely beautiful prose come out of those threads, because one of my rp partners has the most elegant, heartwrenching style imaginable. We’re coauthoring a fic because I really wanted a “finished” version of that scene.

I used to love public/semi-open rp threads though, and I might get back into it someday!

V what is your most unconventional doll (off the wall concept, weird hybrid, mod project, or anything else that makes them cool and unusual?)

 

^ I don't really have anything majorly unconventional. I've got a few faeries and a couple of vampires, but they're nothing too 'out there'. I was planning on modding a doll into a drow (DnD dark elf, onyx skin) but I'm going to sell her.

< I really miss roleplay. Used to be active on the Tumblr RP scene but left due to some difficult relationships with other muns. Never really found many RP partners I jelled with that well so I'm kinda jealous of you, Chameleon!

\/ Do you come up with a character before you buy a doll, and find a doll that fits, or do you buy dolls and then figure out the character?

 

^ it can go either way for me really. I do have dolls planned for certain characters, but i also have a list of characters i want as dolls but cant find the perfect sculpt for, so sometimes when i buy a doll spontaneously, i'll choose a character for it afterwards.

< i've been rather chatty tonight. I wonder why. I'm not usually like this. Dolls have put me in a good mood i guess.

v What is your favourite doll sculpt? Do you own it?

 

^ Probably Dollpamm's Icarus! I don't own it yet, but I am waiting on an order for it

v Do your dolls have any pets? Ball jointed or otherwise?

 

^ Yeah! I've got a big Etsy artdoll wolf that lives with my collection. She was initially a Cuartosdoll Hecate, but was "reshelled" to the artdoll. She's fluffy.

< Payday! The very best day! And a 3 day weekend too.

v Who's the oldest doll in your collection?

 

^ Soom Vesuvia poison kiss—she’s from early 2008! Before I got her it was Iplehouse Kamau from the sword dancer release (2010) or Soom Gluino Vampire Alchemist (2010). The oldest doll in terms of how long I’ve owned them is my Withdoll Cecily body from 2015, or the Adriana head from the same time.

<I’m so proud of myself for getting through this week…. We’re getting closer, every day to a break.

V what’s the biggest change in your doll collection, since you started in the hobby?

 

^ I would say the biggest change involves my favorite doll. Not only has she undergone a total reshell, but her over-all character peg is so different compared to when I first assembled her to her current state. This then versus now comparison should tell it all.

v Passing the question down: what’s the biggest change in your doll collection, since you started in the hobby?

 

^ Well, I'm still new to the hobby and waiting on my first doll to arrive, so there hasn't really been much potential for change. That being said, all the dolls I had initially liked were winged/fantasy, and I've found a couple more human dolls I like these past couple days, so there might be a change in plans of what I want to collect, if that counts?

> I found a tutorial for making a dreadlock wig, and I really want to try it.

v Similar line of question, but: what sort of doll did you not care for much at the beginning of your bjd journey but you later on bought?

 

^ MSDs! I thought I would have a crew of SD and bigger boys, with some fantasy tinies. But I fell in love with a few MSD heads (DiM Gayane and Laia, MNF Siean, Luts KDFs...) Now I have more MSDs than SDs, take out my MSDs for pics more often, sew for them more often... I just really like their size, now that I've played around with them more.

< I'm on vacation for a week!!! It's going to be so nice to chill out for a week.

v What is the most expensive doll accessory (wig, eyes, etc.) you've ever gotten?

 

^ This dress by Biscuit Doll. I'm still waiting but it's so pretty! It's the only outfit I've taken a layaway out for, but I think it'll be well worth it.

< Sending a few dolls off for face-ups, including my favorite! I'm nervous but can't wait to see her refreshed.

v Have you bought any dolls on impulse?

 

^ I just did! I grabbed a Miss Orc head, because I had money in my PayPal, and desire in my heart, and the full dolls were sold out.

To be honest, most of my dolls are impulses, and some of them work out better than others. Shrike was an impulse, cause I could afford her at the price she was going for, and I’d always wanted a full Twigling girl. Cole was an impulse cause I loved her faceup. Abaddon was an impulse because I loved her weird grumpy vampire face. Most of my dolls had half a plan at most when they came into my life.

<I’m so hype that abaddon has a body now. I’m excited to eventually get her a faceup!

V what is your favourite thing about your favourite doll?

 

^ Her color! It's my Dollstown Soph B in tan skin, and I find her tan gorgeous. There is only my DT Elysia in ebony skin which I like the color better, but she is not my favorite doll.

< I'm going to see some friends tonight. I'm looking forward to it, but it's hard for me to concentrate on my work!

v Do you have/would you like an elderly doll?

 

^ I think it would be neat! Some of my favorite characters are old men. Reminds me, I need to watch season 2 of Picard...

< Slept past noon and then ate a melon. Awesome weekend so far!

v Do you have a character you thought you'd never be able to shell, and then found the perfect doll for them?

 

^ Only 2 of my dolls (My Doll in Mind Laia and my AprilStory Ethan) are shells of pre-existing characters, and in both cases, it wasn't PARTICULARLY difficult to shell them. I started thinking that I wanted a doll of them, browsed many doll sites, and within 6 months had decided on a sculpt. Most of my dolls are characters created specifically for sculpts I love.

v Do you prefer the process of customizing your dolls (doing their faceup, choosing their eyes, finding clothes for them...) OR taking pictures/looking at/enjoying your finished dolls? (I'm aware most people like both... But which stage of doll ownership is more fun to you: WIP or done! )

 

^ So far, the WIP stage. But tbh most of my dolls aren't really ready for photography yet. Life got weird for a while and my doll collection is in need of an overhaul - I really want to photograph them, though! I hope to do that in the future.

> Working on a junk doll that I'm hybridizing and sculpting some pretty big mods for. Really surprised how much I'm enjoying it and how I'm taking to it a lot easier than I anticipated.

v Which is more important to you: the poseability, or the quality of sculpting on a BJD body?

 

^ Probably the sculpt. I'm usually drawn to very specific looks on sculpts, so the quality is going to matter more to me than the ability to hold poses other than just basic sitting or standing.

v If you could magically create/alter one feature for one of your dolls to make them absolutely perfect, what would it be?

 

^ I would want my Doll Leaves boy doll Oscar to be taller, I had no idea how short the 1/4 boy dolls were compared to the Doll Leaves girl dolls, and other MSD dolls. He is crazy short, and I want him taller.

> Shower thoughts? I really need to get some sleep tonight, I've been spreading myself thin with all my projects lately.

v If you could bring back one discontinued doll from any company, what would it be?

 

^ Not a full doll but definitely the Doll Chateau Y-body-02!! I just love everything about it!! They still have the female youth body, so why discontinue the maleeee

v If you had to make all of your dolls have the exact same look/aesthetic, what would that be?

 

^ I'd definitely pick a fantasy theme! I'm a long time lover of everything sword and socercy, and I already have plans for fantasy outfits for my crew already! (A bit hard to shop for though )

v Is there a doll that you would want, but are too scared/intimidated to actually own?

 

^ a release of Souldoll Shiva with the full body blushing... it is absolutely gorgeous and shimmery but would be loathed to touch and pose her

> majority of my smaller bjds are sitting on shelves and just picked up three and the elastic is all loose and floppy. Can't find the thinner elastic only the heavy duty stuff... so frustrating as I would love to get these restrung asap

v what is your favourite re-purposed bjd prop and what is its actual/original use? Eg using a paper knife for a sword, or a novelty keyring as a camera

 

^ I have a “doll dresser” that is a repurposed jewelry box, and it’s just tall enough, probably between waist and hip-height, for dolls to sit on it convincingly, and pose with it.

<cowboy season is descending upon us… my hometown gets one week of cowboy, and I just remembered today I needed a hat…

V passing this along!! What’s your favourite doll prop that you’ve repurposed along the way?

 

^ i have a violin music box that plays the theme from Romeo and Juliet, and it just so happens to be perfect for smaller SD sized dolls. Comes with a case and a bow as well. Probably my new favourite prop I have.

v Do you have more male or more female sculpts in your collection?

 

^ More females. I was sure it'd be the opposite when I started.

^ Dusted them, poor things. So dusty.

v What doll/item are you currently waiting for?

 

^ currently: Twigling obsidian gamine head/hands, Twigling Elbe head, Bonelace Miss Orc head, and the miracledoll muscle girl, and hopefully I can send in that supia order soonish? I like that my incoming isn’t outrageous right now though.

<hooo boy it’s rainy today in that special hail Armageddon kinda way.

V do you own multiples of the same head/same doll? Would you?

 

^ Currently, no, but a bunch of us are trying to get to the minimum order of 25 for a Doll in Mind Annabeth head, and I'm committed to 2 on that GO. So while I don't see the need for multiples of the same sculpt, I'll do it if needed to reach a minimum order amount!

< Going to comiccon today! My first con in YEARS, very exciting.

v Have you ever been to a doll convention or meet up? What was it like, did you have fun?

 

^ I have been to Doll Akon, Pacific Northwest BJD Expo, a couple of events at a local convention, and a meet up or two. In general, they were great! PNW was wonderful and everyone was so friendly, also it was very informative. The local events were great fun, and meet ups were a blast.

< I wish it would just rain! If it doesn't rain tonight, I have to water tomorrow.

v Is there a doll company that no longer exists that you miss?

 

^ Angel battle! I still wish I could've grabbed one of their cute little skeletons before they disappeared

v Have your tastes in dolls changed much from when you first got into the hobby?

 

^ they’ve changed tons! When I got into the hobby I thought the stylization on twiglings—my favourite dolls now looked “kinda weird” and I didn’t like any of the wider eyed girls like my FL girls, or smaller eyed girls like my MDR Zuri. I played it a lot safer with semi-realistic dolls that don’t interest me as much now! I also didn’t yet have the interest I now have in vinyl hybrids, and smaller heads, and wanted a lot more male dolls than I do now.

it’s a minor thing, but I also though 14/7 eyes looked “fine” in my iples with 12mm eye wells (that gap!), and now even my big eyed fairyland dolls get at most a 6mm Iris.

<just to go back to where we started, ringdoll is antagonizing me with that Lucifer fallen Angel wing set. I don’t want to support them, or deal with their wait, or their fragile fantasy parts, but god is the new Lucifer a look!

V what was your favourite company when you started in the hobby? How do they compare to your favourite company now?

 

^ Dream of Doll and Bobobie were my favourites. DoD was the first company i ever came across, and Bobobie because they were where i bought 4 of my first 5 bjds. Plus the Bobobie Forums were legit the best place to hang out. I miss the good old days.

< Anime North this weekend! Will make sure to stop by some doll north stuff too!

v Do you have any non-human dolls in your collection? If so what are they? If not, do you plan on getting any in the future?

 

^ I don't have any at this point.
I love some of the hybrids that dreamvalley has, but asthetically they don't fit into the theme I'm going for(still might get one or two latter tho!!)

As for normal bjd animals I find they just look too doll for me.
They are also very pricy, but most importantly they are just not fuzzy/cuddly enough!!


One "animal" I do want is a demon maned wolf. I might cave if I could find one of those... maybe. Or a fully posable falcon or owl.

> I've been away from home for 3 weeks due to college, finally going back on Friday. I did not expect to miss my doll this much. She is my first, she came 2 days before I had to leave. But I did find some weird and waky props for her while I was here!

v how often do you give your dolls attention (pose them/craft for them/take pictures...ect).
Do you rotate through favorites, or give them equal attention? Which one is sitting on your desk/shelf right now?

 

^ It comes in waves for me. Usually whenever I get a new doll, they all get some attention either while I’m waiting for the new one or working on the new one, or just finishing the new one. Though usually Casey (Doll Chateau Matthew) and/or Pluto (Doll Chateau Pluto) get some attention at least once a month. Casey is my first character and will always be my favorite, and Pluto recently muscled her way in to share that top spot. Pluto is currently the only one on the shelf because I took Casey, Gabriel (Dream Valley Chaos on B4-04 body), and Georgia (Logan Dolls Claudia on a Conarium body) down for pictures.

< Trying to decide if I’m going to drive three hours today to go to a water park. Probably should check the weather.

V What size doll do you have the most of? Is it the size you thought you would be collecting most when you first started?

 

^ I currently have one MSD, and a slim MSD on order. It's definitely not what I thought I would be collecting, since what first drew me to the hobby was SD and 70+ dolls. The prices of MSDs are a little more manageable though.

< Why does figuring out sewing patterns have to be so hard?

v Have you ever been to a meetup/doll con? Do you want to go to one?

 

^ I went to a doll meet up at an anime con once or twice! I actually didn't really enjoy it, I'm an awkward potato who doesn't do well in new social situations AND I was kinda hiding my doll hobby from the friends I went to the con with because they called bjds "creepy dolls".

< I REALLY want to preorder a new wig for Ebony... But would it be unreasonable, since I haven't interacted much with him in the last year?

v Did BJDs ever cause friction in your friendships/relationships?

 

^ Not really. My non doll friends just kinda accepted it was a hobby and dealt with it. However, the friends i did make in this hobby ended up...not being my friends anymore. Its weird but we move on i guess.

< Bought another doll head when i shouldnt have. Whoops lol

v What doll did you want to get as your first doll, and then what doll did you end up getting as your first?

 

^ The first doll I wanted was Dream Valley Bethel, the first I ordered was Dollpamm Icarus, and the first I actually received was a Doll Zone blank body to shell into a character of mine!

< I got a gorgeous dress in the mail today for said Icarus!

v Which of your doll(s) has the most meaning behind it for you?

 

^ Wilhelm (Doll Legend Frank), definitely! He is my dearest own character. Wilhelm's character has helped me through hard times in my personal life. I though that getting him as a doll would feel very special, and it really does. Being able to hold a physical item that reminds me of my dearest OC has been very therapeutic.

< I have an absolutely terrible doll fever right now.

v Do you prefer taking photos indoors or outdoors?

 

^It depends on the season! Mostly indoors because I’m so nervous taking pics outdoors lol! Sometimes I will sneak out back and hope the neighbors don’t see me.

<I wish I had more time to sew and do doll things! Adulting is about having the money to get the things you want, but never having the time to truly enjoy them! Haha!

v Do you prefer to make or buy your doll’s clothes?

 

^ Buy. I tried making (knitting and sewing) but nothing looks very good; at this scale, mistakes are very visible and I'm just not careful enough!

< I'm so sleepy... I should have gone to bed earlier...

v Do you have a favorite clothing shop you keep coming back to, or do you change clothing shops often and try lots of different ones?

 

^ I've bought most of my doll clothing from Starrshinedesigns on Etsy. I love how they're made and the price is good too.

v What would be the first thing you'd buy if you won the lottery jackpot?

 

^ Such a hard choice, but I would probably find the best fit to shell my favorite character, and commission artists for a custom faceup and clothing!

< Ice cream sounds good, it's so hot here. And maybe a dip in the pool...

v If you could have any one discontinued doll have another run, which would it be?

 

^ IMPLdoll's Nelson, Triton, and Hannah. Impldoll's limited dolls are brilliant and i feel so bad for missing out on them!!!

^ 5stardoll Jadite. Not sure why I never got Jadite... combination of timing and lulled into a false sense of security due to be an open edition. And Sugarble naga tails in all those colourful translucent resins...

> finally done some faceups and although I haven't picked up a paintbrush in many many years, it was actually fun... even though they aren't great, was a satisfying experience. Looking forward to doing some more...

> what is your best tip for faceups which isn't (in your opinion) widely known? Eg when spraying base and intermediate layers, spray consistently and be patient... leave a minimum of 30 mins between sprays.

 

^ Look up makeup tutorials about blush/contour placement, it's been super helpful for me!

< I need to get some more filters for my mask and a can of msc, I really miss doing faceups, too.

v Do you have any fantasy colored dolls (like grey, or purple, or green resin)? If not, would you ever consider it?

 

^ Not currently, but I'm definitely open for it! I would love to have for example Peakswoods dolls with fantasy skintones.

< My doll fever is absolutely hideous. Help.

v If you could get any possible doll to your hands right now, what doll would it be?

 

^ i dont know really, but Kizdoll Deey is stuck in my head. It makes me so sad that Kizdolls are so rare.

v What is your favourite size doll? Why?

 

^ MSDs. When I first started collecting I just knew I would only have SDs, they were the size of the dolls I fell in love with on the internet. First doll I bought, I accidentally bought an MSD. Later when I bought an SD, I realized how much more portable, displayable, and manageable My MSD was. So now I only have MSDs and smaller.

< Working on blushing my Sio2 Funan and I forgot how much I love working on fantasy dolls.

v What is your favorite part of the hobby?

 

^ I love so much of the hobby! Styling dolls, taking photos, sewing, just cuddling with them and making photostories!

< I'm really hoping I can sew and get back into my dolls again soon! I want to do more photostories!

v what's something you're looking forward to?

 

^ Going home. Am tired.

v Have any dolls you've ordered and are waiting for?

 

^ Currently waiting for an FJX Blind box doll to arrive, he’s in New York now so probably not too much longer, and a LUTS Duri Blossom head that is in France. I’m also on my last couple layaway payments on a spoopy three-eyed artist doll from Instagram, and waiting to receive the invoice for a BW_Dolls Tiny Seven garage kit. So uh, yea, lol.

< Just took apart my Sio2 Funan to blush the deer part of his body and his upper half looks hella creepy now lol.

v Do you prefer to get blank dolls to customize or full sets? Why?

 

^ Blank, I don't tend to bond with ones where I don't do the aesthetics, and even when I'm indecisive on how I'm going to style a doll I still find a lot of appeal in the blank form of them.

< I need to get things settled so I can do faceups again...

v Do you prefer a more natural look or something else with your dolls? If it's something else, what's your style?

 

^ More natural I think. I like my dolls face-ups to be very simple and natural looking.
For clothes I like them to wear things that I'd like to wear/would be comfortable in (thought I'm not sure that most people would consider that natural).

v If you could photograph your doll anywhere, with anyone/anything, where would you photograph them and with who/what? Also, which doll(s)?
Personally I'd love to be able to take a picture of Nadeko with Akihiro Enku and/or the former Emperor of Japan (really random, I know)

 

^ I would love to take my Anime Dolls to japan for photos, but i think that would attract a bit too much attention from the locals if i were ever to go. To have them photographed at the volks store would be a dream come true!

v what type of eyes do you prefer in your dolls (plastic, acrylic, resin, silicone, glass, etc.)?

 

^ Urethane resin, by far! I have some CandyWorld and Oscar Doll eyes, and am eyeing (heh) some resin eyes from BeckyArtStudio on Etsy right now. They're just so pretty and sparkly!

< We're going squash picking tomorrow, it's going to be sp fun (and delicious)!

v Do you mostly look for dolls to shell pre-existing characters (whether your original characters or characters from media you love), or do you wait to see a doll you like the look of, and create a character for them afterwards?

 

^ I do both! Counting the dolls in my room, I can say about 25% of them are here because I decided they were the perfect doll for a character I already had and was shelling. Another 50% are either dolls I already had that have “switched” character at least once, or that I’ve tweaked characters to work for sculpts I really wanted, and another 25% are dolls I really wanted and eventually made a character for.

<oh god, Impldoll if you keep making dolls that look exactly like my characters I’m gonna end up doing another mod project and no one needs that.

V are most of your dolls from one company, or do you “shop around” from multiple?

 

^ I do shop around, but I've recently become a zuzu delf addict, so now luts dolls make up half my collection and I don't plan to stop there!

v Are there any companies that you really like, but likely will never own a doll from?

 

^oh tons! Coral reef doll is the most recent—they’re creepy and stylized exactly to my liking. That bust stand with wings and a heart is absolute perfection, enough that I’m considering it as a display piece, and getting a shadow box with a wild frame to display it. The issue is that all my dolls are 1/3 and all their dolls are 1/4.

<I do have one not-quite 1/3 doll—my seranade doll artificial bird, but she’s getting a 1/3 head, hopefully. I think a smaller head like MDR or DSdoll or BlackCherry would look right! Right now her head is from dollmore, and it’s way too big!
